  • how much trade in for an s20? i hate that they make you go through hoops to find out trade value

    • +4

Just install the Samsung TradeUp app. Choose your answers, and you'll know within 1min.
      Just don't click to continue/commit.

      • +3

the tradeup app won't go past the address for me. Can't select the address.

        • Yes, same for me

      • That doesnt work. There isnt an option to resest on my s21fe.

      • On the tradeup website https://www.samsung.com/au/tradeup/ what is the difference between "Galaxy S23 online exclusive 128GB" and "Galaxy S23 8GB + 128GB" ?

    • +3

I had a look online n saw $155? Was looking at upgrading my mum's S20 also but this is a bit silly…

    • HN also uses asurion, so probably same value (scroll down and type in your phone model): https://www.harveynorman.com.au/trade-in

  • Any ideas about how much tradein iphone 12 mini 256gb?

    • Answered buy @SSJX above

    • Up to $285

  • +12

S22 ultra up to $555. What a joke

    • I think the joke is Samsung. A month into release and they are giving discounts. Obviously their used products resales will plummet.

Heck, they were even giving galaxy buds for free or something with the S23 release.

Apple holds value due to not doing that

      • Gotta survive somehow !

    • How do I get it for $555?

    • S22 ultra at jb is valued at 750 last I checked

  • +13

So tempting, but the note 10 plus trades in for (profanity) all, and is still going strong

    • +2

Same boat here, a whopping $90 for my 3.5 year old phone that is still pretty good.

    • +1

My Note 8 just recently died that I used as a spare around the house. Literally no notable difference to my S22 in speed or quality of life just browsing and YouTube (a potato could run those). Had more features (SD slot, pen). This upgrade culture is stupid. Old ass phones are fine, dont need a yearly CPU upgrade to run basic apps on a tiny screen. Or 16 9000MP cameras to take a picture.

      • I still have Note8 and have S21. The difference is huge to me.

  • +4

Can also contact support to get 10% loyalty discount and $100 switch from apple to samsung voucher. Not as good as the deal a couple weeks ago though as you could get it for $100 cheaper after all these discounts + $250 instant e-voucher to use on accessories.

    • was this not the preorder deal?

      • +3

Nah it was from this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13556249/redir which Samsung offered an additional $300 bonus trade in on top of the $500 bonus trade in as well as a $250 e-voucher to use. Was for the s23 Ultra only, however.

        • +3

You would have thought Samsung would have questioned giving both a loyalty voucher plus a voucher from switching from Apple to Samsung to the person….

    • is it just as simple as contacting the customer support to request both discount vouchers? also 10% off the rrp or…?

      • +7

Yes, just use the chat support. For the 10% loyalty discount I said something along the lines of "Hi there, I'm looking to upgrade my current samsung phone to one of the newer models and I was wondering if you had a discount for someone like me?". The agent then provided me a code to use within 2 weeks. Sometimes you may get a bad agent though and have to retry with another agent. For the $100 switch voucher I said something similar like: "Hi there, I currently have an iPhone and am looking to get a samsung. I'm looking at one of the new S23 models and was wondering if you had a discount for someone like me." Once again, you may have mixed results and have to try with a few different agents to get offered the code.

In that deal (I got an S23 Ultra), my price was calculated by: (1949-800-1)*0.9-100-50= $883.20 (Where $1949 was the price for the 256GB S23 Ultra, $800 was the trade in bonus and $1 was my trade in value). You just need to adjust those values to calculate your potential price with all the discounts applied.

        • +1

Nice deal. I didnt know about the switching or loyalty vouchers and missed out on the extra discount

        • +1

Actually just remembered for the loyalty bonus you need to email [email protected] and ask for a loyalty discount. You also need to let them know that your trading your phone in for the voucher to work with this trade in deal.

          • @Charlieeee: Do they response quick? Also, the 10% loyalty has any expiry?

            • +1

@cloudie9: I emailed them on a work day and they responded within 20 minutes. The loyalty voucher has a 30 day expiry.

        • Do these vouchers all stack with tradein?

          • @Meovel: Yes, they did for me and a lot of other users in a previous trade-in deal a few weeks ago.

        • how did you get $800 trade in bonus?> i cant understand this….

          $500+ $200 = $700????

          • +1

@mady123: That was a previous deal a couple weeks ago. No longer available.

        • No luck, tried it, they highlight the $200 off promo, then highlight $50 newsletter, then they say this:

"As much as I like fulfilling your request, I’m afraid that is not possible. Only the $50.00 code was available on our end."

          • @jes: Yeap, tried as well. I think they're no longer giving out loyalty code.

      • is there anyone keen to swap $100 discount code with 10% off code?> i have one spare 10% off code.

  • +1

They charge $60 for not return or in time

    • +1

      Just $60?
Do they also charge the trade in bonus etc

    • yeah im also keen to understand if they charge the trade in bonus

    • They authorise full payment for trade in on your card to proceed.

  • Anyone know if trade in value is affected if your phone had been serviced under warranty?

    • How would they find out

  • +6

    The $50 newsletter isn't real. I'm convinced.

    • +1

It is, additionally you can re-enter your email address and it will show your code, even if you didn't receive it via email such as in my case.

  • I get $30 less through the app than JB, but even if i wanted to go this route. I cant complete the sign up because it wont let me select my address with the drop down boxes. Even if i try entering my address manually a drop down box appears to try to auto finish the city and state and wont let me proceed.

  • I don’t get it, my iphone 11 pro is only worth $150 trade in value, how do I get $500?

    • Older phones are better than newer ones.

  • I did this previously and the company that takes your old phone (it's not samsung) tried to claim my phone was different to the one I sent and charged back to a lesser value. Only had it corrected when I pressed Samsung (multiple times).

  • Not good trade in value as Jb Hifi.

  • Flip3 256GB Asurion is $260, JBs Squaretrade is $320. I guess I have to act tonight.

    • 128GB is $210..

      • Kind of regretted paying $100 more for 256GB as it's now just $50 more.

  • Stupid question but can I just buy it for 699 and keep my old phone? My s21 is ineligible for some reason.

    • +1

Your trade in value needs to be at least $1 to get the bonus. Is your s21 ineligible due to you listing defects in the trade in app? If so and you don't plan to actually send in your phone, you could just redo the trade in process and change some of the selections to get a $1 value of the phone. Then you could use that to get the bonus value. Note that if you don't send it in you will get charged a $30 late return fee, however.

      • How can you redo the trade in process? It keeps jumping in to 'ineligible' and there is no way for me to reset the grading.

        Im using S20+ 5G btw.

        • Uninstall the app and reinstall

          • @U30004: Nope, doesnt work.

It gets back to the prompt of asking which device type to redeem then after clicking "this is the phone" it jumps onto the "your device is ineligible"

              • @clanton: Online apparently only allows you to find out the value but doesn't give you the trade ID to be used on the purchase.

When you try to make a purchase and select the intention of a trade, it will then ask to download the app.

                • +2

@meong: fyi, apparently the above issue occurred because i was overseas. Once i returned to Australia, the trade up app works again.

    • Not sure. The T&C says theyll charge your card for the bonus value if you dont do the return

      • +1

Nah they don't take back the bonus value if you don't return it. Only the trade in value and late return fee.

        • +1

          wow so only $31?

          • +1

@DDest: Yes if your trade in value is low. Not sure what the threshold is but if your trade in value is higher and you don't return it they charge $60. That's why I purposely said my phone was defective (even though it isn't), to reduce the trade in value to $1 so I would only have to pay $31. I then traded in my phone elsewhere (Mobile monster) as they offered double.

  • +1

Sorry, due to an error, trade-in service is unavailable at the moment

    • Yep. Same here & last time a deal was on - same thing, so I gave up

    • Had the same thing. Turns out what seemed like"1" in the code was actually the capital letter "i".

      • But I copied and paste?

  • My s21 ultra was 350 return, was there meant to be a bonus on top of that or was i ineligible.

    • +1

The bonus value will be applied in addition to your trade in value when you add your trade in code at the checkout

  • +4

Trade in is via Asurion… NEVER AGAIN!

    • +1

      why?

      • +2

Very dodgy, you should've known. Now they will deduct the value of the device straight away and will only refund the amount to you once they get the device as prescribed conditions.

        • +4

Lots of stories on internet where asurion just decline the tradeins saying device conditions is not as reported, then charge admin fee on top of it, even though the devices sent are in perfect condition.
Too many headaches dealing with asurion.

          • +1

@OzBestDeal: Yea they run the program like Mafia extortion. That's why I've sworn off Samsung products mainly due to last asurion experience. Coming from a guy who has bought almost every phone until s22 ultra

            • @Iceinvein: The language used in the terms and conditions of Asurion reminds me of Marlon Brando's famous line, "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse."

Unfortunately, my recent experience with Asurion was quite negative. Despite not having completed the transaction and with the item still in my cart, they deducted the payment from my account as soon as I entered the trade ID on the cart. This experience has left me considering purchasing a Pixel instead of a Samsung purely because of this negative experience with Asurion.

Considering they've deducted the funds from my account. Would anyone know how they handle refunds in such a situation because I don't want to proceed with the transaction?

              • @WarChief: When you return you phone and it is checked ok they will refund you the security holding fund.

They use to charge this after 7 / 14 days of non return but I think they change there process. Guess too much stingy people not returning their phone. Honestly if I were them I will do the same thing.

      • +1

I sent mine in and for 2 months they kept telling me it's being assessed and then out of the blue they told me I sent them an empty box so they refused to refund the holding deposit and were gonna charge me a late fee.

A week later they sent me an email saying apologies it looks like your package was tampered with and we will refund your deposit.

There's also a lot of complaints on productreview

S23 Ultra for $850 is very tempting.. (with $350 S21 Ultra trade in)..

    • How?

      • am I reading it wrong?

        You can get:
        • A S23 Ultra for $1199 less your trade in value

        = $1200 - $350 = $850?

        • +3

Yes that's correct 1749-500-350-50 = $849. You can also get it further discounted if you have the patience to contact samsung support for a 10% loyalty voucher and a s$100 swap from apple to samsung voucher.

If you were to get these you could get it for:

          (1749-500-350)*0.9-100-50= $659.1

          • @Charlieeee: Hei how do we get the "swap from apple to samsung voucher"? Is it through the samsung customer support?

            • +4

@EssendonUser: That one you get through the chat support. I said "I currently own an iphone and am looking to upgrade to one of the new galaxy models. Is there any discounts for someone like me?" I had no luck with the first agent I spoke to as they said they couldn't offer any discounts but I tried with a different agent and they offered the $100 discount. So you may need to go through a few different agents to get it.

          • @Charlieeee: what would happen if I don't send the old mobile? Would I get charged for the trade-in value after a certain time?

            • +2

@sohomel: When you place your order Asurion put a pending charge on your card equal to your trade in value. If you send your device in they drop it off. If you don't end up sending your phone in they settle that charge and will additionally charge a $30/$60 late return fee.

        • +1

just be aware that you s21 ultra worth $350 is of 12GB RAM version and the one you have calculated here i.e. 256GB storage version of S23 Ultra is only 8GB RAM. So, if you want similar 12GB ram, then should go with 512GB storage version.

  • Just went through trade in process and at checkout there is no bonus. No email received either. How do you get the bonus?
