  • So many sales for the ps5 now. I hope the pro is on the horizon soon

    • +21

We don’t really need a pro. We need new games to stop being produced for both PS5 and PS4 to push the limits of what the PS5 can do.

      • +2

We're at that point. The supply of games developed for both generations is fast drying up.

      • +4

We need new games to stop being produced for both PS5 and PS4 to push the limits of what the PS5 can do.

This isn't a thing. There's no magical leap that will happen for PS5-only titles. HFW is the most gorgeous game on the console right now and it's cross-gen. Optimisation is far more important as seen by FF16's recent issues.

In fact, we're already seeing games struggle to maintain 60 FPS on the PS5's 2019-spec hardware. Performance is going to get much worse with UE5's widespread adoption. Visually sublime, but terrible performance.

A Pro with more horsepower is certainly desired by some of us. But it won't be till end-2024.

        • The HFW devs have spoken in interviews about how difficult it was to make it cross-generation. Most studios aren't going to be able to do that. And even so, the DLC is PS5 only. The devs have stated they couldn't achieve the large combat set-pieces on PS4 hardware

In short: bring on the PS5 exclusives. I'll be happy if we get more games to the standard of Demon Souls, TLOU 1 Remake and Ratchet & Clank.

And all games need VRR. I know not everyone has a display that can support it but if you're a framerate obsessive you will.

      • +5

yeah still waiting for 4k 60fps as the norm not 1080 with 60fps !!

      • +3

I think a slim is very needed tho.

        • +4

Agreed, the PS5 is comically yuge

        • check DIYperks playstation slim.

    • +1

These are barely sales, though, are they? This is pretty close to the original RRP isn't it?

IMHO but for COVID/supply chain blah blah/profiteering this thing should be $500ish by now.

  • its finally normalize the stock issues are not longer an issue finally!!

  • Is this considered a good sale? Been wanting to bite on a PS5 for the past year or so and missed the really good one on eBay last month

    • +3

The 2 cheapest recently for the disc edition are $624 and $649 resp. Both were via gamesmen on ebay.

Target / Amazon / Catch* have been around $699
      (*student beans)

Factor in other things like discounted gc's & / possible Cashback

  • +1

Surely staff discount doesn't apply to consoles?

    • nope

      • -1

Noted. Had no idea just thought of it as a possibility.

        • -4

Whoever you are maybe read the description before downvoting

    • +1

      Nope.
Gaming consoles are specifically excluded from staff discount.

  • +6

We've been spoilt with the $$600 (or was it $650?) WITH a game - let alone $725 wtf… Waiting for <$600…. ideally, $30.

    • +6

Yeah, even at this price it seems too much given all the recent sales. I’ll bite at $650.

      • I've got the Sony 100 off waiting till end of July, will wait till $600ish before biting.

        • +4

That was an eBay Plus offer and highly unlikely retailers will come anywhere close to that. The cheapest non eBay Plus price was Amazon at a touch under $700.

      • Yea to be fair, that was almost the price of the amazon pre order over 2 years ago hey. And back then if you sold your PS4 pro, you would get $400+ for it.

    • +4

If that's available now then sure, valid neg, if not is that really worth a neg?

      • +1

Given the recent sales with 2 control units, i think this price warrants a neg vote. If a game came with it…. maybe but not a stand-alone unit with 1 control. MHO

      • Well, I'm thinking like "it can be better, and it has been better… is not a deal anymore, doesn't deserve sales at this price anymore".

I mean, no offense to the OP or anything ❤

        • +1

Has been cheaper in the past is not a valid reason to neg a deal.

          Copy/paste from the voting guidelines:

          Appropriate uses of negative vote:
          -Cheaper price elsewhere
Ideally, mention store, URL and price include shipping (if applicable).

          Issue with product (For example:)
It does not work the way it should
          It has been recalled

          Issue with retailer (For example:)
Previous purchases were not received or the shipping time exceeded what was expected. Example 1 Example 2
Issues arose which were not rectified in a satisfactory or timely manner.

My point being, when you neg a deal people expect there is either a better deal currently on or there is a problem with the seller.

          • +1

@Duff5000: ok well in that case i abused it by accident, and i can't change my vote. Sorry OP but it wasn't personal again

    • -7

Got one for $650 with God of war the other week, this isn't a great deal.

      • +2

So if i want one now, this is a bad deal and i should just pay rrp?

        • -1

where did i say that? if you want one now, get it… but better deals have been and will be around again

          • +4

@KRiSX: Appropriate uses of negative vote
            Cheaper price elsewhere
Ideally, mention store, URL and price include shipping (if applicable).
            Issue with product (For example:)
It does not work the way it should

Issues arose which were not rectified in a satisfactory or timely manner.

If you suggest this is a negative vote deal, then you need to supply a better deal you can get right now, rather than suggesting you go back in time, or wait an unknown amount of time for another possible deal. People miss deals all the time, and some can't wait. If you are suggesting you can find this cheaper elsewhere right now, or that the seller has issues then let us know.

            • @onlinepred: Nicely stated. Neither of the two negs on this post seem to have any justification except for seen it cheaper in the past or should be cheaper in the future

    • Agree, pretty hard to call this a bargain at this point.

    • That deal was not from an authorised Sony retailer, would that affect the warranty? Or any service?

List of authorised retailers I am referring to is here: https://www.sony.com.au/microsite/wheretobuy/

    • I ended up buying a PC (through Ozb, ofc)
Video games have been crap lately. PC games not much better. And largely full priced for longer
Hogwarts legacy. eg. barely has any interesting mods yet, or DLC. I haven't enjoyed a (arcade) racing game since the MW remake.
Am I just getting old, or are games largely less captivating?
I don't think I'm asking for too much. I enjoyed RDR2 (not as much as RDR1) but never bothered replaying it once I finished. I'd have enjoyed it more with mods (hence the switch to PC). However, looks like more and more games are going single platform now.

      • +1

Am I just getting old, or are games largely less captivating?

I know what you mean. I think I am meant to be a gamer, but I don't GAF anymore. Could be an age thing. Once i'm playing, it's like "Oh this is fun…" but once it's off, it can stay off and I don't care about it anymore. PS5 collecting dust.

    • Well you saved like $30 + game by waiting 2.5 years to buy it.

  • +16

Good price but $649 GOW bundle is the benchmark now

  • Went to my local JBHifi, had 6 of each in stock

  • Still wondering whether that 22% Ebay+ Offer wasnt originally intended to include consoles.. that it going to be a hard benchmark to reach again.. but here's hoping.

    • +2

it's either that or jack was sick that day

      • +3

Yeah, $624 seems pretty damn hard to beat but only time will tell.

  • Never thought I'll say this but I want a pro that's black and smaller.

    • +9

      You're talking about a PS5 right?

      • +1

        Maybe basketball?

  • +2

FWIW people with Amex cards and the Sony spend $500 get $100 offer, get Sony to price match?

    • I did this for the last deal at this price. Enjoying my PS5 and Diablo 4

  • +1

My local JB Hifi matched this without any questions as my Big W was out of stock. Looking forward to FF16 in a couple days

  • +1

Got Gerry to price match the GOW combo for $799 then use the HN AMEX 500-200 offer to get it down to $599. Going to sell the game as well.

    • +1

Sell your old console too! I was able to sell my PS4 games I didn't play, ps4 pro, and claim AMEX at the time, I paid $50 for the PS5 disc on release by the end of it haha.
