  • Fark. Just bought the LG. Around $693 AUD 4 left then i guess. :/

  • That is incredibly cheap. I bought my Samsung 3D 32" TV for around that price.

    The Samsung plays MKVs btw.

The delivery alone on this you would expect to be massive.

    • it was only 40EUR for postage if you believe that.

  • -1

give this a pass… hope 50" coming up soon :)

  • for me this deal is confirmation that Sony still makes TV. move on. You may be different, but I ask almost everyone when I see they have a 3d tv, they always say they have used 3d only once in 3 months, seen only 2 dvds in entire year. Not worth the 3d premium imo.

  • Offer of the day,but i think it's been this price for a while.

Why does it work out less?

    • +1

Because at checkout, they remove VAT (20% tax) for international orders.

      • Thanks forgot about VAT.Such a good price.
        Amazon.de rocks.

  • Hmm, I tried to order on amazon.de but it said it does not deliver to Australia. Am I missing something here? Cheers

    • The LG won't be delivered to Australia as it's not being sold by Amazon. Since Amazon sold out of their stock (last night), it's now being sold be a reseller at a higher cost. If I were you, I'd hold off for a while until the next round of Amazon.de TV specials (which will surely be posted on Ozbargain)!

  • Ok, the LG would not ship to Australia. The Sony would ship to Australia. But the total price?
    Total amount: EUR 1404.78

    :P

  • +1

I placed my order (for the LG 47" LED TV) last night but my CC still hasn't been charged. Is this usual?

    • +1

Mine also the same. May be because of Saturday. It says shipping only by Monday.

      • +1

Same here. I expect i'll be charged once it is fully processed and shipped.

        • same

        • I was charged today. Says delivery should be tomorrow.

        • so it really can ship to Australia?

        • +1

Well I'd say so seeing as i've been charged. Plus other people have bought items including tvs from Amazon.de and they have been shipped.

        • I too have been charged. Still hasn't been sent yet though.
I'd be a bit disappointed if they cancel the order. I'd much rather a 'shipping restriction' notification on the order page as opposed to finding out 3-4 days later. Going on Gallifrey's comment, it looks like we might be set for disappointment :(

        • Keep faith in Amazon :) If your Card has been debited, you will get it. The other 47 LCD 3D was also LG and all AU people bought it got it delivered. (If its sold by Amazon.de). Re-sellers wont honor it….

Hopefully we all get it before end of this week and we all can watch the closing ceremony of Olympics on it … :)

My main concern is with the Country setting to AU. hopefully it will support or we will have to hack.

        • Seeing as it says will be shipped on the 30th of july, I think it will come. Wouldn't be shipped yet as it is just after 8.30am in germany. Give it a few hours. It will be shipped. :)

  • I'd be concerned about the amount of 3D crosstalk in this TV (where one eye sees part of the opposite eye's image causing distracting ghosting). Check out this chart comparing some models, this TV is bottom middle and is by far the worst. Ideally you should only be able to see the L image with no R.

    http://img1.lesnumeriques.com/produits/35/10566/55HX920_3dlg…

    • That image is the 5500 not the 5400.

      • +1

I think Fasty was referring to the Sony which is @ the middle one in the last row.

For LG this modal, the crosstalk is 1% which looks minimum.

  • Just now, I was calling the customer service amazon and they said they cant send it to Australia but my order gone through.. So confusing…

  • Look at my previous comment: I have tried to have LG shipped to OZ by Amazon - it did not work. Sony however did and Toshiba as well. Samsung did not, Thomson did not, Acer did not, Asus did not (for laptops) etc.
Some brands can be shipped, others cannot. Of course you can always use a forwarder but that will incur extra fees both for the forwarder and the postage. I can confirm that normally postage for 23.5kg or more would be a lot more than the 40 Euro charged by Amazon (I assume they get special rates). For those of you who do not believe - here is the website www.post.de

    • +1

My previous LG was shipped fine from amazon.de and the new one is on its way already….

    • I wonder why you were unlucky in the past when recently, a bunch of us were able to place orders for LG TV's (the LCD a month ago and the LED mentioned in this post)? Maybe they've eased their restrictions?

  • +3

Received an email that the TV has been sent via UPS and ETA for arrival is this Friday 3rd! If this is true, top service!

    • +2

      me too

      • Is that the LG? I haven't received anything yet. :/

        • sony

        • +2

mine is LG 47". Exp Del 01/08, ie Tomorrow….sent through UPS…..

        • Mines been sent too, through UPS. Where do you find expected delivery?
          LG47'

        • In the morning, when i checked the UPS tracking site, it said 01/08. But now Del date is not shown. Anyway expecting by Friday.

        • Yeah, Hopefully by friday. :)

        • +1

I have an expected delivery date of '3rd August' for the LG 47" TV. I'll be home for the majority of the day but I wonder what happens if DHL try to deliver the TV when I'm not home. Do they simply just leave it at your front door? :/

        • +1

If yours is being sent via ups like others including mine it'll be auspost that will deliver it once it gets to Australia and I think they will require a signature so if your not home they'll leave you a card to pick it up from the post office. That's what's happened with everything I've gotten sent through ups or USPS. And that's a lot hahahaha. :)

        • Ah, that's good to know! It's being sent by UPS :)

        • Just thought i'd let everyone know my LG 47" is in Dubai haha. :)

        • +1

Guys, I just finished a call with UPS support staff. if you are at a secured building or without an intercom, you are screwed. UPS wont call you, wont tell any approximate time or extend any other help to collect it. All other couriers will ping you if its a delivery that requires signature.

I had a long talk with the support staff and when asked they have the same answer - We dont have the policy to ring you, tell approximate time when it will reach you, any special note to driver. what the hell, are they a service company?

I am planning to put a note at my apartment entrance saying "Hello… I am home…yes, actually I am waiting for you.. Please… Please….don't leave the parcel at entrance or return it". what else i can do? I cant put a chair and sit outside from 9 AM to 5 PM.

        • This is really concerning. I went into Australia Post today for an unrelated issue, and I asked if someone isn't home on Friday, will the TV (being delivered by UPS) be dropped off at my local Post Office. He said, it can't be dropped off at the P/O as they don't have an agreement with UPS. So it appears it may either be left at my door (thankfully I live in a residential house as opposed to an apartment/unit/etc) or be taken to UPS' distribution center in Adelaide… which is a 40-min drive away.

      • +1

Me too! Top service if will get it by friday.. Can't wait to share with you guys about the tv!

    • +1

hello there, any idea how much is charged on your card? (LG 47") mine has been charged AUD 714.66.

      • +1

Mine was charged 694.01 AUD, Did you let amazon convert the currency to AUD? that would explain the extra cost.

        • I dont think I used Amazon conversion. I selected the first option (If I am not wrong, its paying in the site's currency). The second option said it will charge me 717.00 AUD with the locked-in conversion rate.

I am using HSBC Debit card. Not sure HSBC applied the conversion fee. Possible.

        • Mine too was charged 694.01 (Comm bank?).
I'm still expecting to be slugged ~$15 for an international transaction fee too :(

On a side note, I just checked the UPS tracking website, and it appears my LG is in Dubai. Can't wait to get it set up. Where would the best place to buy an adapter be? Bunnings?

EDIT: Or could we simply just remove the cable and use a kettle-end (?) cable from a spare computer monitor?

        • +1

Exactly the same story for me, Westpac charged me an extra fee from 694.01 up to 706.80AUD
My LG was also in Dubai but departed at 2.50 am.

I'd say any hardware should sell an adapter or plugs themselves you can just wire up.

But I believe you are right that a spare monitor cable should work as most LG tvs use one. http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_nkw=lg+tv+power+cords

        • +1

Here's to hoping that's the case.

The LG 42" LED TV I have in my room (from Harvey Norman ~8 months ago) doesn't allow the cable to be removed. It's permanently attached to the unit.

        • Yeah, Well can only hope. I'll let you know tomorrow hopefully as tracking just updated and it says it has made it to Melbourne and through customs already. http://wwwapps.ups.com/WebTracking/track?HTMLVersion=5.0&loc…

        • Lucky you! I think our TV's are on the same planes ;)
My tracking is a bit odd though. It says it's left Dubai… again? Strange.

First August 2012 02:50 DUBAI AE Shipment has left the distribution center.
31st July 2012 22:38 Melbourne, AU Shipment is received by the Customs.
31st July 2012 22:38 Melbourne, AU Customs released the shipment.
31st July 2012 22:38 Melbourne, AU Shipment is received by the Customs.
31st July 2012 13:12 DUBAI AE Shipment is received at the distribution center.
31st July 2012 05:03 COLOGNE (COLOGNE), DE Shipment has left the distribution center.

        • Highly doubt it'll be back in Dubai. Mine says the same. Probably just a mix up between time zones etc.

        • Dont count on UPS's tracking. Its a mess. You will see a new entry saying its scanned in Germany again.

        • Just downloaded a 20mb manual for LG and it doesn't specify whether it is hardwired or not…

      • +1

mate get yourself a 28 degrees card with no conversion fees…

  • If anybody's interested this is a picture of the back of the TV apparently. http://www.lgblog.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/LW5400-BA…

    • Cool. So it appears the power cable isn't hardwired then?

Amazon.de state my 'estimated delivery' is tomorrow (03/08), but UPS tracking states 'Monday 6th August' :S

      • TBH I don't think it really clears up whether it is hardwired or not. Can't really tell from the picture. (Edit, E-mailed LG germany and am awaiting reply)

I'd say ring UPS up. See what they say about it. try calling 131 877.

Oh and what is the go with the antenna, Is that a normal antenna plug?

    • i received the parcel. its hardwired. TV is good

  • +1

    sony came today :)

  • m82 is the power cord hard wired or is it detachable? Hows the TV go? Hopefully mine arrives tomorrow fingers crossed :)

    • the cord goes into the tv but there is a plate you can remove to then take the cord off but you would need the right cord to put in it's place.
      i cannot pick up channel 7 or 10 …only 9 GEM SBS etc :/

EDIT: auto-setup did not have Australia listed as a country

      • That's bit of a concern. Is there any way you'll be able to eventually pick up 7 or 10?

I hope my LG LED Tv doesn't have the same problem. Most people who bought the LG LCD a month ago were able to pick up all channels, yeah?

      • seems like software update via USB with AU version might work? anyone tried it? you loose the digital recording feature by changing it right?

        http://www.sony.com.au/support/download/498813/product/kdl-4…

      • If have 9/GEM/SBS, should have all channels.

        • i don't know what is wrong then as my other bravia has all channels :(

anyone else missing channel 7 and 10?

        • do not set up the country to UK/Germany, etc, is there option "other"?

        • i tried with germany and with uk, there are a few other euro countries - czech, swiss, ireland, spain, france, italy, latvia, etc

i guess the other is "-" ….trying now

          EDIT: didn't work :(

      • select — as the country. after search, it showed 19 channels

        • ah, mines still searching but still only 11 channels so far
did u get urs today also?

          thanks

        • edit: no SBS :( not sure if signal problem

        • yes, got it today lg 47

        • LG need hack setting to pick up all channels, you can have a look previous webpage.

m82 get sony TV, should be different.

        • +1

Hey sab2000, what are your overall impressions of the LG 47" TV? Decent picture quality/etc?

When you first plugged it in, were you able to choose 'Australia' as a region? I only ask as I have a tendency to press the wrong options which leads to disastrous consequences :( Are you able to get all channels BUT SBS? That's awfully odd. Let us know if you find a solution/how you go!

EDIT: I just had a read over the old LG 46" LCD which was posted on OzBargain a month or so ago. Does this LG LED TV come installed firmware which blocks us from being able to choose 'Australia' as the region? If so, could we possibly download 'older' firmware to enable us accessing 'Aust' as a region?

Quoting Yates from the previous OzBargain deal "I found a proper solution for anyone who has updated to the latest firmware and can't change the Country setting to AU.

          http://www.hdtv.com.pl/forum/lg/66693-lg-cinema-3d-telewizor…

The second post from the above page has a link to the file GP3_EU_BB_[Special_ChangeOldKey]_C0_RevNo59622_V09.00.00_ota_V2_SECURED.epk

With this firmware installed the service menu allows the Country setting to be changed again.
Simply put the file on a usb drive in a folder titled "LG_DTV" (without the quotation marks") and follow the prompt.
Once the setting has been changed to AU the tv will then allow channels to scan correctly."

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/72870?page=1

        • TV is good with good picture quality. My eyes are still trying to adjust with the big screen :) tried the 3D and it is good (may be a fancy thing for a while). If you increase the depth too much, then there is a blur. Otherwise OK

There is no option for country=AU but there is a default option which is —. Choose this and it do the auto scan. Even the other LG thread mentioned issues with the SBS. I am planning to buy a Set top box with PVR and a logitech harmony remote as I want to cut down the number of remotes at home.

This model has no firmware upgrade. straight out of the box, it would work. I would suggest NOT to install the above firmware unless something has been screwed up. Its better to go with the Set Top + PVR route for all channels as its very cheap now and provides recording as well. I am just searching for some good PVR with timer recording.

        • That's not too bad then. I'm in the market for a decent PVR as well. I was looking at the 'Samsung BD-E8500/X' which I can get for ~$400. I'm open to all other options though.

        • The region change trick worked like a charm through the EZAdjust menu accessed via my Logitech remote. Changed to 06 Australia and voila all 23 ACT/Queanbeyan channels. Booyah!

  • I got 31 channels on sony bravia!! Im using indoor digital antenna and it works well..

    • damn, i may need to get one …what did u choose as your country? any problems with the clock?

  • I chose "-" .. And no problems with the clock.

    • cool thanks

  • Checked a different Sony TV (KDL-40EX650) and was unable to ship to Australia. Not sure if they re-closed the shipping option.

    • Chech my new post and be quick - $866 delivered!

      • Too big, but strange that one Sony tv works, but the other doesn't :S

  • Guys, do you know where i can get the cheapest one for the 3D glasses? Thanks

  • Anyone been able to tune the LG? I can't get any channels at all on mine. tried 3 different antennas and all the same. Anyone care to share the settings they had to get it tune?

    Otherwise Great picture. :)

      1. Try country as - - (the last one in the option)
      2. I bought a new Antenna from DSE to replace my old very basic one. to my surprise, the new amplified one comes nowhere near to my old one. When I scanned with the DSE one, it showed only 1-2 channels and the old one gave me 19 (no SBS). I am planning to return it to DSE ( waste of time and money).

so make sure your antenna is a good one. If required, do a factory rest and then set the country again.

      • Tried all of that. Only thing I've seen is something about regional areas being 7mhz affecting it? :S

      • Barking up the wrong tree bro. See my other post to get all channels without doing anything drastic.

  • Anyone else having issues with the clock on the LG 47"? It keeps wanting to be set. Ffs :(

    • Haven't had that problem. This might sound stupid, But set it maybe?

ALso would living in a regional area I.E 7mhz affect tuning channels?

  • +1

For anyone with the LG, Follow this.

Follow this procedure for In-Start, In-Stop and EZ-ADJ
Go to http://myharmony.com/ and log in to your account
Click on "DEVICES" tab and click on "Add a device"
In manufacturer field enter "LG" and in model number add 47LE5300-UC and then click on Add. Your device should now be added.
Click on "Buttons" and select LG 47LE5300-UC in the select box and click on "Go"
On the right hand side of the screen you should see all the commands for this device, just drag the commands you want to a unused button on the remote. You will want EZ-Adjust only.
Once you are done click on "Save"
    Remember to sync your remote

Press the button for EZ-adjust on your harmony remote, Switch to your LG remote from here on (if prompted for a password it is either 0000 or 0413) go to country region or what ever it is called. Change 04 up the top to 06 by typing it in on your LG remote. press OK. Voila Country is now Australia ;)

I suggest deleting what you have put on your remote as you don't want to press ez-adjust again as changing other setting could break your TV.

All credit goes to Spy. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/60368

Thanks bro. On my 525, it was as easy as adding the new TV to the list of devices. Once added, the EZAdjustst menu item was already there by default on the remote screen to select. Did the 0413 password and selected the Country menu item and typed 06 to set AU. Done and the TV resets to AU default settings.

  • If someone wants to buy a Logitech remote to do the above trick, 650 is on for $30 delivered from LTS.
    http://m.logitechshop.com.au/logitech-harmony-650-remote.htm…

    • That makes me laugh, I bought that exact same remote from Logitech 2 weeks ago and used it for that trick haha. ;)

      • +1

        Noice work mate

    • Cheers for the heads up spy! the above trick does what exactly… enable us to get SBS and have the channels correctly numbered?
