Only available on the 12, 25 and 50 plans.
Prices for which are pretty high compared to other options, $79.99 for 50 is way more than I pay for 100

    • +1

The point of deals like this is to get a free month. The ongoing rate is irrelevant when you cancel before you get charged.

    • They also charged me the $79.99 for the first month…

  • -2

One month plan fees waived for new NBN 12 Limitless

So half the speed of ADSL

    • Actually it's 8x the speed of ADSL

      • -1

I was getting over 22Mbps on ADSL

        • +1

Not possible on ADSL, maybe you had ADSL2+?

          • -2

@Its4me: I didn’t specify the version of ADSL.

ADSL2+ is a subset of ADSL

    • +2

Such speed in the year 2023! And for only $64.99 per month!

  • expires today

  • I signed up. No future activation date option. They connected me in around 15 mins. Please note that we will commence billing for your NBN service on 25-05-2023. So extra three days free. Don't forget to unselect Fetch to make this actually free.

    • so technically your first charge comes 25-06-2023?

      • Yes. It seems that way. I have logged in, but my first invoice is not ready yet, so can't confirm. The "Please note" part is from their welcome email.

        • Great. I just signed up for a free month and am awaiting the activation email. Is it easy to cancel the service? I was looking around the dashboard but couldn't find the option.

          • @Windows7forever: Moving home? Either that or email. I haven't tried yet. Still using faster internet on another port.

    • Hi there, where did you see the info about commencing billing on 25/5/23?
I got into Toolbox dashboard, but can't find anything there.

      • They emailed it to me. I had not connected yet. The email was titled "Please plug in your modem" and it said "Please note that we will commence billing for your NBN service on 25-05-2023. After this, you will not be entitled to compensation for inactive NBN services except where it is confirmed that a service fault was the cause of inactivity."

  • do iiNet do a credit check?

    • +1

Don’t think so didn’t have to give them any ID to sign up

    • Even if they do, pretty sure it’ll be a soft credit check.

    • -1

      Why does it matter?

      You hiding something?

      • haha with the hacks like Optus & Medibank I prefer not to send them copies of my ID which is usually the request when they want to credit check, not that they actually need this to credit check

    • +1

      Nah no credit check.

  • +3

Cheers op, signed up. Now I have a month to find my next victim!

    • Who's on the list good sir :D

      • Maybe kogan for 6 months:
        https://www.koganinternet.com.au/
Iinet charged me in the first month for the second month. Furthermore, I'm still getting charged by MORE. I don't even know if I'm connected to iinet because I didn't change anything in the router. Not happy.

        • Yeh I saw iiNet were about to charge me for another month mid cycle so I changed my billing details to a card which has no $ in it haha. Going to be an interesting few days. Will probably head back to Launtel for a few days while waiting to decide on another deal

          • @MBix: I got charged today, but they assure me that it will be refunded automatically. No idea why they need to take it out more than a week in advance, but fine. Not much I can do about it.

As for where to go to next, Mate are doing $1 for a month. Aussie always have a month free if you haven't been with them for six months. Then there's all the one off satisfaction guarantees, and 4G free for the first month, assuming you can get Voda 4G where you are.

  • So you can just sign up without modem bundle, use for a month and cancel ?

  • Thanks OP! Signed up, hopefully can cancel without issues before the month is up.

  • It still works:

    Promo 1MONTHOFF successfully applied.

    • yes still active on their homepage for anyone still wanting to signup

  • +2

FYI - To cancel or close an account, please call us on 1300 796 178.

    • +1

If you port out it shouldn’t matter

      • +2

On FTTP/W many will just activate on the next port, leaving you with two active connections and bills. Even if they do take over the existing port, some require 30 days notice and keep charging you. So sure, it shouldn't matter, but it does.

        • +1

Oh I’m on FTTN so I’ve never had the issue, forgot about that

  • So can we cancel now and serve out the rest of the month?

  • Thanks OP this was a sleeper deal. Any expected issues with a smart modem 3? I just happened to find 2 modems in a council cleanup haha

    • Just an update worked straight away, connected in under 20 mins on FTTN

      • It’s constantly flashing green though unsure if updating or something else

        • so its not connecting? depending on who you were with previously/current SM3 settings you will need to change those to iinet settings likely including login details
if you mean the NBN modem then that would say it's not connected yet

          • @Irishness: It's connected and working but logs are going nuts, I'd say its not fully compatible unless I flash unlocked firmware but the speeds are as promised. I factory resetted

            • @DemocracyManifest: haven't played with the SM3 for a while as I got rid of mine so sounds like you know what you are doing, I'm sure others are using it on iinet have you looked on whirlpool?

    • It works fine on my SM3.

      • Is yours flashing green? I’m on FTTN

        • +1

Hmm, mine used to be solid green but now is flashing as well since connecting to iiNet.

        • +1

Now it's flashing yellow at the front but the connection is solid. Weird.

  • +1

They charged me for the first month lol, wtf.

    • When?

      • They charged me on the day they connected me.

  • Just noticed this:

‘ If you supplied bank account details, please note that debit requests will typically be made several days before the invoice due date to make sure the payment clears in time. Credit cards will typically debit on the invoice due date.’

  • Code is still working. Just signed up for a free month. Hopefully can cancel before the next billing cycle.

  • Be careful. I signed up on the 23/5 and they sent out an invoice pre-billing me for the following month which would take effect from the 14/6. I went through enough hassle with their billing dept that I told them to cancel it immediately in order to not to be charged. It really isn't worth your time if you are just trying to get a free month out of them. You will get 3 weeks at most and you have to worry about the direct debits. I would have considered keeping the service but it's not worth $80 per month considering how little I stream / download.

    • interested to know what the hassle was with their billing depart? I'm not that impressed with speed / latency etc & was thinking to cancel and have also received a forward invoice not sure it's worth $80 for another month when I can go to superloop or the likes for a lot less

      • Wasting time on the phone, getting hot potatoed around their different departments, enduring the sales retention tactics they use to keep you on board. Basically, hassle.

    • Second that. On the phone with iiNet now. Billing team told me that it takes 3 to 5 business days to cancel a connection, which is kinda ridiculous. Next bill will be direct debited on 14/6.

The only way to cancel or close an account is to call them.

      • will they allow you to nominate a cancellation date or are they just making difficult because they can?

        • +1

They allowed me to choose a specific cancellation date. I have had other ISPs claim that they can't cancel on a specific date, but instead choose a range. When they cancelled after the date I nominated, and tried to charge me, I complained, and they refunded me.

          • @[Deactivated]: Hi Skylex, good to know that you got the cancellation on a specific date. Will try to do the same when I call in next time.

They're def difficult to deal with. Even I made it abundantly clear that I will not use the service for 2nd month. The logical thing would be to allow my connection until the end of current month and cancel the invoice just issued. But no, they said they are unable to cancel an issued invoice.

            • @ja912son: quite obvious they are purposely being difficult, a big organisation like TPG hard to believe they need 3-5 business days to cancel when most ISP's can schedule or do so immediately, I battled with them back in adsl days when they had the whole mess where they wouldn;t bridge a connection in a unit block from telstra side to MDF and added a $100 charge without agreement. Anyway there's always TIO I guess

anyway it does mention a pro rata refund on balance after cancellation, it's just getting cancellation

    • +1

I signed up on the 22nd and they just sent me a bill for my first free month from the 22nd to the 22nd of May, so one day free, and the 23rd of May to 22nd of June as the next billing period.

I already made a TIO dispute to get them to call me to cancel, since they refused to cancel through email. I might have to make another one if they can't fix it by email.

      • Now i wish i shouldn't have signed up. Just signed up today and i think i should just cancel by calling them tomorrow

        • +1

I'm used to this kind of thing with trying out new ISPs. So I'm not surprised. So far I have not had to pay for free internet, but I have had to email a lot. If you don't think the savings are worth it, then I understand not bothering.

  • +1

    I just got a bill

    Issued on: 01 Jun 2023

    Due Date: 15 Jun 2023

    Amount: $79.99

What’s this bullshit I just signed up? Means I’ll be direct debited on the 11th? 😆

    • Ring them and cancel the service before you get charged.

  • +1

I churned away last night and today received an invoice for a negative amount. Free money?

    They have no (profanity) idea.

    • Did you simply port out?

      • +1

Yes and I received multiple cancellation confirmations from iiNet. FTTN connection.

  • Didn’t stay on as moved to Tangerine FTTN deal - was anyone able to keep their modem? Agent said I could keep it - I didn’t have it - but I assumed we would have to pay for it? Probably a mistake from the operator but I know Telstra with the 30 day guarantee has let people keep in the past

  • for all the scare stories on here thought I'd share that while I found their speeds a little congested at times cancellation took 1 phone call, confirmation messages received & full refund within days on the following months billing they had debited so full credit to them
