Was doing my monthly nbn pricing comparison and saw Exetel have their 6 month discounts back (with a 50c increase).

  • Unlimited data.
  • 5 Speed Boosts per month.
  • Free static IP if you're not behind CG-NAT - can easily be removed in My Exetel.
  • No lock in contract, but must give 30 days notice - seems to be the norm now :(

You're a new customer after being away for 6 months.

I currently use them and find the service to be excellent. Consistently get 105Mbps on my 100/20 service.

30/11 EDIT: 50/20 plan updated for December price rise.

    250/25 $83.99 for 6 Months

More Telecom is $83.30 for 12 Months

    • I bought a 5G modem and went with the More/CBA 5G 400GB plan, at $49 for 12 months
They use Telstra 5G towers where available and I get 3 to 4 bars on the 5G modem.
Speeds are capped at 250MB but speed tests start at over 400MB and decline down to 280MB.
Was considering Exetel decided on trying this plan as its month to month for 12 months.

So far, not too bad but every so often speeds only get to 100MB but then I just reboot the 5G modem and its back to normal.
Much prefer wired but happy with this 5G for the price and dont even use all the 400GB.
Was going to try Exetel but this imo, NBN is overpriced unless you have a few people contributing towards it.
Like always, will see how it goes and if need be will jump over but going down to 50MB after 5G might be hard but time will tell.

      • 400GB plan

That would last me a week.

Tried them for a month and had to switch, had the same plan as I had with my previous ISP but noticed considerable lag when gaming on the Switch and, just connection/slowness issues I didn't have before. Gave my 30 days notice, moved, issues and lag disappeared. YMMV

Unrelated question, I am currently with Optus month to month and took the free 6 months Prime membership which remains 2 more months. If I jump to Exetel, will I lose the remaining 2 free months from Optus ?

    • +1

Yes, I did get this thru subhub I think it was called, when I was on optus 5g- and when cancelled it axed my subscriptions; if it was setup thru that…but if it was just a one off promo code you had to punch in to Amazon - you should be right

Good deal but I think this has been going on for quite some time?

I hate when they slug you with a CC fee.
It’s not a lot but it’s still extra

  • Can you explain what is the purpose(s) of a static IP?

"Free static IP if you're not behind CG-NAT"

    Thank you

    • +1

For if you're running your own services from home.
Eg. if you're running a website on a macine at your house, or an email server (don't do this), or gaming server.
You don't really want your IP address changing in these cases.

  • Folks are on 25/10 with landline on ABB for $65
I guess no point to move if they dont need extra speed

    • $59 with Superloop

  • Switching over now from Superloop so will see how it goes.
Stuck with the same plan (100/40) so it's $25/mth cheaper :)

    • +1

Same! Was experiencing intermittent dropouts and connection issues with SL in the past month. Very disruptive to Zoom meetings so just pulled the trigger to switch. Hope it improves, thanks op!

    • I'll do the same next month.

      Can you explain the process?
You write to Superloop chat to tell them you want to cancel at your anniversay day?
You write to Excetel and tell them you want the service to commence at same anniversary day?

Can they do that without screwing up and without gap wit no Internet?

It is the same company, but hey, they can stil screw up

      • If it's like the previous time when I switched from More to SL,I had to go into the More account website and submit the cancellation request. Went smoothly so no issues.

The new service activates and takes over the old one for me as I'm on HFC. So no internet until you change the details in the router.

  • No lock in contract, well apart from the 30 day lock in contract if you want to leave :)
I've been with them a while now and they are pretty good. Their ZTE modem and extender though I need to reboot every few days or the WiFi starts dropping.

  • Exetel have the worst customer service I have ever experienced for an ISP

Thanks for posting this it prompted me to check my current 500/50 plan - it's now $109.99, was able to 'switch' to it from $119 was previously paying.

    • 1000/50 $99 @ Superloop.

    • Me too, got them to bump us up from 250 to 500. Shaved $9 a month at the same time.

  • the connection with exetel is so unstable on FTTP, my unifi dream router pro detected daily 2mins outages at 7pm 7.30pm and 8.20pm and 12am the connection fully resets. I went through trouble shooting with network team and they just put it down to overloading. Moved to Tangerine no issues or downtime.

    • I found the opposite, tangerine unusable with half the speed of exetel and dropouts. FTTN

      • FTTP on tangerine is hopeless. Not sure if it’s the latest mesh routers they’ve supplied or something within their network but you will get constant drop outs, with a powercycle of the router the only way to bring your network back up…

        • Noob question. Hopefully someone can explain.
I am currently in process of upgrading to FTTP with tangerine, after that 6 months, can I still come back to Exetel for their lower speed plan (say 25/10) or minimum plan is always 100/20 after the upgrade?
(reason: I am living by myself and does not need the faster speeds)

  • Superloop charging me $69.95/5 for 50/20 FTTN

Worth changing? I'd rather have reliable internet over saving dollars…(CCTV cameras etc)

But if reliable, I'll be changing, and saving nearly $100 over 6 months

    • im on Tangerine 100/20 for $62 comes with sticky ip no issues for me

  • +1

PSA.. I called Aussie BB told them about a cheaper offer, they offered a $20 discount on my 100/20 for 6 months, no lock in, bringing it to $79 per month. Still not as chea as this post,, but good timing with billing period for me while i contemplate churning. Pays to call retentions team.

    • Was with ABB for over 5 years a few years ago and what they basically told me was good bye when i mentioned swapping to Superloop.

      • I switched the following day!

      • Me too

  • I was offered a $10 life long discount after the 6 month period, not sure if standard but okay if you can't be bothered switching for another $15 discount

  • Wow, 100/40 for $75 is tempting

  • Will nbn Unlimited 50/20 $53.99 work on a fibre to the node premises?

    • Yes. They will check your line speed before allowing you to sign up to a plan you can’t utilise. FTTN can go up to 100/40.

  • Just remember : You may cancel your service at any time by giving Exetel thirty days’ notice (including if you do not wish to continue to use your service during the notice period).
I didnt know this and end up paying $89 for no services, not Exetel's fault, I didnt read this. So, just making sure everyone is aware of this.

    • it's easy to get out of this as it's not enforceable

      • Not enforceable how? They send you the bill.

        • Cancellation Date means: a. the date thirty (30) days after the Customer notifies Exetel that the Customer wishes to cancel the Service, unless Exetel agrees otherwise; b. the date at least thirty (30) days after Exetel notifies the Customer that Exetel will be cancelling the Service; or c. as otherwise set out in the Agreement.

          Exetel always agrees

  • Any cancellation fees if I switched from superloop?

    • 30 days notice, same as exetel

  • +1

Can I have a future connection date?

    • +1

yes…cancel 30 days before your future connection date

  • I am on exetel 50/20 and been few years with them. Called them and they said this price is only for new customers. So they are not interested to keep current customers.

If you have a CBA account, switch to More Telecom and pay $53.90 for 12 months on the 50/20 plan.

  • I am thinking to move away from Tangerine, their WhatsApp support is nightmare for me, reply after few hours, and if I won't reply immediately, they'll be gone for another few hours. How am I supposed to hold my phone everytime?

Do I need to give 30 days of notice to Tangerine too?

  • How reliable they are when you put the installation date in advance of more than 30 days ? I had bad experience with a provider that instead of they connected in 40 days, they connected within a day or two.

  • How good are these guys compared to tpg?

Also looks like superloop is exactly the same plan and promotion wise, are there any differences between them as I read they are the same company?

    • +1

TPG have much better connectivity to the US

    • Visited state library the other day and found out they were with superloop

  • Switched today and this is hands down the worst speeds since I’ve had the NBN.
    100/20 plan.
I thought Tangerine was bad but this is deplorable.

Banking apps won’t even load on my phone.

  • Horrible service.. like.. want to test someone's resilience and patience?.. simply get him an exetel service..

  • I 'churned' away when they (Exetel) jacked their prices by a small amount (15+%). With them for 3+ years.

I did go through with advice (Whirlpool.net.au) to contact their retention people - but that only dragged things on for 2x3mths.

Gave 30 days notice. On the final day I moved to Superloop. Yep, same ownership structure.

In 6 months I expect that I'll go through the same thing again - except that I wont worry about their retention 'efforts'. If this deal is still on, I'll go back to Exetel. Small effort for me, waste of time for Superloop/Exetel or anyone else that thinks that keeping customers is less important than getting 'new' customers.

Adequate service from both Exetel and Superloop. I can't say that I noticed any difference.

    Idiots…

  • I have very bad experience with them, very hard to get your money back if the service is not available at your place.

  • Reminder for anyone who signed up to the spintel Valentine’s Day deal, need to be changing providers for 13 August

  • With exetel, told them I would churn to superloop for 100/20 for same price as I was paying for 50/20 with exetel. cust service said they could give me a $10 discount off RRP to make it $75 a month for 100/20. Told them about this deal. They said this deal was for new customers only and there was no lock in so couldn't give me this deal.

  • I'm looking to churn away from Exetel as I've finished the 6 months promo. Do I need to inform them before I churn? Also, any suggestions for a 50/20 service around $50-60 mark?

    • I went Exetel>Superloop. Gave 30 days notice - no need to say where you're going to, but let them know it is loyalty tax related. On the last day (pm) I signed up to Superloop and had a live connection in about 30 minutes. Same sort of discount as offered here. Minor router changes involved. Too easy.

      • Thanks. I was actually with Superloop prior to moving to Exetel. Is there any cooldown period if I were to apply back to Superloop?

        • Someone hereabove suggested that you were considered to be a new Exetel customer after a 7 month absence? Given that it is pretty much the same company, it could well be similar. This was my first 'churn' - so no direct experience. Could I suggest that you call them and enquire whether the deal is open to you? Shouldn't hurt to do that!

        • +3

For those interested, I called Exetel to give my 30 day notice. After telling customer retention I wanted to keep my nbn bill below $60/month, she offered to transfer me to Superloop (with the usual 6 month discount). I accepted and the whole process was done over the phone in about 10 minutes. Too easy!

          • @ddhar: Ohhh! Sounds good. I'll see if that works when I'm ready to churn back the other way (to Exetel)!

          • @ddhar: Wow! What speed were you on?

            • +2

              @ozbmm: Just 50/20.

Basically the lady did the following in the background:
              1. Obtain her manager's approval to waive the 30 day notice period (Exetel),
              2. Apply for Superloop account (using my details from Exetel, except for credit card which she had no access to),
              3. Once Superloop account is active, she then cancelled the Exetel service. This happened 1-2 hours after the call.

Throughout the process, there were email trails.

That said, my Google Nest Wifi router is having trouble connecting (perhaps there was an Exetel setting I had to clear or could be a hiccup with the unit losing internet access during the churn). I will give tech support a call on my WFH day.

  • For those that regularly churn through ISPs, are the modem configurations pretty straight forward? I've had some bad experiences with switching for my parents (from TPG to Superloop to Aus Post) and lengthy calls with tech support trying to reconfigure..

    • +1

      Yes, pretty easy.

  • If you add a mobile plan you also receive a monthly $7.50 credit from your NBN plan. They use the Telstra mobile network as well.

  • If you disconnect from exetel, can you sign up a few days after to get the 6 months promo?

  • Hi Everyone.
I am currently with Exetel, they told me that my last invoice for my promo price of $70.65 (100/20) will be issued on the 05 August. The next invoice will be on the 05 Sep for $85.65.
Does that mean that I will have to let them know before 05 Aug for my cancellation of their service?? I have not churn to another ISP before. I am on FTTP and I am thinking of either Tangerine or Superloop. Leaptel is also on my radar too. Any advice will be appreciated. thanks.

    • Yes that sounds right as you usually need to let them know at least 30 days before you decide to cancel.
You can let them know now that you want to cancel at the end of the next billing period.
Then contract to another ISP and set the day to be connected on the 4 September.
Even if exetel is still connected, the next port on the NBN box will be assigned your new connection. So there is a small period where you have 2 active connections until Exetel disconnects, to avoid any internet downtime.

  • 1. Am I a new customer and eligible if I previously been with them?
    2. Can I register with the same email I used?
    3. If I put in my details can I get the service running on the same day?

  • +1

Anyone know how quick their activation / churning process is. I've gone over my Tangerine 6 months so i would not like to do that again. Service cycle ends on 23rd of August, Thinking of arranging the activation of service to 20th.

    • It's usually done within hours if done during business hours.

    • On HFC it took 1 hour and 20 minutes from order to receiving the "your service is active" email with my login details on a weekday afternoon/evening. Superloop were very quick to de-activate their service so there was a bit of waiting and hoping for that service active email to arrive.
Previously when I switched (again HFC) from ABB to Superloop, it was 7 minutes from order placed to service active, which was really impressive.

  • +1

    Thanks, made the switch!

  • Bit the bullet and switched to Exetel from Superloop. Called Exetel after 2 hrs and they said service is active and helped me reconfigure the modem. Connected to the slowest speeds I'd ever seen (FTTP) even though the speed test ran fine, nothing loaded. Spent the next 2 hours troubleshooting with tech support and they couldnt figure it out or get us connected properly. Dont understand how Exetel is owned by Superloop but couldnt figure this out.

The next day, fed up, churned to Tangerine due to their high reviews and better 6 month offer. Hoping for better luck, my partner also spent 4 hours calling between them and our original provider Superloop (as it was their supplied modem) trying to reset and access the gateway to our modem. In the end we had to factory reset the NBN. Thankfully we are now connected after approx 26 hours without internet. The lesson for me is, there's value in not trying to fix what's not broken!

    • So…. The problem is not resetting the modem…?

  • Anyone knows if I switch over to other internet providers, do I need someone to come over to install NBN again? (I am living in an apartment)

    • +2

No, it's all done via a configuration update on NBNs equipment. You only need to change authentication settings in your modem/router.

      • What's your ping like? compared to previous providers.

Get 2ms with Superloop and Tangerine.

  • Currently with mate as its cheap but connection at peak is poor so looking to switch.

  • Thank you, just signed up yesterday arvo and already connected last night. BYO router and set up and running within a couple of minutes.

Moved from Tangerine, so far so good.

  • Power Home NBN Plan $63.00 cashback according to shopback, I did it thru the app, anyone else get this cashback or tracked? Didn't enter any coupons etc so believe I have complied with the T&C
