The queue of Teslas charging at shopping centres says otherwise…

@jv: ohh dear, you think tesla buyers are dumb :|
you pay only for supercharging , most of the ones in shopping centres are free , so are others which are community owned
            https://www.energy.vic.gov.au/grants/destination-charging-ac…
irony is , just like you, lots of people dont know it

              @urahara:

              you pay only for supercharging

you pay to charge at home too. electricity isn't free….

              • +2

@jv: You don't pay for charging at shopping centres…hence the point and I quote "Why pay when you get it for free"..cause it is free

                  @urahara:

                  cause it is free

                  It's not free…

              • @jv: it is in many locations in Queensland alot of places offer free charging. So yes it is free.

            • +5

@urahara: Damn the queues gonna be longer now that the ignorant people have been made aware

              • @aka nioh: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

              • @aka nioh: Should I unpublish it :|

                • @urahara: Nah I'll make it even better. NRMA do free charging until sometime at the end of the year.

                  Edit. For the NSW ppl

          • @jv: Plenty of shopping centers offer free charging mate.

      • Most if not all at shopping centres are not superchargers, they are destination chargers.

        • what is the difference?

          • +2

@jv: Good question, the ones at destinations like Shopping Centers are not provided by Tesla and are usually Free but SLOW.
Tesla have a SuperCharger network, of Fast Chargers that are easy to use, just plug-in, battery is pre-conditioned and primed for fast charging. But have a very high reliability rate. This is a key difference between say a Tesla EV and any other EV maker, and why GM and Ford decided to adopt the Tesla adapter.

Good info on supercharging network below. But most people won't actually use\need Supercharging, unless say driving from Sydney to Brisbane.
            https://www.tomsguide.com/reference/what-is-a-tesla-supercha…

PS: Old article there are now over 45k SuperChargers and growing at an exponential rate. Most will have arrays of Solar and Tesla Megapacks (above or underground). Tesla have also started opening up some of the network to other EVs.

            • @UltimateAI: 32amp is just the same as any home charger takes 3 or 4 hours to go from 50% to 100% big whoop you can get your shopping done in that time and go to the gym. getting free electricity is what make evs so good. DC fast charging isn't something you should always use its fast but not always good for the health of the battery long term. I only use DC chargers on long trips. But yes pretty soon Telsa will have alot of sell generating charging stations with alot of batteries underground with solar and other forms to generate there own electricity which will low the cost alot. GM and ford did deal with tesla for a reason because building a charging network is very hard and tesla does it well.

          • @jv: The end user often doesn't have to pay any money to get a slow charge is the difference.

            • -1

              @onlinepred:

              doesn't have to pay

              They do pay, just indirectly…

              • @jv: Yes you are right..They "do" pay, just indirectly..
Telsa fanbouys are just preferring to pay for electricity rather than oil or gas.

                • @urahara: Correct, at 1/10th the price.

                • @urahara: how do you explain off the grid setups dedicated solar with house batteries that can run the house off grid any time they want? 100% free electricity I know many people in Queensland that have this setup for their evs. never pay a cent. SOOOOOOo freee electricity!! But live in la la land and keep pay 2 dollars a liter lol. Untill you actually do you research you will never know how free electricity can be. Tesla or not all evs have the same ability to get FREE electricity.

                  • +1

@kungfuman: How much it cost to set up your dedicated free electricity? 30k?

  • +5

    A very tokenistic offer.
Supercharging is best reserved for long-distance travel. One should not consider Supercharging for their daily charging needs since daily Supercharging will reduce the life of the battery.
Buy EV but don’t buy for the “free supercharging”

  • What's the wait time for a Tesla these days? If you order one now can you even take delivery before 30th June?

If so, can I order 4 and stack the free charging for 12 months.

    • +2

instant delivery, they have lots of stock to clear.

Buy 4 today, what are you waiting for?

      • +1

In NSW Tesla have about four $90k Model 3 Performance available, Same for the Y except they have three or four other models.

So yes they have stock but I wouldn’t say lots if you don’t want a Performance and the insurance and other hassles with that.

      • but but but, all the Telsa shills were telling me they're having record sales and months waitlist a few months ago.

        • +3

It’s true but Tesla is cranking out the sales. A few months ago Tesla had two cars in the top ten.

The Model 3 and Y are now top selling mainstream cars. The 3 outsells the Camry and the Y outsells the RAV4.

          • +1

@Grok: No doubt it's selling cars and selling more.

My point is, they are producing much more than they are selling. Plenty of articles detail the rising inventory position of Tesla

            • +2

@cloudy: Isn’t that the point though? Ramp production to meet current and future demand? Carrying inventory ready for delivery is what other manufacturers are aspiring to right now. They just need to make sure they don’t overshoot which I don’t think they have.

              • @FrugalityMaximus:

They just need to make sure they don’t overshoot which I don’t think they have.

I wonder when you will think they have.

They over produced so much they discounted their cars I think 5 times since start of the year (in the us, different here due to low AUD). Musk also previously said he will never waste money on advertising and instead pouring that money back into development, but now admits he will need to start advertising.

Both advertising and cutting prices ain’t aspirational IMHO

                • @cloudy: That’s standard industry practice though. They’re in a different phase as a manufacturer now where they’re going to have to start to compete more traditionally, including advertising and cutting prices to meet the market.

I just don’t think it’s oversupply that’s the impetus. Particularly when they have vision and control of the entire pipeline and are uniquely placed to read sale demand.

(Also I’ll add, Elon is a joke and needs to hand off management of twitter and tesla asap)

            • @cloudy: The smarties are waiting for Highland.

          • @Grok: Well their biggest competitor in the US market has finally launched their Ford Mach E here in Australia so that would give the performance models a run for their money.

          • @Grok: Last few months the Model Y is actually the highest selling car in the world. On track to sell more than 1m this year.

      • those in inventory are more than likely cancelled pre-orders as people found out about the new face-lifted model 3 which will be out soon.

    • Depends on the model. For example, I was told yesterday that there are no Model Y Long Ranges available in WA until August/September. Plenty of Model Y Performances available.

A lot to do with the FBT/LCT threshold since December 2022 (i.e. the Performance doesn't qualify).

  • +1

How many powerbanks will it take to charge one when I'm out?

    • It will only require about seven Powerwalls to charge a Tesla Performance model.

      • I meant the Xiaomi ones.

        • +1

Yeah, I know, I was being facetious.

It would probably require something like 100,000 powerbanks.

          • @Grok: Will they fit in the back seat?

  • Lots of Tesla model Y sales are just the flippers upgrading from the Model 3. Model 3 sales are in the dumps and will likely drop price soon. If not, go buy a good condition used one for a significant bargain. I saw a ~$50k listing on Facebook for. 1.5yr old car (probably can squeeze them even lower as they seem desperate)

    • +4

Cars in general arent selling (cus of high interest rates). But you can definitely find a bargain on Carsales for Model 3s. Even some Model S are priced competitively especially considering they arent coming to our market anymore!

    • Note that the new battery chem was only in production a couple of years ago and it supposedly is much better. So pre-change, the cars are not going to be so much in demand.

    • +1

It's more the current gov incentives make is super appealing to lease an EV, eg: Tesla and pay Zero FBT, providing it's under the Luxury Tax Threshold for Energy Efficient Vehicles. This can be 8-10k savings per annum, which is TEMPORARILLY reducing the second hand value of EVs.

      • so is the model Y under the threshold?

        • +1

The Model Y base and Long Range are.

The Model Y Performance is over the threshold.

  • +4

A Tesla thread going about as expected on this site…

  • free charging for life of the car here

  • +1

Revamped Model 3 coming out end of the year! Production just started in Shanghai. Don’t buy yet!

    • +2

Who's to say the new one will be better? Seems each new update has cost cutting and features removed. I'd argue the late 2021 models were the best, especially if you got a unicorn SR+.

      • Why is that? What was better about those ones?

        • Bigger battery, kept the more powerful motor (and the 0-100 time) which has now been downgraded, upgraded CPU, heated seats and steering included. Also has all the ultrasonic sensors.

          • @devize: What more powerful cpu? Didn't the Ryzen upgrade come in 2022?

            • @MrMcHairyHead: I thought the unicorns had the Ryzen upgrade too but could be wrong there.

              • @devize: What does unicorn mean?

Looks like there were reports of it existing Jan 2022 so if you mean late 2021 shipped then yeah looks like you might be right. Interesting (I'm looking to buy a second hand model 3 in the next few months so this is highly relevant to me)

                • @MrMcHairyHead: Yes late 21 shipped had the higher powered older SR+ motor (from the performance) and the increased battery capacity.

          • @devize: Fair enough, looks like they used to do 0-100 in 5.6s, now it's 6.1s.

I'm surprised Elon "ok'd" that sort of downgrade, he's been the one pushing the whole "EVs can be fast too" since the beginning.

    • Lease for 12 mths with FBT exemption, then order M3 Highland later in the year for next 12 mth lease.

Highland will not be instant delivery.

  • It will be like LPG… get the fools hooked and no way back, then rocket the prices.

    WOOHOO!

    • +1

show me how they haven't done the same thing with petrol, diesel etc

    • +1

Except you know, being able to charge elsewhere too. Like at home…

      • +1

Like at home with Solar PV.

  • +1

If you live in Queensland I suggest you open up the plugshare app and see how many free tesla 32amp charger (not super chargers) there are. I have had my model 3 3 months never once paid for charging.

    • +1

Within few months there will be more EVs on road to fill up free chargers like honey comb

      • its not easy to find free chargers even with the plug share app, and most people don't know about free chargers, I know many people that just want to charger at home with their own solar and house battery setup. So it wil only fil up if people know about it.

        • Come to Melbourne west. People queue at shopping center free charger for tesla. I always find min of 4 model y/3 waiting to get free charge while sleeping in the car

          • @hopper: How is it using public chargers in Melbourne if you don't mind paying for them?

            • @MrMcHairyHead: Sorry, I'm a still a fossil fuel consumer who is waiting for a ev <$20k. Hopefully byd seagull will make my dream happen

              • @hopper: EV with FBT exempt novated lease will cost less than your <$20K fossil fuel dinosaur.

    • Weird I found it quite tiring to find chargers in Brisbane that were free, accessible, and not in out of the way places.

  • +1

Got enough eneloops to power my tesla tyvm

Clearing out the inventory before the highland model

    • No, to pump up figures before EOFY

      • +1

Unlikely, they are US based so their Financial Year is Jan-Dec. Other US companies are April-March, not to many use our Financial Year. July-June.

        • Tesla still pump the end of quarters, but I think it's likely the new model. They are clearing inventory everywhere of the 3.

          • @dtpearson: Yep exactly. Highlander LHD coming soon. RHD for us probably by years end.

  • -2

Make it 5 years Tesla and you’ve got yourself a customer. Oh and build a supercharger unit near me. But not too close. I don’t want undesirables hanging around.

  • -5

Don't support Tesla/Elon. Shitty company and terrible quality car.

    • -2

I agree that Elon is a douche, and probably would get a different EV instead of a Tesla for that sole reason. But I think the cars are mostly OK (though I think the one that looks like a Prius on steroids is pretty ugly).

    • -1

Yeah buy a VW ID car instead when they finally get around to selling one here, you can trust VW not to lie and cheat and kill people.

Or buy a Ford EV since they are a bargain! Ford are losing $60,000 a car! that’s US dollars 🤣

No? How about a Chinese company EV? Yah, China!

      • +1

        Username checks out.

    • +1

Don’t believe everything you read. The guy is clearly a nutter with a poor pull-out game, but heart has always been in the right place.
Open sourced all their patents, regularly offering assistance to competition.
Bloody hard worker who could have chosen a life of leisure.

  • And a few Model 3 Dual Motors (not Performace) in Qld - last time I checked they were in the low 80s, all the June 30 delivery models are now mid 70s.

  • -6

Not a deal. But an ad.

  • +1

Looks like they're really trying to clear inventory before they release the updated model 3/Y
