It is alot of money but knowing for sure that your planned (we plan one year ahead) holiday will go on without delays or cancellation especially if you travel with kid is worth much more than that. Sure SQ will have delays etc but you're in much better hand than JQ. Used to fly with JQ and QF years ago but not any more.

        • You've got a good point

        • I have travelled JQ to Bali and Tokyo this year without issues

    • I’m having a look at SQ fares and can’t find anything close to that? Where and when would you have to fly from to get those fares?

      • 5 - 18 March, MEL-HND-MEL

  • +2

As someone who spent two days stuck in Kansai airport forced to sleep in the terminal insub zero temperatures without a blanket and not given proper food or water I say never again.

    • +1

wow that sounds terrible….i wonder why they didnt offer accomodation or something?

      • +2

We had technically left the country and jetstar refused to cancel the flight just countinuously delaying until they finally cancelled it later on.
Countries will typically only let you re-enter if the flight is cancelled, causes probelms for customs and their systems.
Once we were finally allowed to enter they cancelled our exit rather than allowing a new entry.

  • +3

Just got back and miss Japan already

    • book again like in 2 years time. something to look forward to.

      • good idea, i try to go once a year around June

    • I just got back a month ago and jumped on this deal for April next year. At these prices why not go every year.

  • +3

No thanks Jetstar, horrible service, flight delays/ cancellations and tiny planes.

  • +4

Anyone else having trouble with the Jetstar website?

I’m stuck on the search flight button…

    • +2

yes i think they are having server error

  • It seems the sale's periods listed are the periods where $0 return's might be, just to be aware. I booked a flight over outside of the sale's periods listed but still got a $0 return. Checkout didn't work on Firefox but was able to book in Chrome

    • I did something similar. Managed to book over school holidays. Just had to book the $0 return for slightly after school starts again.

  • +1

I have an existing booking MEL > NRT return within these sale dates. The same trip is now available less than half the cost I paid due to the free return flight. I called but Jetstar refuse to change my booking, refund/credit to enable rebooking with the discount, or provide any other value to compensate for this. Very annoying

    • +3

Did you get a flexible fare? If not its tough luck sorry.

      • I didn't. Our schedule was not changing so the additional cost wasn't justified. Oh well

    • That's why if I am not that flexible with the travel dates and had to secure the flight early I'd never click links like this once I've made the booking.

  • The fact that is now direct from BNE, and the return flights are cheaper than going to Tasmania, really puts it in long weekend territory

    Still, is Jetstar….

  • +1

why no direct flights anymore from Sydney? is this normal now?

    • +2

Jetstar have never done direct flights from Sydney to Japan, always via Cairns

      • +1

        Or Gold Coast (OOL)

        • They used to fly Sydney to Osaka direct, probably 15 years ago.

          • @JoelT: Yep. I flew Brisbane to Osaka and the flight was Brisbane to Sydney (as an international flight) then Sydney to Osaka. Back in 2007

      • They definitely did. I've flown it. I believe it was an odd loop where it went back to Sydney via Brisbane from Osaka.

        • Brisbane was a smaller market back then.

    • +1

The direct flights from Sydney & Melbourne were ended about 6 years ago and returned back to Qantas

      • Oh right! Before my time

  • i have membership. can you book your other members of the family even if youre not flying with them?

  • +1

I'm still getting internal error when searching for flights, happening for last hour, tried various browsers with same result :(

    • same….been like this for couple of hours

  • anyone managed to book in the last hour or so?? How did you get around the problem of cant login? I kept getting this error after login 'Sorry, we can't log you into your account at the moment. Please try again later.
    "

    • Same here, I also can't login into my old account, so created new account today which I can sign-in into but I prefer my old account as that's my preferred email id..

    • On the log in page, click "find password" then reset it. It should let you log in after.

      • thanks tried that but still no go, had to create a new account and book instead… :(

  • Anyway to get the opposite?
    Japan to Australia return?
Do jetstar ever have these deals

Booking Jetstar is like gambling, just did the Japan trip with them from Sydney with Cairns stop over.

Going there was relatively OK besides the short transfer allowance time of 2 hours - where you need to get your luggage from domestic and move it to international yourself and go through security again, coming home was a nightmare.

Coming back , my Cairns to Sydney flight got cancelled, and I only found out after landing in Cairns. Got put on an afternoon flight with no where to go but had to wait 9 hours , the afternoon flight then got delayed by another 3 hours. The flight also had 1 extra too many passengers as one of the seats were defective.

If I had to do it again, I would pay the extra to go a non budget airline - will be worth every dollar to not fly Jetstar.

    • yes, I'd say this deal is 100% you get what you paid.. the saving is tempting but the experience is nearly terrible

  • +4

Just a quick reminder that Jetstar is point to point airline.. so you have to do the baggage transfer and check in again for the next leg. Keep good interval between your flights..

I found this hard way.. had to change our booking cause of it.

  • Noooo i just booked again :(

  • Has anyone managed to book in the last hour?

    • I did it, 4h in the future of your comment; BNE-KIX RT $285 x3 in June.

Genuine question, anyone else who booked this trip concerned that Japan will be releasing Fukushima nuclear waste water very soon? Wondering if we should skip the sashimi…..

    https://www.news.com.au/technology/environment/grave-concern…

    • +2

I think there is too much hysteria around this radiation exists everywhere and from reading up on this the amount they are dropping is probably less then what is dropped covertly in a month around the world.

      From Wikipedia:
      Official nuclear science panels
The Japanese expert panel "ALPS subcommittee", chaired by nuclear scientist Ichiro Yamamoto, released a report in January 2020 which calculated that discharging all the water to the sea in one year would cause a radiation dose of 0.81 microsieverts to the locals, therefore it is negligible as compared to the Japanese' natural radiation of 2,100 microsieverts per year.[31] Its calculations was endorsed by International Atomic Energy Agency.[32]

      • -4

Mate I'm asking a genuine question, I'm happy for you to share your opinion but I don't see the need for the downvote as its meant to encourage pre-travel discussions.

        • +1

I didn't down vote you, someone else did

        • probably because you linked a news.com.au article

  • Lots of people poo pooing Jetstar, does anyone have any recommendations for a better airline? Planning a trip in October and I don't wanna get stuffed over.

    • +1

Japan Airlines and ANA are great airlines

  • -4

Yeh, i'm not paying fking $55 just to find out if the dates I want have free return lol

Jetstar, more like jester because they're a fking laugh

    • You don't need to pay..

      • What are some dates that definitely have free flights? Because I can't see any

        • Never mind, I just checked the end of Dec and whole of Jan to no avail. Waste of time, don't advertise those periods if you're not actually offering free return in those periods smh

          • +3

@cheekymonkey97: Yep, these are until the start of December and then pick up again end of Jan. The dates are clear on the Jetstar website, I prioritised speed to get this out so people could take advantage so didn't list every detail :)

  • If flying from Melbourne (via Cairns), do we need to pick up our luggage in Cairns then check it in again?

And when flying back into Cairns from Japan, do we go through Australian immigration in Cairns or Melbourne?

    • +2
      1. Yes, Jetstar is point-to-point so you have to recheck your luggage.
      2. Cairns.
      • +1

Correct, and that being the case, check whether you're not better off flying Bonza to Cairns, and then catching the Japan flight there. We just did this trip, to Tokyo, from Brisbane, via Cairns, and you actually only do immigration stuff in Cairns. You have to take your luggage, get out of the domestic terminal, roll it over to int'l, and then check-in again, as if you had just arrived at the airport by car. Might as well buy the CNS-Japan ticket from Jetstar, and the domestic leg from whoever is cheapest (Bonza, I bet).

  • just want to double check if it is possible that we can book another flight flying out of Japan to visit other countries and then return to Japan and fly back using this return ticket?

    • +2

Yes you can, as long as U leave Australia and return on the same ticked you booked out with Jetstar.
I've done that in many countries in Asia.
Eg. Booked 3 weeks in Japan, stay in Japan for the 1st 2 weeks and fly to South Korea for 5 days, then go back to Japan and fly back to Australia.

  • +1

Can't load the page to check flights :(

  • Thank you so much. Just booked my honeymoon thanks to this post :)

    • Glad to hear! Were you able to book the flights within the last hour or so? I'm not able to load the page to search the flights.

    • +1

So exciting! Congrats and have the best time :)

    • +1

      Congrats.

Hope the both of you have a great trip.

  • page is not loading :(

  • My friend was able to search flights multiple times even after getting the error they were able to reload the page. Whereas I wasn't able to search flights even once on my computer. So check if your family friends can search for you!

  • -2

Genuine question, anyone else who booked this trip concerned that Japan will be releasing Fukushima nuclear waste water soon?

    • I doubt it.

It's generally advised not to travel much (or at all) between Tsuchiura and Okuma/Futaba though if you are worried about radiation exposure. Locations along that route still have radiation levels of +50 to +100 millisieverts.

      • Great thanks for the tip!

  • +1

Page not loading minutes after I joined the club jetstar lol

    • I just booked online and got confirmation for family of 6 done and completed.. no issues on my end with the booking at all.
Booked via a laptop and also joined Jetstar too.

    • Finally worked via my phone‘s 5G hotspot….

  • +1

I cant find any dates that come up with free return… now I get the error You don't have permission to access "http://booking.jetstar.com/au/en/booking/select-flights" on this server.

    Anyone else seeing this?

    • Me too

      • No issues here, I just logged in via my Jetstar app this time and did a mock booking and all is fine.
Went all the way to the payment page

        • Thanks, worked on my phone and then I tried to use mobile hotspot to my desktop and successfully booked.
My home internet is still not loading the finding flights page - not sure why.

  • does amyone know if Jetstar actually flies form Gold Coast to Narita Direct? According to chat GP they do so on Wed and Fri, but everything comes up as 2 stops when I check

    • Looks like once a day they do. JQ11.

    • +1

      According to chat GP

Please tell me this isn't a typo of "ChatGPT"… It is based on a dataset that runs up to September 2021.

    • +1

They'll be changing from GC to Brisbane from October 1st i think it is.

  • Trying to sign up now but just getting "something went wrong". :(

    • Try your phone via 4G/5G or using mobile hotspot. Worked for me.
My home internet is not working on Jetstar - not sure why.

      • No luck unfortunately. Might just stay up for public sale to start.

        • Have you tried a different browser? I had the same issue in chrome and edge for me then I used the browser called 'Brave' as it disables a lot of unnecessary stuff(i think) and it worked. Might be worth downloading and having a crack. Best of luck.

          • @busu: Yeah I tried Chrome, Edge, Brave on PC, then Chrome and Brave on Mobile, and tried through the Jetstar app on mobile too, all with a variety of mobile data and wifi, no luck.

  • Here we go! Just scored BNE–KIX RT for $285 x3 in June (no frills, just carry-on; then added 1x20kg check-in luggage RT only at the end). That's ridiculous; surely they're paying us to visit them.

    • +1

      Amazing!

    • Absolutely insane, I paid $1400 and seeing deals like this makes my eyes water. Nothing like this when I booked 😂

      • When for? With so many deals to Japan lately, couldn't you have sat on your hands for a bit?! 😅

At those prices, I'm pretty sure the Japanese taxpayer is paying us to visit them. This is not coming from the airlines themselves; I don't see the same discounts to other countries. Nothing under $1500 USD to Brazil, for example, which is where my relos are.

        • couldn't you have sat on your hands for a bit?!

Not really. My family member only has a certain time they can go on leave so we had to arrange it around that. I had my eye on ozbargain months prior but wasn't able to get anything that suited our plans

          Leaving next Thursday for Tokyo.

  • -1

Never doing Jetstar to/from Japan ever again. Awful experience in both directions.

Friends don't let friends fly international Jetstar.

    • We just did CNS-NRT RT this past month, and had no issues. It's no SgAir, that's for sure, but it's pretty ok, especially for this price. One can do a lot worse with some Asian or pretty much all Latin American airlines.

    • +2

I think one of the things that makes low cost carriers work in Europe (eg easyjet or Ryanair), is the EU penalties if they have delays. It's punitive enough that airlines really try to avoid it. I could almost see jetstar working if we had similar penalties for flights to/from/within Australia. But we don't, and jetstar just don't care, so fact you could have a day wasted at each end of your holidays, with no real recompense, really counts against them.

  • +1

Can’t find any $0 return fare now. Either everything sold out or you have to be a Club Jetstar member already to see them?

    • me neither :(
