nbn Unlimited 50/20 $60.99, 100/20 $68.99, 100/40 $74.99, 250/25 $83.99 for 6 Months (New Customers) @ Exetel

Was doing my monthly nbn pricing comparison and saw Exetel have their 6 month discounts back (with a 50c increase).

  • Unlimited data.
  • 5 Speed Boosts per month.
  • Free static IP if you're not behind CG-NAT - can easily be removed in My Exetel.
  • No lock in contract, but must give 30 days notice - seems to be the norm now :(

You're a new customer after being away for 6 months.

I currently use them and find the service to be excellent. Consistently get 105Mbps on my 100/20 service.

30/11 EDIT: 50/20 plan updated for December price rise.

    • Wanted to choose the same plan but showing upfront development fee even though my address doesn't need new development. Was wondering if you had the same experience? Thanks!

  • When people are saying that ISPS are now requiring '30 days notice', do they just mean there's no pro rata refund of whatever's left of a month? Or that even if I were to organize to swap on the final day of my month, my isp (AB) might refuse to cancel and want another month out of me anyway? (and if so are Aussie Broadband one of the ones doing it?)

Basically, you're paying a minimum of 30 more days from the time your give your ISP notice, even if you churn away before then. They only financially hold you to them, not the actual connection.

      • Do you need to actually call and tell them you are cancelling? Or can I just churn?

        • You have to notify them or you'll be charged for an extra 30 days I believe.

When I recently left Exetel for SL, I had emailed them asking for a discount (cause hey, why not?) and in the end informed them over email that I was cancelling which they accepted and churned the day before the 30 days was up.

        • Them being? If Exetel (or any other with a notice period) it's best to contact them so you don't forfeit those 30 days.

  • So sick of it. Paying $70.65 dollars after my discount ended. They offer $65 for me to continue for 6 months. I said $50. They said too low. Then I said go ahead with cancellation…

Hopefully a new deal pops up for NBN.

    • $50 is unheard of for 50/20 or 100/20 plans at the moment due to new approved NBN price increases

  • Signed up with Exetel last week and put activation date today. I also put a note to activate it on port UNI D2. Well woke up today with no internet as they put it in D1 and i still use that port for another ISP. not happy =|

Just got an email from More Telecom that my NBN plan is going from $53.90 to $88.00 / month from the 1st of November. My first bill would be 1st December.
Unimpressed! :-/ Time to move to Exetel.

    • Same as Tangerine on 50/20 plan to $79. But some of tangerine plans are getting cheaper

  • Was going to Leaptel but their prices have increased. This looks like one of the last not to….

  • I am in the same boat. Do we need to give advance notice to Tangerine if we move to Exetel? They will auto debit my bank account on 11 Nov, which cover the period 26/10-25/11. So when the 30 days notice start if I inform Tangerine tomorrow I am leaving?

    • Tangerine does require 30 days notice, yes.

you may terminate it on at least 30 days' notice, taking effect at the end of a Billing
Period (eg if you give notice on 26 March, your Contract ends on 30 April next).

If you still have a discount going, I wouldn't be so quick to jump ship. I don't believe that Exetel/Superloop will just absorb the same cost increases that Tangerine (and every other ISP) is passing on.

      • Never heard about that ever. I have moved carriers multiple times.

This is what I have in their email:

If you wish to cancel your service at any stage in the future, we recommend cancelling at the end of the month. We do not offer part month refunds for services cancelled mid-month. Please give us at least 1-2 business days notice if you wish to cancel your service at the end of the month.

UPDATE: Spoke to support. There is no contract and no notice period. Just let them know when you have churned.

        • Interesting, I also thought that there was no notice period but I pulled the quote straight out of their standard terms. Good to know.

  • Just signed up, moving from ABB since they want $85 /month now

I've checked few options as Tangerine NBN price increase after 6 months.

I've used Launtel, AussieBB, Spintel, Superloop and Tangerine in the past few years,

Ironically best experience was with superloop, worst experience was Tangerine in overall.

Spintel was $49 special I used for 6 months last year, it was good enough for what I used to pay. (I had $106 cash back through econnex, costing less than $200 for 6 months of spintel service with cashback)

I struggled to make decision between Exetel, Superloop, Swoop and one of other company I don't remember right now,

I ended up signed up with Exetel through Econnex ($99 cashback) which take some risks but that's what I have done with spintel and it was good.

I signed up approx 8:50, received email from Econnex in few minutes, received confirmation from Exetel 3 hours time that including ID, Password, then I just received an email from Exetel that my NBN is connected. I've already organized with Tangerine to be disconnected tomorrow, so everything is done.

I'm super excited to utilize of Boost function few times a month (5 times per months but this will accumulate upto 30 days), I also have acquired their free 3 months home security options for free. I will add on my experience in few weeks time if I remember.

      Good luck,Mate

      • Thanks. Its now all connected and speed of 105Mb down 17.6Mb up
I used to have buffering with tangerine for streaming youtubes, smooth to watch youtube video now and Ping is 12.

With surf shark, South korea Ping is 161

  • Did the price recently increase? 50/20 showing $60.99/mth

    • Looks like they've raised the 50/20 plan for the December price rise. I have updated that plan in the title.

  • I have been with superloop on the 50/20, $50 a month for 12 months (which is a good speed for 2 person WFH household, streaming, video calls etc, very occasional dropouts)
Unfortunately they wouldn't even match their sister company, exetel's intro 6 month offer, so I have ported over to exetel with the $60 a month offer + refer a friend 10% discount. Seems backward that they would bother allowing me to do this, instead of just retaining me. Expecting/hoping service will be the exact same.

    • When did you get the 50/20 for 50$ for 12Mo?

      I have 58$ for 6 months only

      • +1

Was during the period Superloop was being bought out by the current owners and managed to convince them to retain my business

  • Is it easy to churn this? How hard is it? Do we just sign up with them, and then tell them a date that my Superloop is expiring?

    • +1

Depends on your current ISP. If you're with Superloop, I believe they're the exact same as Exetel where you have to give them 30 days notice to switch away otherwise they will charge up to a full month invoice according to their t&cs.

In your case you can just tell them you're moving away on x date (+30 days) and then sign up with Exetel scheduled for that date.

      • Can I switch from Superloop to this and vice versa?

        • I believe so. Exetel was acquired by Superloop but if you're switching between the two you would still be considered a new customer.

        • You can swap between Superloop and Exetel. Update your router settings.

          Superloop: IPoE.
Exetel: PPPoE + Exetel username and password.

I churned from Superloop last month and thought the same but the guy on the phone said that it would be pro-rated, sure enough my final bill was about $13.

        • Awesome thanks for that information was looking to churn from Exetel soon

  • -4

    Avoid at all costs lol

    • why… what's up?

    • +6

You can't just post a PSA and then have no explanation.

  • Was about to sign up to this but More Telecom ended up working out cheaper (at least on their promo rates). Once the promotion with More expires, will be jumping ship asap as the pricing is absurdly high compared to other ISPs.

With More telecom (under the promo), works out to be circa $57/month for 100/20 for 6 (or 12) months.

  • Is it worth to buy their modem ?
i am currently with TPG using old tplink modem, anyone using their modem&extender ?

  • Still one of the best ISP's if you download a lot of "Linux Distros" as none of those websites/links seemed to be blocked by the ISP.

    • +1

Normally you just need to change your DNS or use a VPN, right?

      • +1

        Exactly, just need DNS change.
Though arguably a good sentiment if they're not blocking sites on their DNS servers.

  • Has anyone managed to negotiate a cheaper rate after the 6 months? I'm lazy to keep churning and the ISPs are raising the rates.

    • +1

I managed to get $90 for 12 months for the 250/25 plan

  • Look like Spintel a bit cheaper and the cheapest among those ISP.

  • About to bail on Exetel after my 6 month discount expired (they refused to extend it). They’re a mixed bag. Service has been reliable and they handled my fibre upgrade reasonably well. But they are SLOW on email support. I’m talking 1 week+ for a reply.

  • With the 30-day notice, when is the best time to inform the provider and start the churn process and minimise the amount that the current provider takes?
For example, if the bank account is debited on the 25th of each month, do I tell them a couple of days before and thus churn closer to the 25th the following month?

I want to avoid/minimise the amount they take following my churn. Worst case scenario is they debit a months' worth after I churn and thus negating the savings I might have had.

    Hope that makes sense.

Level and quality of service reminds me of MyRepublic. Horrible if anything happens. Roll the dice, but not a good deal in my books. Use if you're headache and time is worth less than $10.

    • Looks like someone disagrees with me but didn't want to voice their disagreement lol

  • +1

Exetel and Superloop have both stuffed me around with connection times.

Superloop took 2 days to tell me it’s not NBN but Opticomm and then another 48 hours of no connection (when I thought all issues had been resolved and they could connect me straight away). Exetel did something similar last year.

Why's internet just getting more expensive, yikes. I really thought that we would see Australian internet become competitive with other leading countries one day. But at this rate it feels like it can only get more expensive.

    • +1

It's cause of the new NBN price increases. Your other option is 5G home internet which is pretty competitive because it's better value but not ideal for gaming.
Australian internet was never competitive and never will be, because they want to segregate fast upload speeds for business/enterprise use. Additionally, the Liberals turned the original NBN plan into the mess it is today with use of existing copper technology. Now it's costing taxpayers more (roughly $20b more) to rebuild the NBN with fast track FTTP in all homes.

      • Yeah I see, do you happen to know why NBN increased the price?
The upload speeds are so bad, I can't believe there are no commercial options for mirrored upload. I've looked into 5g for the better upload alone, but unfortunately not available in my area.

  • Thanks OP! completed application at 12:10. Service ported from ABB and active 12:40. Config of modem <2mins and up and running with no drama. Always been reluctant to leave ABB as their service was top notch, but the $'s drove the final decision. We'll see what the stability is like over time. At the end of the 6 months, I'll be on double the speed than ABB for same price and have the option to look for an alternative for another cheap 6 months.

  • Existing customer, and I was going to cancel as Launtel had a better deal at 250/25 ($90/mo). They matched it for 12 months.

Yes overseas call centre but they pick up fast. Much better value than Aussiebroadband. I haven't had issues.

I'm on HFC - sufficient backhaul, don't see congestion issues.

  • Damn I'm with aussie bb 50/20 unlimited for $85 per month! Might have to switch now. Does it come with voip?

  • If you have access to TPGs, Vision Network (NBN competition), check out https://capti.com.au/

    $89 p/m for 250/40 g.fast
    $69 p/m for 100/40 vdsl2

I was churning between Exetel/SL/ABB for a long time, but the 30day notice and PPPoE is overly annoying

  • I used to be with them for 10+ years. Had issues every now and then but nothing major. The only thing was when I moved houses they didn't offer the same plan and asked me to sign up for a higher plan as the previous plan is no longer there. So obviously they don't offer much for loyalty etc.

Now with Spintel, and been with them for over 2+ years. Never had and issue yet.

  • Noob question. Hopefully someone can explain.
I am currently in process of upgrading to FTTP with tangerine, after that 6 months, can I still come back to Exetel for their lower speed plan (say 25/10) or minimum plan is always 100/20 after the upgrade?
(reason: I am living by myself and does not need the faster speeds)

  • Hi all, does anyone know if exetel nbn works with belong routers?

I switched over to them last Thursday and haven't been able to get a connection. I've never had an issue with any other provider with this router so im unsure if its the router or something else.

    • Have you entered the PPPoE settings in the modem that would have been emailed to you?

      • yes, still didnt work

        • I'm afraid I can't help you because I'm unfamiliar with the modem. I suggest calling Exetel and seeing if they have a guide.

  • Just moved to exetel. Only getting 46 mbps unlike 52 from telstra. But saving $40 PM.

  • Can someone who signed up recently confirm there are no credit checks?

  • +1

Signed up yesterday, no credit checks.

Was with AussieBB (HFC), didn’t bother notifying them that I was churning. Got an email from Aussie saying sorry to see you go and then 5 mins later I was live on Exetel. Pain free experience.

    • +1

      Thanks mate

  • I just connected to them on 25/5 (HFC) but feel they're very slow, even slower than tangerine in similar speed!

On my phone i can't even get weather zone app to load?? Don't think it's phone issue as no problem prior to switching over?

    • Plug directly into the router and run a Speedtest. Also power cycle your router and NBN box.

      • Power cycled both NBN box and router, then plugged directly into router for speedtest. Looks OK but phone apps are struggling to load (just keeps buffering/infinite loop), not sure why? Desktop seems ok.

        • Did some googling, disabled CG-NAT on My Exetel account and that seemed to do the trick.
