The pre order metal coin is going for more than the luggage tag on eBay. At least half of the game cost is covered :(

    • +6

OMG - had no idea anyone would want these things! Tempted to flog mine now - $40-50 is nothing to sneeze at!

      • Don't forget to account for postage and eBay fees (if selling there).

    • +5

Went into JB at launch without preorder and they sold me the coin version. Been playing heads or tails with the missus on who will do the shrines. Worth it.

    • +1

(profanity) really? I haven’t even opened mine lol sweet

    • I did preorder 1 day before release thought might missed the coins. However i got 3 coins for 2 games and 1 Zelda console.

    • Did Amazon preorders get the coin? My payment declined and I wasn't going to fix it, but wondering if I should?

      • +1

Amazon preorder did not get the coin

      • +1

Amazon rarely gets pre order bonuses.

It's mostly JB , Gamesmen and EB Games.

  • +6

Gerry still giving $20 gc for the game, didn't support him though.

    • didn't support him though.

      I doubt he cares.

    • He makes thousands per minute in rent from JBHIFI and hundreds of other stores. Your money goes to Gerry weather you see it or not.
From Wagyu farms to race horses to retail stores to property.
Gerry does Assets, advisory and financials, he lends the money and a leasing spot for thousands of retailers..

He probably owns half your house along with the bank.

      • How do you know he hasn't fully paid off his house?

  • +2

So many on FB marketplace for less too.

    • Are these the people who finish the game in 2 days then sell it right away lol

      • +3

Or just after the pre order bonus

      • +1

Mostly haha. I thank them regularly. Get new games quite cheap!

    • I cant find it on marketplace for any less than $70

      • There was one up for $75, I offered $60. Easy peasy :-)

  • +2

i thought Link destroyed the Calamity Ganon in the last game?

    • +12

Guess it’s time(200hrs) to find out

      • +4

im thinking more like 300 hours

map is x 3 of Botw and theres more to do.

i.e. locating Korok seeds have doubled.

And theres also hidden caves on top of Shrines

Even at $80 this game is well worth it.

I'd rather pay $80 for a game with a long amount of game time than 3 cheap games at $25 each which a short time span.

        • Currently lost underground with how huge it is. A lot of stuff to go through, too many buttons and skills to switch. Can truthfully say this iteration is not newb friendly lol.

          • @Metre: Totk is defintely way harder than botw.

Im actually a bit worried for master mode now lol

        • so this is a GTA Zelda?

        • I never got near to finishing BOTW, because it felt time consuming. Is this worth another shot even if I haven't finished BOTW?

          • +1

@squaredonut: Hmmm. If you never completed BoTw and dont feel you can do something similar than no.

Totk is 3 times as big than Botw

            • @SpeedRunnerLink: @SpeedRunnerLink fair enough, I think I'm just too old for something so open world. I just want my ocarina of time style dungeons and finite guided path lol

              • @squaredonut: oh I totally understand where you're coming from.

Even though i think botw is a great game and I pumped 250-300 hours into it.

I would never play it again.

But where as OOT i've played like 10 times over because I know its not that massive of a game.

But… botw and totk you need to play full at least once.

It's just the exploration which makes it fun.

But if you're restricted on time then its a tough one.

                • +2

@SpeedRunnerLink: @SpeedRunnerLink Yep, with kids, no way I can do this, at this time in my life, I can only do games like OOT or Mario Odyssey where I can pick up play a bit, put it back down and come back to it and know my progress.

              • +1

@squaredonut: You can play BoTW and TotK like OoT if you want, just ignore the exploration, and follow then main quest markers. BOTW only has 4 main dungeons when you play it like that, and the compulsory shrines add up to another few dungeons.

Not sure how long TotK is if you play it like that, I only just got ultrahand.

                • +1

@Tunblor: Its just a waste of money if you dont play it to its full potential.

It's like buying a ferrari but you only will do 110kms max in or watching movie recap to get the idea of the whole movie however you cant experience all the sounds and scenes that make the movie unique.

The exploration is the main point of the game.

                • @Tunblor: Yeah I heard that you can play it sequentially, but I'm sure I'm not that great at it that I can go without exploring and getting more equipment and heart containers lol.

Also back to me being an old man, I get impatient dying, waiting it to reload me back to somewhere and make me do it again. Man the times of Ocarina of times when an enemy spawns on me and I have yet to have enough X items to fight it, take ocarina out, and teleport to somewhere safe, ahhh haha

                  • @squaredonut: I highly recommend you find one of the towers that lauches you into the sky where there is a island nearby with fairies (can't remember which one but you should be able to google it).

Theres about 3-4 there which is very useful when your exploring and come across a really hard enemy.

If you can't beat them then teleport out of there.

        • Correction torturing Koroks

    • +2

Not if you didn't finish the game.

    • Zombie gannon maybe?

    • +8

      Basically every Zelda game:

Ganon: Guess who's back, back again

      • Some Zelda games didnt have Ganon as the main boss.

        • +2

Yeah I know. I'm just oversimplifying things for the sake of a meme

    • +2

(Opening custscene) Introduces a new villain actually, I'm probably 30-40 hours in and they've honestly done an incredible job of telling a new story in the same world and making the story feel quite substantially different.

    • +6

      Somehow Ganon returned.

  • +1

If there's something else you want (e.g. BOTW) which still carries a price tag the eshop double game passes are pretty good value at $67.50 per game. Gotta pair it with another $69-$79 game to make it worthwhile though.

    • for digital of course.

    • It's even better if you grab some 10% off eshop vouchers from the occasional big w sale.

  • I have the collectors edition costed me 179 with 10 bucks discount :D

  • I wouldn't mind playing this on Switch but in nearly mid 2023, it's not worth buying one for the few games I'm interested in. It's so overpriced, I love Nintendo but I hate Nintendo for this very reason.

    • Just buy the game once it's playing flawlessly on emulators in a few months (weeks?) and play it on PC.

    • -4

@Justin9mm If you truly love Nintendo you would have bought one 6 years ago LOL

Quit the fake Nintendo fanboy comments.

    • Just buy a second hand one? You'll probably make most of your money back selling afterwards.

      • Nah Switch resell value has dropped now as its abundant in stock.

It was pretty hot during COVID due to demand.

The rare games on the Switch though do go up in value.

        • +1

Yeah resell has dropped so buy 2nd hand for cheap and sell 2nd hand for cheap

Take a small loss to play some great games

          • @freoleo: ^^This

I bought the first Switch at launch, but as various family members have wanted them I buy them on Marketplace cheap. Stick drift or broken sticks are easy enough to fix yourself on the cheap. I got one Switch for a song because it had one broken stick and the kid selling it just wanted to cash out. Perfect otherwise and has seen many hours use since.
I was contemplating trading in a Lite model for an OLED recently before managing to snag one on FB Marketplace cheap and selling the Lite back through Marketplace which made my total out of pocket something like $70 to go from a Lite to an OLED (AND it came with another game I could sell when I'm done with it).

As long as they aren't physically banged up, they seem to just keep on working.

    • +2

I have actually got more value out of the switch then my PS5.

  • +4

I have been playing this game for a bit now, it's been as good if not better than botw. I would recommend! :)
I could play forever if I had the time!!

    • -1

The new mechanics are a lot of fun, but it was also pretty heart-warming to go to the stables, and (after obligatory tutorial text) find that all my horses from BotW carried over to TotK.

      Sadly, no amiibo Wolf ally.

      • ah no thats a spoiler :/ I havent made it that far yet!

        • Sorry.

Only thought of it as a logical BotW saved game bonus that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere (that you'd find out within minutes of leaving the starting area), rather than a potential spoiler.

      • make sure to attach a rocket to your shield.

  • +1

Was impressed by the new mechanics in this game, they have so many more possibilities than the abilities in BOTW. Wouldn't be surprised if people started making huge rocket powered roller coasters with poor Koroks stuck to them in a couple of weeks' time.

  • Would this be worth getting a Switch for? I've never owned or played games on a Switch…

  • +11

Man putting this game up on my 65" OLED has really shown how desperately Nintendo need to release a new console.

    • +1

Definitely agree, it looks so amazing in 4K, just a shame that I had to resort to emulation to achieve it. I bought the game to support the devs, but my switch sits in a draw because I can’t bring myself to play it at such low resolution.

      • +1

Wild that we live in a time where you can emulate current gen hardware better than the hardware itself runs it.

        • -3

Switch came out in 2017, as a cut down portable console. It was hardly current gen then nor it is now.

          • +4

@krisspy: Come on man, I'm using the correct vernacular.
I understand it's underpowered but it's Nintendo's current gen console.

The point that I'm making is that it's not been retired, games are currently being developed and released for it and it's crazy emulation runs it better than the actual hardware.

  • I need to play BOTW first - anybody know any good deals other than Marketplace or first page of Google Shoping results?

  • can you play this if you havnt played any previous Zelda games?

    • +3

I highly recommend you play botw first

    • +1

I haven't played a Zelda game since the DS yet have jumped back in at TOTK. This is a direct sequel to BOTW though so if you're a big story fan you will probably get more out of having the context.

      • Links awakening is quite fun and easy to get into as well. Totk will be my third Zelda game ever and I'm kinda hooked now

  • +2

I preordered on Amazon and they still haven't sent out my copy. I'm thinking of cancelling and ordering this.

    • +1

      Serious?

      I've already played since Friday.

      Thats disgusting.

Cancel it and just pick it up locally.

      • I'm going away on fri for the week so even if it arrived today I probably won't play it for a week and a half now.
I'm usually not too fussed about playing games immediately when they come out, especially now I have kids. I just get to them when I can.
This is the first game I've preordered I think since COD4, so just reminding me why I usually don't rush haha.

    • +1

Mine shipped from Amazon yesterday. I didn't get a really early preorder in but I still did it a few weeks in advance. I never usually preorder, but I thought Amazon had a reasonably good reputation for preorder deliveries? I'm definitely surprised to wait a whole week after release, especially for a game of this scale.

      • Did you order with Prime shipping? I didn't have Prime at the time I ordered so my order says it will be delivered between today and Friday. But seeing as they haven't shipped it yet I don't think that will happen.

        • +1

Sure did. Thankfully I'm not too fussed because I'm very time-poor lately, it hasn't made a difference to me. Pretty average experience though, I won't be doing that again. The whole point of a preorder is guaranteed stock on launch day, at least in brick and mortar stores.

      • Amazon has a shocking reputation for preorders, you can order 6 months in advance and it can come 3 weeks late

        never preorder from Amazon
