I should have known this was coming. Bought 2 yesterday. Paid more and less cashback. Tried to cancel the order but I’ve got to wait to see if they can cancel it.

    • +2

      Refuse delivery

      • How

        • +1

Just contact Amazon and ask to refund difference. They are pretty good for that, you won’t get cashback though

          • +2

@fozzie: I've had Amazon refuse to refund difference more than once. They told me to ship back and re-order.

    • +1

Just order again and you can return the original order.

      • +3

Unable to buy again unfortunately. It won’t let me buy more as it’s limited to 2 per account

        • +1

          Use your other account. Simples.

          • @Muzeeb: Another subscription lol ?

            • +1

@G-rig: Yep. Just for 1 month. Still be ahead.

              • @Muzeeb: Keen..
                should return originals
not saving if buying a heap of the things..

  • +3

    bought 2, thanks

  • +1

Bought 2, hope cr pays up without having to follow up.

  • Any benefit getting this if you have a smart tv? I have a Hisense 4k smart tv but it's just the lowest end model.

    • +3

For me - VPN, better browser, kodi.

      • How good have you got kodo on this. I feel I struggle with the Chromecast but happy on the Xbox.

        • You can install third-party apps on the Firestick using an app. I assume that's how. I run Steam-Link and Kayo on mine. Mind you, steam-link has a bit of input lag so only really good for turn-based games.

          • @Rochie: Kayo is now available without side loading.

            • @boxall: About time they adapted the devices for Australia. You shouldn't have to sideload apps like that and binge these days lol.

            • +1

@boxall: Well it's about damn time.

      • Hey, have you got a guide how to setup Kodi on firestick?

I ordered a 4k max from this deal and have read up on Kodi based on your comment and would like to set it up.

    • +2

yes, the built in casting is slower than these sticks, and get no updates

      • Thanks you two, ordered!

    • +4

You can install SmartTubeNext for ad-free Youtube viewing.

      • +1

While you there install TeaTv app . Higlhy recommend. Works really good on Fire Stick.

        • +1

          From where you got it?

    • +2

I have the same old Hisense 4k TV. With this stick, it’s whole different experience trust me. It’s so fast now better display and it’s so responsive now. Must buy specially at this price.

    • I also have a low end Hisense 4K TV. I found the video quality is much better with this TV stick than with the app in the TV.

  • I already own one, bought one a few hours ago with 15% and hopefully $5 bonus. This will work out cheaper overall, but I don't think I need 3 firesticks in total.

  • +5

Thanks OP, great value but probably will pass this time
Already got more TV sticks than TV at home LOL

  • Bought 2 @ $49 each from previous deal, now I can't get this deal. Will Amazon refund the difference? I already received them yesterday.

    • +1

Just order again and return the last order

      • Are Amazon returns simple?

        • Amazon returns are really simple from past experience. My only issue is I can't order again due to the per account limit.

I just spoke with customer service, they just sent out two replacements, no charge! Can't complain now! 4 firestick 4Ks for $98!

          • @NoApostrophePlurals: Any chance you can share your chat with me via PM. Have the same issue.
            Thanks

          • +1

@NoApostrophePlurals: Wow nice. Even better deal!

            • @Chivalry: I'm kinda dubious the rep actually did what they said, as I haven't gotten any emails about replacements being issued. Nor am I certain that I can just ignore the retuen labels and not be charged for them in the future!

          • @NoApostrophePlurals: What do you mean replacements..
            How many do you need?

            • @G-rig: I bought two for $98. Then a few days later there's a further $17 off. I asked for $17. The rep decided to send me two more instead. I'm not gonna refuse that.

              • @NoApostrophePlurals: Pretty good score. Guess it was their unofficial version of price protection to save ordering more and sending back (which you couldn't anyway).

Annoying the cashbacks keep getting better since start of yesterday too.

Doesn't hurt having a spare and selling/gifting one. I got a second google TV sitting there but can leave it in a travel bag (got a new one a while back due to an odd bug but the new one seems better)

      • It won't let me order again. 2 unit max per customer I think.

    • Just contact Amazon and ask to refund difference. They are pretty good for that, you won’t get 20% cashback though

  • +2

Is this better than chrome cast? Good to replace the og chromecast

    • +3

If you have the OG chrome cast this will be way way better

      • does it work with Plex media server?

    • +1

One of the main reasons I like my firestick over chrome cast is browser tbh, which then means I can stream from many sites that don't have chrome cast. VPN and kodi etc are bonus.

      • Those streaming sites have a lot of ads and pop-ups which can make navigating and playing content difficult. Can the browser run an extension like uBlock?

      • I've never bothered with a browser on tv based devices, always rubbish compared to desktop or phone.
Even with a couch kB (I've got a loogitech k830 connected via bt).

    • +1

Yes, also runs Android, can even run Retroarch for some emulation

I prefer the remote too as it’s less slippery

    • +4

The UI on current model Chromecast is way ahead of Firestick. The Firestick UI is like going back in time

      • Yeah a lot cleaner and easier to use.
I've looked at some reviews and the Amazon homepage is a jumbled mess. Now they got all those sub-subscription services too.

    • One problem with firestick:

I have had 2 fail where they boot into recovery like this: https://in.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D56Q0000BRbUOeSQN/my-…

The problem is the remote works via BT and BT isn't on in recovery. There is no way to interact with the device to change options and tell it to reset.

The chromecast can have the exact same issue but there is apparently a physical button on the device to interact with it in recovery. (something like short press to chance option, long press to select)

That said, amazon support have been fine and replaced it both times.

      • So you can't do a system reset or anything? That's pretty annoying, guess if they send you our one next day it's a solution, pretty ridiculous though.

        • Nope its a frustrating oversight.

I have seen the same error on fire tvs (tv with built in fire stick essentially). On those you just use the buttons on the tv to select reset. Chromecast as i said has a small button to select reset. These have nothing.

Even connecting a USB keyboard has no key combo to move or select options. In hindsight maybe i should have tried a mouse? Amazon support had no suggestions though.

You can return anything from prime, as you drop it at the post office they scan it, pack it and send it and as it leaves the PO you are refunded. Select credit to amazon account and its same day $$

    • -3

You take your opened amazon package to the post office. They then repack it and give you a refund??
The aus post worker checks your product to see if your returning the right thing? Like they work for amazon?

      • +1

Nope. They literally just scan the return barcode and take your package for processing.

        • Free returns are great. Dead easy, you get an email with barcode, po scans and even prints out the label, have done heaps of times and couldn't be easier. Get the refund same day usually.

  • +1

Any deals on the cube ? Please

    • already half price - well worth it IMO

  • -2

I bought 2 4k fire tv from last year’s prime day for only $69. Inflation is no joke.

I shouldn’t made that purchase because I now have 2 opened and 1 unopened fire tv that I have no use for now…

    • +1

I bought 2 4k fire tv from last year’s prime day for only $69. Inflation is no joke.

But this is approximately $58 with cashback.

      • Oh that’s true, there could’ve been a similar cashback rate from cashrewards last year as well?

    • They make great gift ideas.

    • Yup, I bought 2 last year for $69 not including cashback and also 1 a bit after that for $34 not including cashback.

    • -1

      Who negged me :/

  • is this work with echo dot 3rd gen?

    • +1

No it's not, you can't use dot 3rd as tv speaker, I've tried already

      • can echo dot 3 control firestick via voice command without using the remote?

        • Yes for voice. Mind you the remote has a microphone.

I have also in the past set a Dot as the tv speaker via Blutooth. Use case being an asleep partner while I finished a show playing from the bed side table. Not sure if feature still available

  • Can this view regular free to air tv or only streaming services?

    • +2

Have to get an IPTV app

      Url TV
      https://www.matthuisman.nz/2019/01/live-au-iptv-channels-on-…

Works on Google TV anyway. Heaps more channels.

      • +2

Firestick does not have the IPTV app. You will have to change your device region to US to get the Firestick Live app which you can then configure for free to air. I have this setup on mine.

        • Oh right was just guessing you had access to the Google Play store, or could sideload it.
Sounds like that may do the trick then.
(Don't have a firestick just in the Google Ecosystem, but for $40 amazon device would suit people that needed something, or $54-70 for CCwGTV).

          • @G-rig: Unfortunately no Google Playstore and you can't sideload it. You can only use the Firestick App Store or use the Downloader app which is used to sideload available apps.

Did lots of research earlier this year and the changing of region is the only working solution to get free to air for the Firestick. Works well enough.

            • +1

@JaeTee: That's not true. You can sideload the 'Tivimate' app. I did it myself, then you just import Matt H's .m3u playlist for your city and the EPG (electronic programming guide).

              Playlist URL: https://i.mjh.nz/au/{REGION}/kodi-tv.m3u8
              eg. https://i.mjh.nz/au/Sydney/kodi-tv.m3u8

              EPG URL: https://i.mjh.nz/au/{REGION}/epg.xml.gz
              eg. https://i.mjh.nz/au/Sydney/epg.xml
Above EPG url is in the Playlist so usually is auto-detected

Then away you go. App has it's own logo with 'TV' on it, and works a charm. I just input Brisbane (on the Gold Coast) and haven't had any dramas. You can subscribe to TiviMate Premium, which is a small fee (from memory like $10) and that gives you the ability to record to a usb drive, additional favourites and other bits and pieces. I got that, as I have 2 Firesticks, therefore it just makes things easier.

But yeah - don't have to change region or anything. This works perfectly fine.

        • might as well just change the source to tv…

i was just seeing if it was all in one for convenience

          • @Poor Ass: Not everyone has an antenna these days but most have wifi.

        • I was not aware of this. I thought it was all handled inside the Kodi architecture without going to Play Store.

On a scale of 1-10, how difficult is it to get IPTV AU running on the Firestick. I am a regular watcher of news/programs from other states using Matt H's Kodi add-on.

    • Load Kodi, it's in the app store.

Then install the kodi IPTVSimple addon from https://github.com/kodi-pvr/pvr.iptvsimple

  • I remember selling my second stick from last year's deal for $50. Should I do the same again this year?

    • Why not?

  • bought 1 from officeworks last night for $48, fml.

  • If you used topcashback yesterday it works out as almost the same price. $48 minus $10 cashback bonus on sign up plus $5.28 regular cashback (works out $32.78 total) for one unit vs this deal $31.55 each after cashback. Also if you referred someone using a burner account you get a $30 bonus for the referrer.

  • when i go to the link it does not show two devices but only one,, when I add two devices price goes to 96.00 … am I doing something wrong here ?

    • +1

When you go through to cart it’ll show the discount

      • Thank you

  • Do people have both Amazon Fire TV Stick and chromecast or it is one or the other?
