  • Not bad

Any chance to reduce the price on your eBay store as well?

    • It looks like they come with the keyboard, hence more expensive after the 20%/22% discount coupon.

  • +2

What kind of keyboard and mouse do you get for the additional accessory added for $10?

    • @Calmago Also keen to know.

      • +1

Rep said this on page 2

It’s a keyboard and a mouse. Not a type cover

        • +1

Thanks mate, I'm aware that it's not the type cover. They do have a separate page for the one that includes it.

Question is more of whether it's wireless? Runs on a dongle? Bluetooth? Normal size PC keyboard? Reduced sized with rubber keys?

          • +1

@hououin kyouma: Hopefully the Rep elaborates but I don't think I'd be expecting much for 2 devices for $10

            • +1

@nismo: Yeah, hopefully. Not really expecting much either, but at least it's an informed decision.

    • -1

Good question, is it just a desktop keyboard and mouse, or the actual attachment

    • ORKRON USB Keyboard
      Dell Mouse USB
      Both wired.

  • Hum.
    looking for an impulse buy,

it will be mostly for my daughter when traveling, and for me for like everyday usage (little broswing, little neftlix in bed).

I hesitate between this and the new Google pixel tablet. Yes I know, not the same price however I have a $300 google store coupon and they might reduce the price soon (max for EOTY sales).

Does the surface have some good kids friendly protection case?

    • Probs better to look at some iPad deals posted. This is best for simple work and studies rather than media consumption.

      • +1

Thanks, I'm pro Google and Microsoft and a bit anti Apple,

      • +2

Maybe read his post again? He is considering a google tablet, because he has a $300 coupon to use ….. then you suggested him to buy an iPad?

        • -1

What's your point? If I need to elaborate, I don't think Pixel Tablet is a good value, even if he had the voucher. He can save it for Pixel 8 may be.

Too bad if he doesn't like Apple. I still don't think spending $200 on this is worth it for watching Youtube/Netflix.

          • @aveeno bb: Already have a Pixel 7 Pro, will buy the Pixel 8 pro as well, but looking for a tablet for my kids. I'd prefer to stay on Android (or microsoft eventually).

pixel tablet is too expensive in Australia yes, I don't know why they priced it higher than the Pixel 71 (they are both at $499 in the US). That is why I'm thinking Pixel Tablet won't sell well here, so they'll probably make big offer / discount soon after release.

      • +1

These tablets are fantastic for media consumption. Their screen quality is top-notch and the computery parts are more than capable of streaming Netflix.

However, if it's for kids, I'd be wary - the screens will break, like any touch screen, and they're impossible to replace economically. For kids it's better to get a non-touch laptop.

    • +1

I would think an Android tablet is a bit more user friendly and simpler to use than a Windows tablet.

    • +1

Wouldn't recommend for travel unless there is always powerpoint nearby.
Battery life may vary but would be too optimistic if expecting any more than 2 ~ 3 hours.

    • -3

surface is not for kids. full stop.

      • You left a full stop, but no point.

  • -7

    thanks OP, bought 5

    • +4

      Tired joke is tired.

      • +4

why did you assume it was a joke? I did buy 5…

        • +1

          Mmm hmm.

        • found the person who buys up and sells them for a loss in 6 months.

          Great business.

  • +1

"Can you replace SSD on Microsoft Surface Pro 5? No, you can't! all Surface Pro 5 models come with a soldered SSD. So make sure you purchase a Surface Pro 5 model with the right amount of SSD Storage (128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB)"

    • For the workflows that this machine would be used for, I reckon sticking a good external SSD USB drive on the back for more storage is probably the cheapest/most practical solution.

      • +1

Or even just thorwn in a micro SD card.

  • Killer price but I'm struggling to come up with a use case…

    • +1

      Mobile emulator

  • +1

Where should I buy the keyboard case from?

    • eBay, cash converters, Facebook, gumtree, etc.

  • +3

    Why did I buy this
    Oh well!

  • Cant be charged via USB C. Refurb only makes sense to me when I can charge then with power bank or in my car. Excellent deal otherwise.

  • -1

    Hi Op,
Is the 12 months warranty including the battery? Does it come with charger/adapter?

  • +1

    How isn't this OOS yet

    • +5

We aren't a small operation, so there are ALOT

      • +1

Keyboard and mouse $10- is this surface keyboard or normal one?

      • Thanks @Calmago - bought one with the keyboard and mouse

        • +1

How do you get the version with keyboard and mouse?

Is the keyboard Bluetooth or plug in somehow?

          • +2

@JHoliday: There's an option to add accessories for additional charge. On their homepage, pics of the product listing actually show the original surface keyboard but I'm not too sure if what they're putting in accessories are refurb genuine or just refurb generic keyboards.

@Calmago hopefully OP can answer this.

            • +3

              @nsingh21: It’s a keyboard and a mouse. Not a type cover

              • @Calmago: Wired?

                • @olympicwiz: I can't imagine it would be very good as a $10 add-on. Likely ultra-cheap wired kb and mouse.

      • -3

@Calmago Ummm I thought you said there were a lot? Was going to purchase it after I finished work tonight now it’s OOS?

  • I was actually looking at building a cheap C2Q desktop w/ discete GPU to play some mid-2000s games on XP/Windows 7. This might be a better and cheaper option, though iGPU is probably quite weak?

    • Yes, it's very weak. The problem with these old SPs is that they don't have TB3, meaning you can't connect to an eGPU.

    • This is using a fairly old iGPU, the Intel HD Graphics 620 from 2016 and it's also exclusive to the low-voltage mobile chips.

Modern iGPU's are capable of runing 3d games (for e.g the AMD Ryzen Zen 2 APU's found on the Steam Deck and other mobile hand-helds) but we only got there quite recently. If you're buying a device as old as this it won't run many games.

      • +1

It's worth reading the post…. mid 2000s games - we're talking Civ IV, GTA San Andreaus, Half-life 2 etc. Gforce 5-7 series tops. HD620 should be able to keep up with that kind of demand.

That being said I'd check the title you're wanting to play and the system requirements and see if there's any youtube clips of it running on the 7300u with 8GB ram to get an idea if it'll work.

Oooops… Just saw that these are passively cooled and subject to throttling. So may not be any good for games at all.

  • Bought one too. Impulse buys are strong on this one

  • Great deal - Cheers OP :)

  • the screen (pressure point, etc etc) for using pen is good on this one? maybe will take anime painting/drawin lesson if i get this

  • +1

Recommendations for keyboard pen combo with this ?

  • What's a good app for keeping the battery in a state of 50% charge if you keep this thing permanently plugged in.

It will help prolong the battery for those times you do need it, and even if you never do, it'll help stop the Li-ion pack from eventually swelling and causing catastrophic failure down the track.

    • Sounds like you should know the answer

    • +3

There's a setting in the bios that sets the max battery charge at 50% for this purpose.

      To get to the bios:
In windows: Start menu, select Power (Power button icon) > hold Shift while selecting Restart. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > UEFI Firmware settings.

      • That's awesome, cheers.

  • Would this be good to give to a toddler for their cartoon watching?

    • I am in the same boat but for a 5 year old do let me know too

      • +1

This exact machine is actually my daughter's first "proper" PC when she was 5. It is good for computer literacy education purposes due to the easy convertibility with type cover/pen/touch, but a bad idea if you actually want the kids to use it for their daily activities, such as cartoon watching. iPads are the absolute no.1 choice for that.

    • I wouldn't recommend for toddler.
It's not designed to be tough and durable.
I saw a lot of poeple throw an ipad with rugged rubber case for that purpose.

  • Hey Mate ive been looking for something like this for very light gaming but hoping for 16gm ram.

Any specials for something like this?

  • +9

I swear I signed up to this site to save myself money..

    • +1

Doesn't sound like it was the best choice.
I accidentally cliked a link from another site to find this site a few years ago and spent so much money which I wouldn't have otherwise.

      • correct. probably can have one bedder apartment by now

        • You bought too many avocados through ozbargain then.

  • +3

Hey there OP, the accessories mentions Keyboard+Mouse for an extra $10.
Is this the standard Microsoft Surface Keyboard? If not, then what would we get if we include this $10 add-on?

    • +2

OP has answered this above. Its a standard keyboard & mouse, not the surface type cover.

  • Was tempted, but the i5 7300u is a dual core CPU. I already have an SP6 where the i5 8250u is a quad core chip, so I guess I'm skipping this.

    • +2

what if you buy this deal and sell the sp6 to me same price?

  • @Calmago any chance of a special on 16gb ram surface pro 5?

  • +1

This was an impulsive purchase… yikes

  • +2

    MUST
    RESIST

    POINTLESS

    TABLET

    PURCHASE

  • Great deal. Thanks OP. Ordered one.

  • Thanks OP, been looking for a replacement for my bricked chromebook.

  • Anyone have a good recommendation for a cheap decent laptop that can be used for running machine learning models (ie. has GPU) from these sellers (or from other sellers)?

  • 1 left Gone

    • and now its OOS. Was waiting to see when the stock sells out lol

      • +2

ah finally i can look at ozb again. thank you all who bought… otherwise im 200 poorer by now

        • I got this OOS message when I was on the last step of checking out.

        • otherwise im 200 poorer by now

You'd have less money, but technically you'd be richer because the device is worth more than what they sold it for.

        • Haha. 100% this. I had one sitting in my cart for a hour while I tried to decide if I really needed to buy this or not. Now the decision has been made.

  • +1
