  • No lock in contract, but must give 30 days notice - seems to be the norm now :(

You're a new customer after being away for 6 months.

I currently use them and find the service to be excellent. Consistently get 105Mbps on my 100/20 service.

30/11 EDIT: 50/20 plan updated for December price rise.

            new members yes

I was with them for 7 months starting from November last year and never had one done by them. Never previously with them before.

            • @Nousernamehere: may be your are the selected few they dont bother.

it clearly says in T&C (it may)

When you order a service, Exetel may give information about you to a credit reporting agency to obtain a consumer credit report about you and/or allow the credit reporting agency to create or maintain a credit information file containing information about you. This information may include the details given by you to Exetel when ordering your service.

              • +1

@lazydesi: Critical word - "may". It's a blanket statement so they can check if they deem you're a higher risk customer.

              • @lazydesi: I’m a new customer, no credit check

              • @lazydesi:

may be your are the selected few they dont bother.

As has been shown in this deal and plenty of previous ones, they have it in their T&C’s that they may do a credit check but appears more often than not they don’t do it any more (if they do at all).

              • @lazydesi: also didn't get one was with them 6 months ago

          • +1

@lazydesi: Nope signed up a few months ago no credit check. Never been a member before.

    • -1

      Yes they do

    • Nope, can’t see any credit enquires done by them . I was a new customer. I have been with many others (superloop , ab , optus , spintel and tangerine) and only credit enquires i see on my file was by optus. Thanks

    • +15

The average consumer chooses 50/20 or 100/20 .. that’s a max $90 credit at any point from a single customer (at full price ) .. these guys operate with money to be deposited in advance of the billing period commencement (except first month which happens to be midway). I’d say it’s simply not worth their time to perform credit checks. We should be the one checking if they have the ability to provide continued services haha.

      • Can confirm I've had great service from them over the past year and a half.
On the 100/20 with an FTTP connection and it basically never seems to go below the advertised 100 down, even during peak times.
I think there has been 1 outage in the time I have been with them, maybe 2 but I can only remember 1.
The 5x daily boosts per month is nice too, some people have reported that it doesn't work but I've only ever had that happen once and I didn't end up having the boost day deducted.

    • Yes, customer service told 5 points worth of credit check is performed.

    • Yes they do a credit check.

I joined them about a month or two ago. Showed up on my credit file

    • They did one for my pre-paid mobile service, not for Fibre tho

  • -5

I don't think you need to give notice if its just switching to a different provider. You simply sign up with the new provider and the service automatically ends with your old provider. TPG told me the same thing about 30 day notice, and then when I just switched and the 30 day notice thing just magically disappeared

    • +2

Could be the case on FTTN where it is only one line. With FTTP you can have multiple providers running in parallel, so a new one will just add the 2nd service without ending the 1st one.

    • +2

You can have up to 4 providers on NBN fibre (FttP).
Even if you transfer on the same fibre UNI D port you should still contact your old provider, in my experience, as some don't have billing systems that are smart enough to realise you have left.

      • correct. experienced with Superloop.

        • Yep, I transferred away from Aus Post NBN and received 2 months of billing and I transferred away 3 days before the next billing date (same UNI D port), yet their system still showed as active to their customer service staff. Took a long time to get it credited back.

          • @SimAus007: I was with Aus Post for their pre-paid 6 month deal but I didn't have the monthly auto pay box ticked. I transferred to More and Aus Post called me saying that I was late in paying the bill. They sent me another invoice for the next month too. LOL I just ignored it.

    • -1

According to Exetel T&C. The ETC (early termination charge) of 30 days notice only applies to long term contract (e.g. 12 months contract). It does not apply to month-to- month plans.

"Month-to-month contract: No Early Termination Charge (ETC) applies."

      • +5

This is from their Critical Information Statement under Cancelling Your Plan

You can cancel your nbn™ service at anytime by giving Exetel 30 days notice.

In other words, you're paying a minimum of 30 more days from the time your give Exetel notice, even if you churn away before then.

Early Termination Charges are contract related - which they no longer do.

        • +1

Yeah and if your service is shit because it’s their issue, you still need to give them 30 days notice…. 1 year later and I’m still fighting with them for 1 month as I did a backcharge. Previous nbn provider had no issues and the one after had no issues. Did a speed boost and worked wonders for a day then went back to super slow speeds. I get everyone/companies have issues but when they don’t acknowledge their faults and pin you, that’s when I’d start to worry

          • @Splashtash: I agree, theyre not worth the price with the extra month you may have to pay. Service was ok, but noticed now that ive had less dropouts at my poi since leaving them.
Terrible cust service as well, called accounts, couldn't hear them because of background noise and then they hung up on me when it got too difficult for them.
Churn to them at your own peril.

    • TPG's notice period has more to do with billing than anything else. They reserve the right to charge you for 30 days , so you will essentially be paying for two services, but only receiving one.

  • Hi.

How do you know if you will get free static ip when you sign up?

    • You don't see it on sign up. You need to opt out of CG-NAT and then you'll see your assigned IPv4 & IPv6 in the dashboard.

      • +1

        Thanks !

    • I got them to switch it over the phone. Took 5 minutes

  • +6

Dodo and Tangerine offer $5 cheaper on 100mb plan if that matters, the first 6 months.

    • No they aren’t. Dodo $75 and tangerine is like $2 cheaper

  • +14

They also gave me a "permanent" $10 a month discount, I really don't know why, maybe I was flagged as a constant churner (I had previously been switching every 6 months).

After my initial 6 month promo was up, they sent an email saying they will give me $10 off for as long as I stay with them, so I'm on the 100/20 plan for $74.95 forever and I'm happy with that.

    • +1

Same with me. Plus I moved my wife, my son, and my own mobile service to them. So now with the slash my bill bundle its $64.95 a month for 100/20.

      • Good to know that's a thing

    • Wish iinet would do that for me. Ive asked and they are like oh nah we couldnt possibly…..pay 5 bucks more than you for half the speed lol….time to leave i think

      • +8

Leave. Loyalty is not rewarded in utilities and insurance.

        • +1

          Or finance. Stop being sheep.

    • Same, I’m on 50/20 for $60.55 ongoing. Happy with reliability as well.

    • +1

I've just churned away from exetel, after the 6 month promo I also got the $10 off "for life", when I called to cancel they offered an extra $5 off.

      • Wow, they only offered me $5 off so I'm paying $69.99 a month and have to ring in every 3 months. I've been with them for like 10 years :-(

        • Yeah the extra $5 off would have been $68 something per month

    • Didn't happen for me for More Telecom, switched to Tangerine then to Exetel now (the 5 days speed boost can come in handy)

    • By 'they' do you mean dodo or tangerine?

    • Wow, I called to ask them to continue the original 6 month price, it was like pulling teeth, then they finally agreed but they are actually charging me more than the original discount but lower than the full price.

I'll be leaving them soon. Customer service is terrible. Speed boost does nothing. I actually came to this thread looking for a better deal.

    • Im paying exetel $70 for 50/20 :(

Do they have a number i can call to ‘cancel’?

  • How many days does it take to churn from another provider to this?

    • +4

      It's normally hours, not days.

    • +2

Depends on your tech. Fttp has the advantage of connecting more than 1 NBN provider at a time as you have 4 uni d ports. Simply connect with someone on a different port, you must request this eg pls connect on to my uni d 2 port, test connection and cancel old provider once satisfied with new connection, hence no downtime between churning. Other tech eg fttc, HFC, fttn is up to the gods. A few minutes best case scenario or couple of days worst case as per some telcos disclaimers

      • Do you actually save money this way? Since you usually need to give 30 days notice, if you only cancel the old provider once the new provider is connected, you'll be paying for both services for that month which pretty much nullifies any savings. Am I missing something?

        • Yes. Plan when you cancel. I plan to connect to the 3 months free with more telecom in Feb before the deal expires. So I contacted exetel and cancelled about 15 days ago. In 14 days I'll sign up to more. I usually play it safe and for 1 day pay both providers.

    • Are you talking about Tangerine? It took them 4 days to churn my FTTP…

      • Just went from More to Tangerine, im on FTTN and it took 4 days also.

        • I need to churn from More.
Did you churn at the end of a billing period ? Did you do anything to avoid another months fee?

  • +15

Exetel are crooks. Had issues with them and had to go to tio. They retained me after I said I was leaving and giving my 30 days notice. They back tracked on what they offered until the tio supported me.

Cashback $110 was never applied from Cashrewards and in fact the open claim is still pending 6 months later. The claim was meant to be approved several months before I decided to leave.

Never again from me. They are just crooks

    • +1

Hahaha ….. I just said the exact thing a little upwards…. Then read urs . The pain is real ey mate

    • +1

      Cashrewards also seem like crooks

      • +2

Cashrewards will only pay you if the provider pays them, so I wouldn't be pointing the finger at them. That's clearly stated in their terms that it's at the discretion of the vendor.

        • Agreed. It just shows that they exetel dishonesty runs all the way through the business and affects vendors too

  • +5

If you have an ABN their business 100/40 is only $80 a month for first 6 months with free modem, static IP and 5 minute support etc. I'm looking to switch from AussieBB where I'm paying $109 for the same.

    • Does it include landline

      • Looks like it's an add-on, like most other providers.

      • +1

It's best to separate your landline from your internet provider, as it becomes much easier to churn to a cheaper internet provider, and there's no risk of your number being "lost" during the churns. You can also make your landline divert to your mobile on the day when you are changing from one ISP to another, so zero downtime for the phone.

Check out the link in this deal for an alternative landline provider, I believe they're the cheapest ($10/month INCLUDING calls to mobiles and landlines, or $1/month with PAYG calls): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/684045

      • $0 for the number, or $10/m if you want to make calls. I just ported the number and use it with answering machine.

  • +1

Was with Exetel and no issues. Unlike other providers, be aware the 30 day notification to leave. This is shown when signing up. Looking above interesting to see people have somehow manager to get good ongoing monthly rates. I left and joined Leaptel, which I've had no problem with also.

  • What prices does it revert to after 6 months, worth staying on or does it jump up by alot

    • Click the link up above to go to Exetel's website. it'll show you the discounted and full price - they vary.

      • +2

Have aussieBB 50/20 for $79 atm, exetels 100/40 for $69 looks enticing, im afraid of worst customet experience and service quality tho.

Anyone got any exp? What do ya reckon, should i make the switch?

        • do not

        • I've been with Exetel for almost a year now. Have 100/20 and 3 mobile services with them. Not had 1 issue with any service. Also had NBN service set up for my father, not any issues with that either. Have had 1 mate join Exetel recently and he hasn't had any issues either.
I've not had to contact support for any reason, so can't really comment on their support quality … but maybe that speaks about their service quality to begin with.
Others I see here have had issues. Perhaps it is luck of the draw… which is much the case wherever you choose really.

        • +1

Customer service with Exetel is overseas, unlike Aussie BB or Leaptel.
Depends if that is important to you and of course, your budget plays a part in this also (service vs price).

        • +4

          Do it.

Been with them for 6 years, they are awesome.

        • 100/20 is $69; 100/40 is $75

        • Nothing major. Occasionally they have some "upgrade/maintenance routines" but will send a notification email well in advance.

  • I found the service to be terrible, I switch to LeapTel and it's been a dream.

    • +1

I found the service to be terrible

      In what way?

    • I just churned to leaptel from superloop (exetel)

Speeds are better but I have a weird 1 sec delay connecting to websites via wireless devices

Hope its just the access point not the new server location

  • with Exetel since 2010-ish, happy with their 50/20 FTTN service and price. Don't want to leave for 6m to get better pricing…

    • +2

Don't want to leave for 6m to get better pricing…

      Thanks for letting us know.

    • The grandfathered plans are pretty unbeatable

They let you change address and keep it too btw

  • +1

They still use vlan and PPPoE?works with Telstra smart hen 2 modem or not?

    • +1

No VLAN, Yes PPPoE, Yes Smart Modem Gen2

  • +1

Free static IP if you're not behind CG-NAT.

So if im behind a CGNAT, will it cost to get out of CGNAT?

Aussiebb did it for free, does exetel also do this?

Need to be able to vpn yo home network..

    • Nope, a click of a button in My Exetel.

    • +2

I think the OPs wording isn't clear.
You can opt-out of CGNAT easily via the web control panel, and you get a static IP (or at the least sticky - mine has never changed). No cost.

      • +1

        Added another sentence for you!

  • I just noticed that product review have this at 2.1 stars. Have the experiences been that bad? I've been on the spintel deal from the last OzBargain deal and it's been fine service

    • +1

I’ve been with Exetel for quite some time on and off. No major issues, and when I did have legit billing issues they were resolved.

    • +1

I think people only complain if they have an issue with them.

      • Aussie BB is 4.5 stars though

        • ABB isn't perfect but going from Telstra to them was a breath of fresh air. I could actually speak to a tech, and the same one from call to call. They were competent and knew what they were talking about even if the solutions weren't perfect. (The only firmware on their Netcomm modems that didn't cause me issues with IPV6 was the latest experimental one when I joined). Anyway after years of declining service and nightmare headaches with Telstra I'm willing to pay a bit more.

        • Aussie BB is very very good. You pay a little extra for that quality though

  • I just made the switch yesterday and it was a flawless transition, the hardest part was finding a pin to reset my modem to be able to access it to change the user/password (yes, i forgot the password/changed it at some point).

I was previously with Tangerine, 25/10 plan $45 for 6months $60 after, and switched to the exetel $54 50/20 plan for 6months.

Did a bit of streaming and online gaming and it was great.

Tangerine were fine, a few random outages here and there over the past year and evening speeds weren't the best some days, but overall, it suited my minimal needs.

  • How are these guys for gaming pings? So far I have found (strangely) for the two ISPs I've used since switching to 250/25 plans:

    1. Tangerine
    2. Superloop (currently on)
