    Still too expensive

      $1100 phone

      • +4

Got it for close to that so you are correct

        • +1

          EEP?

          • +2

@CurrentCalculations: What's the EEP if i may ask?

            • +1

@SaberX: Sorry, I meant EPP (Samsung Employee Partnership Program).
There are a handful of companies, whose employees can purchase Samsung products at discounted prices.
They can get up to 50% off RRP at some new phone releases.

            • @SaberX: It's a 50% off voucher certain employees get.

They're commonly sold on ozbargain as well each time a new Samsung gets released

        • I had the opportunity to buy it through EEP for $1149 but still turned it down. It's an excellent phone if you need the upgrade, but I still love my OnePlus 7 Pro :)

          • +2

            @Zackeroo: $1124.50

            • +1

@g0dskitchen: Ah yea that's the number. Regardless, it still seems a little excessive considering I still love my 7 Pro. This was the first flagship phone I ever bought, and even after almost 4 years now, it still impresses me everyday. I'll be looking into the S24 Ultra, but won't have the opportunity to grab it through EEP though as I won't be working in that industry in a year from now.

            • @g0dskitchen: Was it when it was released? I changed jobs recently and now have access to "Industry Partnership Program", but it's only slightly cheaper than the official store

              • @Voi: No. It ends on 31st of March. Not all EPP gets 50% off. Also all the accessories too. Cases, ear buds and all those stuff.

                • @g0dskitchen: Mine is only 20% off, bummer. Any big companies which get 50%? I can probably ask someone else to order for me.

            • @g0dskitchen: @g0dskitchen: Do they offer free $250 voucher to buy accessories as well on EPP?

              • @nova2k: Not with 50% off deal. Phone and accessories already on 50% off discount.
I'm not sure about other deals. My work gets 50%

          • @Zackeroo: Have the same thing lol

    • +13

It’s Samsung, will be half price in couple of months

      • Hope your name holds its value.

      • +5

Not sure if s22 ultra was down to half price ever, or I missed the deal.

        • Not sure if it's just me, but it feels this time around, the S23 Ultra is being discounted much lower and faster than previously. Ironic considering Apple does the exact opposite with their phones. RRP for this phone is $2249, yet we have a deal for $1838 within a month of release. iPhone 14 Pro series on the other hand has barely had a decrease since it's release back in September.

          • +1

@Zackeroo: I think the 14 Pro series has some discounts right now ($100 off).

            • @AirJordan23: My point exactly. Apple (being Apple) only feel they can discount their 6-month-old phones by $100. Meanwhile, this Amazon deal is $411 from the RRP. I see some huge margins here for Samsung, prices are very over inflated for sure

              • +1

@Zackeroo: You are right about that. Most of the phones right now are overpriced. It is almost the same price of a Macbook Pro M1 or Air M2.

              • +2

@Zackeroo: For reference, I think Apple is watching

                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/764243

                • @AirJordan23: Heh, how generous. $200 off now

                  • @Zackeroo: Amazon saw our comments here that's why they discounted the Apple 14 Pro to have at least a fair comparison of the two phones. Lol

              • @Zackeroo: Apple also have huge margins, likely bigger margins than Samsung as they make more of the same model. This phone would probably cost less than $500 to make.

Apple is a case study in brand power, Samsung has to compete with every other Android while Apple only compete with their older models.

          • @Zackeroo: Apple are just stubborn that way.

          • @Zackeroo: Because when people are sucked in Apple system, there is no way out, Samsung is only 1 of many Android branded phones.

        • Yeah it was more than half. Got mine for $600

      • -1

        Yeah , that's a ridiculous statement !

      • -1

        Cringe comment

  • +4

It must be a tough time for Samsung to try to sell this ultra-expensive model this year as I have been seeing so many promotions since they released this s23 products line…….

    • +10

With their over inflated prices I'm not overly surprised of the discounts. Samsung.. The Apple of the Android world..

    • +1

That's always how they've done their promos. Best deals are on release when you get the highest trade in bonus+accessory bundle deals. The deals gradually get sh*tter but are constantly there to reduce the over inflated rrp.

$1800 would've gotten you a 512gb ultra and watch 5 back on release.

    • i didnt even sell one at launch day @ jb. lol

      • +2

Looks like they need to hire a better salesman

        • i dont care abt phones because thats not where i make my money. i make money from signing up ppl to plans $$

  • +6

It's not worth the price tag. Samsung has to understand that they can't just drop a phone and expect people to buy it at whatever premium price they put on it

    • +13

I guess more people buy a $2500 phone marked down to $1800 than a phone just priced at $1800.

Maybe next year they should try an RRP of $15000 and mark it down to $1800…..

      • The House strategy

      • The absolutely do. That's why the same things go on sale at Coles and Woolworths every 2 months, it's built into the marketing strategy, they aren't responding to poor sales with discounts

    • +3

And apple get a pass on that , correct ?

  • +17

Time to dip into that Super …..

  • +4

Completely agree. They've been Pixel 7 Pro deals for $950ish. Not many people can justify paying 2x that for an ultra.

    • I suppose its only a fair comparison if you go on the pixel 7p price in its release month. JB currently have the pixel 7p at 1599, the s23U is a way better phone for just $200 more.

      • JB selling the P7P for $1599 is a joke. It regularly drops down to $1,349 so unless you're blind to the fact that you're buying a full-price phone that is consistently discounted, it's not really a fair comparison to say the S23U is only $200 more. It was $1,349 from the 16th of Feb to 2nd of March this year anyway, so a pretty big chunk of time for people to pick it up. Wouldn't be surprised if it goes back on sale again within a week or two

        • The S23U was just released last month so id say it would be a fairer comparison to look at the P7P 512gb price a month after release and compare.

          • @Spendmore: P7P released mid October. Since we're talking JB, the phone was discounted to $1,349 on 21st of November. Still a ~$500 difference between the two.

            • @Zackeroo: You could justify the S23 Ultra's extra $500 - one extra camera lens (3x), the whole S-Pen functionality, objectively better screen and much better CPU/GPU combination, local support (online only for google) but if you dont really need 512GB in a phone 128GB P7 Pro is literally half the cost.

In all this I have to say that Pixel 7 Pro has a much better camera than the galaxy. I dont know why people keep on pushing 10x and the 3x zoom lenses on S23 Ultra (or Ultra's before) especially 10x which has a very small sensor, a very small aperture and is pretty poor in anything less than idea lighting conditions. Even in idea lighting conditions, the per pixel sharpness is poor - it looks like a painting with smeared details through and through. Its utterly useless indoors and in low light. Pixel 7 Pro inspite of not having a dedicated 10x zoom lens produces better pictures at 10x than galaxy's native lens.

During pre-order I was able to haggle a 512GB S23 Ultra at JB Hi-Fi to $1870 (with $50 leather case and $13 official screen protector), plus $500 S22 trade-in, plus $300 bonus trade-in, plus $250 JB Gift Card (which I sold for $220), plus 3% off JB Gift Cards for $33 off = $817 total cost. Pre-order deals were sweet.

    • Wow nice

    • +18

You paid $817 to upgrade S22 to S23.

      • +4

        And all the extra work..

      • +2

If we're not including the S22 value, it was still $1317 for the phone. Was much worth it though, the S22 base battery life was horrendous…

        • Was it an S22 Ultra?
For me, it's still manageable and no improvement in charging speed.

  • +2

Buying from the official samsung website is much cheaper…
You get an extra $500 worth for trade in, you can trade in from watches to tablets to phones (i traded a watch 4 for $70+$500 bonus which made the s23 ultra 512gb down to $1679)
Plus you get an extra $250 voucher at the time of checkout to buy whatever you want from there accessories cases, chargers, cables, tablets, watches ect…

  • +2

$1800!? Gtfo. Storage ain't that expensive Samsung

    • +10

      Tell apple.

      • -3

And samsung thinks they can be apple. They cant and hence those pre-order deals which are literally half price on day 1! Why not price it as such?

        • No way, not being apple is what makes Samsung great and they know it.
I cant recall apple having flip phones or styluses but give them a couple of years and im sure they will.

  • +2

Government store is currently $1779 plus $250 voucher to use on accessories and half price "care" .
With a trade in for last years model it comes down to $1000.
I'd rather another $250 off price than an extra set of ear buds that I'd never use.
The government employees multistore is very hard to log in though.
Was tempted but think I will wait until next year's model comes out.

  • +8

wow $1800 phone, interest rate on my home loan 5.99%. No Thanks, stick to my old Trusty Note 10+ 5G 512gb on a Kogan 500gb flex prepaid plan. Shoutout to mum for splitting the plan $150 each.

  • +1

this G82 would be more than enough for most people's needs. Can't justify buying $1500+ for a phone.

    • Software support won't be though !

      • You can buy another one in a couple of years and still be out ahead

  • +1

A bargain at just "looks at sheet" nearly two grand… >_>

  • Is price match at Jb possible? Anyone tried?

    • Jb also comes with $250 gift card. But about $400-500 more.

    • They usually price match AmazonAU, although I'm not sure if the Prime subscription is a factor though.

      • Most of the JB staff have a different approach when it comes to price matching from Amazon. Most of the time they won't unless it's a season for sale (e.g. black Friday, Father's day, EOFY). YMMV

        • +1

I think it depends on the store. My local Homebush store always price matches AmazonAU as long as items are in stock. Never had an issue with this before

  • +1

Got mine from officeworks preorder for $1.7k+ ish with Costco price beat minus $250 for preorder bonus and $300 for extra trade in value for my old phone with a massive crack. Not a bad phone for $1.1k+

  • +1

So … Is this meant to be cheap?

  • -2

Google, ad company, thanks you all for your data!

  • I think the price for these s23 ultras just got to become too expensive. Even for someone reasonably well off, struggling to justify paying $2k for a phone. I know I'm thinking back to my s8+ days, but even my oppo find x2 pro on sale was mid $700's. sure it's normally low $1000 but i think alot of 'appetite' turns off beyond $1-1.4k, for most people who splurge out abit. $2k really pushes it, especially trying to get 512 gb or 1 tb you're paying well past $2k, versus in the past you chucked a 512gb micro sd card off ozbargain for $60-80 in t o expand.

I do hear great things that the s23 ultra has a magnificent battery life? Is it true? For that reason I'm keen to own it but i definitely would only get it if the 512gb dipped below $1.4k, which i doubt.

    • I got iPhone 13 Pro 512GB for $1597. Just saying :)

      • +2

And in two or three years time you'll be looking to offload it , just saying…

        • no, this one is a keeper!

  • 200MP camera. Better get that storage.

    • Looks at Telstra's 300GB a month plan for 2 years - BOOM $4399.80!!

    • -1

Have you looked at the quality of images produced at 200MP?

  • Yikes no way I'd spend that much on a mobile phone!

  • What charger are people getting for this? Coming from an S10+ here should i bother or just use old slow charges.

    • Any PPS 45w+ should do

  • +1

    How is this a deal?
Lots of cheaper deal in the past few weeks

    • Previous deal required trade in a phone to get trade up code, talking to samsung live chat to get a coupon, and signing up to samsung newsletter for voucher. You also need to deal with Asurion who charge you if you don't send in the phone even if you didn't make a purchase.

      It's a whole mess.

  • Hate all you want but I went to Samsung store to buy at launch and samples the camera in store.

Very disappointed and decided not to buy. Took 5 shots back to back with my iPhone 13 pro max. The iPhone murdered it.

Colours, clarity everything. I was shocked. Only reason I went to the store was to choose the colour.

    • I have been using iphone and samsung flagship phones for years and i like samsung features and use it the most . But when it comes to pictures/videos I prefer my iPhone as it looks alot better
