The original Miyoo Mini was a very popular handheld emulation game console and now Miyoo's latest edition is on sale in multiple colours. This one is larger than the original with a larger/better screen, better ergonomics making it easier to grip for longer periods and a slightly larger battery.

The internals remain the same so it's suitable for playing games on the classic platforms like NES, SNES, Mega Drive, NEOGEO, Gameboy, as well as anything up to the PS1. Anything above like the PSP and Dreamcast will struggle. With the 4:3 screen ratio this is perfect for games on the Gameboy Advance.

Other features include a Linux OS with RetroArch, OnionOS support, 3.5" IPS 640x480 display, 3000mAh removable battery with 4-5 hours of playtime, vibration motor, speakers, USB-C for charging, MicroSD card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack. For controls there's a dpad, ABXY buttons, select/start and R1/R2/L1/2 shoulder buttons.

For reviews I recommend checking out ETA Prime's video which shows game performance on different platforms.

  • lmao why was this removed?

    • Also keen to know how it's a "banned item"

      • +2

Maybe because it comes with full SD card?

        • +1

          So did the RG35xx deal

    • +1

Because the page advertised the fact that it comes preloaded with games.

It comes with 6000 preloaded games. Supports a maximum expansion of 128GB

WiFi is built in and 6000 games come preloaded.

Looks like Clear was able to get GeekBuying to remove those texts so now it's fine as long as you don't dig into the reviews where it's also mentioned.

  • Wait… Why are the specs off and apparently suppirts HDMI abd third part controlllers????

    • +2

Thanks I'll get those fixed up.

      • How long until these will be shipped out? @Clear

  • +5

To be honest I reckon you're better off with the RG35XX from this deal.

Cheaper, built more sturdy (lots of reports of the Miyoo crapping itself after a short fall onto carpet), and also has a GPU which is being unlocked via the Batocera CFW which lets it handle some N64, Dreamcast, and even some NDS games I believe. Even without the GPU unlock it has the same performance as the Miyoo.

Extra note, slightly bigger than the Miyoo as well, I have a 35XX and honestly it's at the limit of being comfortable to hold and I don't exactly have big hands.

    • +1

      100%

    • +1

Disagree. I've had the Miyoo for a while, and also bought ^ from that deal.

Miyoo is more practical, fits in the pocket, and perfect for gaming on the go / toilet, etc.

I've finished a few GBA games on it this year.

True about it being less durable though.

      • +6

They're both similar/comparable. It's just personal preference in the end.
Miyoo mini has WiFi (for retro achievements and OTA updates), is smaller/more pocketable.
RG35xx is cheaper, more durable, slightly taller (thus more ergonomic), and has micro HDMI out.
Onion OS (miyoo) vs Garlic OS (RG35xx) are both good. The former is more mature, but the latter has a bit more customisability/development.
They both play the same systems in the end. I prefer RG35xx colour schemes

I personally never put these in my pants pockets so RG35xx wins due to it being a bit more comfortable to hold, durable, and most importantly… cheaper (approx $10 ; though you need to factor in need to get new micro SD cards if you don't have any spare).
I wish RG35xx has WiFi/bluetooth for convenience and I don't really care about the HDMI compatibility.

      • +1

I wanted the Analogue Pocket. I could afford the Miyoo Mini. GB/C is all I really cared about so it was perfect.

        • I was tempted by the Analogue Pocket, but I don't love the form factor or screen ratio. I'm also tempted by this as it's pretty cheap and does look cool.

Reckon I'll wait for a better FPGA handheld than the Pocket though. Could be a while, but I'm sure we'll get one eventually.

          • +1

@Fappo: I feel like I'll spend the rest of my life waiting for the next big FPGA. Cycle accurate N64 gaming would be what I want, but where does it end. I'd want PSP next, then gamecube, and I'll be an old demented man by the time they come up with my dream retro gaming device.

            • @AustriaBargain: An N64 core is currently in development for MiSTer. That seems like it will most likely be the upper limit of the hardware (though we're still yet to see it running). The PlayStation 1 core is solid and runs great and the Sega Saturn core seems to be progressing very well but I haven't checked that out yet. I'm really looking forward to it but I'm waiting until it's out of beta.

        • +1

Got the Analogue Pocket, it is a perfect Gameboy, Gameboy Color device, but it gets left perfect, less ideal for other devices, even the Gameboy Advance.

I think something like the Miyoo Mini is a better choice for the price, I'm so bloody worried about the Analogue Pocket I won't let my kids use it. No fun being worried about it so much.

    • +2

Even more efficient are the landscape designs.
They're generally more pocket friendly, yet in the hands they're quite a bit more comfortable or ergonomic.

So the likes of the Miyoo Mini+, RG 35xx, and RG 353v are more of a "toy" compared to the likes of the RG 353m, RG 405m, and Retroid Pocket 3+.

I think a good way to narrow the choices is to ask which is the highest system you want to play, how pocketable/portable you need it, and if there's anything that "sparks joy" to you.

    • The reports of Miyoo fragility are mostly from the Mini. I have had a Mini Plus for a couple of months, it has been flawless, and I keep it unprotected bouncing around in a bag and it still looks as new. Also aesthetically I think it just looks a lot more polished than the RG35XX (just the fine details seem better thought out).

My only negative is also true with the Anbernic, which is that it will only charge using a USB A-C cable.

    • If Dreamcast/PSP is important, then more power to you…

I just wanna play Pokemon hacks one handed

I want ten seconds from powering on to pick where I left off, one to shutdown

I am sick of emulationstation lol

I want img previews on my save states load screen, so I know precisely which one to load among hundreds (never seen this outside onion tbh, glad if I'm wrong)

I don't wanna pop out the sd card in and out just to try a romhack … (MMP: drag and drop via wifi and there's built in scraper soon)

Whoopsie! I broke my screen! Message miyoo official, click link, pay, swap screens … move on

Sometimes Contra is funner 2p, The Simpsons 4p lol

I wanna quickly skim pdf, ebooks, 480p quickruns

      Little things that really matter

      GPU, personally I don't care

  • +4

Great price. I bought mine from the official AliExpress store for over US$70.

It's an awesome device, especially when paired with the community-built Onion OS.

  • Hey @jv, what happened to your eyes, my dude?

    • He's a Collingwood supporter. Lucky it isn't he teeth…….yet

    • She got the Powkiddy treatment

  • Oh wait, clear, you now rep Geekbuying now? Good on you dude! You deserved it.

    • +1

Haha thanks. I've actually been a GeekBuying rep for just over 8 years now with this being my first post. I used to post 2-3 deals a week consistently for years but not as much in the last couple of years.

      • Wait really? I've never noticed it! No wonder you know so much about these Chinese fast tech products lol. I know your name for so long and trust your opinion on Android tablet, and that flew past me lol.

        • That's where my love for the cheap Chinese tech began. I'd spend hours with GeekBuying every week finding new products and talking prices.

          • @Clear: Haha I won't lie, I have been distant with geekbuying for years now because back in the redmi 3/4 era, they gave me a bunch of fake tracking numbers that I needed to contact the Chinese office directly. But considering you're with them and how long they've been around, I probably won't hesitate to shop with them a bit more now.

            • +2

@Wonderfool: Back in those days Xiaomi had real bad supply issues. Basically you'd order 1000 units from Xiaomi and due to shortages they'd only deliver 500 units and thus not enough phones for everyone. You could buy more units from 3rd party suppliers, but there were two issues. They'd often slap an extra $20-$50 ontop of the RRP so you'd make a loss, or worse they'd preload malware onto the phones.

I'm glad the days of supply chain issues are over. It certainly did a lot of damage.

            • @Wonderfool: I think Clear did an AMA. You would find it interesting if you can find it.

              • @Dontdoit: This one

People messaged me later asking why I'm so open about sensitive topics. Thats the point 😉

                • @Clear: Username checks out I guess! :D

In all honesty, really appreciate the honesty.

  • Hi Fellow ozbargainers.I have a question…is this appropriate to gift to a 5 year old? This doesn't look similar to the Tetris handheld videogames of my era. ( I have no experience with video games except when I was 18 … playing age of empires on PC. )

    • Definitely, lots of great retro games you could load on these that they'll love (they do come with a lot of games already but a few staples missing).

    • +2

I think 5 would be a bit young. These are quite fragile and need to be babied - a drop from waist height will total the screen.

If it was sturdier then maybe you could set it up and then give them instructions on how to use it…

      • Thanks for your inputs

      • +1

Could say the same about an ipad, even with those big bumper cases.

My 5yo has handled the RG35xx ok, only used seated though

    • +1

Powkiddy V90 is sturdy enough for a five yo, but shutting it down needs discipline

    • +1

My 5yo has been using my rG35xx, starting on some of the gameboy classics like tetris.

Hot keys for slow motion helped to get him started.

  • -2

Wait, can we wait for a wait with a wait because you have to start sentences with wait these days

  • +3

    Here's a great video comparing Miyoo Mini + and RG35XX https://youtu.be/Bdo44c2HsQY

TLDR : The Miyoo Mini + gets a slightly better score. Also worth noting that he gave only 5 points for availability

  • +1

Patiently waiting for a cheap PS2 portable.

    • What's the best option for this so far, do you think?

      • Steam Deck

      • +1

Check out the Anbernic RG505. It plays a lot of PS2 games and i only paid ~$300.

        • Thank you. This is the answer I was looking for.

      • +2

Odin devices will play more for roughly $400 odd.

Retroid pocket 3+ might be an alternative to the Anbernic for roughly $250 odd.

Theres a YouTube clip from RetroGameCorps comparing the RG505 and the Pocket 3+. It gives a good comparison.

        • Thanks - I'll check them out!

  • @Clear any suggestions where we can get a suitable screen protector?

    • +1

There's a separate screen protector included that you can use.

      • Thanks for the info, do you know if the protector plastic or tempered glass?

        • They'd be plastic. I know in the US you can get Boxwave glass protectors but I don't see anything really from China yet.

          • +1

@Clear: If it the same one that comes from Miyoo AliExpress store, then it's tempered glass.

            • +1

@RichardL: Yeah it would be. Thanks for confirming.

  • +1

These ones are cheap but come with 500 or so pirated games making it a banned item for advertising, you can get the same models slighly different but at a significantly cheaper price on Temu - if you want the good ones use alibaba to get the ones that can handle psx and psp on special they usually go for $149

  • +4

For anyone picking one of these up, I recommend you install the custom firmware: OnionOS.

Also highly recommend you replace the MicroSD card that comes with it has a high chance of failure/corruption.

  • Are there any of these kind of things that could manage gamecube games?

I invested in a gamecube, actually have a drive that can rip gamecube games and have a long holiday coming up. Without wanting to drop huge cash on an Asus machine.

    • Retroid pocket 3+ or anbernic RG353V

      • +1

The RG353 series can't play GameCube.

    • +2

I'm sorry but impoze's suggestion of the RG353V is incorrect. All the 353 line (V, M, P) can barely run most N64 titles at a stable frame rate, Gamecube has no chance. Retroid Pocket 3+ should manage!

    • +2

Your best bet is to look into the Ayn Odin devices. The Retroid machines aren't bad, but they lack the power the Odin has.

  • -2

Anything like this can run PS3 or PS4 games?

    • +1

PS3 emulation is very resource intensive and even the Steam Deck struggles. We're not quite there yet in emulation sadly.

  • -1

Too underpowered at this price. Go for RK2023

  • +4

Saw in the 35XX ozb post in the comments mention of this model on Temu.

I checked and it is there - though looks like limited quantities. With the 30% off new account coupon OFF4555 it comes to $74 delivered.

    • Link?

    • wish I hadn’t pulled the trigger so soon on geekbuying!
although, I see temu don't have stock on the colour I wanted anyway

    • Thanks, got one from there for $70.91, seems like there is limited time free shipping atm

  • Nice. Bought one.

  • +1

    Thanks OP got one

  • Coupons not working for me.

  • @Clear did I miss the sale?

    • I just tested the coupon and it's working. What happens when you try to apply the code?

      • The price doesn’t update for me.

      • Ok I downloaded the app instead of using a browser and it says coupon invalid @Clear

        • Which colour are you trying it on

          • @Clear: White

            • @KaijuKoala: Works for me. Are you doing the normal checkout instead of the PayPal express checkout?

              • @Clear: Yes, I can use “miyooplus” coupon but this one just won’t work for some reason.

                • @KaijuKoala: And you're obviously in Australia and shipping to Australia?

                  • @Clear: Yes

                  • @Clear: I got it working but I had to use my Laptop.

App and browsers wouldn’t work on mobile

                    • @KaijuKoala: Thats really weird. I don't suppose you have some kind of adblock like pi hole?
