    • How do you get PiHole to block SBS Ads?

  • Nice one. I had $13 of credits in my account, so this cost me about $5 👍

I've got some good lifetime subs from StackSocial over the years. Getflix for $35 (until they retrospectively gimped Netflix). CyberghostVPN for $85 (into year 6 now), and now AdGuard.

  • Does this work on Google TV? They aren't exactly ads but the home screen shows content for services not subscribed to, and these rent or buy movies etc. Could do without some of that.

  • Seems like family plan is still US$16. Can't seem to select personal (on the phone at least).

Still not that convinced it works on chrome browser, according to the app review comments (Adguard adblocker).

Designed for and have a choice from Yandex and Samsung internet.

As of 2019, Chrome for Android does not support any ad blocking extensions or apps. You can urge Chrome developers on adding support for AdGuard and other content blockers. To do so, visit Chrome bug tracker and upvote the issue.

I don't use Chrome, but AFAIK the whole point of this AdGuard app is that you don't need a browser extension, therefore the comment about Chrome not supporting adblocking extensions is redundant.

The app stops ads before the browser knows about them. The only extension needed in the browser (if at all) is the AdGuard Assistant which lets you more easily manage the app among other minor details, for e.g. https://adguard.com/en/adguard-assistant/overview.html#chrom…

Edit: browser extension referred to by AdGuard as a 'companion' extension

      • Yeah no worries I realise it's aimed to be a system wide thing, just noticed it in the comments a lot.

So would you still use ublock origin as well (and other browser extensions?

      • ps. the family lifetime sub of US$16 is still available, but not single (US$11). Not much extra but 3 devices would do me.
Still not sure if you can install on google chromecast but surely could side load it, then no need for kodi to remove ads on catchup apps (although I like the simplified format).

        • Do you know if this "Adguard " package includes "Adguard Content Blocker" as it shows as a separate product on their site.
Also having checked Chromecast TV, it only shows as Adguard VPN as a install option. That wouldn't block e.g.SBS Ad's as it's only a VPN if I am not mistaken.

          • @Borg: Correct would have to try sideloading it.
Anyway Kodi works well enough for that.

            • @G-rig: Or PiHole which is easier than Kodi. The SBS App on Kodi is touch and go on the Chromecast TV dongle (in my experience at least). Perhaps I will revist to see if it has improved in the last 6 months?

              • @Borg: I use Chromecast with Google TV and found it is fine.

Yeah I've heard about that. I've got a RPI4 but it's being used as my music streamer (voluimio).

          • +1

@Borg: Content Blocker is the free, browser based AdGuard and is inferior to the system wide app you would purchase in this deal. No need to bother with Content Blocker.

            • @pennypacker: Ublock origin is fine for that, and adguard DNS on the phone.

              • @G-rig: I wouldn't use either if using AdGuard for Android. Browser extension unnecessary, and filtered DNS loses the flexibility to tune your filters that you get with the app.

                • @pennypacker: Yes I don't have adguard app but obviously wouldn't use the other methods if so.

Pretty easy to turn the DNS settings off for the occasional cashback.

Id consider getting it, only the family option available, not the 3 device but don't need it anyway.
