Thanks OP! I still have a few episodes of Shantaram to watch.

    • Nice, I might take a look at Shantaram. Struggling to find things to watch atm. Thanks

    • +13

Don’t bother with shantaram. Instead checkout Silo, Hijacked, after party, Ted laso and platonic.

      • +3

Shantaram is better than the reviews suggest, its pretty true to the book but reviewers are of course applying the current narrative to something that was written 20+ years ago.

        • It’s pretty true to the book but somehow the tv adaptation is horrifically boring.

        • I'd say Shantaram is one of the best books I've ever read. I bought a fake copy in Khaosan Rd before I flew to India and read it over there while traveling around Rajasthan. It's a big book but I found it hard to put down. Johnny Depp bought the movie rights but it got canned whne the Hollywood writer's went on strike. I should watch it on Apple

      • +2

Ted was good first couple of seasons…

      • +1

Big Ted Lasso fan first 2 seasons, but this latest season really s**t the bed.

        • watched 1 episode and thought it was overrated never bothered with it again.

I resigned up but looking at what's avail I've already watched them all previously, Hijack, Silo Foundation etc via other means

    • I'm reading the book and it doesn't finish lol

    • +1

I am playing Shantaram but subtitles aren't working for me. Anyone know how to fix this?
Considering its Apple, I had high expectation when it came to UI and user experience but its not as good as Netflix or Amazon.

Update: its working on web version of Apple TV+ but not on AppleTV+ on Desktop

  • +6

Doesn’t stack with the last one month free

    • +2

I've set a reminder for a month's time, then will try it once previous expires

      • will do. just signed up with the one month trial lol -_-

        • +1

I did this earlier in the year. It wouldn’t go through til my existing trial expired. I just now renewed with this post as my last trial had expired. Fingers crossed it works for you.

  • +12

Redeem this offer in the next week or so and then let it lapse before redeeming this offer before 30 Sep.

    • Do this one first?

My current expires early August tho, so I assume it'll just stack 2 months onto it.

2 months is better than 1 tho!

      • Only because this offer has no known expiry whereas the other has a known one expiring 30 Sep.

        • +2

Code expires August 24th per the OP

Not sure why they left the expiry section as unknown

          • @NotBritishorUK: Ah!
            I totally missed that.

Perfect for you then to do it the other way around.

            • @ESEMCE: Better to do single month?

That extends my Apple TV to September 10th.

I'm confused, is there a way to use both?

              • @[Deactivated]: Sorry I thought you were already on the 1 month offer.

                • @ESEMCE: I haven't used either yet

My current sub expires early August tho.

                  • @[Deactivated]: So you'd be better off just using this one then.
Then starting a new account for the other. They'd overlap a bit, but not by much.

                    • @ESEMCE: I used the one month offer first and now I cannot subscribe to the 2 month offer now. It was better to accept the two month offer.

I got this message "This offer is only available for new subscribers."

                      • @[Deactivated]: I tried earlier today and it said the code was already used. I tried again but enabled scripts from google and gstatic on the apple website and it worked. Try without adblockers etc.

                        • @Elyxar: Apple automatically renewed after the trial expired. I had to wait until they refunded and then I applied this code. Got the free 2 extra month after the first free month. The shows seem to be pretty good so far.

    • +1

      Good suggestion 👍

    • +2

I wasn't able to redeem the 1 month free. Said I maximised the redeems.
Made a comment on that offer that was hoping to watch the Steph Curry doco
This 2 month one worked……..Apple TV gods monitoring

  • +1

    Thanks, OP!

  • It says new subscribers only.

    • +2

Why is that being downvoted. When i attempted to apply it, it sent a message new subscribers only.

      • +6

Because it works for many people who aren’t new, including me.

        • +1

can confirm my last expired last month, renewed no problem with this deal

    • +5

You'd almost definitely need to have no current active service.
My last 3 month free trial expired 25 March and this applied happily.

Worst case, set up a new account,

      • +1

Eligible returning customers. So I guess this is a targeted offer?

        • -1

          Eligible returning customers.

          returning from where?

  • +1

    Yay, thanks OP!

  • +1

    Thanks op - claimed it!

  • Well what's the code

  • Why not make it free to everyone for the next 2-3 years until they build a respectable library/catalog.

    • +1

Name one streaming service with a respectable library…

    • +7

Funny you mention that - they are doing a decent job now, there are some good tv shows to watch.

I was very skeptical when they started but now I have to say that they proved me wrong. Plus, heaps and heaps of free trials…

      • +4

they have good shows etc but not enough to pay a year round subscription, you can quickly get through the new releases

      • Lots of free trials because they don't have enough content to keep people interested after a month or 2. They're relying on people to forget they have the subscription and to keep paying it.

    • +2

Because there already is a respectable library.
Compared to say Netflix which is 80% trash these days, I've found everything I've watched so far to be either enjoyable, or still quality but not my taste.

      • Compared to Netflix, i think it's the other way around. Theres 2 maybe 3 series worth watching on apple tv.

        • +4

          Completely false.

        • Netflix has bulk, not necessarily quality.

      • Apple tv is only worth it with free trails, dud, the selection on netflix is huge in comparison

    • They already have some good free content, good doco series about human development I watched on my ipad a few years ago.

  • +1

Thanks op @InTheMarket. Now I just need to find same for Apple Music. Anyone?

  • +1

Thanks Op - worked for me when the other one posted here earlier in the week didn’t.

  • +1

    Nice, thanks!

  • +1

Nice one. Will use it after current one month one

  • +19

Just for those who aren't on Apple TV or have yet to try it, this streaming service has been my go to for quality Original shows. Below a list of shows i've seen all with the Rotten Tomatoes scores:

    Platonic - 92% RT
    Silo - 87% RT
    Foundation - 86% RT
For All Mankind - 90% RT
    Ted Lasso - 89%
    Pachinko - 97%
    Severance - 97%
    Black Bird - 90%
    Hijack - 87% RT

    • +4

Very high production values on all of these and apple's shows, I think the imdb scores are more of an accurate reflection, Foundation 86% is a stretch.

      • +5

I liked Foundation. I am sure there are others like me. I liked that there were so many Taboo topics on it about humanity's future.

        • Sentient AI with a soul or just programming?

        • Possible implications of forcing the Sentient AI to make it do horrible things that goes against its own beliefs.

        • Dictator/Ruler replicating itself with cloning tech and creating a dynasty. Is that one person or multiple. Can they turn on each other?

        • If the replication process has a discrepancy, is it humane to kill the mutated individual?

        • Is it ethical to have fully developed clones sitting in storage as backups/fallbacks in case the primary gets destroyed?

        • Can science / maths predict the future. If it can, would it be a self fulfilling prophecy or a genuine predictor of the events to come?

        • Killing millions of innocent people to avenge the death of millions that were killed in an attack, is that a justified action?

        • Scientific advancements can feel like magic or divine intervention. Is it one complementing the other or it's just one and the other doesn't exist?

I am sure there is more to it if I think…. quite interesting if you ask me.

        • +1

Just wait for the Amazon Warhammer series , then we will see a new level of ethical topics to cover off.

      • +1

How do you 'gender and race swap' a character in an original screenplay?

        • -1

          Easy.

Foundation, for example, is an Apple Original program based on a famous book by Isaac Asimov, very loosely based apparently. It has extensive race and gender swapping of key characters.

I didn’t say original screenplay, don’t straw man me. Apple Original screenplays are natively woke.

          • +3

            @Grok:

Apple Original screenplays are natively woke.

            What does this mean?

            • +4

@PiratePete1911: It means bigots get their knickers in a twist because of inclusive plots & casting.

          • @Grok: I wasnt straw manning you, I was asking a question because the vast majority of scripts are original and not based on books or previous works. So when you complain about gender and race swaps, you are only talking about the very small number of adapted screen plays?

Also do you really think that in 20,000 years humanity will have the same racial groups we have today?

            • -1

@dtc: Most movies and series are based on books, previous IP or based on historical figures, almost all the good ones are one of those.

These shows are now routinely gender and race swapped either explicitly or implicitly like when the male main character is made a minor character in their own movie.

Surely you know the numerous examples? Don’t be coy.

        • +1

Brown people and women. It's political correctness gone mad.

      • +2

100% this, But people jump on your back for saying so, Some good shows and good video and Audio but sadly some of the shows are ruined by their social agendas.

        • +3

like Ted Lasso has gone completely off. Just stick to it being a feel good comedy without getting into political issues and topics.

          • +1

@Frozensage: yup, funny you mentioned that, That was probably one of the main ones in my mind , I absolutely loved the first season and then….WOW what a drop.

    • +1

Thanks for the list! Haven’t heard of a few of those so will give them a go. I really enjoyed Shrinking as well, has a 82% RT score.

    • +2

Black Bird was great, slips under the radar and doesn't get the attention it deserves. The wife like Bad Sisters and The Last thing he told me.

    • +6

Sad that people still think Ted Lasso is the only good thing on the service….

      Here are some more.

      The Afterparty 93%
      Shrinking 82%
      See 83% (audience)
      Drops of God 100%
      Bad Sisters 10%
      Slow Horses 97%
      Trying 94%
      Still 99%
      Tetris 82%
      Prehistoric Planet 90%

      Adding your list:
      Platonic - 92% RT
      Silo - 87% RT
      Foundation - 86% RT
For All Mankind - 90% RT
      Ted Lasso - 89%
      Pachinko - 97%
      Severance - 97%
      Black Bird - 90%
      Hijack - 87% RT

      • Drops of God was amazing!

  • +1

Got it sorted cheers OP - now hopefully to stack with the new round of 6 month promo for Playstation users

  • +1

If you've seen the originals already, there's little else to hold interest. Haven't logged in more than once since getting the 3 months Telstra deal.

  • +1

They have good shows, I just don't watch alot of TV!

Netflix puts out a lot of product weekly, which is probably why it's worth the money if you love TV.

Other services struggle I feel, they don't have enough new content.

    Isn't Apple buying a Disney?

    • -3

There is a real danger that if Apple buys Disney it will create a woke wormhole to destroy the whole entertainment industry.

      /s

      • +3

Go Woke, Go….to be the most profitable company in the world.

        • -1

How profitable is Apple TV+ ?

They have to resort to constantly giving away subscriptions and many people still reject them.

Plus Steve Jobs was anything but woke.

      • +3

yes, which is why people are moving away from a lot of the mainstream hollywood content these days, Sick of the same old MESSAGE being above and beyond the importance of writing and character development.

  • +4

Foundation Season 2 just started, I really enjoyed the first season.
