    This or the SE2?

    • +4

I went with the SE2 as I was after a black colour watch + was not after cellular (I personally have no use for it). Plus after the price match/discounted gift cards for payment it worked out to be a nice price. Well under $400 for 44mm.

      • Oh wow that sounds amazing mate! Which retailer did u price match at, if you don't mind telling me?

        • +5

Apple retail Store direct near to me. Got it brand new not refurbished.

They price matched David Jones deal (I think it was $50 off standard price) then I used 15% discounted gift cards from previous deal for payment.

Now this is what you call a proper, grown up adult OzBargainer… not one of those ones who expects the bargains to come to them.

        https://www.apple.com/au_edu_5004662/shop/product/FNK03ZP/A/…
This comes to about $340 after gc discount

      • What does the cellular version do? Allow you to place calls without phone?

        • +1

          Yes I think so.

Need to buy a esim subscription from your network provider (note only optus, telstra & vodafone directly offer this so no mvno's like tpg, boost, aldi mobile, kogan mobile etc. also only works within Australia no global roaming/overseas)

        • +1

Calls, sms, etc. You don't need cellular to pay using your watch though.

    • +1

Main thing that turned me off SE2 was the lack of an on-screen keyboard.

    • +2

No always on display on the SE2!

      • Would that not be a bad thing draining the battery down?

        • -1

the definition AOD is the screen is always on but not draining the battery down, or else why not just switch off the screen time off function

          • +3

@OzOzOzOzzzzz: That’s not correct. It does drain the battery, albeit less significant. How insignificant it is depends on your usage and the battery health. Using a 6, I turned this feature off and my battery life did improve.

        • +1

I use an S6 and there is definitely a battery life difference with it turned on or off. Not massive, probably 2-3 hours in real terms.

Personally the convenience of having it makes it worth keeping on for me. It’s a watch, I want it to always serve its fundamental purpose of… you know… telling the time.

          • @jackary: How old fashioned!

          • @jackary: I have a watch face set up for night time which removes as much of the bright colours as possible, and the display is quite minimalist: time and battery only.

Does AOD mean it's always on at night time as well? So when you go to bed, it's potentially bright AF? Or can it be set to turn off at night?

    • +1

This has always on display which to me is worth it alone. The SE doesn't.

      • Doesn the display come on the SE when you turn your wrist to look at it?

        • Oh yeah, but I mean the "Always on Display, means it has another low power state that means the screen is always at least showing the time etc. Just makes it feel more like a watch, where you could just glance down at it, without doing the whole Raise it up to turn the screen on thing.

You can ofcourse turn that feature off if you want to, but I love it.

        • +1

I have a previous model that doesn't have always on and you need to make an obvious gesture to make it come on.

For example if your hand is just resting on the table or typing away at the keyboard you can't just glance down to see the time - you have to physically raise your wrist up towards you.

Also when I'm swimming I want to quickly check my progress between laps I have to stop and then jerk my wrist out of the water, which interrupts my flow.

Minor inconvenience I know… first world problems! :)

          • @cuteseal: Thanks for explaining.

I'm considering one of these for my GF who is sick of replacing her fitbits after a year or so.

I'm not a fan of apple so know nothing about them. Would be android if I had my way for battery life. But hey this is what she likes

            • @ToonarmY: No probs… well assuming she has an iPhone it really is the best option for full functionality.

            • @ToonarmY: She will need an Apple Phone to be able to set this up. Me, I have an Apple Watch 5, an 11” iPad Pro and an Apple XS phone. The Phone is, mostly, the hotspot for the iPad and the management for the watch. The watch is a total package thing. Not just fitness but messaging, weather, card replacements, stop watch, Shazam monitor, calendar, answer the phone, etc. when the phone rings I’m not dashing around the house looking for my bag.

I replace an Apple device when they run out of iOS upgrade capability. This gives me roughly four to five years. If I’ve got my wits about me I sell the device to one of the second hand places before the iOS runs out because Apple holds its value fairly well.

I charge my devices overnight. So the battery isn’t usually an issue. If it runs out then the watch is quick to recharge.

With Apple it is about the ecosystem.

  • +1

    Oooooh… tempting

    • +4

      Ordered. God damn it.

      • +2

lol. It’s something else to charge - that’s the most annoying part. And it has its own special charger…

        • "Own special charger" - as in different to the other model Apple Watches?

          • +1

@adinico: No, the same as the others, but it is proprietary vs something like Qi.

      • +2

        "This is the way"

  • thanks, triggered it!

  • Good price especially for cellular

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

Wow, what a deal. This is a cracking price for brand new stock. Great find!

  • +4

Have had one for a year and love it. Reliable, good battery and it will make you put the phone down as you can receive or check notifications quickly on the watch.

I even pick phone calls on it and feel like batman

  • +1

    Haha. Hello? “I am Batman”

  • +3

Oh god. A whole generation thinks it's Batman who had this. Dick Tracy, anyone? Though people watching the Flash (2023 film) probably think the main Batman in that is old.

    • Absolutely Dick Tracey. I spent a good deal of my life waiting for my Dick Tracey watch.

      • Dick Tracy starring Warren Beatty. IMDb rating 6.2/10

        • Nah mate, I go back to the original cartoons on TV. This would be Pre colour TV in Australia.

    • Don't forget 'Get Smart" 99!

    • A lady in my office once answered a call on her Apple Watch, to which I remarked, "calm down Dick Tracy," which drew a mixture of snort laughs (older crowd) and confused stares (younger crowd) 😂

    • I'm more of a Knight Rider talking to KITT.

  • Anyone know how often this deal occurs? Thinking about holding out until black friday / christmas but if this is a rare deal I might get it now. Thanks everyone

    • +1

These Apple Watch sales seem to be super unpredictable. JB often discounts the previous model as a new one comes out, but even timing THAT is difficult.

If you want or need an Apple Watch and you want this size/colour/variant, it won’t get much cheaper than this. I wouldn’t wait until BF/Xmas because you just don’t know what will come up.

It’s cheap before you even consider the fact that it’s also the cellular variant.

    • +1

I picked up this watch for similar price around October last year for the Mrs… terrific watch. I'm reckoning on that case it's every 6-8 months?? But like others have said- you can't pick it and best to just jump on it when you can afford it!

*edited: scratch that. just searched prior deals, much more frequent than that!

A reminder that cellular only works across Optus, Telstra & Vodafone mobile plans. My sis (on Boost mobile) bought this thinking she could use cellular but its not avai.

    • -1

bought this thinking she could use cellular

Why didn't she do her research?

      • +10

Ozbargain way: Buy first ask questions later

    • I believe it's e-sim dependant… so any provider who can't give you an e-sim it clearly won't work with (the watch requires e-sim)

    • Correct a bit of a pain in the arse, but being able to stream tunes and quickly take calls/messages while walking the dog in my trackies is great.

Might have to hand in the Ozbargain card paying through the nose for Telstra but worth it for me.

  • -2

bought one and just notice it says used lol

    • Seems to be new stock. Doesn’t say used anywhere

Good deal. anyone have small wrists and can chime in on the fit of the 45mm model?
I currently have a fitbit charge 4 and use the small band , fits comfortably using about 6-7/8ths of the band. I can use the large band but small is more comfy.

    • +1

I have a fairly small wrist and it looks fine. Don't forget you can just buy an aftermarket band from Amazon or Aliexpress for a handful of pocket change.

    • +1

They are fine but they won’t look dainty. Frankly the bigger screen real estate is worth it.

  • Already have a series 6… this better sell out soon.

    • Don't resist, just hit that buy button!

  • This or Xiaomi miband 8?

    • At the same price I don't think that's even a fair comparison… S7 by miles

  • have they improved battery on this? had 3 and 5 but daily charging just meh. prefer to use g shock especially when bike riding.

    • +2

Aren't all apple watches designed around 'daily charging' ?
Each new version adds a better battery, more efficient processor, and then balances that out with other new features that make it overall the same battery life.

    • +2

unless you go camping or sleep on the street you'll be fine with day long battery. A quick recharge during shower time and I wear it for the night

  • -2

    Have an Android, bought 2.

  • +3

I also forgot to mention the incredible vibrating alarm function which will gently wake you up without a sound and will consequently make you drop your apocalypse-like, stressfull, ferry-sirens blasting usual iPhone alarm at 7am that wakes up the entire neighbourhood

    • +1

Love the description. You forgot to mention the fact you startle the cat that adds to the wake up by sinking its claws into you.

  • Excellent deal! Ordered one.

  • +1

The blue one is such a deal. Something interesting I always consider is what band is included and what cable also. $358.26 for the watch itself is great and I recommend for sure.

    • Is it $475? Let us know how to buy it for $358.

    • dang how? $358 is amazing

      • +1

prob just breaking up the band & charger cost as if they were purchased separately, meaning the watch body itself ends up as being ~$360.

  • Blue is out, out of the blue!

  • +1

9 is out in two months so the 8 will probably be close to this price by black friday

  • +1

absolutely a banger of a watch. I wont be so much of an apple user if it wasnt for the watch and earbuds. nowadays phones are pretty much the same or rather preference.
but when it comes watch and earbuds, there is just no competition…….

  • -3

fast charging only started in series 8
and the aluminium will scratch so quickly it's not even funny.

  • So you can't use this with android phone right?

    • Technically no. You need an Apple Phone to set it up.

      • Once it is setup, will you still need an iPhone?

        • +1

you should always have the iphone for updates, tracking your health and new features

  • Missed the boat, no more on stock

    • One blue left in stock

  • No wonder why the heck inflation is so high, when people are crazzy on spending $470 on a smart watch. (price of a good decent budget phone). Mean while others cannot even afford $100 watch

    • spending $470 on a smartwatch. (the price of an average leather ladies' handbag).

  • Mean while others cannot even afford $400 return flight to Osaka on Jetstar

  • perhaps you should talk about a first home buyer who outbid 8 buyers to acquire 4 million dollar run down terrace in Sydney, China made watches have no impact on inflation when it's not Rolex or Omega bought by the thousands at one go
It would take a gazillion Chinese-made watches sold to match the price of a 4 million dollars terrace the first home buyer bought to have a nudge on inflation. Though 16 such houses sold a fortnight will definitely tilt the inflation up north problem is Australians have this addiction in buying houses like it was soda water, admittedly most are for bragging rights and not because they need a roof over the head, that is the problem in Australia

    • what's that got to do with the price of fish in Hong Kong? 🤪

      • Hong Kong is a different kettle of fish.

  • 1 Blue and 1 Green back in stock, if you are quick.
