[NSW, QLD, ACT] iPad Pro 11" [3rd Gen] (2021) WiFi 16GB/2TB $1597 + Delivery ($0 to Metro/ C&C) @ Officeworks

1510

That's a bargain!! Just for comparison JB Hifi sells it for $2849
It's weird it shows no stock in-store but let's you do Click and Collect or delivery. For people that think it's unobtainable, I have just picked up mine from Click and Collect. I was waiting to pickup before posting to make sure the deal it's obtainable.
If you are extra tightass you can pricematch at Apple if they have stock and use discounted 15% off Apple gift cards.
But $1597 for iPad Pro 11" WiFi 16GB/2TB stock won't last for long that's for sure.

Scalpers stay away!!

I don’t think Apple sell this model anymore, so I don’t think you can price match wth them.

  • +3

That's where Amazon was price match from. Yesterday

    • +2

But that deal it's not available. These deal it is 👍

      • have you decided whether to go with the magic keyboard, magic folio or the logitech touch? Im torn.

        • +2

At the moment I need a screen protector and a case. I bought it not for myself but for birthday gift. If anyone has any good deals on screen protectors or cases that would be awesome.

          • +1

            @Scrooge McDeal: nice gift!

            • +2

@tete: I didn't buy it all by my self. We all chipped in to buy it. But for that price I thought it was worth it.

        • +2

Logitech touch if you use it on the table. Magic is good all rounder but too expensive for what it is. I have both I like Magic Keyboard more but it does cost 2.5-3 times more than Logitech

          • +1
          • @spc12go: Tonight I will start searching for some deals on cases and screen protectors.

            • +1

@Scrooge McDeal: maybe can use the afterpay ebay code or cashback tonight on ebay offer between 7pm and 10pm east coast time I think.

              • @tete: Yeah I will have a look. Screen protector and a case it's a must.

        • +1

I really like the Magic Folio. I like that it has its own USB-C for charging it and the iPad. I don't like the price and the lack of function keys.

The weight is both good and bad. It's a heavy combo though it's stable when used on your lap or on a table.

          • +1

@ihfree: Logitech combo touch is good, as you can take apart the keyboard and the case. It draws power from the iPad. Where as the Magic Keyboard you need to charge it separately. In terms of feel and usage both are very similar. Only good thing about Magic Keyboard is, it’s stable on all kinds of surface and have a very flexible viewing angle, I use it in bed to watch Netflix.

            • +1

              @spc12go:

the Magic Keyboard you need to charge it separately

              Nope, no you don’t.

  • price of a good pc

    • +21

Also the price of a good bicycle. What's your point?

      • +2

        better to buy a pc

        • +13

How's a PC work out for you on public transport, cafes, the couch, bed, etc?

          • @ihfree: get a 2in1 laptop then

            • -1

@froogletom: Yeah, and 1500 is the price of a pretty middling barebones laptop, save for the fact that most 2in1 laptops suck absolute balls.

              • +1
                • +7

@froogletom: I have the 15" version of this, and I find it heavy, with could-be-better battery life. If someone doesn't need full desktop apps, honestly an iPad is a solid option. although in that case I don't see the use case for 16gb/2TB…

                  • -3

@hjcoggan: I kind of think that the EU forcing iOS to open to sideloading is going to result in M1/2 iPads in running desktop apps pretty soon.

                    • @0jay: …Doesn't work like that though. Can't just easily port x86 apps to iOS. Apps would have to be rewritten, and if there was a market for it we'd see full desktop versions on the app store already, regardless of sideloading support. Instead, we get cut-down mobile versions and nothing will change. Aside from just putting macOS on the iPad, Apple could make a compatibility layer for macOS apps, but neither will happen.

                      • @hjcoggan:

Can't just easily port x86 apps to iOS

It’s trivial for apps that are written for MacOS on Apple silicon.

Also, no reason Rosetta can’t run on the same hardware (though I don’t think it likely Rosetta for iPadOS will happen).

Having said that the stuff I have in mind are projects like Transmission and Calibre as egs

If sideloading is enabled (or indeed an open appstore alternative) there’s no regulating what’ll show up there, what Apple see as marketable projects are no longer relevant.

It wasn’t long ago people were negging me for suggesting ARM chips would be in MacOS hardware.

        • +4

Nah, they have different functions. I’ve got the first gen iPad Pro 11” and a laptop. I barely touch the laptop. The iPad fits in my sling bag and can be used anywhere. PCs are too big and awkward to use on the go. When we go OS we just take our iPads.

          • -1

@try2bhelpful: That's exactly how I use my Lenovo Duet 5 with the 13" screen. It cost me a third of this and includes the keyboard cover.

            • @elektron: Negged by a fanboi?

            • @elektron: Your 13” screen won’t fit in my sling bag. BTW I didn’t neg you.

              • @try2bhelpful: Lucky, there's an 11" version, called Duet 3, even cheaper.

                • +2

@elektron: Yeah, it's a nice device but it's not in the same class as an iPad Pro - weaker processor, less ram, less storage, lower quality screen, no Thunderbolt, etc.

That's probably why you got negged. It would be a bit like posting a Yaris on a high end car deal or a APU/celery based system on a high end gaming PC deal.

                  • @ihfree: Thanks for the update. Right now I’m using my iPad Pro to type this message.

                  • @ihfree: I see your point, but he Duet is actually very snappy for real life productivity and will work really well for almost everything, with the exception of maybe high-end gaming or graphic design, and provides a more laptop-like experience than the iPad Pro. The OLED screen on my Duet 5 is also fantastic, the materials and build are top notch and nothing about it screams Yaris or entry-level to me.

To extend your car analogy, I think some people see the iPad Pro not so much as a productivity tool, but as a "high-yield investment", like the infamous OzBargain graduate banker with his 80k Mercedes-Benz. But each to their own.

                    • @elektron: Honestly mate unless you’ve used the iPad Pro you are just kicking tyres in the car yard.

                      • @try2bhelpful: That's a heck of an argument, mate, I've got nothing. And yes, I've used it or I wouldn't be comparing them.

I'm sure you've also used both units and your opinion is as informed as it is considered.

                        • @elektron: You are the one making denigrating comments about “high performance”. Just how much time have you spent on an iPad Pro? However, look at ihfree’s comments if you don’t like mine.

                    • +1

@elektron: Yeah, it’s still entry to mid level at best. Once you move beyond the basics, you’ll start to notice.

                      For example, screen brightness(Source)

                      • Duet - 400 nits
                      • S8 Tab - 463 nits
                      • iPad 2021 - 472 nits
                      • iPad pro - 571 nits

You’ll struggle in bright light with the Duet.

The processor is weak in the Duet and is beaten by even entry level i3 Chromebooks. If you are doing anything beyond the absolute basics, even a basic iPad would be a better choice(see the comments in the review of the S8 tab). iPads do also have the advantage of purpose built tablet apps as developers don’t generally focus on Android tablet.

Now, i’m not saying it’s a bad device and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it in the right circumstance, but it is still entry level or mid level at the very best.

      • Or a bicycle

      • A bicycle for the price of a good ipad?

        • They exist.

    • +1

      Or a shit car

      • +1

My second-hand Yamaha saxaphone cost more than my mate's old Falcon 30 years ago. He didn't understand either.

      • Or a really shit house.

        • A run down house or a toilet?

      • Given the current car market, that's a really shit car.

  • Maybe M3 is on the way

  • +5

    Good price but it’s overkill

    • +1

      Depends what you're killing.

      • +16

this will definitely kill my wallet XD

    • Yeah, I think the only way you’re gonna use all that storage is porn, do you really think film makers are going to shoot the movie with a handheld iPad like the ads. And iPadOS sucks, the chip is so capable its like watching someone buying an Rtx 4090 to play Csgo at 1000frames.

  • +1

better if it is 256GB/512GB with less money

    • +1

Yes that would be ideal. But I was on the hunt for an Ipad pro for a while. This was the best deal I could find, specially if you consider how much it's selling elsewhere.

  • Save 10% more with the use of gift cards?

    • Which one?

      • +1

        this from WW

not sure how to as I never used gc at OW before

        • +1

Last time it was rewards points on the ultimate giftcards, worth 10% off on a similar deal for the 1TB cellular. Crazy good deal imo but if you prefer shopping at coles I spose that takes the shine off it.

        • I got these from WW as it said it works for online purchases at Officeworks on the Ultimate website. It didn't at checkout so i'll return and repurchase when i collect the Ipad.

          • @bogstation: Only accept in store in person I guess

  • +1

I can confirm that even though there was no stock local that they flew it in and delivered it to me today. Delivery is free and you can pick your day but it is a pain there is no smaller delivery window so I had to stay home all day (8am to 5pm).

    • +1

Or send to your local Officeworks.

  • Great deal. Grabbed one for click and collect. Was considering waiting for the next gen but I will only use it for comics and YouTube. Thanks a lot!

    • This is already one gen behind

      • +1

True but given what I’ll be using it for it’s way overkill anyway

        • +7

Given your usage, Air would have suffice. 1169 at edu store for 256gb.

  • +6

Good on you OP for making sure the deal was obtainable before posting. I doff my hat to you sir!

  • +1

Good sized deal, you can even play Diablo on this :)

    • +1

      which diablo tho :o

      • I stumbled upon Diablo Immortal the other day and thought to give it a go since it's free. 12G required on iPad, fml >_<

        • +1

yeah feelsbadman, im stuck on a 64gb ipad so 12gb is almost a quarter of my storage ;(

    • Not enough gold

  • +1

Got the 2TB with cellular. Now I have to come up with something else to do with my $2k of apple gift cards I got yesterday 🤣

    • That is not a problem. NOW you have both of them: Ipad and gift card..)

  • Does Officeworks refund on clearance items?

    • Yes within 30 days

  • +3

Thanks OP - this price was too good to pass up. Reality is that even the M1 is overkill for an iPad so this is really future-proof especially at 2TB.

Also probably would resell for $700-$1,000 in 2-3 years.

    • +2

Yes. I bought for the exact same reason. My surface pro 4 only gives about 1.5 hours battery life with a decent brightness setting and even 2-3 years down the track, I can't think of anything that is close in spec and value.

A surface pro i9 with all the goodies is approx 2500 and I wanted to spend less.

  • so what are the chances of using multiple ultimate home giftcards to pay at officeworks? cant seem to find stock anywhere to do a pricematch at JB :(

    • You can go instore and order it at service desk and pay with the gift cards. You can do click and collect or delivery. JB Hifi doesn't look like there is stock to pricematch. Also don't forget to scan your Flybuys card to collect those points. The only thing I don't know for how long there will stock. I feel like it will sell out quick.

      • This, I did this yesterday, placed order at counter with the gift card.

  • are we able to refund this in case we change our minds? I am not sure if we can refund price to clear items

  • Other than Delivery and Click & Collect, Chatswood NSW is the only store showing stock (3)

    https://nrby.in/officeworks/ipp112tbsw

  • Any good deal on the ipad pro 12.9?

  • +3

Keep getting the “There was an error processing your order” message…hopefully doesn’t mean it’s already sold out… :(

  • Y’all know that wifi iPad has no GPS, right?

    • Y'all know that water is wet, right?

      • The floor. Its made out of floor. Mind blown.

        • Except when the floor is lava.

      • +1

I once told someone who wanted to run Navionics on a yacht that they didn’t need cellular, which is technically correct. But they still needed a cellular iPad because the wifi-only has no GPS. I didn’t understand why until I learned that the GPS happens to be on the same board as the cellular module. Pardon me for being slow.
