Why arent these dropping in price?

    • +16

it's the current console why would it drop? Its $100 cheaper than RRP.

        • +19

All other consoles didn't launch during the midst of a global pandemic and chip shortage, amidst rising cost of production. Also, it's coming up on 3 years old, not 4.

          • -2

@witheredcouch: Wouldn't that be all the more reason for it to drop in price now that production costs are coming back down?

            • +2

@DeToxin: The prices have dropped, and given they have only in the past 6 or so months been in stock regularly, what incentive is there to sell it for less?

            • +1

@DeToxin: It means the company can get closer to breaking even or even profiting from console sales.

          • +1

@witheredcouch: Additionally, the newer CFI-1202 model uses a more power-efficient 6nm Oberon Plus chip, as opposed to the launch model, which comes with a 7nm chip. It is also 600 grams lighter and features a redesigned, smaller, and lighter motherboard with improved cooling.

Other parts of the world, like the UK, are seeing pretty significant discounts and there have been reliable leaks that a new version of the PS5 is coming soon with a detachable/optional disc drive that will replace the current Disc and Digital versions.

        • +5

          Sounds horrible

          • +7

@FrugalDealHunter: Horrible but also makes sense in a couple of ways. Means Sony can just produce the one SKU for the PS5s and you can buy a disc drive as a separate add on. In a sense its also potentially good for consumers as it means if your disc drive fails, its easier to send it off for repairs/replacement etc.

What worries me is that Sony will price gouge on the disc add on, because companies don't want discs anymore digital games retail for about the same as disc based games but it costs Sony money to create the discs + shipping etc. Digital games have a bigger profit margin, plus you never see digital games go as cheap as you see disc games (I got Spiderman PS4 for $8 at one point, it never went that low digitally).
Not to mention it kills off the second hand market, something Sony and Xbox want (they both want you subscribing to their services online).

        • +3

          sounds perfect!

        • Got any reliable sources that I can read about the new version?

      • Is the a new PS5 mini coming out in November? I heard some rumors but nothing official.

    • +3

Inflation - everything has been going up, and there has been plenty of demand. It wasn't that long ago you couldn't even get one. No need to drop the price as they were selling as many as they could make for a long time.

In fact, they put the price up a bit.

      • Not to mention the AUD is the lowest its been in a long time.

    • +3

If you factor in inflation, they have dropped in price

      • +3

WTH fanboi shite is this? Sony outselling Xbox and it's not even close mate. Jeepers.

        • -1

It's literally true. Go look up an inflation calculator.

          • +1

@MrMcHairyHead: Nah I wasn't replying to any rational post about inflation, it was in response to the Xbot going on about Sony being shit and Microsoft going along awesomely.

            • @sickaunt: Hmm, weird, I could've sworn your comment was a reply to the one above it, saying that 'if you factor in inflation, they have dropped in price'. I didn't even see the other comment until now.

      • +2

What are you talking about? Sony has sold nearly twice as many PS5s as Microsoft have Xbox Serieses.

    • +1

They have, when you factor in inflation. The RBA's inflation calculator only goes to 2022 but even then $699 in 2020 is the same as $766 in 2022. So $699 today is a saving of almost 10%, even before we factor in inflation during 2023.

      • Well not really a saving of 10% if your pay didn't go up 10%. And even if your pay did go up 10%, your rent probably went up more than 10% in the last few years.

    • You seen the Aussie dollar lately?

      • +2

Aussie dollar is thr greatest currency in the world

  • +11

They all come with a controller, reading this I initially thought it came with 2.

  • +1

Come with one or two dual sense controller?

    • It comes with 1 controller atleast based off the image. The original price release was $750 but they increased it to $800 sometime after the release.

  • +11

“With Dualsense wireless controller” is an unnecessary and confusing phrase here.

    • +7

I have grave fears for your future if you’re confused over that.

      • -1

I don't understand any of the comments asking about a second controller. It clearly says it's a console and a controller…

        • +7

Because you aren't going to sell a console without a controller, people might be thinking that means it includes an additional controller, perhaps?

        • +7

It’s like saying “Sedan car, comes with a steering wheel”

      • +7

I have grave fears for your problem solving skills if you don't understand why that's confusing and unnecessary.

    • +3

      dualsense doesn't mean "dual" controllers

      its always been 1 controller

    • It's always come with 1 controller since PS2 and dualsense is the PS term for their controller feedback. What on earth is the confusion here?

    • Sony will come up with another controller soon enough, making the "Dualsense" name necessary to tell them apart.

  • +16

So it doesn't come with a hdmi or power cable?

  • Has there been any leaks on a ps5 pro yet?

    • Nope

  • If only they accepted Latitude finance…

  • +1

Pretty cheap, considering the AUD went to shit

  • +2

The PS5 is going DOWN in price while the Xbox Series consoles UP.

    Crazy times to be alive!!!

    • and PS Plus has gone up substantially more % in the last week.

  • +2

You obviously have the whole catalogue, can you post the whole games section instead of drip feeding. Doesn’t make sense, part of OzBargain is sharing

    • +4

PS5 RRP is $799.95. This is $100 off.

      • -5

This is still not a deal. Anyone who actually pays $799 for a ps5 today deserves to be mocked.

  • Didn’t target remove their tech section from stores?

    • +1

      You’re probably thinking K-Mart…

  • OK, more practical question. Can we do better than 5% discount on giftcards or combo with Shopback or other buying method?

    Start: 699
    5% off: 664.05.
    ???:

    • How do you get the 5% discount on gift cards?

Scan your onepass/flybuys for 5x points instore purchase?

  • Can't view the Catalog online yet. Is Gran Turismo 7 going to be on sale ?

  • In terms of choice of games for their age group, is PS5 a good console for kids around 12 years old?

Already reduced their phone/tablet and computer gaming time, I figure if I can't stop them from playing altogether, might as well put it on the TV at least it's further away, and presumably better sitting posture.

    • I still remember I was so excited for owning a Gameboy and even though Tetris was the only game I had when I was 12.

    • +1

I would go Xbox purely for gamepass over PS5 for younger kids.

    • Spider-Man 2 for PS5 is coming next month and you can also get Spider-Man remastered and Miles Morales.

If you haven’t already, you can still sign up for their newsletter at the bottom of the page and get $10 off, bringing it down to $689

Showing as $799 on their website

    • +1

      In 3 days. :D

  • Reduced price to offset the rise in subscription for those multiplayer gamers.

    • Do you need subscription even if you have the disc?

  • This will have to reach $600 sooner or later and at such time, I shall bite.

  • when is GTA VI coming?

    • When its coming

  • Planning on a price match using discounted JB GC.

  • Does this mean the dualsense might be discounted too? I really want a second controller.

  • +1

Price has been updated online to $699

    • None of the other retailers have updated their prices to match this. I don’t see the Nintendo switch price being updated though. :(

  • 'Save and continue' grayed out on the Target online purchase page?

  • I tried price matching with JB Hi-Fi on live chat and with the store but was unsuccessful. I ended up buying from Target delivered from the warehouse to the store.

    • Why's that? Did they give you a reason?

It's not like $699 hasn't been done before.

      • I tried price matching at BigW as well. They would have none of it saying it's an "online only" price, which is garbage as it's click and collect.

        • That’s weird.. my big w just did it with very little questions

      • It appears that Target's website previously only offered the option to order items from their warehouse to store, yesterday ,which did not allow for price matching. However, as of this morning, it seems that Target stores now have stock available for click and collect, which does allow for price matching with other retailers. Initially, I ordered through the first option but then discovered that the second option would allow me to receive the PS5 more quickly.

    • I got Jb Hi Fi to price match it without any questions. Showed the link and they said, sure, we can do that.

  • Price has already dropped to $699 on Targets website.

  • Managed to get Big W to price match

  • Price matched through JB live chat yesterday, but did not go ahead and cart expired at midnight.

Lost interest due to kids did not ask for it, and there's no game in particular anybody wants to play.

    What a strange phenomenal.

  • +1

I did a live chat with JB and asked them could I get a price match. After a few minutes they said yes no worries and gave me a custom URL link to order from with $100 off the price. I then paid and went to my local store to pick it up. But he said I could've done delivery as well.

He also told me "this deal is only until midnight" but he also leaked me info saying "don't worry if you can't get it today, apparently we are going to have the PS5 Consoles on sale very soon" "You can pick one up then if you like"

So it seems JB is going to have PS5 consoles on sale soon according to what the rep told me.

    • You are correct, it’s selling for $678 :)

  • Target has dropped it to $649 now
