Samsung S23+ 256GB + Watch5 fr $999 ($0 Cancellation of $49/M Plan), in-Store, Port-in / New Number @ JB Hi-Fi

1050

Deal ends 3 July.
Edit 29/06: I've switched the deal to the $49 plan as it's a 1 month contract instead of 24 months, preventing issues with cancelling the contract. You can still get a cheaper deal through the 24mth plans.
Edit 01/07: Confirming the $99 plan provides $1400 off an S23+ unlike the previous EOFY $89 plan promo, making the S23+ 256GB $0 upfront. Thanks @BargainsGrabber

The maths based on an S23+ 256GB (starting with the ticketed phone price, minus the phone discount for signing up to a plan, plus any plan cancellation fees) is as follows:

  • $49 plan: 1399 - 400 = $999 (no lock-in contract)

  • $69 plan: 1399 - 850 + 431.25 = $980.25

  • $99 plan: 1399 - 1399 + 766.67 = $766.67 (best value)

The title pricing takes the approach of cancelling the $49 plan immediately without usage. Works out to $999 (+$49 for first month if you use the plan and don't request a refund on that). Works out better value than the all-time Amazon low with the Watch. As with the S23 on the $49/mth plan you can either cancel early or continue your monthly plan, additional to any upfront cost of the S23 purchase in-store.

1) Get an S23+ 256GB outright - or 512GB for $200 more - by signing up to the JB "Upfront" plan in-store (port-in or get a new number, current Telstra customers are ineligible). You'll also have a pending charge for the first month of the plan as soon as you sign up.

Also try price matching Bing Lee for another $42 off

2) Contact Telstra and cancel the plan (CIS here.) Once the Telstra charge for the first month is no longer pending on your card, you can request they refund that if you haven't used the plan (don't install the SIM card). For the $69/$99 plans only, after cancellation you'll be billed a Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee of $431.25 or $766.67 respectively.

3) Redeem Galaxy Watch5 LTE 44mm from the Samsung Redemption website.

Is this for the 23plus or the Ultra?

    • Wondering about this too. Title says S23 base, then description mentions both the S23 Ultra and S23+ ..

  • Great deal , but can you validate if this actually works, and you're guaranteed to get a total price of $980.25?

    • +5

Check out the long discussions we've had on the TGG and JB deals for these Telstra plans. @GlobalCitizen had a deep dive in the T&Cs behind the Critical Information Summaries and is pretty certain about them being obtainable, because the CIS for the promo takes precedence meaning normal terms don't necessarily apply. Telstra chat reps have only been charging their "voucher repayment fee".

As for me, I cancelled a $49 month-to-month plan today and cancelled a 12 month JB/Telstra contract in 2020 for an S20 FE 5G without issue. Have also done the same at Harvey Norman/Optus for my S22 and S23+ if that's reassuring.

      • Wow, I got the good guys deal yesterday, and everything goes well.

    • +7

I realised a safer way to do it might be to sign up to the $49 plan (no lock-in, month-to-month) and get an S23+. That promo provides $400 off an S23 ($1399 - $400 = $999) and is $0 to cancel the plan (or $49 for the first month). $20 extra all up.

      • If I can get the Bing Lee price match then this is the play just to be safe

        • +1

I updated the deal to reflect this plan. Saves anyone from being messed around by Telstra when cancelling a long-term contract.

      • Are there any credit checks involved with this method?

        • +1

Yes, it's still a post paid plan, albeit one with no contract

  • Crazy good deal!

  • Lol how do you price match bing lee

    • I did to get an S23 256 for $749 today, and I've since redeemed the watch. Just ask :)

      • Price match with what

        • +2

Ask JB to price match Bing Lee?? As normal

          • +1

@Techie4066: I got it price matched with Binglee morning @ $1382 just before 9AM.

            $1400 off on $99/month plan

also cancelled Telstra service for $766.56

            total cost for S23 Ultra 256GB + LTE watch = $766.56+ $99= $865.56

I have filed a complaint to get $99 back from Telstra. Hopefully they will refund $99. If that happens, total cost would be $766.56. Plus I am travelling overseas so TRS - $128.00

            • @geojohn: Damn. Wish you posted this earlier

Funny thing is the $1400 off deal ended 2 days ago.

You just got lucky i guess

              • @easternculture: JB opened up at 8. I was there @8.05AM. I had to push them a lot to match to discounted price with promo code. Initially, they said NO.

Transaction was completed at 8.58AM. Binglee's promo expired 2 minutes after

                Wouldn't have helped :(

                • @geojohn: Thats why i said your lucky bc

                  • they dont usually price match promo codes
                  • the $1400 off ended 28/6
                  • @easternculture: No doubt! I am Lucky !

$1400 promo- Sales rep told me before I even asked. Looks like there is some confusion around the expiry date of that promo.

As per their catalogue, it was supposed to end on 28/06. Can not believe staff isn't aware of that? Managers were involved with my purchase since they had to price match.

      • so what did you do exactly because the binglee phones are outright aren't they? so why would they price match when this is for a contract

      • How did you go about getting the s23 256gb for $749?

I understand your explanation for the the s23+, but I'm afyer the s23 and $749 would be a great deal. Thanks

        • +2

I got this OOS S23 price matched
The sales rep was fine with it. Go onto Telstra chat and get the plan cancelled, then when the pending $49 charge goes through on your card, chat with them again and ask for that to be refunded because the plan was cancelled and unused. There's no fee because that plan doesn't require a voucher repayment.

    • Idk what you mean, used the watch active2, 4 and 5 and Apple Watch Series 7 & ultra, the 5 is my favourite out of all them :/

        • This offering has LTE and GPS, and utilises WearOS. Apple Watches also have a lot of functionality, but battery life necessitates you charging them every morning (assuming you want sleep tracking).

Amazfit devices also typically don't have SpO2, nor are they capable of things like a-fib tracking.

            • @magnitude: But is that a problem in regards to this deal? You're getting a phone for $980 (second lowest all-time price), the watch is just a bonus that can be sold for $250.

            • @magnitude: That's great, I think you'll find most people are happy with a watch that does the same thing but is lighter and can operate as a phone replacement with bluetooth personal audio, which is hitting its straps now.

            • @magnitude: You don't have an idea on how rhythm tracing works. The science behind afib detection when using the ecg tool is perfectly fine.

    • Have to agree - had the 2, 4, 5/5Pro. Never again, clunky UI, inaccurate health tracking and to top it off had the 4 and 5 randomly disconnect from my S22 and only way to fix was factory reset.

Have since switched to an iPhone14/ Watch Ultra and have never look back, you get what you pay for.

    • -1

What's the problem , your going to sell anyway. Anyone holding a gun to your head ?

  • +1

Actually the $49 deal looks decent too. You have to pay $20 more but looks safer to cancel.

    • +1

That's only $400 off the phone. Best value when applied to the small S23.

      • Indeed. But you don't have to pay the $431

        • +1

True but best value is $850 off the Plus instead of only $400

  • so no deal for ultra? guess im still waiting

    • Yes there is, check the deal example I linked. That's great value too. I only created this deal because there wasn't one related to these plans for the S23+.

    • +1

I can confirm this works for Ultra, will end up paying $1349 for the phone ($549 Phone + $800 voucher) (prices are 512gb)

  • +11

As an owner of a Galaxy S23 I cannot recommend it to anyone due to the 'banana gate' issue affecting most if not all of the S23/S23+. Whenever I mention it on /r/samsung I get downvoted into oblivion but it's true…

    • +1

      What's banana gate?

    • +2

Well you've convinced me not to get it. None of the workarounds are really adequate. They don't solve the problem. It's not just close ups, the blur is also visible in distance shots. So sad, I wanted a phone with a removable battery.

      • Yeah its shocking that their flagship model has a defect this bad affecting basically the entire userbase nobody is talking about it. Hoping I can trade it in for a Pixel 8 in the future

    • Does this also affect the S23 Ultra?

      • +2

        It doesnt.

      • Never buying samsung again, bought 3 samsung ultra 21 (different family members) and within 3 months 2 of them overheated to the point of shut off just from whatsapp video calling. Sent to samsung twice and they just say its “within parameters” whatever that means. Personally stuck with apple, not saying its better but if something is faulty samsung is useless.

        • I agree with you, the S22 series, particularly the base S22 (non plus/non ultra) was horrendous. Overheating and battery issues since day 1. The S23 Ultra however has been a major change in the right direction (can't speak on the base S23 or plus), where I feel I can comfortably use this phone for at least 3-4 years, especially with how good the battery life is, I can still expect much better battery life in 5 years on this phone that I'd expect on my brand new S22 a year back.

          • @harcle: It probably is a good phone as generally i hope the company dont lie about the specs. But its just the after service that pushes me away and why i warn people. I guess its good to waif 6 months before buying a phone from samsung to fish out any possible issues.

    • Yeah this is what put me off upgrading to it (even tested it on a demo unit in TGG and could see it). Saw an article recently on GSMArena that Samsung have recognised the issue and a software fix is in the works, but I'll believe it when I see it.

  • +2

EOFY deal ends tonight (28/6) though..
Otherwise I'd go and grab one on friday when I am off.

    • catalogue says 3/7/23?

      • +2

That's for the $49 and $69 plans. The $89 plan ends today.

  • Any deals on the 1TB version?

    • +1

You could ask to pay the difference (the deal is, take $850 off any S23). Check online for a lower price vs JB's ticketed price to see if you can get a price match.

  • So I got the S23 on $89 plan.
So $89 (upfront) + $766.xx (cancellation fee) . But then I got $250 jb hifi gift card and redemmed watch( still waiting)

    • Shouldn't the cancellation have been $431?

      • thats for the $69 plan, i got the $89 plan.

But for $69 plan, i dont think we will get a gift card

        • I've just signed up 2 days ago $69 24m contact with Telstra through TGG, chat confirmed I need to pay $431 early cancellation fee

If I manage to sell the watch for $250, I'll end up paying 69+431+$59(still owing to the) - 250(selling the watch)= 309 for the phone not so bad

  • +3

Browsing on my Note 10+ 512gb and considering purchasing a new battery to keep it going 🤣

    • +1

      Security updates?

      • +2

OneUI 4.1 and android 12. Using custom rom and rooted anyways 😂

    • Literally me now as well.. I've been looking at battery's but not sure if it will acutally help haha

      • +1

My local is $120 for battery and $65 for rear glass. I've changed glass before on this so might just go yolo and change both myself for sub $50. If you try you'll snap rear like I did so buy a rear glass as well 😂

        • +1

The glue on my glass has all ready become unstuck so I can just pull it off anyway. Looks to be about $48 shipped for a genuine Samsung battery online and just replace it myself haha..

          • +2

@adamshere: I've bought 2 x S10e batteries from FMAparts so far and from my observation, using magnifying glasses, the packaging, and using the s10e after replacement, it appears to be a genuine Samsung battery.

For S10e there is actually TWO variants of batteries, the genuine OEM one (which is what I got) is more expensive

Since you guys are doing Note10+
            FMA link here

My experience for S10e is getting the battery out was a terrible experience, there was almost no clearance for the battery cavity.. there's no pull tabs
Youtube guides say to heat the battery with a heatgun through the screen (!?!?)

My advice is to use a syringe and a needle tip, load it with rubbing alcohol, that just melts the glue down right away (for s10e anyway), and you'll need to wedge something flexible, hard and thin to dislodge the battery.

Once you can do that, it's very easy to replace an S10e battery (and by extension, Note 10+ should be very similar)

You can buy rear glass adhesive seals of AliExpress (assuming you didn't break the glass when you took off the back cover)

To get the back cover off a phone, heat the back with a heatgun in bursts, and then try to use a small suction puller to pull off a corner (gently), wedge a plastic card in there and you'll be able to run that card around the back glass edge (heat sections of it with a heatgun)

  • Any likelihood of this being extended?

  • If I just port out from the plan, would I need to contact Telstra?

Also, does credit check still requires these days? Haven't gotten postpaid for decades.

    • Yes credit check is required

    • I signed up on a new number so no need for porting in or out. But if it's your number, I'd recommend porting then once that's processed, checking with Telstra that the plan is cancelled. This is actually a pre-paid (upfront) plan, I believe there is a credit check but it's never been an issue for me at JB. Not so at TGG.

  • Wonder if i can use the 10% first responders offer tomorrow

    • +1

I just asked my local store and they said it doesn't apply with first responders discount

  • +2

there’s also usually a non advertised port in offer that is only for 1 month for $49. usually $300 or $400 off an s23 range phone

    • It is in this month's catalogue and I explained it here, unless that's something different?

      • +1

nope that’s correct. it’s usually just not advertised though, it’s been around since release of the 23 haha

  • +2

Isn't the good guys deal better? $1100 from the s23 series instead of 850 from JB?

    • Wondering the same thing right now. Reading the T&CS (which can be found here https://thegoodguys.sirv.com/Content/2023FY/HubPages/mobile-and-broadband-plans/wk50/49%20S23%20(1).pdf ), and if you get the Telstra Plan that provides you with $400 off instead at $49 a month, there doesn't seem to be any cancellation fees other than paying for month 1 of the contract.

    • That's this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/783839
That $69 plan offer ended today and the remaining $99 TGG plan works out to $1399 - $1150 + $766.67 = $1015 to cancel, which is worse. To be honest I'm confusing myself with all of these plans. So convoluted.

The system at TGG wouldn't let me sign up but JB's had no problem.

The T&Cs PDF for the $69 plan says the following though, which could be an error

The connection will entitle you to $850 off the purchase of a single handset from the
Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ or S23 Ultra range from The Good Guys stores

  • +1

So what happens if you cancel the telstra order, can we still get the watch as redemption might be ages away

  • Also JB has a new promo for upfront 69 they are offering $600 gift card. Cannot see the watch from the link just posted here

    • Where did you see this? In store? I can’t see it online.

  • Reading this on a note 9 and tempted as well but am going overseas in September so wonder if a better deal will drop so I can get the tax claimable.

It doesn't see to be asked but does this phone get locked to Telstra?

    • +3

no, pretty much every phone over $200 sold in aus is unlocked :)

  • +3

For those who already got the $69/mo good guys deal, it’s much better than this JB alternative as it was $1100 off any S23 vs only $850 off at JB.

Assuming you just want the phone and not the plan:

    • TGG S23 256GB & watch @$69/m plan
      $1249 - $1100 +$69+$431.25=$649.25
    • JB S23 256GB & watch @$69/m plan
      $1249 - $850 +$69+$431.25=$899.25
    • If you could sign up, I tried twice and their system didn't like me. Maybe this was because I tried to sign up to the $69 24 month contract at TGG instead of the $49 month-to-month plan at JB.

      • I ported out of a jb plan still under contract and back onto the TGG $69 plan all within the space of a few hours, without any issues. So it’s certainly possible, even if your number was with Telstra hours ago.

  • Oh damm the Ultra 1TB one isnt on this offer

  • " If you cancel or move to a lower cost plan then you'll need to pay a Voucher Repayment Fee pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term."

    hmm so it's not pro-rated?

  • Ok, i'm going to go do this now, however the good guys looks like that $1100 is only on the $99 a month plan and not the $69 a month plan as according to - https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/mobile-and-broadband-plans#be…

  • +3

just went to JB Hifi today and purchased the 256GB S23 Plus for $859.10 on the $49 one month minimum plan. This is with the 10% discount using the "first responders promotion" on today only. Will be cancelling the contract later today.

So total cost for the phone and Samsung watch will be just $908.10

    • Great price. I wonder if you can get the Ultra with the same $49 plan and just pay the difference in handset cost?

      • You can. I picked the S23 Ultra last week on the $49 plan, paying the difference in the handset cost. Overall came up to $1649 - $400 + $49 = $1298

        • +2

Yes. First respondent will get $164.90 discount today.

    • Know of anyway to obtain that discount without being one? I missed out on the $100 gift card offer last week and the discount jb hi fi cards

      • I missed that as well. But isn't the TGG deal much cheaper? I'm not near any TGG store so I took this jbhifi deal instead. See what evasive said in the last few posts above.

        • yea it is by $30, but id rather pay the extra for no hassle canceling contract etc
