They play those on the plane? I've flown Qantas heaps and never noticed. You guys have too much time on your hands.

Upon landing, your laser-like focus should be solely on which passengers you can tip-over in order to grab your bags and get off the plane first.

The extra four minutes at your destination airport is well-worth any criticism from haters.

Lots of opportunities to sit though yet another welcome to country here

Can anyone explain where this came from? It was like one day it wasn't a thing then the next it was absolutely everywhere?
It all very cultish like behaviour…

      • +1

Oh it is… Basically the higher ups telling you what you have to say before starting a meeting or presentation, etc.

Really, really feels like the little scripts we had to tell before each class in the school - but then it was a socialist/eastern-block country. Never imagined that this will happen in a "free" country.

And then you got the downvoters. Cultish indeed!

      • +1

        Woke cult.

I use it as an opportunity to have a think about the origins/history of this country instead of dismissing it as nothing. It's good to take a leaf out of NZ's book and lean into its aboriginal past

        • +1

Fair enough, but do you do it multiple times a day? It kind of diminishes the value (for me at least).

          • +1

@D3HUN: I don't, are you on multiple flights per day? Then I can imagine it getting old fast. But you'd be the outlier there surely

            • +1

@devpian: Nah, but I attend multiple meetings every day when people has to read the Acknowledgment to the country before starting anything. Gets old pretty fast…

        • It's good to take a leaf out of NZ's book

          Is it?
That country is going to shit why would you want to emulate that?

I'm not sure how Mel-Syd $139 is any sort of "sale". Sound expensive to me.

    • for Qantas yes, its normally ~$200 mark
but for jetstar, its around ~$110

I do agree that its not "attractive" discount

    • In comparison to their recent prices, it is. But my search didn't find this "sale" bringing any new cheap seats online in June at least. It just brought the very few seats left at $149 down to $139.

  • +12

SYD-PER from $309 one way as a sale price. Tell em his dreaming.

    • +3

$199 is a sale price. $309 is just buying Joycee another ivory back scratcher

    • Yep, pre-2020 it was $299 return on sale. This is not a good price.

  • +7

These days should neg for being Qantas.

    • Same as Virgin, used to be a full mainline International carrier and now its "lite"/promotional fares dont include baggage. Wondering if its the same category as Jetstar, since their A320s are directly out of Tiger and have horrible legroom and the most basic seats.

    What a joke
    Sydney to Adelaide $179
But Adelaide to Sydney is $280
    Making round trip $400++
I don’t see the difference by lowering outbound and increasing inbound price

    • supply and demand, more people fly into Sydney then go to ADL

      • Wait, you say they fly into Sydney then go to Adelaide? That makes no sense. Surely it would be more expensive to do that.

        • +1

Pro tip: whenever you read someone saying 'this then that' it almost always means 'this than that'

  • In Europe, you have to book checked luggage and even carry on with these cheap airlines. It's ridiculous.

  • +3

personally, I don’t trust this company at all now.

    • Good, go fly Virgin, Rex or Bonza

      • +1

Good, go fly Virgin, Rex or Bonza

        Competition sure is good…

  • All the people hating on Qantas. Look it might not be the best but the experience is night and day difference between Bonza, Jetstar, Rex and Virgin…

    • +2

Hard disagree, been househunting for the last 3-4 months and have flown the Sydney-Melbourne route almost every other weekend.
Rex is by far the superior airline for that route for me. Only one I haven't done isn Bonza since they don't fly that route.

      Least amount of Cancellations/delays
Anecdotal, but only Qantas managed to lose my luggage for half a day at Sydney airport, didn't even get the Qantas PJs as a sorry. At least they delivered it home instead of asking me to come pick it up.
In Flight service on par with Qantas (although Qantas did start free wifi on planes recently). For Virgin, you have to pay for food.
Prices cheaper or in line with Virgin/Jetstar
Qantas Terminal in Melbourne is trash, literally a single food option. Sydney ain't much better. But tbh Sydney/Melbourne domestic is pretty bad overall.

      • +3

Melbourne airport in general is trash, especially domestic (T4) which is very badly designed. It takes 10-15mins to walk to the gates, costs $4 to use a luggage trolley, food choices are very limited. When you exit T4 there's a sign saying to go right for Uber, but when you get there they tell you to go to T2 for pickups. Then you spend another 12mins walking there so the Uber will leave because you took so long, and then Uber will fine you $10 for keeping them waiting. All the security/xray staff in T4 have got a chip on their shoulder, seems like they really hate their job and take it out on the customers

        • +3

The whole Melbourne airport is a joke. It really should be demolished and rebuilt.

          • @charliechao: If you guys are hating on Tullamarine then you aint been to Perth Airport in a while. Total disaster and you have to carry a second mortgage with you to pay for anything especially parking which BTW they advertise as secure parking yet cars are broken into daily.

    • +5

Hard disagree - had fantastic experience travelling with Rex between Brisbane and Melbourne (Tullamarine). Always on-time, friendly staff, comfy seats, and everything included. They are now my preferred domestic carrier above both Qantas/Jetstar and Virgin.

      • +3

It would be great if more people could read this and try out another airline other than QF/VA etc. We desperately need more competition in Australia right now.

        • +2

For some reason, one person thinks that competition is bad.

    • +2

I agree with you here, the service is so much better

      • -2

Especially if you are WP/P1, the personal touches such as the J class wines while sitting in Row 4 is a big big big big plus.
