$90 Cashback on OVO Energy The One Plan (Excl. QLD Ergon Network, WA, NT) @ Econnex via Cashrewards

120

This is my 1st deal, please be kind. YMMV based on geographical location. I am located in West Brisbane for reference.

To claim the cashback you will need to navigate to the econnex comparison website and sign up for the OVO Plan. You can either activate the Cashrewards cashback via activating the browser addon or navigating to the deal directly through CashRewards site. This cannot be redeemed directly through OVO afaik. Additional cashback awarded if you have Gas, however this is not relevant to me.

Last week they were offering $190 welcome credit and $90 Econnex.

But I believe they're not releasing new rates until 1 Aug.

then who knows what OVO's rates will be in a month's time….

I'm with OVO now. Got this in my email a few days ago

We're writing to tell you that your current rates will be changing on 1st August 2023.

We'll always give you at least 5 business days notice before any price increase takes effect and price increases generally only occur once per year.
        Your electricity rates explained

Rate description Old rate New rate
        Daily Supply Charge ($/day) $1.1623 $1.1525
        Anytime Usage ($/kWh) $0.2170 $0.2783
        Solar ($/kWh) $0.0700 $0.0700

I was with Ovo and recently changed to Tango. Tango currently has the lowest daily charge and Daily supply and usage rates are fixed until at least 31st May
2024 provided the network tariff code doesn’t change.
    Daily charge (¢/day)
    60.500
    Peak rate (¢/kWh)
    19.756
    Standard solar feed-in rate (¢/kWh)
    4.900

I changed because i received this email from them regarding rate changes.

    Your electricity rates explained

Rate description Old rate New rate
    Daily Supply Charge ($/day) $1.0753 $1.0814
    Anytime Usage ($/kWh) $0.2327 $0.2981
    Solar ($/kWh) $0.0700 $0.0700

    • wow that is a massive increase in the OVO rates - no wonder you changed

    • In Brisbane and I get this for lots of surrounding suburbs, "Sorry, it looks like we’re unable to service that location". Guess they might not be taking new customers?

As with any energy deal, people should check Energy Made Easy, enter their National Meter Identifier (NMI) and check which plan is the best deal for their area and usage. For me, it is ranked 1-3 for all of the family member properties I manage energy plans for (generally swaps places with Sumo and Globird). This is the Endeavour Energy network in Western Sydney.

So since the estimated bills are either the same or within $10 of each other, the cashback deals + the $100 credit from OVO (in 12 x $8.34 monthly increments over the first year) make OVO the best deal for my family. This may be different for everyone else.

Also, if you're not a Cashrewards loyalist and have accounts with ShopBack or TopCashback, they are currently offering $108 for electricity signups.

You should only go for cashback deals for energy plans if it already has the best rates for you. Don't go for cashback if it means accepting significantly worse rates over the number 1 choice that doesn't have any cashback deals. The more energy your household uses, the more you should favour lower rates over any "sugar" one off cashbacks or credits.

    • if you switch though any of above links to OVO will it still apply ongoing $100 credit ?

  • Can anyone confirm OVO revises the rate in August instead of July?

    • +3

Yes and I tried to get their rates and they wouldnt tell me.

Not signing up til I know what their future rates will be, they could easily just double and then I have to move again.

    • +2

can confirm they will send the email in July for rate changes in August

  • It's better to use a referral code as you get $120 credit (not $100) and the referee does too.

    • are you referring to the welcome credit and is that spread over 12 months as well?

      • +1

Yes, referral credit is spread out over 12 months. I don't actually know for sure if it overrides the $100 welcome credit (maybe you can double dip?) but either way it's clearly better to take $120 + gift a fellow ozbargainer $120.

  • Shopback have double this on top..well did a few days ago. I just got on the Origin $150 (4days)..time to go already by the looks.

I guess you just play the game.

As a single household and a sports fan I can't go past Alinta energy KAYO plan, which gives me a year of KAYO folded into my electricity bills which is worth $300 per year, I calculated I'm roughly paying $5 extra a month in electricity. This is also the second winter of not using a heater thanks to the Ozbargin $40 Oodie deal.

Energy Made Easy shows globird as best option for me. But since last days I am on hold for 2-4 hours at their 133 456. Nobody answers it. that itself shows how good they are as provider. will look for some other option :-(

  • Wheres the 90$?? dont see anything

  • I just signed up to OVO Energy via econnex (Cash Rewards site), and I signed up to One Plan but it didn't give me the option to select pre-paid billing/"bill smoothing"… Does anyone know if I can switch to pre-paid billing?
