      Ehhshayz

  • Decent deal for a low minimum spend credit card for Velocity Points in a time where finding redemption options for Qantas is a bit harder.

Will be interested to see how people fare with the speed of getting the 60,000 bonus points for NAB, given the wait/processing time experienced on similar promotions on non-direct FF cards (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728989).

    • It's saying you need to keep the card for 12 months. So would you get the points before the 12 months is over?

      • You get the 60k points when you meet the requirements, and the extra 10k points if you keep the card for 12 months (not worth it). So just cancel once you get the 60k pts.

        • Ah yep. Awesome. Cheers for clearing that up for me!

    • I got my points on that deal very quickly, the annoying thing was they sent a single SMS to notify you… this isn't great in the current climate of scams and the like.

  • Righto, since 2023 who has been able to pro rata refund their annual fee? Are you still doing this?

Can you convert NAB rewards -> Krisflyer or is it just Velocity?

    • +2

i tried, didnt get it. same card. tried in feb 2023

    • +1

I got anz pro rata refund couple months back.

    • +2

Tried with my last NAB qantas card and they refused saying they don’t pro rate if the annual fee is reduced

    • +1

I got a Citi Premier refund in the last month or so but had to hassle them a bit

      • Can i ask, did they send it via a cheque? Or did they just provide the credit back onto the card?

    • +1

Na it was reported they announced they are stopping it end of last year.

  • I just applied and got the approval almost immediately.

provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number to NAB to enrol in Auto Redemption,

Anyone knows how to provide Velocity FF number to NAB?

    • +1

You’ll receive an email from NAB after your application has been approved with information on how to provide your Velocity Frequent Flyer membership number to NAB.

    • Lucky you! I need to call them :(

    • Yeh no email to add auto redemption. Hmm

    • +5

I only got the "active your autoredemption" email after 2-3 weeks of having the card. It basically said the following:

Access the NAB Rewards Store via Cards in NAB Internet Banking, or the NAB app

Click on the person icon and select Profile

Select 'find out more' in the Automatic Redemptions section

Under Velocity click set up autoredemption. Enter your details and submit.

    • +8

Just got approved. And did the following.

      Login to your internet banking
      Cards
Redeem points (opens new tab automatically logged in to your rewards portal.)
      Top main menu.
      My account
      Profile
Then you have access to auto redeem options where you can provide your Velocity number.

      • You did this immediately before receiving your card? I have tried Chrome and Safari on my iPhone and the link to the rewards store always has me logged out.

        • Yea mate. But on safari macOS.

          • @Evostar: Hmm, still not working for me on desktop. Will need to try again after my card arrives.

            • +1

@Marrk: If anyone else has the issue, I called NAB and they said I may need to wait another week or two until the rewards store link is working due to some sort of migration/my new card not showing in a particular system.

They claimed I would still receive the bonus points in the form of NAB points even if auto redemption for Velocity is not turned on - won't take their word for this/will check again in a week or two.

Has anyone had success applying for a NAB card directly after closing a Citi card? I just churned a Citi Rewards deal was thinking about a Westpac offer for existing customers 70k VFF, $4k min spend in 90 days and reduced annual fee of $99 ($49+$50 VFF program fee) but this is a much better offer. The only thing is that I don't want to take a double hit on credit checks if the NAB card is declined because I came straight from Citi.

    • +1

For anyone curious - I applied for this card just now after closing a Citi card on 25 May and I have been conditionally approved just need to send through the payslips. I currently also hold AmEx Velocity Escape, AmEx Qantas Discovery and Bankwest Zero Platinum cards.

      • As another data point, I have a Citi Premier which has a relatively high credit limit (and still have it). Got rejected instantly for a further card with Virgin Money which required a minimum credit limit of $6k. Instantly approved for this NAB card at the minimum limit. Looks like there hasn't yet been any integration of the NAB and Citi credit files yet.

        • So if I already recently got Virgin Money and apply for this it is likely to be instantly rejected?

          • @JHoliday: No way to know for sure, but I would suspect that NAB can't see your Citi credit card data at the moment, except to the extent it appears on your credit report, and to the extent you disclose it in your application.

  • +3

18 months wait time if held a NAB card.

    • +1

Wait so Citibank card is counted as a Nab card?

      • No it does not.

      • Would like to know this too. Can’t see Citi mentioned anywhere in the T&Cs

    • +5

My read of the T&C's is only if you held a NAB Rewards Platinum or NAB Rewards Signature in the last 18 months would you be ineligible. The Qantas Rewards cards are a different product line and don't impact this.

      • that was my question lol, thx for the answer.

      • If I've held a NAB Qantas Rewards Signature card in the last 18 months, I can still apply for this and be eligible for the points?

        • -4

No. If you have held any NAB branded card, you are ineligible. If you haven't held any NAB branded card, regardless you held Citicard or not, you are eligible. Just think of NAB and Citi as two separate banks (even though they are under NAB)

          • +1

@Jetkuma: That's not what the T&Cs say, they specifically refer to the non-Qantas version

        • +1

That's exactly what I said in my comment.

      • From the Point Hacks website:

NAB has confirmed that any existing customers on a NAB direct-earn Qantas card, such as the NAB Qantas Rewards Signature and NAB Qantas Rewards Platinum, are eligible for this offer, subject to meeting the offer requirements.

  • -6

    Got Annual fee. No thanks.

    • +8

60k velocity points for $95 seems like a great deal to me

    • Guy wants cheap bargain not ozbargain

  • Velocity Points vs Flybuy Dollars
    Which one is better?

    • +1

Depends what you want to use the points. One is for shopping and the other is for travel.

    • 2:1 flybuy : velocity
      1000 flybuy = 500 velocity

      • Does that mean double price to pay a ticket if you convert flybuy dollars to velocity?

    • The one that you need fewer of for the reward you want.

  • -5

I have three credit card now. Can i apply this one?

    • +11

It's not the number of cards you have but your total credit liability.

If you have to ask such question then i recommend you shouldn’t get any more credit card.

      Note, i didn't neg you.

  • +16

Prefer velocity over Qantas right now

    • +6

Qantas are a nightmare to book rewards with and Jack seems to be a QFF manager.

      • +3

        Really?

Recently went to the US for 80k QFF points and ~$340, and recently booked another trip to Asia for 40k QFF points +$240.

Equivalent US flight at the time was ~$2.5k. Equivalent flight to Asia at the moment is ~$928 so the value is not as good as the US trip but.. still feels pretty good to me.

        • The economy rewards are easy as to find, it's the extremely linited availability of premium cabins which are hard to find, i personally would never do aus to the usa in economy, id rather stay home

      • Never had any issues with it. True, it can be harder to find Qantas rewards but that's the nature of the game - you snooze you lose.

  • So similar to ANZ, getting this is OK even if had their Qantas card within 12 months?

  • Whoops instant rejection :/

    • -3

Me too, must be the $30k combined limit on my existing credit cards (2x).

      • +5

        That isn't it.

        • Genuine question, is that not a valid reason for rejection?

          • +2

@ozbargain2019: Not really. It would be a combination - credit limit you currently have, personal loans, mortgage., income/expenses, and cash/investment available (think liquidity). Lastly, how many times you applied credit in recent months.

The way I look at if I am getting rejected or approved, it is usually how much my current net income vs my expenses (how much more positive), my cash availability, and investments/assets. If these add up are greater than your personal loans, mortgage, and total credit limit, they would processed it through the bot. After that, they will want someone to comb through the final details. Each bank has different tolerance, so they want to see 2x serviceability (cash and income) vs total credit limit. The easiest way to think is, your liquidity vs your credit limit, are you in positive and by how much? If it is 3 or 4x then most likely you will pass that application bot.

            That's kind of the gist

      • Is it the income/expenses ratio ?

(Not sure why I got down voted)

  • Do i need to have a nab account already?

    • No, I don't think so

  • +2

What's this worth in terms of gift cards? No interest in FF points.

    • +5

      Roughly 300$

      • after $95 Annual Fee?

      • Is it worth $300 after $95 Annual Fee? What is the best way to convert into cash equivalent?

  • Can i close my existing NAB Qantas Card, apply this card and get the bonus points, then ask NAB to link it to my home loan and waive the annual fee?

    • Not sure about your first question but you can definitely pay the annual fee, bag the points and then seek a refund if you have a home loan package. I do this annually with Westpac.

    • Usually not

  • +1

Thanks OP, first time applying for a card merely for the points. Very easy and quick, got the card in Apple Pay in less than 20 minutes

    • 20 min? Approved already? Im still waiting.

      • +1

Yea, I already had a debit card with them

      • you can still register your card with apple pay (guessing google wallet as well) without having to receive your card. I still haven't received my card but have spent it at woolworths by registering to apple pay.

  • since the Coles Mastercard is through NAB, will that be declined if I churn this quickly? Refer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/772751

  • +6

"Your last name needs to be 20 letters or less and only contain alphabetical characters" - Never thought this would be a problem in an application for a credit which asks for your full legal name.

  • So if you keep them at NAB points it could be worth about $700 in gift cards from what I’ve found online.

Less the $300 fees over two years. Still works out great value.

    • Has anyone tried this before or think this would work? It says NAB points land in your account and then get auto redeemed after 10 days for Velocity Points. Can you just not link your Velocity number? Or me your NAB points before they get converted?

    • +2

      $700 over at least 13 months and $300 fees…

      Or…

$600 in as little as 1 month and $100 fees.
(and you can rinse and repeat in 19 months)

      • It would only be $500 no? But even those odds are better!
I think it’s just under 20000 NAB points per $100 gift card. Not sure if that’s Woolies cards or JB cards though. Either will work for me.

    • Account must be enrolled in auto-redemption to Velocity Frequent Flyer at the time of points allocation to be awarded the bonus points.

      • so does that means the $600-$100 (fees) for giftcard idea not going to work ? I'm confused XD

        • Yeah won’t work because it’s auto velocity deal.

    • but T&C says you must have auto-redemption turned on to be eligible for 120k points. I personally won't risk it by not turning on auto-redemption tbh.

  • I thought Qantas would be easier than Velocity? You're way in line using Velocity, like behind all the levels of Krisflyer I thought?

    • Im collecting vff for krisflyer - Singapore Airlines

  • Damn NAB for changing their exclusion period last year from 12 to 18 months, otherwise I'd just now be eligible :(

Guess I'll have to wait some more then :(

  • Has anyone ordered a card to overseas address?
Received approval in 5 mins after application just not sure if they will send the card overseas or not.
The address in the application was overseas

  • +2

Unclear to me from the above T&C’s what an “everyday purchase” is/is not (besides gambling - clearly not).

Is a bill an “everyday purchase”?

    • Im guessing online and in-store payments, may be direct debits,

    • It says 'Everyday purchases exclude transactions NAB decides are wholly or partly for gambling or gaming purposes'

I presume everyday purchases means things you purchase in your daily life - even if it's a one off holiday, not things you purchase for survival (like food)

      • Yes, holiday bookings would be eligible. So would groceries, fuel, department stores, Amazon and most other Ozbargain induced purchased.

        • Any idea about bpay. I pay rent via pay. Id hut that 1000$ spend in 2 weeks with just rent
