Crest Platinum Certified 8K HDMI 2.1 3m Cable $6 C&C @ The Good Guys Commercial / $15 C&C or in-Store @ The Good Guys

1940

Great price for a 3M 8K HDMI cable, but it's an INSANE price for a HDMI 2.1 certified one, which this is! Selling online elsewhere for $55-60 for identical item.

As reference, this previously popular deal posted for same cable type, $14 for 1.5m, 3m for $24 in the comments of this thread
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/703370

If you don't have access to TGG Commerical, gain access by joining Rest Super for free and have no balance (EDIT: comments below suggest there are fees even if you have zero balance @$78 per year. This hasn't been the case for me. Can others confirm? Elsewhere on OzBargain, I have seen someone suggest closing your account but never logging out and perks remain, so YMMV)
https://rest.com.au/why-rest/rewards

If you can't be bothered joining Rest Super, the cable is available through regular TGG for $15 which is still ridiculous cheap for certified 3M
https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/crest-8k-hdmi-cable-with-ethe…

TGG page doesn't say certified, but the Crest website shows certified when you scroll down to the bottom specs. Same product code

  • not able to checkout

    • Limit 5 per customer. Does that make a difference for you?

      • ordering only 2… cudnt get through

        • +1

ordered 2, paid by paypal, no issue.

        • +1

Try a different store. The store I bought mine from now can't check out, but other stores I can. Might be out of stock.

    • +1

Scroll up the page to see if an error message popped up somewhere. I missed that and it needed my phone number updated. Once that was done in profile, it went through smoothly.

  • If you need a really long optical HDMI cable

I remember when HDMI first came out people ridiculed brands like MONSTER having "high quality" HDMI cables. Now here we are.

    • +3

HDMI cables either work or they dont. But it doesnt mean there arent limitations to how much data the cheaper ones can carry.

      • Yep and every generation the useful length of passive cables gets shorter too.

    • +16

Monster get ridiculed for their ridiculous pricing.

      • +1

Well, they are kinda right though, by Monster, they mean Monster Prices.

  • +2

Thanks op, been looking for some HDMI cables so great deal!

  • Thanks op, grabbed two!

  • +3

Got 2, but unsure why, might get an 8k something in like 5 to 10 years.

    • Same here, although to be on the safe side where I may not ever use it, I only bought one.

    • My only justification would be that its cheaper than a regular 3M HDMI cable, but devices usually come with their own and I already have an optic fibre HDMI 2.1 cable, so I'll pass on this. Otherwise, if you need a spare HDMI cable, its a good deal for sure.

    • +5

It's more for gaming IMO. VRR, ALLM, 120Hz @ 4K, etc.

All of those features are used by current gen game consoles (i.e. Xbox Series S/X) and many TVs, like my 2021 higher-end Samsung.

And yes 120 fps makes a huge difference in games, and also enables things like 40fps in games that struggle to get to 60fps.

  • how can i create account on the website?

    • If you don't have access to TGG Commerical, gain access by joining Rest Super for free and have no balance
      https://rest.com.au/why-rest/rewards

      • would you still get charged admin fee?

        https://rest.com.au/super/understanding-fees
Administration fees and costs $1.50 per week $78 regardless of your balance

        • And if your account balance is less than $6,000, certain fees and costs charged to you in relation to administration and investment are capped at 3% of your account balance for the year (or the period until you left).

Look carefully at the page you linked

          • +1

@AwesomeAndrew: It clearly states "$78 regardless of your balance".
So I am guessing with $0 balance, they would charge $78 per year ?

How do I cancel the account? :-)

      • got 5, thanks

  • After you join rest super, what do you need to do? never mind i can see a post above mentioned the rewards section.

    • +2

Download the REST app and then check rewards, generate a TGG code and create a commercial account

      • I was doing it on the desktop and didnt realise you need to do it on the App itself.

  • Got 2. Thanks OP!

  • Im with rest but don't have TGG in my rewards section?

    • Check on the app you should find it.

  • Thanks. Grabbed two of them

  • Thanks, beats all the Amazon deals

This is listed as $15 retail. So you're not saving a huge amount of money.

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/crest-8k-hdmi-cable-with-ethe…

    • Well if you got 2 for $30 retail…
Think of it as buy 2 get 3 free on the good guys commercial…

The listed rrp on the crest website is $70 for one!

    • +4

I said it's $15 in the title and post, which is already great value. They're $55-60 elsewhere. For $6, that's 60% off alone from TGG. Not sure how much more you want to save? Really odd comment lol

  • Interestingly, in the order details, under QTY mine says "backordered" even though my store currently is still showing stock.

Edit - scrap that, received ready for collection email

  • I iust bought 4. These guys rival anything out there.
    10 year warranty
    2.1 certified
    48gps tranfer speed
    Gold plated.

    At $6 - bargain

  • wow super cheap. thanks!

  • Grabbed 5. That's red hot

  • This has been the most complete garbage of a checkout experience. 3 different cards have shown the 3D secure and verification code page, acts like processing and then just takes me back to the checkout page. Then tried Paypal, Paypal says I have been charged, but again the Good Guys page acts like not processed and takes me back to checkout page and no order history. And this is for delivery and continues to show delivery as option. What garbage.

    Anyone having similar problems?

    • Yeah this happened to me with Paypal. Got charged but the TGG website came up with payment error please use another method =/

    • -1

TGG's diversity hire IT team strikes again

  • Is Crest a decent brand? This cable would be good for my mini PC. It can't use 8k, but I do like to over-spec my cables and $15 seems like a fair price.

  • do I need one,
    no

    did I buy one,
    yes

    thanks Ozbargain lol

  • thanks OP ordered 50

    • +1

      Only 50? I got 100

  • If it's not monster…

  • How are you guys picking up? Or are there stores in Sydney that don’t have it? It’s only available for delivery

    • You are 2 hours late.

    • Heaps of stock everywhere before I posted this lol. OzBargained?

  • +2

You also get access to TGG Commercial if you're with QSuper/Sunsuper who are now Australian Retirement Trust

  • Not sure why but I ordered three for delivery. Let's see what happens. Hopefully I can sell one to recoup costs.

  • I missed the window where it was available for click & collect and shipping kinda kills the deal a bit.

    • $8 for 5.
Sell one to recoup delivery cost

  • Ordered 2 for delivery as my local store (5mins away) had none available. Get dispatch notification that cables are coming from local store 5 mins away. Oh well.

  • i have registered with Australian Retirement Trust weeks ago but never login to gooduycommercial until today.

got email welcome to ggcommercial and said first time need to reset my pass.
done it, but when i try to enter new pass, i got:

Your organization is not in our list of registered customers. Please verify and try again or contact your administrator.

  • thanks ordered 5

  • is Rest safe to sign up?

    • It states "$78 regardless of your balance".

      • without TGG membership this isn't really good deal

        • Yea, I didn't realise there was membership fees.
But we don't provide any bank details, how would Rest bill us?
Either way, looking to cancel the membership, but it is not clear how.

          • +1

@congo: Just checked my Rest account, I haven't been charged anything. I signed up in July 2022 and gave hardly any details. Not sure how they're meant to charge. I think you only get charged if you begin using their actual superannuation product and yoy will get charged still if your balance gets transferred out.

            • @NoApostrophePlurals: Thanks for this. Doesn't make sense for them to charge $1.50 per week if we haven't provided any details :-)

              • +2

@congo: They will add unpaid debt to your credit report and send debt collectors knocking on your door. Only kidding.
You will only get charged when you actually have your super with them.

However, if you are really concerned, you can contact them to cancel your account.

  • Cheers OP grabbed 3!

  • For Melbourne Metro areas, I am seeing the following message:

The store closest to you does not have this product for Click and Collect, but we can deliver it from our warehouse to your preferred location. Simply add this item to your cart and select ‘delivery’ at checkout.

Even with a $5 delivery fee, it is still a damn good bargain.

  • Came up as $5 for some reason? Grabbed 4 anyway, $28 delivered

  • You can get Commercial access with ART super as well

    • I have art but cant login to ggcomm

  • OMG, this is cheap! Last week I purchased 3 3M cables from Audioquest - Pearl. I can notice a visual improvement though using the audioquest cables when compared to cables from Bunnings.

  • -2

    Thanks, bought 5

    OOS

  • Need just one of these

  • +1

This product has either been removed or is no longer available for sale.

  • +2

For what it's worth, I have a couple of 3M variants from the last time this was on special - and both have occasional signal dropouts when gaming at 4K60 from a PC. I replaced with https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B081NXV3ZR and the dropouts are now fixed. The CableMatters cables are quite a lot less bulky too, and the smaller and lighter connectors are much nicer to work with around the back of a crowded Receiver !

    • +1

Did you get the 3m version of the CableMatters cables? I have the 2m version. 2m ones are not the same as 3m ones. At 3m, better wires need to be used, otherwise signal dropouts will happen.

Wish I knew these ones are not reliable (I thought these would have decent wires inside). Oh well, another FOMO purchase gone wrong. Haven't received them, on back order.

      • Haven't received them, on back order.

        You can call and cancel.

I am glad I missed out on this deal before they sold out / removed from TGGC.

      • I've got both 2M and 3M variants, but I can't remember if it was the 2M or 3M that fixed the 4K60 dropouts in my scenario, sorry !

    • +2

I wish you posted this earlier! I bought mine specifically for 4k120hz. If it drops out at 4k60hz, I don't think I stand a chance these will work without a hitch.

To all those who bought, as the OP, I deeply apologise for my excitement in posting this and I will attempt seppuku using the end of the HDMI cables.

      • I also use the same cables for 4K60 from a couple of other devices with no issue. It was specifically that one PC that they didn't like, for whatever reason.

Just flagging my experience, you'll probably be fine 😁

      • it specifically says on TGG listing it supports up to 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz resolutions… if it doesnt do that then surely we deserve a refund?

        • +1

You won't have any difficulty getting a refund. Just a pain in the a. For people to have to go into a store or repackage and send off if they do have problems. Not sharing they will definitely have problems, just unfortunate if they do and it's all my fault.

  • Just got a call from good guys. Cant get any more stock and my order cancelled

  • I ordered 4 cables and received 1 a few days later, with the remaining 3 on back order until stock was available.

Just got a refund for the 3 cables, but not the shipping costs. Kinda annoying as the shipping was slightly dearer for 4 and I probably wouldn't of ordered any if I could only get 1.

    • I'd contact them and compliain, you might get a refund!

  • I'm still waiting to hear anything about my order,(2 cables)
They took payment, including delivery, and I haven't heard anything since.

    • They might have refunded your payment.

      • actually it hasn't… the order still says 'processing' and it hasn't been reversed on my CC
        shrug
