I just want uno that plays like real uno.

    • +1

      arduino uno will play itself

hmm that mega kit is tempting, comes with plug pack and lots of stuff for $59 hmmmm. my interest would fade before I needed to buy anything else for it.

  • Grat for making a SpeedDuino.

What's the most awesome thing someone could do with the ultimate kit?

    • There's quite a bit in that kit and the 2560 is a very capable traditional micro-controller. It's probably not well suited to IoT applications (Or at least, there are better choices), but anything requiring electronic control of physical things it will excel at. You'd need a few more parts than the kit, but you can even use the 2560 as an ECU for a car.

    • Learn how to use Arduinos.

That said I bought two kits a while back on sale for the various parts to have stuff on hand.

Is there any reason to get this over the much cheaper ones on Aliexpress? I see UNO R3 clones for less than $5 USD shipped

    • So many choices so little time

      does not choose anything

    • +1

      Faster delivery

    • Warranty, shipping, convenience

    • the big kit comes with AU power pack, not sure if the ali has AU, US or EU power pack.

esp32 better for most projects and around the same price ;)

    • +1

It's better for IoT type projects, I'd take the 2560 over it for general controls type projects though.

    • Looking at an esp32 for a dyi smart lights project.

Did you buy from Amazon or Ali Express?

      • +1

Amazon is cheap, AliExpress is even cheaper

        The one I use:
DIGISHUO ESP-WROOM-32 ESP32 ESP-32S Development Board 2.4GHz Dual-Mode WiFi + Bluetooth Dual Cores Microcontroller Processor Integrated with Antenna RF AMP Filter AP STA for Arduino IDE https://amzn.asia/d/i60Ed1s

Also if it's smart lights - wled is insanely good, I can't recommend it more.

Is there a guide you read? Or any thing you look for in buying led strips ? Such a large number of options when you search on Amazon / AliExpress

          • +1

@PaPaGeorGeo: ws2812b's are the best addressable strips you can get imo, 5v, pretty bright and works very easily plug and play with wled. they don't really have them on amazon but there's a few au sellers on ebay or aliexpress they are pretty cheap. make sure to check the density, the low density (25-40led/m) wont look super good, 60 and up are nice. you can always pm I'm happy to help if you need more guidance :)

….or much cheaper. ESP32 is just much better….

    • +1

This is a decent collection of parts, but I know what you mean. For many of my projects, frankly an ESP8266 like a wemos d1 mini for less than $4 delivered does the job perfectly via esphome.

I'm wary of those short blue USB cables. Probably unrelated to these, but I've had no end of trouble with a batch that I received on some cheap Arduino clones. If you're experiencing USB disconnects, programming issues, or serial comms issues then try a different cable.

    • Thank you, i'll keep that in mind when playing with it, should it not behave., which might be me or the blue cable. 👍

I went with the $A59 version, which looking at the US site was sold out at $US55. (While Walmart lists it as $US99) so price looks good

  • How do you shuffle a PCB?

    • +1

      Simple really, rand()

  • I am unable to get the given price.. Is that the same for others?

  • How do you get ELEGOO MEGA2560 R3 Development Board Microcontroller ATmega2560 ATMEGA16U2 with USB Cable Compatible with Arduino IDE(amazon.com.au)
to $18, its appear as $21

    • I think the deal may have expired (or partially expired now) :)

  • any include a 433mhz transmitter?
