I wish that is for the OLED version

I wish it was the 2024 Super Switch.

I wish it's only 200$. Way overpriced for an old (almost 10 years now?) tech gaming console.

        • -1

Plus the Switch was outdated even on release. It was basically a Nvidia Shied tablet from a few years prior with controls stuck on the side.

I miss when Nintendo actually innovated.

          • @PainToad: Being the first company to release a portable and tv dual console was innovating.

They're the only company actually releasing new games. XBOX and PS5 are selling old-tech PCs, and you either can't get them or they have no decent games, just "HD" re-releases of PS3 games.

          • @PainToad: Nintendo's always been innovative but never the most powerful console.

The Wii and 3DS are perfect examples.

I hope this is for the first generation console!

      Nintendo are watching you

    • Mine is and I still want the OLED version, even if it means paying for games. Though apparently Nintendo only thinks they'll sell up to 15 million Switches this year, so maybe better to wait for Switch Pro/2/U anyway https://www.engadget.com/nintendo-expects-to-sell-only-15-mi…

    • Is there much of a market for unpatched switches? I have a spare that is banned, and my primary one doesn't get any use these days.

i wish i have mate(s) working at ebg so he can check choose and sell me low serial units.
i dont mind treat him/her beer after

    • most EB staff are dealing with entitled customers all the time, just going in and being nice to them will probably get you 90% of the way there.

  • RIP skyline

  • I am suprised they actually do refurb them. I thought they would only wipe the outside and put it in a box.

Edit ..OP where does it say what you posted.
    Listing says…
Perform a check on all components
    Inspect all ports and inputs
Refurbish or replace parts to meet our standards
Format the console and restore the system
    Give it a good clean!

Nothing about opening it up and new thermal paste etc.

    • Nothing about opening it up and new thermal paste etc.
i dont think so, they just put up "Refurbish or replace parts to meet our standards" but in reality none happening. if not turn on after the seller/customer go, then probably they just bin it.

They dont refurb crap or check properly.

I bought some consoles from them in the past and nothing was opened up.

In addition they were full of gunk and grime so it wasnt even cleaned.

I would compare them to DK Oldies in regards to not attempting any refurb at all and claiming it as refurb.

  • Replace capacitors? What about the resistors?!

I'm glad they do the thermal paste, mine was pretty crusty.

    • The link doesnt mention all that though… just says basically check ports and clean.

      • My bad I only read the unedited post.

    • Do resistors fail with age though?

      • Typically neither do surface mount capacitors. The larger through hole ones can boil and subsequently leak through time.

  • +1

Not trying to be a dick here - but can OP verify that EBGames do actually (as a matter of course) reapply thermal paste, test capacitors, and deep clean ports etc?

Just seems a little vague on the official website that those things are performed on each console - as PVA already pointed out too.

    • +1

They will do the bare minimum needed to sell. Give it a quick clean then out for sale. Anything else is costing time and money.

      • That was my thoughts too. Seems a little odd that the OP is suggesting otherwise, but would like to know if they have more information.

Edit - just saw mod team has changed the details of the deal.

    • They will not do that at all, Most of that is where it would be going to a 3rd Party Repairer.
The item i doubt will even leave the store, somebody will bring it in the workers will check it out, plug it in make sure everything works based off a check box list if something doesnt look right most likely swap ie. bad controller etc.

A full refurb service opening it up would add another $100++ to the cost.

      • Yeah it would definitely be adding to it for sure. Hopefully OP can provide some clarity.

Edit - nevermind just saw it’s been edited by mod team.

        • Nice that they also changed OPs foul username.

      • yeah this swap thing for EBG is just a marketing they willing to take loss, to get people coming back to their shop and hopefully loyal.

  • About $20 Cheaper on their EBay store.

This is the original RRP, not really a deal at all

    • Agreed, this price is a joke. I bought mine for only $50 more back in 2017..

    • It’s really not.

  • Doesn't the OLED model go on sale ~$400 fairly regularly?

    • Paid $425 last xmas at bigw

      • +1

many here got that oled splatoon for $379

        • Ikr, I got 2 OLEDs for the kids last year in two separate deals $399/407. One would have to be a mad man to pay that much for a used none oled.

You can get used consoles on gumtree/fb marketplace for $170 even lower. Im not sure why you would bother buying what will be the same quality console from eb, for twice the price

    • Only benefit is warranty. But if you can check that it works at someone's place before you pay them I think Gumtree/fb marketplace is the way to go

    • what ? just 170 ?

    • Yeah you are right about price. i've been looking for a while for pre-owned and 170-190 is the common sweet spot. I ended up getting a lite from cashies of all places for $140 so i just cant agree this is a deal at all, seems wayyyy overpriced to me.

      • +1

Plenty on FB marketplace or gumtree.

I scored my OLED Switch used with games which I sold off and the OLED Switch ended up costing $200.

I also picked up a V1 Unpatched Switch with 20 physical games, Pro controller and extra Wireless controller for $580.

  • I paid $315 brand new from Amazon in a lightning sale 5 years ago. Not much of a deal here :)

  • lol you can buy these things new for not much more.

  • +1

Paid $350 with the Harvey Norman Amex deal in 2017 or 2018. This seems really high 5+ years later.
