      Did somebody say KFC?

      • +7

no - they're still mumbling and fumbling about their APP

        • +1

          Just playing hard to get

      • -4

They were better when they cooked with palm oil.

    • +1

      preach!

    • +3

I am not sure. If the price keeps going up, I will find it hard to swallow :D

    • Worst

  • -6

    $0.75 per 100g

    Waiting for Amazon match

  • +53

Lol, $8 for thinly sliced potato.

Chip companies are taking the piss.

    • +13

I think you might be a wee bit overcritical. These are seasoned with the finest Spanish jalapeños

      • +6

        Bahaha

        Fair point.

        • +4

I sure hope Kettle seasons them with jalapenos, not with piss…

    • -5

      Make them yourself then?

Oh, that's right, you can't be bothered.

      • +12

Amazing, this terrible argument can be applied to almost anything and sound as ridiculous! Vegetables too expensive? Grow your own. Builders too expensive? Build your own! Doctors too expensive now that bulk bill no longer exists? You guessed it, time to perform your own operations. Almost like time, skills, etc specialisation is the instinct part of the reciprocal society. And almost as if scale of economics means chips shouldn't be this expensive.

        • -8

Amazing, this terrible argument can be applied to almost anything

Right? And yet here we are choosing to cherry-pick the things we complain about.

"This commodity I really like and want is way too expensive, but I'm too lazy to create it myself, so I'm going to whinge until I can purchase it cheaper or better yet, get it for free!"

          • +5

@magic8ballgag: The choice to defend price gouging and blame the customer for not producing their own version is an odd stance.
Additionally you may wish to learn what cherry picking is. I'm not suppressing any evidence. There are currently no food companies not gouging the market. A monopoly controls fresh produce and a duopoly controls food distribution. This is not a healthy market, it's an anti-competitive one.

            • @[Deactivated]: Nailed it!

            • -4

@[Deactivated]: Yes, this is the world we live in. Get used to it or change it, complaining about the price of chips on some website isn't going to do much.

I was referring to Drakesy highlighting the cost of the ingrediants to make this snack, yet they are happy to submit deals on overpriced puffer jackets and hipster shoes sold by companies that are doing the exact same thing.

A bit contradictory, don't you think?

You're all getting upset about a company that has found a way to make a profit on a food that we are all capable of making, that's the real joke!

          • +1

@magic8ballgag: Good luck with that !

          • @magic8ballgag:

"This commodity I really like and want is way too expensive, but I'm too lazy to create it myself, so I'm going to whinge until I can purchase it cheaper or better yet, get it for free!"

biggest straw-man of the day. all OP said was 300g of potato isn't worth $8, your head-canon filled in the rest.

            • @ssfps: You must be lost, you're posting in the deals section (you know, where members contribute to the purpose of the website), the forums are here.

    Seriously overpriced!

    • +16

You get what you pay for… after gift card discounts, point hacks, multiple accounts, and shoplifting

      • +5

I kinda wish I did shoplift, when I look at the total at the checkout.

        • It might help to convert it to Turkish lira — if you need some more encouragement to give it a go

          • +2

@tharlow: Roughly 4 months of gamepass

            • @Aysee: Those who subscribed to the 36 month Turkish Xbox Game Pass and saved ~$500, can afford to spend the saving on over one hundred packets. Yay!

      • +3

You get what you pay for

Rather "you pay for what others get"

    • $4 for 300g sounds almost right.

    • +3

      $26.67 for 1kg of potato!!

      • Lol. Makes the eyes water when you think of it like that. Wasn't so long ago that ~$1/100g was my benchmark price. Now not only have prices skyrocketed, but pack sizes have continued to shrink.

    • +2

      Isn't life the same ?

  • +28

IMO the Aldi version of these chilli chips taste way better, would recomend them instead.

    • +2

is it the Blackstone brand one? I thought they only have sweet chili one?

      • +1

        Yeah blackstone chilli.

    • +1

I find the aldi ones to be hotter than these ones

      • Chuck in some chilli powder n shake shake shake

    • almost impossible to find the aldi ones though. need to go to an aldi in a suburb with less diversity.

    • +1

Similar ALDI version is very spicy. But their sweet chilli sour cream version is good.

    • +1

Second this. And always available @ $2.99. The hard part is finding an Aldi with stock.

    • I do like the Aldi ones but in my opinion the Kettle chips just shade them. It's all subjective and I'm glad I have the option of both.

      • i think there changing to being made by Pepsico/Smiths soon so wont be as good as current supplier. think Smiths are quite bland in australia compared to Lays/Walkers.

  • +19

$ 8 for pack of chips sounds criminal

    • That's why we buy them when they're $4

  • +3

This is slightly cheaper than Costco's 650g for $10 standard pricing

  • How spicy are these? Only a bit spicy/numbing?

    • +3

They have reduced the spicy level on these dramatically

      • +4

The OG chilli flavour was something else

        • Is there anything else out there similar to the OG chilli flavour?

          • +1

@dazzles: Nothing even close so far as I’m aware.

The og were so hot they were a total outlier.

I tried to get dates for recipe changes from the company once (they’ve dialled back the heat several times) but was told the company’s been bought and sold so many times it’d be near impossible to nail it down.

          • @dazzles: Yeah. I miss the heat of the OG.

          • +1

@dazzles: I dust original flavor in chilli powder, even better with home made chilli powder from powdered dried chillis. Not quite the same but better than what chilli flavor is now in my opinion

        • +2

I have fond memories of 2004, chasing the OG chilli chips with a coke and sucking down a winnie blue for dessert. Take me back

          • +1

@dazzles: These were released in the 90s

Super-hot recipe only lasted a few years

            • @0jay: Anyone else a salt+vinegar fan? I know it's not chilli but I've been addicted to the peckish s&v rice crackers last few months, I buy up when they're half price. They're really strong and moreish, but if you eat a whole packet the next day mouth feels like it's peeling off.

Flavour seems a bit variable even between rows but sometimes you get a few that blow your head off. That's the luck / risk you take when chasing the flavour hit I guess ;)

              • @fleetoiler: I only buy the 10x snack-pack bags of chips these days.

It’s the only way I can keep myself from getting through 165gms before realising it’s happened.

      • +1

Probably some idiots complained about its being too spicy. I missed it when it was really spicy instead of what we have now

      • Maybe your spicy tolerance has increased dramatically?

        • +1

          My tolerance’s dropped

I still like stupidly hot food but it makes me hiccup now so near impossible to swallow

    • +2

If you have an average Brit's palate these are on the upper level of how hot you'd want to go

If you get medium or hotter at Nando's you can handle it

  • +3

$8. I'll plant my own potatoes thank you very much

    • It might be the frying that is the most expensive step

      • +1

I'd heard that all potato chip prizes were crazy not just because Coles are fisting us but because floods over east blatted the spud harvest.

So of course that means the prices will come back down next year when there's a normal harvest /s

If I'm spending ~$5 on a pack of chips now I tend to look at lentil, corn or some other awful, terrible, healthy substitute just because I won't pay that for spuds.

        • the price never comes back down brother

    • No you won't.

  • Lunch sorted.

    • Don’t forget to share!

  • +7

    "share" lol good one

    • +2

I swear Nestle would save a bunch of money if they didn't make those share bars resealable. Guys, no one reseals them

  • Best price in a while? Last year I purchased 12x175g for $25 on Amazon. Haven't seen it at this price since!

  • +1

I've seen some places list these at $11
How good were those record profits tho

  • +6

My body is loving this "new depression". No booze, no junk food. Just basic greens and non red meats from the farmers market.
    BOYCOTT COLESWORTHS!!!

    • Meat? What extravagance! The times of bread and water are well behind us

    • -1

      Wut.

    • Why no red meat

      • +1

The price seems to inflated the most and an old wive told me it contributes to cancer more-so.

  • +2

    300g is for sharing? Wat.

  • -1

None of the 3 local Coles in the Northern Suburbs had them in stock last time they were this price… Get in quick!

  • +1

Amazon match so I can buy 100 bags.

  • A lot of profit gouging going on here if the regular price is $8. That is insane.

  • +1

Which Coles actually stock these? My 2 locals don't

    • Your third local one.

  • Not as spicy as it used to be
