  • anyone gone from google wifi to orbi??

    • Yep, Google wifi "just worked" and was solid but limited, moved to the RBK50 and it's been pretty good. The mesh occasionally dropped a few times early on but I haven't had that happen for ages.

    • I have used Orbi for about 3 years. They have have improved, but I won't be risking it again. They dumbed down the user control so much, it is very difficult to manage them. I had to go to the command line to config 2.4Ghz network I needed for some smart devices. They were also very very slow to boot and reconnect. Sometimes requiring a couple reboots of satellites for them to connect.

  • Is this worth upgrading from the rbk 50?

I've got a rbk 50 set & only downside is it seems to cap my download speeds on devices to about 100 Mbps.

Maybe want to look into your settings. I have RBK50 and no such issue. On an NBN 500/50 plan and getting 250-350 down 5m away on the Orbi presumably on 5Ghz band.

    • I don’t have this device, but there might be a limit set in the “QoS” (quality of service) settings that needs to be changed to match the maximum speed of your connection.

    • Damaged ethernet cable perhaps? Only allowing a 100mbit connection?

      • Apologies for delay, got around to doing this & you may have been right! Added this idea to another poster (cat 6 cables) & now getting 600 down!

        You're a legend mate!

    • I have had my RBK50 for at least five years and it still works great on my 1000/50. I am not getting those numbers due to NBN restrictions but I am getting around 800 using the speedtest on the router itself. I am getting around 500 via wifi

      • Check that the ethernet cable is CAT6 and not Cat5E

        • Mate you're a legend! Fixed this up & getting 600 down now!

  • Would these work in my RBS850 network? Great price if it gets me a mesh AP in my garage!

I've had nothing but issues with Orbi, have since moved to Deco and it's been great.

Same I got rid of Orbit and moved to Asus. Nil issues with Asus. Lots of reports on Netgear forum of orbit just dropping connection

    • Agree, also had endless drama with the Orbi, never again.

3 packs was less than $300 during the prime day last month.

  • I have had 3 packs system and very happy with it.
Sharing internet in the same building two units one under each other.
    Works well so far.

No reboot over the past three months.

Keep in mind, to use the Orbi app you need to agree to the netgear analytics collection policy. You also need to agree to their terms and conditions and privacy policy in order to use the product at all. That includes logging into the web ui to set it up.

Netgear make no mention of this requirement on the box or product website.

The only way to “opt out” is to request via email which their policy is that they will take note and continue operating in accordance with the law (basically a big F U)
