Samsung S90C 65" QD-OLED TV + Samsung C450 Soundbar & Subwoofer $2547.20 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ JB Hi-Fi

790

If you want a 65" OLED, or 65" mid-range TV, this is a no brainer. This TV competes against the top of the line LG G3, while the S95C sits a tier above. 20% discount on the TV applies with any Samsung soundbar in the same basket.

Soundbar

The lone caveat is that it doesn't have Dolby Vision, but that's only a concern for some streaming services, and some blu-rays. As HDR10+ is a royalty free format expect that to improve over time, but failing that modern TVs process HDR10 to compensate and this one has way better colour volume to boot (90% rec.2020 vs 73% for LG WOLED).

Image quality wise it improves over the S95B by offering updated image optimisation and compensation, which improves longevity, but is otherwise the same panel and processor in a different chassis.

Enjoy!

Damn got one on Monday and it arrives tomorrow. Should have waited! Wasn't too concerned with no DV based on HDTVTest's review.

JB have a 2 week price guarantee. Just saved myself $399 on refund for the new tv I bought 3 weeks ago.

      • Excellent, thanks for the info.

    • +1

      what?

you saying c3 oled is better?

        • +1

Show working, because there's no testing data or reviewer of substance that I know that recommends the C3 over the S90C.

            • +2

@Golddigger49: I'm asking for a source for your claims, which frankly sound ludicrous. The C3 has its strengths, but overall gets walked over by the S95B and S90C, let alone the S95C.

                • @Golddigger49: Both of these links are last year's models, and your YouTuber clearly states the S95B is better than the C2, while both reviews picked the C2 because it was cheaper at the time of the article.

The reverse is now true, so what point are you trying to make here?

              • @jasswolf: I wouldn't suggest "walked over" is anywhere near a correct description. There are many factors and they are both very good. Maybe watching free to air on an S90C for example might test your patience But, both have their strengths

@hack: I think for the price tag, C3 should compare with S95C. As S90C is $600 cheaper currently.

                • @hack: Most people are watching FTA content in 1080p these days, so upscaling is basically identical, and that's not a long term issue. Samsung have opted to smooth that content more, but again we're talking low bitrate 720p and below.

HDR wise it's no contest, which is why they slapped MLA tech into the G3.

                  • @jasswolf: Like I said mate everybody to their own. It's not a w@nkfest it's a TV

                    • @hack: What you're putting forth is biased towards fairness, not a compelling insight into how to pick the better TV going into the future.

More content will be delivered over the internet, terrestrial broadcasting will update to codecs like AV1, and VVC.

                      • @jasswolf: I thought I saw a comment before that you said the s90c is being compared to G3..?

Without any "discount" factored in, I can see from Hardly Normal website that the normal prices for 65 inch OLED are:
                        * 65inch S90c = $4295
                        * 65inch C3 = $4295
                        * 65inch S95c = $4995
                        * 65inch G3 = $5295

I don't think anyone is comparing TV's that have 15% price variance, not when it comes to the two Korean brands who are always competing so heavily against each other. I have seen that the 65inch S90c is $600 cheaper than the 65inch C3, like you pointed out - maybe the reason is that not enough people are buying the Sammie & that's why retailers are discounting it even more to try to sell more? If retailers thought it was better than the LG, why do you think would they reduce the price by so much?

                        • @Coolhandlucas: People are researching online and finding RTing's longevity test which puts the S95B in an average light, but I don't think that reflects real world usage, and the S90C has improvements in that respect, with the S95C taking them further through panel improvements.

The key price difference right now reflects that Samsung are offering rebates to retailers (for other electronics as well), but LG currently are not. They tend to not compete directly through out the product cycle, until they're both on final clearance.

This is 2023 model…didn't expect these to come down in price so fast.

    TVs are the new potatoes

    • +1

Most frozen potatoes were expensive, in high demand and out of stock at my local Woolies recently for quite a while

  • This or QN90C?

If you want a 65" OLED, or 65" mid-range TV, this is a no brainer. This TV competes against the top of the line LG G3, while the S95C sits a tier above. 20% discount on the TV applies with any Samsung soundbar in the same basket.

What are you basing this on? Most reviewers have the S95C and the LG G3 neck and neck, HDTV doesn't separate them, Rtings rates them the same, digital trends doesn't pick a winner etc etc. The G3 and S95c both sit above the S90c which btw at this stage is using last years S95B panel.

Don't get me wrong, great tv and this is a great deal but I'm just not sure why you needed to state something that the guru reviewers aren't.

    • The S90C doesn't sit far behind that conversation, while the C3 sits miles behind. The S95C sits ahead of the G3 in real world content for HDR brightness, while having a larger colour volume.

Both have image processing quirks, but while LG has an advantage in very low bitrate content, you shouldn't be encountering that most of the time, nor as terrestrial broadcasting moves over to newer codecs.

      • +3

No S90C certainly sit's closer to them than the C3 which is basically a rebadged C2 at this point.

Worth noting though that the S90C doesn't come with the one connect box whilst the S95C does, that might matter to some people.

        • Absolutely, but I still wouldn't recommend it unless they want the extra longevity and HDR brightness the updated panel provides.

Be worth price matching at Retravision and then getting the 5% RAC discount. It's an amazing price!

    • Do they have stores in SYD?

Just bought a 65" qn90b from Samsung for $1650 last week :( someone please tell me i didn't mess up

    • +1

      You didn’t mess up.

    • Thats a great deal, could you give me the details? That's right around my budget

      • +1

Samsung emailed me a unique code for 50% off the 65" qn90b as a clearance special. Maybe email them and see if they offer it to you?

    • There’s a considerable difference between what you paid and what this is worth.

      • While i agree, i also paid $300 for a soundbar too. another $600 and i could've gotten this OLED. The price doesn't really bother me, i just want a GOOD deal haha

    • +1

I bought one too. In fact, I started the topic in the other thread.

Put this way, if you have a bright room, stay with QN90B, OLED works better in darker room.

  • Can you buy the bar & tv then return the bar unopened for refund? If so I’d expect you get the bar’s listed price less 20% rather than them pushing the whole package discount to a single item

    • I'd imagine they'd revert the discount, but there were similar deals last year if you want to check in on that.

Good for a spare TV, but surely you'd be able to sell it for the same price you pay.

    • +1

Not if they print on the docket as a bundle offer.

The relevant fields would be photonics, electrical engineering, computer science, and a slew of visual sciences and fields that borrow and overlap from that, but sure, we're the pseudo-intellectuals here.

    Price shows $2995.

    • Read the title, read the third sentence.

      • Ah. Thanks.

  • Was interested in the 2023 oleds and was looking forward to OLED doing better in a bright room.

My enthusiasm has waned since the reviews but the G3 is an improvement on that area.

Who would you recommend this tv to? Perhaps owners of c8 c9?

    • Anyone. The G3 barely outpoints this, and at 200 nits sustained with a 100% white screen, that's more than good enough for daytime/bright room viewing for most people's needs.

There's a slight tint when there's a lot of light in the room, but it comes through as mild warmth to the image. You're only struggling if there's direct sunlight on the TV.

  • Is this still buggy like last year's model?

    • Last year's model had almost all of its bugs fixed before this was announced, and the S90C obviously benefits from the tweaks and software optimisation.

      • So should not have any issues then? It was pretty bad when it was first released.. I would recommend to family who are looking for a tv but don't want any issues for sure

        • It was fine at launch, and most issues stemmed around PQ EOTF tracking in various HDR modes after it was found modes where accuracy was expected weren't delivering the intended result.

Those have all been ironed out, and I only experience minor menu sluggishness when pushing the TV (4K HDR apps, turning TV on).

  • Does anyone know if this comes with a wall mount and if it mounts flush like the G3?

    • No, that would be the S95C, which also comes with an improved panel and ports on a separate device.

  • Regardless of how good the TV is, that's a low-tier soundbar. Get yourself something better with a TV of this quality!

    • +1

      low-tier soundbar

      That's a tautology.

  • I can't get the price your getting.. I'm getting 3.7k…

    • Seeing the same as you, I do know Samsung's website offers expired today, but JB gave no indication that the deal would end. Marked as expired.

Well done to everyone who got an absolute steal!

  • Price error, didn’t get it in time

    • Is that what JB were claiming?

      • No, but I missed the ship, went back to rrp once it struck 12

        • Seems like the price cut was a Samsung offer that expired at midnight, while the 20% bundling discount continues until the end of the 12th.

Hopefully there's another sale offer on the S90C next week!

          • @jasswolf: Is that confirmed it’ll go on sale next week? Was considering the Sony x90k 75” + a7000 if not

            • @mrSnuffles: No, hence my use of the word 'hopefully'.

Prime Day is coming up though, so who knows what competing offers will be in eBay, and from other retailers.

            • @mrSnuffles: would pair with the q990c, currently got the x90J 75" with the q990b and it is fantastic - costs less than the a7000 on sale and comes with the rear speakers and sub + rated higher than the a7000

              • @me4president: one of the biggest things I want to utlilise is Samsung's Q-symphany or Sony's acoustic center sync which means you need to buy into the brand.
