    I'm worried there's a catch somewhere.

    • +4

      Finding one in store probably.

      That price though, hot damn!

    • +8

      The phone isn’t anything special.

      • +5

Yep, I got one at $399 and it was a buggy mess. At first, I didn't experience any of the problems people reported online but after a while, everything turned to shit. The phone started getting hot, the fingerprint unlock would seldom function, randomly dropped cellular connectivity and apps would get stuck on the screen when dragging up from bottom. This is all the phone is worth, unfortunately. I sold it and went to back to Samsung for my sidepiece Android phone.

        • +1

disappointing from a major tech company like Google. Even cheaper Motorolas don't have so many issues.

          • +2

@shxhshzhz: Absolutely, I would rather purchase a Motorola to be honest. They seem to get a pretty good wrap.

          • +2

@shxhshzhz: Common Mate don't compare Moto to Pixels. Moto phones are way better than Pixel apart for Camera.

          • +3

@shxhshzhz: I gave up in google after the pixel 4 I think after using a few pixels. The pixel 2XL was probs my favourite but they kept getting bigger and QC kept dropping over time.

For a company as big as Google? They weren't ever getting my money for a phone again.

        • Have had one since it came out. I have only had one issue since then where my keys would accidentally turn on the torch in my pocket, causing it to overheat. That issue was resolved very quickly be Google.

        • I have had mine since February and have had none of these issues. Even the fingerprint unlock, whilst a lot slower than my Poco F3 was(I wish every device would have a power button fingerprint), it has been fine. Mine has been a rock solid phone, that just works.

        • That's a shame, I've been using a 4a 5g for over two years and it hasn't missed a beat. Was hoping to upgrade to one of these.

          • @yobeets: It seems your mileage may vary, as (completely stock), this has been the most stable smartphone I have had, probably since my One-Plus One after I had found the right rom (which I switched to because my Nexus 5 at the time was quite unstable).

      • "The phone isn't anything special"?

Well, that's a bit like saying a Toyota Corolla isn't anything special because a Ferrari is faster, a Range Rover has more space, a Rolls Royce is more luxurious and a Mercedes G Wagon is better off road.

But… most people use their cars to drive to the shops and back and Corolla can do this just as well as any of the above. And it's $30K.

I've no doubt a $2500 iPhone is better in all respects, but for browsing the internet and taking the odd photo the Pixel 6a is fine.

        • funnily enough based on blind tests the Pixel 6a's camera is top notch. IIRC MKBHD did.

  • @Did you get one?

  • Could someone please help me to find out that I have Samsung galaxy A8 (2018)
Thats not listen at JBhifi's trade in portal.
Can I trade or is it not ?

    • +5

You can't, your trade in item must be listed to qualify.

      • I had a quick look at the list and it all seems to be iPhones. I guess JB thinks that Android phones don't hold the value too well.

        • It's on the site after you click the link, there are a few eligible categories.

          • @Hiphopopotamus: Sorry i quickly edited my comment after i suddenly found the list. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jbtradein

            Sorry about that.

Seems to be only iPhones that you can trade for the credit?. Well that's all i see listed and no Android phones.

            • +2

@hollykryten: I see 12 categories including Pixels, Samsung and Apple stuff, gaming stuff, Dyson etc.

              • @Hiphopopotamus: Oh yeah here it is for Android phones from another link. There are no Samsung phones on the list so no go there.

                https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au/androidphone-c

But you seem to get quoted bugger all for Android phones even in no cosmetic defects state. I mean it's quoting only $130 trade in on a Motorola Edge 30 5G in no cosmetic damage condition.

                • +1

@hollykryten: Yep, the deal is the $300 coupon.

                  • -1

@Hiphopopotamus: You only get a fixed $300 coupon with iPhones. And the $300 is for the iPhone 11.

With Android phones it's all over the place and it depends on the phone brand, model and condition.

There's a good chance if you're wanting to trade in an Android phone that you won't get any where near $300 unless it's an expensive enough and newer phone.

I mean for an example they're only giving out a $90 trade in credit for the Motorola Moto G82 5G in no cosmetic damage condition.

The same phone that they sell brand new for $499.

                    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/motorola-g82-5g-128gb-met…

So unless you have a really expensive and modern Android phone then you're probably not going to get even $100 trade in credit.

                    • @hollykryten: The $300 coupon is on top of the trade in value, which comes as a GC.

                      • @Hiphopopotamus: Crazy promotion then. I find of incredibly hard to think that JB would give out a $300 discount coupon (for to buy a phone that they're selling for $399) with say a traded in phone worth say $60 or so.

    • Samsung Galaxy A8 is a tablet. It's actually Samsung Galaxy Tab A8. But i'm afraid only the Tab A8 2021 model is listed for trade in. And even that only gets $90 trade in credit for no cosmetic damage condition.

      https://jbhifi.squaretradeup.com.au/samsungtablet-c/samsung/…

      • But I have samsung galaxy A8 (2018) old phone.

        • Ahhh my mistake. I never knew that phone even existed.

  • +5

    Buy iPhone 8 from Coles $200, get $60 + $300 trade-in on $399 Pixel, net cost $238.

(what happens when they find the iphone is an non-AU model? )

    • Either they won't care or they will, in which case they offer you a lower value or reject the trade in and send it back to you.

That coupon should still be good though.

    • -2

      You loose your Knee caps.

    • +13

it won't work, you need to give the imei for the trade in and they validate whether it is an australian phone. if not then then you can't get past that step for the trade in.

      • Good point, I missed this.

      • +1

        Entering IMEI is optional

        • +1

yes mate, optional until you send them the device and they discover the device isn't australian, so they charge your card for the full amount of the giftcard they gave you

    • Under their FAQ: What devices are eligible for trade-in?

      We only accept Australian devices

      • +1

My European trade-in phone 'identifies' as being Australian.

    • Is the iPhone 8 even worth $60. lol

      • Cex will give you close to $250 for 8plus 256gb if you have box, charger and cable and $180 for i8 64gb

    • -1

I recently bought an iPhone XR from Coles. Unfortunately the iPhone is not an AU model and they did not accept my phone for trade-in.

    • Well you got to move fast it’s a bargain after all

    • +2

Well Perth residents still have another 2 hours on top of that, I known they may seem foreign but they're still Australians too

      • +1

Yes 1/3 of the country in fact!

      • +1

        Yep. Almost the same country.

  • wait i have pixal 5 sitting around, i just checked online and jb website says 50$ trade in value so is that 300+50 or just 300$?

    • +5

      $300 coupon and a $50 GC.

      • cool

        • Instead of sending the 5 to them, sell it to Cex for $120. They will only charge you the $50 trade in for not receiving it.

          • @drankn: Yes, but your account will be blacklisted for future trade-ins.

    • Suggesting not to trade in pixel 5. Keep it for your photos upload. It's better than this 6a

  • Anyone managed to find any stock in WA?

  • Is the trade in bonus only for phone trade in? Can I trade in my Apple Watch to get the bonus? Than you

  • +30

I have a pixel 6a in hand, trade-in value $150, then buy again for $99? Which means $50 profit for a new phone?

    • +13

      Unlimited money hack unlocked.

    • +2

      holy

    • +1

I can imaging a line of people paying buying the pixel 6a outright then trading in the unopened boxes until profit.

  • how can we check instore stock, without.. going in store 😂

    • +3

Get someone on ozbargain to call each store in your area for you and report back. I can't see any other way.

  • +1

    Has anybody actually done this?

The phone doesn't even come up on their website.

    • If only someone uploaded a photo.

  • +3

Many stores still have the display but no actual stock. Was told there is very little stock at all anywhere when i asked if other stores had them.

  • +1

why do deals that have pretty much no stock left anywhere get so popular? Has anyone even got it for $99?

    • They may have had stock and people utilized this deal to make profit but either didnt post it here or not users on here. It isnt on their website now which usually means none have stock as it usually remains on website even if 1 store had stock but who knows when it was taken down

  • I assume it doesnt matter if the phone is cracked or not the bonus trade in still applies?
Did anyone try south west sydney for stock ill check tomorrow if not.

  • On Google website it’s same deal

    • Link?

      • +2

Same ticket price, without the obvious $300 bonus trade

  • I have one galaxy watch active 2 with screen not working but internals working. I've also got another watch active 2 with screen not responding to touch but no physical damage, will I be able to tradein either of these?

    • Looks only the 3 and up

      • Traded my partners old active watch 2 it's an option there somewhere 👍

        • Yes there is an option for watch active 2. But just wondering that if a watch with non functional screen eligible. If I select damaged screen, it gives me $0 for tradein but if I select internal defect it gives me $1.

  • So how does this here trade deal work anyways,

Lets say the missus has 2 old iPhone 6S's in storage doing nothing for years, two devices accepted by the program I see online (albeit with literal $0 value) … could I throw one of them at this, pop a 300$ voucher basically, and upgrade it for 99 buckaroos or am I missing something?

    • Are they accepted? I don't think so. You will not get a code.

      • You're right! The zero tag I saw and assumed meant they would just take it off your hands…nope, it's zero bucks, take it somewhere else. Good lookin' out.

    • T&C say trade in value of $1 or more for the $300 voucher.

  • Is it applicable on 256gb?

  • The $1656 min cost over 24 months is the real bargain /s

  • Any stock anywhere?

    • +2

      Unlikely.

  • +1

Well this is disappointing… I JUST got the $300 voucher. LOL

  • -3

Anyone has spare trade in voucher !!!

  • -1
