Sony's slim console revisions are usually cheaper, and often cut down.
PS2 -> PS2 Slim was cheaper, but they removed some features like the hard drive bay and i-link (firewire) port.
PS3 launch -> cheaper PS3 without PS2 hardware, card reader and less USB ports -> Slim -> Super slim with manual disk bay

When an almost 3yr old console is going on sale for its original launch price I'd say that yes the price went up on it.
It's roughly halfway through the consoles lifespan now and we're not seeing any aggressive discounts.

It's actually 15% bonus value not 15% off so it comes to rounded to the nearest cent $607.83 which is around 13% off
$600-$650 is the cheapest this console will get.
It was down to $623.96 on eBay 6 weeks ago, i dont think another ~$24+ drop past that to get it under $600 is that unreasonable to anticipate.
Considering EB Games trade in value is probably around 400-500 (depending on promotions) I think it'll be a stretch to get it sub 550. Maybe sub 600 is possible.
My disc Ps5 has stopped reading discs about 2 years in and out of warranty… Anyone have experience getting a repair?

There are no hard and fast specifcs for number of years a prdocut should be reasonably covered out of warranty by consumer law.
I would suggest that a high end game console designed and sold by a company with a long held reputation for quality in electronics and sold at a premium price should be expected by a reasonable person to last more than a measly 2 or so years without significant failure.There are a thing called Minimum Voluntary Warranty for some stores.

I only do up to PS3/Gen7 console repairs and haven't looked into PS4 onwards.
I'd try an ACL / warranty claim like DryScissors suggested.
Otherwise, for a console this valuable, I wouldn't try opening it up. Instead, find a console repair shop or sell it online stating the issue (I'm guessing you'd get a lot anyway since there's a no-disc version for this generation) and buy a new one.
Sony disc drives have been shit since PS3.
I hope the rumoured external disc drive is true. Upgrading ASAP.
