Gigabyte GAMING OC Radeon RX 6500 XT 4GB GDDR6 $169(centrecom.com.au)

That has to be the biggest weakest GPU I've ever seen

      • yes… but you have heard of me

      • +1

good god, that might break classical physics and be the first GPU to run colder than ambient temps…

  • wait or buy now?

    • +32

someone tell me please i don't want to think for myself!!

      • +10

Same. Literally being hodling for 3 years

        • +8

At least wait for end of financial year sale? It will also be cheaper in Christmas. But if you want to play some high demanding games now and have enough money to spare, try to play it in 1080p and wait.

        • +2

          I know your pain, I'm on a shitty GTX 1060 3gb.

I have upgraded every part of my PC besides that one piece.

        • +3

Bro I’m still on a GTX 980 and DDR3 RAM
Anything by would be an upgrade at this point 😭

        • +1

Rumour has it that AMD, nVidia and Intel will be coming out with better GPUs, so why buy when something better is around the corner?

The brilliance of my strategy is that you can repeat it next year. Invest the money and be happy.

      • Buy, it's your credit card, not mine.

Jokes aside, kinda prefer a GPU with 16GB VRAM.

    • +8

      Hodl army

      • +6

In the land where the tech and the cryptos reign,
Where HODL's the mantra, again and again.
Is it 'Hold On For Dear Life', a misspelling or jest?
In the wild world of trading, it's all for the best.

Once GPUs were plenty, priced fair and quite low,
Then Covid hit hard, and up the prices did go.
Now patience, dear friends, let's not rush to buy,
For the law of supply and demand cannot lie.

If we HODL and wait, let the market cool down,
We'll see GPUs aplenty, in every town.
So remember this rhyme, when you're tempted to spend,
HODL on, dear friend, it will pay off in the end.

    • +2

Waiting for it to drop under $400

      Cheaper yesterday

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/776849

      • +6

neg because of waiting for it to drop under $400?

Or cheaper yesterday? Or not the same?

        • +2

Should have said "HODLing for it to drop under $400".

        • +5

Yes, yes and yes. I didn't neg you though.
Don't worry about neg votes on OZB. A reason is not needed to neg a comment.

          • @netsurfer: I don't mind the neg, just want to know the reason.

Some said the Eagle model is no good from yesterday deal.

            • +4

@superforever: Can't be bothered figuring out why people neg voted you, so I + voted you to balance it. It's now 0. Let's hope it stays that way.

            • +1

@superforever: Just found that this is also the Eagle model, which is the same as yesterday deal.

              • +1

@superforever: Yeah noticed that.. so it is the same model. Guessing it might have something to do with wait till it is until $400.

    • Buy 6700 2nd hand off eBay. Winning.

      • +1

where? most are +$500 from what I'm seeing

        • I must have got lucky. For $500 you’d take this.

          • +1

@WhyAmICommenting: Yeah, there was a massive supply of exminer cards for 400 bucks, as low as 380 at one point. Now it's gone.

    • +2

These and the 6750 XT are probably the best value cards on the market mate and I wouldn't wait too long because they are already 3 years old and this is covid back ordered stock. Once it's gone it's gone.

      • +1

FB Marketplace had a 6750 XT for $380. Missed out.

Got the Red Devil 6700 XT for $400 though

    • +2

i bought it for 699 November 2022, haven't even installed it lol. good price.

    • +2

I gave up waiting. Have had a 1080 since 2016. Just slotted in the 6700XT. Well worth the money, thing is performing wonders at 1440p. For this price you can't go wrong.

      • The 1080 and the 6700xt are roughly the same performance aren't they or marginal gains?

I'm still using a 1080ti, thinking about for 4080 if it gets to $1600 or so.

    • you could wait for the RX 7700 or 7800 but who knows when AMD will get off their ass and launch them. 7900 been out for like 6 months already and they only just launched the 7600.

      • Or… just get a 6700XT and wait for the next generation of cards (or keep your current card). I doubt it is worth waiting for 7700/7800. Even AMD knows this.

  • -1

Meh would've bought it for this price last July. Eagle is a trash model though. The Red Devil was $649 a year ago

  • +2

    Good upgrade coming from 1660ti?

  • +3

What's the deal with centre com? haha

    • +4

They can cancel orders due to pricing error or no stock. An OZBer arrived in store to collect an order, but store staff said out of stock (despite being e-mailed to collect it).

  • +1

God I need to upgrade from my 1060 6GB just not really cutting it anymore, not sure how much longer I can hold out tbh

    • I have 1060 3GB 🙄

      • I have no GPU

      • +3

The worst part is, the 3GB is weaker than the 6GB model by more than just the VRAM. If I had known before getting one 5+ yrs ago… Lol

        • the 3GB is weaker than the 6GB model

I know, even yuzu needs 4GB

          • +7

@superforever: What I mean is, the 3GB model of the 1060 has less cuda cores and clock speed than the 6GB model. It technically should have been a different model and Gamers Nexus called Nvidia scumbags for doing it.

            • +1

              @Beyond:

It technically should have been a different model and Gamers Nexus called Nvidia scumbags for

I bought it just because it was cheap

              • +1

@superforever: I paid like $330 for mine and believe the 6GB was $360.

                • +4

@Beyond: Can't remember, if only $30 I would have bought the 6GB version.

                  • @superforever: I spent an hour quickly googling the benefits of 6GB VRAM as I wanted to get to the store and buy my new PC that day (spur-of-the-moment decision, lol)

              • @superforever:

I bought it just because it was cheap

Donkey shit is also cheap, could have bought that instead.

      • You both need to stop HODLing. That time is long gone for 1060 owners. 1080 owners at least can wait.

        • +1

yeap 1060 sucks balls. I'm using 1060 6GB atm, even an ancient game like Warthunder i could barely get a consistent 60 fps. Fluctuates between 40-80fps mostly.

          • +1

@dukeGR4: sell it to me please. 1060 6gb is enough for league of legends.

            • @Skiippy: where you based lol? once my 6700XT is built i will be getting rid of my current gear.

        • I'm going to my grave with this thing

  • Too few in stock to post as a deal but if anyone's after a 6600 XT there is one for $355 + delivery at iShopTech

No retail packaging, but 3 year manufacturer warranty as with the packaged cards

    • NO RETAIL PACK, means returns ?

      • +1

Pretty sure it would just be OEM parts?

  • 4090 OOS

    • +2

      Yes, SkyNet buying them.

      • Only explanation really, as per your resident OzB HODL warrior no one is buying these. You can really see the effect of the OzB boycott reflected in Nvidia's stock price which is up a measly 170% since the turn of the year. Stay strong HODL-ers, you will show Jensen some day.

        • Most likely not many in stock to start with. Still sold out quickly which is interesting.

Should have bought nVidia shares. Oh well. 1 nVidia share is worth more than a RX 6700 XT 12GB GDDR6. Which one is a better bargain if you were to buy one today?

        • +1

Yeah because they're being bought out for usage in AI/ML scenarios since even the workstation versions of these cards are sold out due to every company jumping on the AI train. Your average joe in here probably isn't training AI.

        • -1

Video games suck nowadays, people aren't exactly missing out. If they had nothing better to do they'd just pay the rip off price and get bent over.

Almost all hodlers don't depend on gaming. I'd rather pull out my old N64 than play Harry Potter lol. It's more people buying them who are the suckers

  • +1

both 7900XT models are out of stock… good price, missed it :(

    • They will come back, AMD has plenty of Navi31 capacity.

  • Is this comparable to 3070? Does anyone own this card? would love a personal review

    • +1

Ninhhax Go to this site and you can see at a glance how good it compares to all cards. Best video card site ever.

      https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

      • +3

videocardbenchmark.net rates cards based on a single synthetic benchmark that's not that indicative of real actual game performance.

Tom's Hardwares video card hierarchy chart is more accurate.

YouTube videos by the popular benchmarkers are even more detailed, but take too long for a quick "roughly how fast is this" check.

        • +1

Thanks Gandalf. I'll have a look now

    • +2

Copped for $530 in another deal, arrived today.
Very quiet at load, at least compared to previous dual fan 5700XT.
In a couple hours stress testing, I had one crash. Running Linux so could just be OS weirdness. Much more stable than my old card at least.
Haven't owned a 3070 so can't compare sorry. I like using Stable Diffusion so was deciding for a while between this and the 3070 but the 8GB VRAM killed it for me.

      • This particular Eagle model, or another 6700XT?

        • This exact model. Happy to answer other questions.
Very happy despite missing this better deal.

          • +1

@flopsy: The easy take is 'everything runs on CUDA, AMD is miles behind in the ML / AI space' so I'm curious about how Stable Diffusion runs on an AMD card, and how hard it was to set up?

All that extra RAM isn't much use if you can't find GPGPU software to run on the cards. I've used Meshroom a bit for photogrammetry, for instance, and it's CUDA only (some stale forks aside).

Combined with the oft-repeated 'AMD are no good for VR' message, and despite the better value AMD offers, I'm still leaning towards nVidia.

            • @hughc: My wording wasn't very clear; I was considering the 3070 specifically for Stable Diffusion as I've had no luck with AMD setups and supposedly results are good despite the 8GB VRAM.
I decided the 6700XT is better value overall for my needs and I'm still pretty happy with cloud rendering SD.

  • 24gb! Far out, why do games need this much ram these days?

    • Lazy unoptimised buggy ports

    • Lots of reasons but in short, Consoles use more vram and Devs are refusing to spend more time on PC ports to make sure it fits in the 8gb limit… They also don't seem to give a crap about PC …

    • Last of Us, Jedi Survivor for a few reasons.
Productivity side Blender and Davinci Resolve love Vram.

  • +1

Just mine in that ebay plus sale. Great card. Great value. Use mine at 1440p and cannot be happier.

  • +1

    Hodl!

    • For what? The current crop of this low-mid range don't even look particularly promising. 4060Ti sucks value wise and in terms of advancement from 3060Ti, 7600 isn't so great either considering it received a price drop right out of the gate.

      • -1

        get 3070 when it drops

        • +1

          8GB? No thanks.

          • @OzBarAnon: worried about console ports? get a console. cheaper than chasing a future proof card. problem solved

  • Any bottleneck with i5 6400?

  • this will make you want to buy a 6700XT

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cfh5r0mAq90&t=323s

  • 6700 XT or RTX 3070?

    • Just mentioned in the YouTube it is comparable with 4070
