Thanks, just did. Battery health shows 99.5%.

        • Nice!!

    • How did you install windows 11? If you have a guide would appreciate it!

      • +1

First you need a bootable Windows 11 USB flash drive, USB hub, wire keyboard and mouse. You can google "how to install windows 11 on unsupported device", the easiest way is to delete the file "appraiserres.dll" in the sources fold IMO.

To boot from USB flash drive : Press and hold the Volume Down button on your Surface Pro, then press and release the Power button. When you see the Surface logo screen appear, release the Volume Down button.

        • Thanks so much! Will give this a try when I receive it.

  • I received my unit. When booting up, it shows a big red bar with an 'unlocked padlock' icon across the logo screen. What's this about?

    • Jailbreak activated? :p

Its on mine too. I'm guessing its safe to boot up.

      • Yeah I had a quick look into it just now, and it seems to be in 'unsecure boot mode'. I hear that allows booting from external media, which I assume the refurbisher would have done in order to quickly boot and test hundreds of identical units from whichever gov department was ditching them.

        • Yeah you can just turn it off in the UEFI if it bothers you.

    • Me too. And mine has lots of wear and tear scratches on the back as well.

  • Ordered this stylus

  • Ugh just got mine and the top half of the touchscreen isn't working! Basically unusable.

I've already ordered a bunch of accessories including the pen… So disappointing, was excited to finally have one of these. Attempting firmware / OS updates but I'll probably need to return it.

      Howdy

Just send through a email and we should be able to arrange a replacement for you.

      • Thanks!! Email sent

      • I had the same problem with battery health, which is only 32%. I also sent email to ask for replacement. Thanks

        • How do you find out the battery health. I did run the command but not sure which value to look at. Do I look at the at the battery capacity history to calculate the percentage.
          Thanks

      • Just got my replacement, extremely happy with it. Some minor marks on the bottom but otherwise perfect condition with 95% battery after 3 full charge/discharge cycles.

        • @Subada, how long did it take for email response to dispatching a replacement take?

          • @Ruisu: 23 May sent request for replacement

25 May got shipping label, went to auspost to return the package and sent email telling them I'd sent it.

26 May received email saying they'd arranged a replacement and got a tracking notification for package being sent to me.

            29 May replacement arrived

All in all super impressive customer service. Interesting that others are having issues with shipping.

          • @Ruisu: I sent in my queery on Friday afternoon / evening. Got a response Monday and then quick replies for any further questions.

I was very impressed and happy with outcome, I have a replacement on the way.

Auspost issues are obviously beyond their control but I have a tracking no and expect it to arrive in the next week.

      • Hi mate my order number is N77713. I have received a faulty unit with constantly flickering screen and big white light bleed on all corners. Sent an email to support but no response. Can I organise a return please

  • +1

Anyone else's shipping status still not updated after one full week?

    • Same here, idk what's going on at Auspost just "we've got it"
Perhaps @Calmago could check with Auspost and see what's going on

      • +1

It probably means "we've lost it" by now.

    • Yeah, same here.
It changed today to "Delayed – waiting to be processed for delivery"
Could well be "fell off the back of the truck"

    • maybe log query within aus post app/website. usually i get reply in 1 day

    • Same boat here

    • I came to check if anyone else wasn't having the shipping show up

    • My latest status is

      “Most recent update
      Received and ready for processing

      Date & time
      Tue 16 May, 8:49PM”

I note that the scheduled delivery date was between yesterday and Friday so I won’t follow up until it breaches that estimation to avoid the inevitable “it is still on time” response.

      • My status has changed to processed and the scheduled delivery date altered to after Friday.

      • Exactly the same as myself.

      • Update on mine, still waiting. It finally left QLD and has made it to Melbourne. Pity I live in Adelaide…….

    • +1

I'm based in Melbourne. It finally was scanned in Melbourne near the closest sorting facility on Saturday. I checked back on Monday morning, it ended up on other side of town in Sunshine facility. Checked it on Tuesday, it's been sent to place called Bungalow in QLD.

Original eta was 23 May. Now it's 3rd June. Who knows what's going on with the parcel.

Slight hard to believe the tracking info for Aus Post

  • Received mine today and plugged it in as it was flat. Once set up I noticed in Windows that the battery was 0% and wasn't charging. It stayed on while not plugged in though so I let the battery drain which took around 5 minutes. I then plugged it in again and ran the battery tool from an earlier post and my unit's battery health is unfortunately a very poor 19.3%, and died very quickly when unplugged while at "100%" charge. Makes it pretty unusable when it's not plugged in due to how quickly it dies with the poor battery health. Very disappointed

    • +1

There is no way for them to actually check every unit has the so-called 80% battery health before sending them out. They are probably just relying on the consumers to tell them when a unit doesnt and do a return/partial refund.

    • if you want to flip it, let me know

      • You don't want the unit I received, the battery is actually worse than it initially seemed.
Charged it to '100%' yesterday, turned it off as soon as it thought it was fully charged, went to turn it on today and it was flat. Hadnt been used since it was turned off at 100%
Also seems to go flat and turn off even when its plugged in, when there's a low charge.
When fully charged, it will last only a few minutes before turning off when unplugged, even though Windows shows the battery has around 90% left, so the battery is stuffed.

Just pretty disappointed as I was really looking forward to using it and definitely expected better than this when it was stated "All refurb units are tested". I would have been happy even with 50% battery, but my unit is unusable if it can't keep a charge and turns off even when plugged in on a low charge.

Screen also flickers at the screen edges, and the corners of the screen are a darker, yellow sort of colour.
Unit is definitely not fit to be resold.

Emailed about it yesterday and am yet to hear back.

  • Received yesterday, not a scratch on it, its like brand new.

Battery tested at 87%. Very happy with the purchase.

  • Hey @Calmago received yesterday but pretty disappointed … scratches all over the back, scratches on screen not even wiped down and with… 49% battery. Hardly A-grade with 80% minimum battery… Have emailed already awaiting reply from your team. What's the refund process?

    • I had the same problem with battery health, which is only 32%. I sent email and wait for response.

    • +1

      Hi Mate

It's a busy time of year so the CS Team should get to you shortly, but if they can't offer a replacement we will organise a return for a refund. Process is pretty simple with a prepaid return shipping label provided.

  • -1

if anyone is not keen on the unit they received, let me know. Happy to grab one, as long as everything works.

Delivery was expected Fri 19 – Tue 23 May
Looks like this delivery is taking longer than we expected.
If it hasn't arrived by Tuesday 6 June, please contact us so we can investigate.

Seems that this deal is a total lucky dip. First they left it to NSW DoE to wipe the OS, who then duly forked it up. Then they clearly do not check battery life or physical condition relative to the advertised grade.

  • Received mine today, immaculate condition apart from some light colour change on the side of the unit near the volume button (very hard to notice). Had the NSW login but once restarted able to bypass. Battery at 89% and screen seems perfect. Now to find a use for it haha!

Following this thread patiently just incase there are some back in stock…

Mine still hasn't moved from when it was dropped at Australia post last Tuesday

Just adding another quality report to the comments…

Received mine a few days ago. A few very light scratches near the top of the screen, some scuffs on the back. USB-A port has a bit of play but nothing serious. Seems I won the battery lottery - did a few full charge-discharge cycles with a battery report each time. The reports vary between 95-102% of design capacity, and the battery had only 42 cycles on it when I received it. Best possible battery condition one could hope for!

    • Ditto. Only 43 cycles and no noticeable scratches or marks. Wife is very happy with it!

  • +2

Received mine, typing this on it now. Scuffs around the corners, suffered a light drop by the looks. Couple bright spots on the screen, thats usually from being crushed at some point. They are in the left corner so at least not in centre of screen. Battery 92 percent. Can post pics if anyone is interested.

  • Still waiting for my refund after sending back.

  • Hi @Calmago,
Just got my surface pro, condition is excellent but unfortunately when I run https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/batteryinfoview.zip it's showing battery health at 27%?????
I have got all my accessories in the last few days for it and now lost the battery lottery…

    • Hi Mate

As above reach out to the Customer service email and a team member will be able to sort you out.

      • I sent email yesterday. I got return label today and also get replacement as requested. Thanks for amazing service.

      • I called the service number just now, the customer service gentleman said he will email me a return label and then they will send out a replacement once I have dropped it off at the post office. Thanks @Calmago

  • Got mine today but it does not have the charger at all. I had added Accessories as Keyboard and Mouse, so got that, but there is no charger in the box.
@Calmago should I email Customer Service to get the Charger?

    • yes

  • Just got my order. Amazing! Somehow I got over 100% battery health…Thanks.

Should buy another one for my parents

  • Serious? Battery health shows as 13.9%?!?

    How does the program tells?

  • Sent an email yesterday and wasn't offered a return label or replacement. Very disappointing.

    • What is wrong with the unit you received?

      • Same issue as nuno
Condition was also poor. Food particles lodged into the sides and deep scratches on the seceen.
Sent through photos in the initial email yet wasnt offered a replacement and after back and forth emails they informed me they've run out of stock to replace. Go figure.
They offered a HP replacement though. Not what I really want tbh.

  • Received mine today. Appearance wise it looks ok-ish but wasn't able to use it much as the battery died. Plugged in the charger and lo and behold it wont charge. Flashing white connector light. This is insane. Quality control is laughable.

Will have to send it back for a refund. I hope they send me a pre-paid satchel as I wont be footing the return expense.

edit: reading the above comments about this company, they sound pretty dodgey. Hit and miss.

  • +4

Folks testing battery health: please remember to try 3-4 full charge-discharge cycles and generate a report each time (or maybe one report after multiple cycles?).

This will help calibrate the battery management system to accurately check capacity. Even then, it seems to vary by quite a lot each cycle (5-10%). It’s kinda inaccurate I guess.

So don’t despair right away, it could be lying to you!

  • Mine finally arrived today and so far so good. What process is everyone using for the battery test?

  • Mine arrived today. Decent condition, little bit of gunk from greasy hands here and there, but nothing a good clean won't sort out. Battery health at 86%, with 515 cycles on it already. Happy with what I got for the price.

Does have the big red lock icon at start up, I'll do some googling for how to get rid of that. Then I might have a go at installing windows 11

    • Mine does that but didn't stop me installing win11

      • Any guide or tricks to get windows 11 installed? I saw it saying CPU wasn't supported

    • Update, after cycling battery once, it has improved to 92% battery health. So fully charge, and then run the battery down a bit before you judge the battery health.

      • Mine went from 93-97% health after one charge cycle

  • Arrived this morning. 21 cycles and 91.5% battery after one full charge.

Not complaining, but makes me wonder what NSW DoE did sitting on some of these units for all those years.

    • Mine was 15 charge/ discharge cycles and 99.5% battery health, after one full charge, the battery health shows 101.4%. Does anyone know why this is happening?

      • Do at least three cycles to let the battery and bms settle.

        • Should it be fully discharged and then fully charged each time? Mine is at 87.9% on 60 cycles.

  • Got mine today after shipping getting delayed . Not happy with the unit. A lot of marks, scuffs and scratches, very dirty under the hinges. Front camera is covered in dust particles. Not sure how they qualify as refurbished. Thought was a good deal but now I feel like it was a scam.

  • just received mine today after a long delay in shipping. plenty of marks/scratches on my unit on the front and back. To top it all off, a line crack from the bottom to the right side of the screen. wear and tear, I get but not sure if a crack on the screen is "A grade".

  • +2

Seems like a mixed bag, but for me at least its the best $200 impulse buy I've done in ages. Now I want the latest one lol

    • Latest one isnt necessarily the best. I would recommend the Pro 8 LTE model if you are frequently on the move.

  • +1

@Ruisu it sounds like you got a particularly bad one. Definitely luck of the draw but agreed the supplier did no 'refurbishing' of these units

    • Yeah it is unfortunately the luck of the draw. Have emailed them. Will see what they say.

    • +1

Oh dear, yeah it must be mixed bag mine is really quite flawless.

  • The tablet is really nice. Thanks lads!
