@bargainatoraah: If you do some googling (there's lots of subreddit posts discussing these things) it'll usually indicate a difference of 3.5 vs 5hrs approx

  • What's a recomended model if I want it to play 3DS games too?

    • You're starting to push the price right up for 3ds capability

      • That's not overly an issue, as long as it is not ridiculous

        • The t618 machines Impoze mentions further down are decent (although I don't think the 353v has the t618), and you're starting to look at $200+ there. Retroid also have a clam shell they've just released, and they're shipping preorders now. That's about $260 odd all up.

Next step up, and better compatibility, are the Ayn Odin machines. I think the pro model is better than the Lite for 3ds. But you're starting to push higher than $400 in this range.

        • +1

The best way to play 3DS is on the 'new' 3DS XL with homebrew.

If you want something that can do a bit of everything and money isn't a concern, then you might as well just go a steam deck.

          • @Budju: yeah I've got a homebrew og 3DS. I guess I was also going for one fo these for the ability to also play on my TV as well. Might actually go either steam deck of the Win600 at this point so I can also play steam games. Wanna mod stardew valley and play that with the missus.

            • -1

@ONEMariachi: The nice thing about emulation is you can make the resolution scaling really high. 3DS games that were made to run in 480p or whatever then run at 1440p and look amazing. The only thing is you have to split screen it because the 3DS has two screens.

              • @Budju: Yeah That's fair. I think most of the games I want to play used the second screen more as a glorified stats/menu screen. So swapping screens with a shortcut button is fne for my usage.

    • +1

A New 2DS XL or New 3DS XL (homebrew capable).

      Steam deck at minimum.

      • My new 3DS XL with every single 3DS game on homebrew works really well for the 3DS titles :)

  • Noob q. Some examples of fun games you can play on this?

    • +2

Frogger, Qbert, B.C’s Quest for Tires.

    • +1

Tetris, mario, metal slugn street fighter

  • How does this compare with the Miyoo Mini?

    • +1

      More available, slightly bigger

      Similar performance

      • -1

Already got the Miiyoo so availability doesn't matter.
I'm tempted to buy this one just because

        • Gotta collect them all

        • +3

RG35xx is cheaper, has a better screen, is bigger in size and thus more comfortable for bigger hands, has a micro HDMI port (if you want to play on TV), has GarlicOS, which is not as polished as Onion OS (but is under constant updates), and is technically more powerful (although you'd have to wait to see how the Batocera OS develops).

If you've got a Miyoo mini, there's no point in getting an RG35xx… you're better off getting a more powerful handheld in horizontal form factor for more demanding games (i.e. new RG353PS or new clamshell Miyoo are coming out on the horizon; but there will always be newer more powerful models). At the end of the year, there will be a wifi version of RG35xx reportedly coming out, so these current variants might end up being cheaper.
But if you got spare change, you can buy one and compare, then maybe gift the one you like less to friend/family.

    • +2

Honestly, you're better off googling this. There's so many Reddit posts and youtube review comparisons debating the pros/cons.
The basic summary though, is they're very similar… so just get the cheaper and more available option.
If you've got bigger hands the RG35xx is a little bit more comfortable, but it's not as pocketable. If you care about potentially using Wifi (Primarily for retro achievements) then get the Miyoo Mini.
However I highly doubt you'll find a Miyoo Mini Plus at the same price as this RG35xx for a while…

  • No brainer at this price point!!

  • Can this run nDS roms? I haven't been able to confirm this detail

    • +1

Unfortunately it's not quite powerful enough for DS games, even with GarlicOS. I recommend the more high end Anbernic consoles like the RG353V with more powerful hardware and even a touchscreen that some DS games need.

      • What about the rg503?
I'm on the fence between 3 options, steamdeck, keshi+my phone, or something like the rg305 that should support bt (to pair multiple controllers and/or headset), has hdmi out, and wifi5+ for moonlight

        • Checking YouTube videos it seems the RG503 handles DS games pretty well and has the same CPU as the RG353V.

  • In terms of shipping, does it make any difference/advantage to buy directly from Anbernic? There is an option for "ship from Australia" but not sure how true that is for $88.76 after PayPal's conversion rate: 1 AUD = 0.63083 USD
    https://anbernic.com/products/rg35xx
    Thanks!

    • +1

Shipping is ~$22 from Anbernic when I tried their website.
One benefit is you're more likely to get the newer model with a better battery 2600mah? However it's not that expensive to find a higher capacity battery on Aliexpress and replace it yourself. Worth the gamble imo.

From what I've read, keep your expectations low re: the warranty side of things for these cheap Chinese made goods even if it's directly from Anbernic. The most hassle free way to get refunds is Amazon if you have issues, but it's priced at $130… a pretty steep difference.

  • Yep another noob question. There's one game I want to play on a device like this.

    Daytona USA.

I think it was a Sega Saturn game (as well as classic arcade). Would that work on a device like this?

Also, is there a handheld that plays ps2 games, thinking along the lines of gran Turismo

    • PSP GT, ps2 GT3/4 work on retroid pocket 3+ which would also be ok for RG353V from the other deal

It would also run Saturn fine

      https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vf7SIS7ecWa_J301h0mb…

      • Hahahaha well there goes my free time. Thank you so much

      • Your first sentence there isn't very clear, but the rg353v isn't running PS2. It's less powerful than the 3+.

  • Bought 1. Hope its good. Let's we how long deliver is!

  • I was reading over on the Reddit that some experience a fuzzy screen when they oc, does anyone know if it's a widespread issue?

    • +1

      I never experienced this

  • -1

I don't need this at all given the PS Vitas, PSPs and 3DS I have available to emulate this. So of course I bought one!

Looks like onion OS is a really nice update on these which I'll try out.

    • GarlicOS for the RG35XX. OnionOS in for the Miyoo Mini's

  • Not sure why but bought one

  • +1

for anyone looking for the Miyoo Mini, there's a listing on Temu, and you can use the new user 30% code

    • How reliable are Temu sellers though?

      • have had a few Temu orders already, and their live chat is pretty easy going

I'd consider it if I didn't already order this

    • Link?

Bit off topic but couple of weeks ago I got one of these arcade consoles from Jaycar ($55 which I thought was ok since I have a spare Pi3 sitting here, though sure controls aren't that great)

    Anyway, back to my question…
I've already got garlic os and tiny best set sitting here in anticipation for the handhelds arrival.

Would I be able to use the ROMs in TBS on the console? Instructions say to run Retropie but have seen batocera recommended also so be either of those. (Yes it's still sitting in the box 😬)
I'm guessing the format should be pretty common between all of these OSes/emulators?

    • +1

      yes, it's the same roms

Can't go wrong with retropie or batocera, just depends on which you prefer.

      https://www.electromaker.io/blog/article/retropie-vs-recalbo…

    • Thanks for going off topic, now that I know this exists, I'm after one instead of building my own (the arcade control panel itself - I note a Pi and additional setup is required).

Mind sharing how you got it for $65? Limited time sale? Second-hand? It currently advertises (online) for $99.95.

      • +1

Yeh eventually I'll build a cabinet for it if it's any good. Bought new from Jaycar. I'm in WA but visit your local store or ring around stores with stock and check the price. Often varies from store to store despite what it says online, but unfortunately they won't match against their other stores.

It was advertised at $99 online but came up at $65 in-store and had a $10 off voucher to bring it down to $55.

      • Might be worth checking your local store stock now if you're still looking for one of these. They've got a sale on at the moment, though not sure if these are included.

  • After watching some really postive reviews I just made the purchase. Thank you

  • Bugger. Just saw on YunExpress tracking that last mile courier is Aramex…
Hope it lands in WA, not the east otherwise that's another 2 to 3 weeks wait :(

  • Ordered over the weekend and the order is still "processing". How long does it take before they ship it?

    • It could be slow because of the 5 day China holiday which ended on 3 May. Probably a bulk of backlog to get through.

    • just received auspost update, in AU facility transit.

      ETA Monday

      • Better than Aramex… Mines still at "Departed from AIRPORT of Origin" from yesterday, eagerly awaiting to see which side of the country it arrives at.

        • Mine landed it Sydney.

          • @HomeAlone: YunExpress/Aramex or Auspost?

            • +1

              @bamzero: YunExpress/Aramex

              • @HomeAlone: Customs clearance completed in Perth, hopefully be in my hands before too long…

I just noticed last mile is actually by PFL, not Aramex. Has both names listed on Yunexpress tracking.
Still normally at least 2 weeks east to west with them but first time I've had anything local so we'll see.

      • you ordered on 29 Apr I assume? Mine still in Dongguan for some reason.

        • yeah

          • @impoze: Me too. Such a random delivery process.

  • hey, delivered today, that was fast

gonna add the tiny best set now

    • Saturday delivery? Nice

      • I'm impressed by it. Put garlicOS on it, runs everything great. PS1 games are 60fps.

        Donpachi runs nice

All neo geo like Garou works perfect

the one thing that bugs me though is getting the screen right. The default is OK, but if you set it to interger scale and keep aspect ratio on - it looks weird and wrong. Usually I'd want integer scale so I'm not sure what's going on.

  • I have some concerns it has not shipped yet!

    • +1

My Geekbuying orders have taken a while to ship in the past, some between 1 to 2 weeks so I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. I'm sure it will ship soon.
I was actually surprised when it shipped next day this time to be honest.

      • +1

Thanks for the heads up. I reached out to their support and they reckon it should get shipped today.

        • Ordered 29/4, only just got email today saying it has shipped :-(.

          • @opposablethumbs: That is bloody slow…sorry to hear that.

          • @opposablethumbs: Judging from other comments shouldn't take too long now that it's shipped at least. Sure hope the ETA on my PFL tracking is wrong otherwise you'll probably still receive before me.. cleared customs and has been picked up by PFL today but saying delivery ETA is between 19th and 23rd, from Perth to Perth!

            • @bamzero: Quick q - my PFL tracking said "Your parcel has been picked up" in PER yesterday - i know im being a bit impatient but how long was it from when pfl picked up the parcel to when it go to your door? no word of it being onboard for delivery yet - even then i know that doesn't ensure delivery on the day

              • @smv94: Wasn't too bad in the end. 2 days after.

Not sure where it went after being picked up, but next three scans all occurred within about 4 hours in the morning.

In Transit - Your parcel has arrived at PER depot
Onboard - Our driver has your parcel onboard for delivery
Delivered - Your parcel has been left at a safe place (ATL)

They pass it off to their other company Freightster who use contractor drivers like Amazon Flex, but at least they deliver on Sat/Sun too.

          • @opposablethumbs: Finally delivered today, after close to a month :-(.

Had a quick look/play and seems like a good unit so far with some nostalgic arcade games from my childhood, so maybe worth the wait.

2600mAh on the back sticker label.

Now to put the screen protector on, get a reliable micro SD card into it and try out Garlic OS/customisations suggested by others.

  • +4

received it today, flashed GarlicOS straight away and spent some time configuring the core presets

loving the size & nostalgic feel

    • Does your Geekbuying unit comes with 2600mah or 2100mah battery?

      • +3

says 2600mah on the back sticker label

        • Thanks. That is good to hear.

  • Got mine today, the things won't turned on, but won't charge via the USB-C port, using a charger or any USB-C cable won't charge. Dodgy.

    • Is the microSD card inserted?

      • Yes, a microSD card is inserted, a bit of googling, seem like a common issue.

      • Ok, I got another USB-C Cable, and plug it in, it seems to be charging now. I'm freaking out…so the cable that came with the unit is faulty.

        • Phew that's a relief. I guess I'll find out when mine arrives too.

          • @Clear: First impression is not good, but once I got it to charge and power it on, the screen looks nice, and all the implementation is so easy to use, playing retro game is so much easier. I like it so far :).

            • @kml22: My two units had sufficient charge
Didn't even try the stock cable

        • The stock cable is complete garbage. Mine doesn't fit properly and if you literally touch it, it stops charging. Bin it.

A normal USB C charger works great

          • @Odin: They must get their cables from the same place they get their SD cards then by the sounds of it? :D

    • Can you please confirm which delivery partner was used? Thanks!

      • mine came via auspost

        • Thanks mate, must be variable as mine didn't… unless a different local tracking number is used which wouldnt make sense..

          Anyone else?

          • @Vampyr: Yunexpress/PFL.

If you're tracking number starts with YT can track directly here
You should then be able to see your last mile courier tracking number in the green bar at the top. If it starts with NEX it's PFL and don't expect it any time soon though looks like could also end up with Aramex :/

(edit: Actually, my PFL leg is now onboard for delivery, hopefully comes today as being onboard doesn't necessarily mean it will be delivered)

  • HELP!!!

So my delivery failed and it looks like they may have stuffed up the delivery address (it was correct on my end).

Does anyone know the local delivery partner in Aus that they use?

The tracking number didn't show up at my local Australia Post branch.

I need to get on to them before it gets sent back to China!

Any help would be much appreciated!!

EDIT: Saw in a post above that a partner was Aramex.. who's website didn't recognise the tracking number..

    • Hey what's your order number? There's two couriers involved so customer service will take a look.

    • My delivery also failed. I didnt know that Aramex cant deliver to Parcel Lockers. Every other website that i bought from has no issues.

I had to call them to give an alternate address.

    • Not sure if you'd get notified of my post above, but if the last mile tracking number starts with NEX it's PFL not Aramex.

Unfortunately I see plenty of complaints about being undeliverable due to incorrect address, and they've gone to depot to collect themselves. Package handed to them, correct address on the label… hopefully you get your hands on it soon.

  • Got mine today, haven't tested it yet though.

    • Mine arrived today too, chucked it straight on charge and getting GarlicOS and TBSG on an SD card as I type.

      • Mine arrived with full charge. It's perfect so far. I just put on the screen protector. Right behind you on GarlicOS!!

        • The auto save/load states omln GarlicOS is awesome
