bne -> hongqiao is via melbourne AND guangzhou. yikes

CZ's hub is in CAN what can you do

If you're going to PVG try MU via SYD. I don't think there's int'l flights to SHA originate from Australia at all? Isn't SHA is mainly for domestics as it's a multi-mode transport hub.

      • there used to be direct flights with eastern i think (to pvg). if i have to stopover, id rather somewhere easy like singapore or KL. the free hotel offered in guangzhou and xian was ok but wasnt worth the several hours of waiting at the airport

      • SHA still operates very limited number of international flights but a lot less compared to PVG.

It'll never happen. Not with the declining brain cells of its youth and clueless Government.

Democracy sucks when you are in a society of idiots

          • -4

@CptnObvious: Democracy in the the US LOL, a panda has more brains in its poo tube than Trump has in his family, and in America, guns have more rights than the people.
Any Ozbargain deals for popcorn ,grab it. If Trump gets back in US implosion.
            If Trump doesn't, implosion.
This is why China has gone DILLIGAF on America.
            Implosion.

Plenty as I can see, you wish granted 💪💪

    • +16

Yeah, don't care the negs anymore, just look down, they are already there. It is the current Australia political correctness to promote this BS anti-China sinophobia campaign, so they will last for a long time. They had no knowledge of the Asian history whatsoever, so they just follow whatever that filled to them. But I have enough of those BS hatred! Ignore the haters and set my next trip to China, let the hater hates.

      • +1

so what's the Asian history you spoke of? CCP is the most anti-Chinese history I known of, lots of temples shutdown, memorials torned apart, discourage use of local dilects, and so on.

        • -1

Sorry shouldn't jump into a political debut here, but I will strongly recommend you to get a ticket, fly yourself to Tibet, Xinjiang or wherever you are believing all those accusations happened. There must be a hellhole, no? But I was there when all this BS started. And guess why are so many luxury stores still opening up there including the Tesla, doesn't make sense right?

To oversimplify the answerers to your questions:
          1. Lots of temples got shut down then even more got built and rebuilt, especially the mosques in the last few years and for sure it is causing some religious conflicts, as I have heard from my Chinese friend in Xinjiang. And China is NOT a single religion state considered it's deeply mixing races, cultures, religions, and interest groups too, like those extreme environmentalists and Animal Rights Activists, hey they got 1.4billion of people living there, just think about it. But I am afraid the journalists in Straya had barely told Aussies any of the real story or context under their very bias and baiting anti-China titles. You see, once a Buddhism temple got torn down because it was built inside a national park area and triggered the local environmentalists, then they protested to the local government and eventually force the local government to tear it down and upset the Buddhists, so Buddhist decided to put their version of the story on the internet and caused some debuts. But then, it caught the eyes of our journalists, and they titled such story as "China suppressed religion and destroyed temples" and guess who's the buyers of this story?

          1. China is probably the most diverse nation that using all the different dialects, just go there and you will see. And in school they are teaching the Mandarin as the common tongue which is obviously necessary, and also they have made the English compulsory too, but not everyone is happy about it of course. But as the repeat urbanisation going on, it had brought lots of social problems too, including the languages. Like the demands of using common tongue from the audiences that migrated to the city or areas, such demands had been increasing a lot recently and so the local radio or TV is feeling the sting of changes, which is also a very common sense thing. But again, in AUS mainstreams, our journalist will put it like "CCP suppress of using local dialects", And again, guess who's the buyer of such story?

          2. All the hot topics like the Tibet and Xinjiang Muslims, camps cotton pickers, are even more complicated to Australian because we do not have any knowledge of them, some of the problems can trace back into thousands of years in the Chinese history, also the SCS dispute too. You see, with such long and complicated history, plus the America hegemony and all the geopolitics, China is never as simple as just black and white, you need to read all those histories, or you can find a mainland Chinese friend to give you a tour, just like me, much easier.

          3. So just try to empty your cup, drop your blind hatred, buy a ticket, go there, talk to the people. You will see with your very own eyes! And see the true face of our Australia mainstreams right now, the Murdoch corp, the ASPI and so on. Honestly, they are bad, real bad.

Again, here is not an appropriate place for such topic, but after I have been there and then seeing enough of this hatred trend going on all over Australia like 247 nonstop, in this great nation that I called home, it had really upset me. Such lies and blind hatred, it won't benefit any of us, actually it is hurting us! And even just for the sake of learning your enemy, just go there and learn the truth, you might know what you are hating better.

And that's all I can help you with. Our conversation should be ended here. My apology again for the inappropriate use of OZbargain.

          • -2

@RooBun: That will earn good social score points.

          • @RooBun: A friend of mine visited Xinjiang around 2018 and saw that the Uyghurs were oppressed as (profanity). I don't really believe your white washed, overly optmisitic views on China's human rights.

Not to say that the west is any good with them either, but frankly you're downplaying human rights atrocities to make China look better.

            • -1

@[Deactivated]: Yeah, right, and I was in a family that was extremely supporting the government fighting the already infiltrated terrorism, as their kid got killed in the bombing. And do you know Uyghurs are not the only race in Xinjiang, also not the only Islam in China? But why, why they will start killing their own brother and sis? For what reasons? And Why China use its own way to actually eliminated the terrorism without sending their troops to bomb the crap out of other countries? You know how many "Stan" just around China's border?
So those victims of the terrorism attack didn't count as humans? Except for the terrorist that keeps playing the human rights card, and used by the "west". Of course! Who cares about what the fence was built for as long as they are there, it will be the proof of human rights atrocities, right? This is a really sad joke, you know? How about go there and ask the Uyghurs business why they fenced their shops? Schools? Markets? Subway Stations?

"Not to say that the west is any good with them either",
That's actually the huge problem here. Ok, fine, like you have said that China is just hiding all the info from us, but do you know your "west" is literally lying straight to everyone's face, yet people are buying all the BS without even tried to understand it, it is just pure blind hatred from the heart! And how many times those evidences and stories from the ASPI, CNN BBC got debunked and even became the mocking topics on the Chinese Social platform? The Sat images that telling us it is the concentration camp but turned out just a factory and school? The fence that built by the Uyghurs became the evidence of government oppression? The seasonal cotton pickers became the case of labour slavery, what a F joke! You know, those seasonal cotton pickers are probably earning more than most of us here?! But have any Aussie dare to stand out and say: "We have enough of your lie?!" we don't know, we don't care, we justified the hatred, because it is China! And see what path such hatred will lead us to!

And 2018? Tell your friend to compare Xinjiang Uyghurs to how we treated the aboriginal people!

I have enough of this topic, if you're really keen to prove I am wrong, go there and live there for 5+years, and learn from the Uyghur people there, including many other races living beside them. China is very a complicated place, its people, cultures, its history and everything. China has the religious problems, human right problems(irony, against its main race Han but not the minorities), censorship problems, it got lots of problems! But this Xinjiang concentration camp BS is just not one of them.

Go try to learn your enemy, or "China" will be just a name for nothing but your blind hatred, and it will be pointless to talk about.

              • -1

                @RooBun: RooBot?

              • -1

@RooBun: Mate you love CCP and Xinjiang so much why do you go live there. Sure they can spare a spot for you in the concentration camps!!

Just a bit of history for you. The CCP acquire both Tibet and Xingjiang trough annexation because of their rich resource, just like how Putin invade Ukraine. The Han people has no right to be there and it the local's right to drove them out.

its so funny you are calling people claiming their right as terrorism…. Guess you call the Hong Kong protester terrorism too? They has been patient and peaceful for almost two decade and look what it got them? They fail but at least they try!!

                • @syswong: What a sarang…mate go get a life, seriously, maybe take the basic Asia history class first?

                • +1

@syswong: And I am not gonna waste any more time on you because the "CCP annexation" can be traced back to BD100 something…, I don't know how you can reckon that as your "CCP annexation", but compare to the AUS history? Should we just pack our things and go back to GB?
Just beat it, mate, and hate China all you want, but for me, I will stay far away from this blind hatred and the stupid war. Of course, you can fight your own war to the death, but just don't count me in, k?

                • +1

@syswong: Oh almost forgot the HK protesters, I was supporting them until they have gone nuts. But I bet you love to group up with those "protesters" who got a habit to burn people alive.

                  • @RooBun: Tell us more about this "habit" ie "a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up."

    • +1

You would say: waiting for some refugees from HK to comment.
      And you certainly get one.

      • Dictionary defines refugees:

a person who has escaped from their own country for political, religious, or economic reasons or because of a war

Thanks for acknowledge the wrong doing of CCP and New Hong Kong government.

          • +3

@Vampy: With no free press. No freedom of speech, no political freedoms, ALL information controlled by the state. Yep, sounds lovely.

It's working well for Russia, the general population are just so glad that they are doing the right thing by taking out the terrible nazis that are running their neighbouring country, and their newspapers/tv/online all say that the "special military operation" is going great, very few casualties fighting the terrible nazis. All going well.

          • +1

@Vampy: I can see you are either brain wash by mainland CCP media or

you are the ones that want to turn a blind eye on one of the most traumatic event against human rights in the last decade.

Either way its a waste of time taking to thugs like you, i just feel like this has to be said. You have a good day.

BTW you love CCP so much please go back. This is Australia and we don't need your CCP propaganda here.

Right before the oversea student rush in Jun->Jul. No wonder the price.

    • singapore has decent prices if you book a few months ahead

      • +1

Cathay Pacific got similar deals, too but Mr. employer says no LOL

    • And CZ cancelled or rescheduled quite a few flights to smaller cities via their CAN hub. I'm one of the unlucky guys who have to stay overnight in Guangzhou now, both directions (ouch). CZ's free transfer hotel is decent but the waiting line in the humid summer days always frustrates me so I'd rather take the subway and get to nearest convenience hotel instead, which at least are situated in a busier part of the town with some nightlife and the overall cost won't exceed $50 with early airport shuttle included.

  • +2

I'm heading to China tomorrow for the first time since COVID, paid over $2k for Economy though!

    • +1

I guess because of last minute ticket? I saw sub 1k prices about a months ago for dates around now on CZ (or MU if you're going from SYD)

      • Yeah last minute ticket and also needed to do the 144 stopover visa. My Virtual APEC card has China removed (until May 1), and I couldn't get a Visa appointment in time. So booked MEL>PVG>KUL on one ticket (6 day stopover in Shanghai), then KUL>MEL on another. So technically Shanghai is a stopover for ticketing reasons, even though I'm using it as a destination.

        • +1

          Learned something new everyday. Cheers

        • Why don't you use the physical APEC card?

    • +1

Lucky u! I'd wait for cheaper flight, too poor

      • I don't think cheaper flights will happen if you wait these days.

I've noticed it keeps going up especially towards peak periods.

    • If this could you feel easy… My friend (real) spent AU$18k for a economy ticket last September… + quarantine fees too.

First link was a writer from the Atlantic Council, a US funded think tank that has pushed for much of the foreign policy that lead to war, instability and neoliberalism

Second link has no source for the claim, but I’ll guarantee its from Radio Free Asia or Epoch Times, literally created by the CIA for anti-China/communist propaganda

        • -2

"US funded think tank that has pushed for much of the foreign policy that lead to war, instability and neoliberalism"

How are you comparing this to the CCPs desire to wanting to take over an independently controlled territory with military might?
With CCPs desire for territorial waters through making artificial islands in the south china sea?
And with creating concentration camps for an ethic minority within China? That was proven through leaked Chinese data.
How about the organ harvesting during capital punishment?
How about China growing their nuclear forces when thier ally Russia, and its competitor the US is reducing its stock?
How about China loosing its (explicit) over Australia acquiring nuclear submarines for their own sovereign protection?
How about China intentionally not disclosing and complying with the WHO about what occurred during COVID and its origin?

Seems like you guys are wanting Nanjing just the other way around…

          • -1

            @AircraftFreight:

How are you comparing this to the CCPs desire to wanting to take over an independently controlled territory with military might?

You mean the territory that china will win over economically, that is only recognised by 12 out of 193 countries?

With CCPs desire for territorial waters through making artificial islands in the south china sea?

You mean the small swathes of land that barely make up a big park, on their border, and at most a diplomatic issue between neighbours?

And with creating concentration camps for an ethic minority within China? That was proven through leaked Chinese data.

Concentration camps =/= reeducation camps for stamping out muslim extremeism that the US is fond of taking advantage of for creating instability.

How about the organ harvesting during capital punishment?

Falun Gong/Epoch time/RFA talking points that has never been proven. Same people that say ridiculous things about North Korea, like general killed with artillery, who then shows up a year later alive, or everyone with Kims daughters name must change it…

How about China growing their nuclear forces when thier ally Russia, and its competitor the US is reducing its stock?

Reducing their stock? Such a bull shit point when nuclear treaties are getting ripped up and stock is being retrofit to be more advanced and deadly, I'll sell you a bridge if you think the US stopped making nukes.

How about China loosing its (explicit) over Australia acquiring nuclear submarines for their own sovereign protection?

Don't even get me started on Australia's biggest blunder. Lose - lose situation for Australia when the best thing to have done was to not join the arms race to appease our western masters.

How about China intentionally not disclosing and complying with the WHO about what occurred during COVID and its origin?

The lab it supposedly originated from according to the CIA was a joint international lab, with big funding from the US. Still if it originated from the wet markets like scientists believe then what exactly is the problem, countries had plenty of time to close borders

Here's a great resource that you can educate your self on to get rid of the sinophobia brainwashing you've endured. The US not only has military hegemony but cultural one, so its expected that people eat anti-china propaganda on the daily, I was like you at one point lmao, just gotta stop taking reddit comments at face value and do a little research and critical thinking.

Q1R: You mean the territory that china will win over economically, that is only recognised by 12 out of 193 countries?
A1: The country that is currently has had a pledge from the western powers to defend at all cost? And the one that is pumping billions into securing financial interests?

Q2R: You mean the small swathes of land that barely make up a big park, on their border, and at most a diplomatic issue between neighbours?
A2: Well it might seem like that, until China starts to draw up new borders using those new islands? How about we make a few islands of the coast of China and call them US bases? As the bases using satellite imagery shows a military presence.

Q3R: Concentration camps =/= reeducation camps for stamping out muslim extremeism that the US is fond of taking advantage of for creating instability.
A3: According to the BBC certified documentary, the PPT used to train these soldiers are to use extreme torture methods and to work as slave labors to build highways, railroads ect - and cases of extermination, go figure Nanjing 2023.

Q4R: Falun Gong/Epoch time/RFA talking points that has never been proven. Same people that say ridiculous things about North Korea, like general killed with artillery, who then shows up a year later alive, or everyone with Kims daughters name must change it…

A5: Nuclear treaties being torn up by Russia? Your ally with its SATAN II missiles that can destroy all of China in 20 missiles? The US has remained on its position.

Q6R: Don't even get me started on Australia's biggest blunder. Lose - lose situation for Australia when the best thing to have done was to not join the arms race to appease our western masters.
A6: Not, I among many others support this arrangement, better then the fail of the French contract, we can hold the upcoming Trident III ICBMs which a single sub can destroy all of China with. If the specified AUKUS II subs can hold its projected 12 silos. Rudd in 07 appeased China, no longer the case.

Q7R: The lab it supposedly originated from according to the CIA was a joint international lab, with big funding from the US. Still if it originated from the wet markets like scientists believe then what exactly is the problem, countries had plenty of time to close borders
A7: Hardly a denial, medical examinations of the pathogen suggest that this could have been detected and alive/mutating in August 2019.

Nah I've read a lot of the links from that resource and it's really good at helping me understand how anti-china propaganda works and where it stems from. Again I used to be just like you, pissed off at China because of what I read on reddit, especially during the Hong Kong riots, but then I started to read about how information is weaponised, used to manufacture consent for war, and got into each of the claims against China, which was debunked or a big exaggeration. I also realised how they was a force for good in the global south and Middle East compared to the US, which is very telling.

@AircraftFreight: How much do you get paid to be a NED/ASPIbot spammer?

            • @Vampy: Nothing actually. Looking at your profile here on OZB. 4 comments and 1 being.

"Bots in the comments still writing fan fics for their tiananmen 2.0 when the CCP resolved it with 0 deaths LMAO. Mad they didn't get the massacre they wanted, weird"

Go back to Beijing, better yet stay there

              • @AircraftFreight: Just shown how easy is to beat the anti ghost system here🤣🤣🤣

I think I should start a few more account.

            • +3

@Vampy: I swear, spamming think tank talking points to manufacture consent for war except this time it won't be the same as Iraq.

      • Your comments are as unhinged as Vampy's. 😯

          Can be the same person….

I can set that up in a heartbeat, just can't be border to play with the little pinks and 50 cents anymore.

Good deal especially for those with family to go visit… but for me, the time to visit China has passed. Far too many awful developments and the general trajectory they are on as a civilization has diminished the interest for me. Credit to those that make it out and make a new life.

    • -1

      Example of awful developments?

      • +5

Here's your bait, now I'm sure you have a list of 'Australian Atrocities' ready to go:

it is a fact that the Chinese Communist Party has been criticized for various actions and policies, such as human rights violations, censorship, and suppression of political dissidents. Some of the specific events that have been criticized include the Tiananmen Square massacre, the treatment of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, and the suppression of democracy in Hong Kong.

        • +3

I actually thought he was referring to awful infrastructure developments like shitty trains, shopping malls, roads, etc. I dont really care about human rights. You dont like a place, get out.

          • @mrvaluepack: That’s the issue. You can’t. Ask Xu Xiaodong.

            • @nomoneynoproblems: Thats just one loser. Why are there so many of them living in NSW and VIC then?

              • -1

@mrvaluepack: Explain what makes him a loser again? And what’s there to explain about Chinese immigration in Australia? We live in beautiful country…

                • -2

@nomoneynoproblems: You claimed people that dont like china, cant get out of china. I say bs. If you dont like china, dont say anything and just get out. Those held against their will are just loud mouth attention seekers.

                  • +1

@mrvaluepack: Lol what. You of all people should know that is bs. There are a lot of people that are looking to leave China, and a hell of a lot more looking to move their money out too.

I applaud this comment, I recommend travelling to Taiwan, a real nice place and with daily flights.

      • -1

sadly devoid of tourist worthy sights

      • +2

Any recommendations? Looking to go this August.

        • +4

Plenty of websites, the food and culture in Taipei was enough for me, thriving city with pre CCP Chinese culture, a new insight to myself.

Short answer: no. There's restaurants and city life. A gorge or two. Nothing breathtaking

        • I strongly suggest you go there and see with your own eyes, then you can tell on your own. There is so much to experience and to see in China as there are just so many varieties. Southern China will be a bit hot in August, but the summer season is also easy to travel around.

Flying to Shanghai will be usually cheaper than flying to smaller cities. You can start from Shanghai and choose either to travel up to the North or down towards the south. I guess you may want to check out Beijing as well. It's a great city to know the heavy and long history and culture. Many of the mountain areas are also amazing, for example Mount Hua (in Shanxi province) and the karst features in Guilin city (Guangxi).

Anyway, so much for you to check out and you will have your own idea about China. I'm pretty sure 99% of comments here from those haters have never been to China.

          • +2

@OzLeo000: I've been to Beijing, Shanghai, Luoyang, Xi'an, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Suzhou.

I now refuse to visit this dictatorship. As the grandchild of a Czechoslovakian holocaust survivor who lived through a dozen concentration camps before being liberated by the US military, to see what China has done to their Uighur minority is one of the crimes of this century. The quiet genocide.

Not to mention using COVID to implement a health/security big brother state.

While visiting the Nanjing massacre museum, commemorating the 300,000 murdered under Japanese occupation…. I wondered when construction will start on the museum for the 30,000,000 victims of Chinese communism under Mao.

            • @zan5hin: just after they build one for the Japanese massacre of china in ww2…. is that still happening?

  • +26

With China expanding its territories I will just wait for China to come to me

Time to change your name to Ricky Xi lol.

    • time to move to Vic then… we'll be building our first bullet train soon, direct to WA, we don't need the other states.

I am relying on the APEC Business Card here but from what I have heard, Visa times have been atrocious - please get your Visas done before you book travel. Been a nightmare for many.

    If you work for any company that has had issues with China or work in a position that will make you vulnerable to China such as a journalist, Executives of a highly competitive company that is challenging Chinese corporations, government officials ect, such as former ABC China Reporters - avoid non-essential travel and if you are, notify your nearest Australian Consulate about your travel in advance;

Example of an Exit Visa being denied: https://johnmenadue.com/you-will-be-put-into-detention-forme…

If you need any urgent assistance: https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/i-need-urgent-help#:~:text=1300%20555%20135%20(within%20Australia,2%206261%203305%20(from%20overseas)

    Australian DFAT Number: +61 2 6261 3305

Australian Embassy and Consulate Locations: https://www.dfat.gov.au/about-us/our-locations/missions/our-…

    And for everyone

Stay on your feet OZB'ers, China is starting to hawk onto incoming tourists and for some business travelers, dont be stupid, dont say anything stupid, dont post anything stupid onto Chinese forum pages whilst in China or you will face consequences without any Diplomatic Support from Australian Embassies and Consulates.

      • +5

100% agreeable, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangkok, Thailand, Taiwan are countries that are far better. And far cheaper.

      • +1

there are some mountains that are worth visiting but cities aren'tworth

      • -2

Nope, this is what I was briefed on by a particular entity.

Of course for you Vampy, seems like you are a PRC citizen so you are protected, This is excluding you, this is for non Chinese citizens,

        • +2

"a particular entity" lmfao you sound like those """""journalists""""" being denied and banned by China.

    • +2
