    Wow! Now that's a bargain

  • -8

    Blackwood mehhh, the worst

  • +1

    Good deal!

  • +9

Another good deal at tradetools for a 4 piece combo, if you wanted to swap for 2 x 4 amp/h batteries and a grinder and torch . https://www.tradetools.com/dewalt-18v-4-0ah-4-piece-combo-ki…

    • That's a good deal. Why you don't post it?

      • +10

        I'm shy

    • +1

      All these are also brushless?

      • +1

        Brushed, not worth it.

        • +1

Don't agree - have all these as individual tools and they work fine (ignoring the torch obviously). I also have the brushless versions too and actually prefer the angle grinder in this package over the brushless version for handling etc. I accept the brushless versions have more power but it's never been an issue in practice for me. I just grab whatever is nearest for the job in hand.

I also have a couple of DeWalt 14.4V tools that Masters sold and they still work fine - they can also be modified in 5 mins to take the normal 18V battery and I've used them in that way with both 14.4V or 18V batteries, whatever is to hand, for many years now with no issues.

If I was starting buying a set of tools I'd recommend this kit to anyone as I know it will be reliable, have a massive range of other skins and you'll have many years of support.

          • +2

@freddofrog42: Exactly. Brushed is perfectly fine for the average ozbargainer

          • @freddofrog42: How can I modify 14.4 to take 18v battery?

            • @alexm1: You add the right resistance.
Do note resistance to the deal might be futile

            • @alexm1: Look carefully at an 18V skin and then compare with the 14.4V one - you'll need to remove a small amount of plastic from the of the battery slide area on the 14.4V tool as it physically prevents an 18V battery entering the base of a 14.4V tool. No need to modify the battery.

and you can see the price wow! how do they do that.

    • +1

      Says page not found

  • Dang that’s good price, no power stack batteries but still.. 195 less than I paid.

Can’t comment on the store as I have never purchased there

At these prices it's starting to rival Ozito for value. Not sure on the rest of the skin's range and whether they're good value or not.

    • +2

this is good if that is all you are going to buy.

here in australia, ozito is the way to go. long warranty, easy replacements, great sales, cheap batteries, wide range of products, etc…

DIY i would go with ozito
Tradie i would go with Makita

      • +8

Tradie i would go with Makita

But the boys on the construction site might not notice me unless I have the latest generation of Milwaukee and a sleeve tattoo…

        • Yeah I think I’ve decided I’m going to go with Makita despite the higher prices. You really have to research your model numbers though. Higher is not better. Now it’s going to be the slow acquisition of tools to replace my mostly ALDI stuff that actually works quite well but I need to get some bigger batteries. The 4.0AH aren’t enough on some of the garden tools. I guess tradies have the six station charger or just a bunch of 4/5/6/8AH batteries depending on the job.

My mate says he has a decent collection of 2.0AH for his Makita Drill and Driver as they are so much lighter to hang on the belt.

      • best to see opinions on individual ozito tools. quality varies between tools.

battery circular saw is a total joke, won't even cut pine pallets. rotary hammer drill is pretty good. angle grinder not bad as long as you don't work it too hard

        • +2

It's a loss-leader brand strategy created to build a house-brand that will return massive profit for a major retail group, e.g.

          1. In a high-growth segment, build a strong looking brand (distinctive colours, name, logo, etc.)
          2. Focus on value and performance (up to a price)
          3. Establish supply and new product development process
          4. Reduce losses in the first year or two, by reducing unit cost and increasing prices where the market allows
          5. Profit while growing the segment and supporting other brands, especially those that compliment the house brand (better quality brands, etc.)

Consumers lose as they get drawn into the ecosystem with introductory products like drill/drivers, but the overall range tends to have short lifespans. Too late once you bought that $99 cheapie though, as they now have yet another incompatible battery ecosystem, and the tools are mostly sub-par.

My experience is that Ozito has lower TCO, but when added to frustrations and impacts due to quality and performance… would be better off with a better brand. There are some good things (at the price), of course: The best I ever had was in the early days of the brand: A small 12V drill and driver kit (green and grey) which was incredibly robust and long lasting. But they discontinued the batteries and they have proven impossible to rebuild (so far).

        • I use the circular for cutting pine studs and similar when i cant be bothered getting the a 240v powered saw out. Works fine. You using the 4ah battery?

          • @Duff5000: yes I did.
I mean I paid $38 for the saw so can't complain. Well yes I can, it's basically landfill. It may be quality control issues.
The rotary hammer drill on the other hand has been great.
They're good value, especially for occasional use but lots of cut corners and they feel really inferior to tools like dewalt.

All depends on the budget I guess. Glad yours is going well

            • +1

              @slipperypete:

I mean I paid $38 for the saw so can't complain.

Same. Wasn't planning on getting one but for the price has been handy. I have a big AEG 240v but its a PITA to pull out for the little odd job.

I have seen plenty of people saying the supplied blade is crap and it cuts much better with a proper blade.

I know what you mean about the feel. I have some fatmax tools as well, a step up from the Ozito but not the full trade level tools. The recip saw especially is so much better than the PXC equivalent (got my mum the pxc for pruning). That said the brushless PXC would be about the same price as the brushed fatmax i bought.

Grinder, oscillating multitool, orbital sander, leaf blower have all worked well so far. There is no way i would have got them in one of the premium brands. All up probably cost me what one skin would have in some of the other brands.

              • @Duff5000: ha ha. you probably got a heap of these the same time. Crazy prices when they went on sale.

I might go back and try mine again. Maybe was a battery issue or the blade.

  • +1

the price is good, but I will avoid to do business with Blackwood

  • +2

Do note dispatch is after 26 days.

    • +1

If you're lucky…every single time I've ordered things from them I have to follow it up with multiple phone calls. Vowed never to go back.

  • +4

It's Blackwoods, so if the slightest thing goes wrong, you're in for a massive run-around, and then they end up not doing anything about the problem they caused anyway. Avoid them.

    • +2

they still haven't refunded some of my money yet,

    • +1

Oh look, they're refunding without notifying. WHO COULD HAVE PREDICTED IT?

  • +1

    I bought one! Too good

  • +1

    This is a good deal.

I'm into tools and if I was buying my first power tools and was on a limited budget, I'd get this.

  • You don't really need ear protection when using a drill, right? Eg for a 1hr job

    • +2

disagree, tinnitus is permanent and annoying AF and some drills are whiny and abrasive. it doesn't take much dB to do permanent hearing damage

    • Nah.

If you were using the multi tool indoors for more than like two minutes I’d recommend it.

    • +6

      Really depends!
Drilling into pine? You're probably fine without.
Using the hammer function into concrete? Get those earmuffs on!

    • Definitely always have eye protection. A cheap set of plastic safety glasses like steel cap boots. Like wearing Hi-Vis. If I were angle grinding most of the day would definitely have ear protection. Most jobs I see these days seem to be pretty well full compliant on OHS/WHS. [Yeah hammer drilling into concrete or bricks - get those muffs on!]

    • There's volume vs hearing damage charts. The volume will depend on more than just the drill, some materials will make the sound a lot louder.

Typically the louder it is the shorter time you can go without getting hearing loss.

But imo 1h is a long time. If I was drilling one hole I might be lazy but it really doesn't hurt to toss on a pair of $10 earmuffs and safety glasses imo.

  • +1

Great deal, the drill is a step up in quality and power than the lower series. Comes with the sidehandle which I think is essential for auger work.

One of the reasons I'm primarily Dewalt is they seem to have more deep discount deals like this than Mak, Milwuakee etc.

  • -6

Rockwell brushless kit (drill, impact driver, angle grinder, compound mitre saw, Bluetooth speaker, 2x 1.5ah + 4.0ah batteries and charger) $299

  • +1

Really good deal if you’re looking for high quality at good prices.

I’ve used these exact models for years now and both cop a beating everyday but still don’t miss a step.

Although definitely not light and small by any means, so probably not best for the odd job around the house.

  • +1

    ordered one.. thanks

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/490454

I bought this 3 years ago and still havent used them yet lol, I have too many tools :/ Have the dewalt drill from a deal 5 years ago $159.

  • +1

Bought this kit about 5 years ago. Has been very useful for works around the home and small diy projects and has not failed me once. Batteries still are really good and now even powers a dyson v7 i picked up from marketplace =D. From memory it was less than $200 back in the day. Mine came with a bag and is very handy to keep all the extra bits and attachments in it.

    • Was the drill the 3 speed or 2 speed? Havent seen the 996 3 speed in a sub $200 kit but if so you did very well!

Bought this kit about 5 years ago….. From memory it was less than $200 back in the day.

      • +1

Sorry missed that detail, its 2 speed 🙌. Given the inflation and its 3 speed this is a great price imo.

  • Hi all, just checking if anyone noticed that within this bundle, the impact driver is brushless, but the drill is brushed (XRP). Has anyone already bought it can verify this for me?

    • Both are brushless from the model description?

    • +1

The drill is definitely brushless as well. XRP does not mean brushed!

      • Thanks for clarifying that, got the wrong idea online else where.

  • Anyone order it. Dispatch day back 30 now

    • +2

My order was cancelled about a week ago, without any notification.
I only found out because I saw the money returned to my credit card.

      @bonbon was spot on!
I will blackban Blackwoods from now on.

      • +3

Shit, i just checked my order, it shows cancelled and i have not yet received any refunds. Blackwood sucks

      • +1

and we have 76 upvotes, :(

      • +1

Lucky if you have received full amount in return, mine still less than original amount

  • -1

first glance I'm seeing unique (by design) battery packs that won't fit any other brand - and over time, may no longer fit newer models

that's how you generate repeat sales folx - built-in obsolescence !

I bought a neato drill kit in France - brought it back to Oz - couple years later the battery pack was dead - could I get a new battery pack for it in Oz ? - not on your nelly !

  • +1

    I got a Cancel Email, I ordered 30.Mar

    They kidding me😂
Did they play interest with their customers' money?

    • +1

      Hi
Sorry for this inconvenience. The item was reduced in price last month as it was No Longer available and we we were getting rid of all stock around Australia. The amount of orders far out weighed the stock available. It was only when we received the notification last week that we knew that we still had orders in our system.

That was their email to me.

  • +1

Just found out mine is cancelled. Ordered on the 27th March. No email, still haven't received my refund yet either.

  • Just checked mine, still shows open order, ordered on 26/3, so fingers crossed!

  • No email but there is a pending refund in my bank account.

  • +1

I haven't received my order yet, and it's already been 31 days. I called Blackwood, but they informed me that they still don't have any stock and that I need to continue waiting. It's a bit frustrating, to be honest.

  • Refunded. No notification.
