Thanks OP, grabbed two for Xmas presents

    • +1

grabbed 2, one for myself one as present , compared to my faber castell these are not over priced for everyday pens.

  • +5

    I hardly use pen nowadays…

    • +5

That's how you show off your riches

    • same, but suffix is to pen

  • +2

Awesome pen - picked one up from a previous deal. Very nice to write with.

    • +2

Probably will not match Amazon UK, but worth a try

    • This is from Amazon UK though.

    • Out of stock anywhere near Brisbane, OW head office couldn't pricematch, YMMV

    • +2

Just did that via the phone. Cancelled my Amazon order and they’re shipping it to the store for me to C&C

  • $40 for a pen….? Why…?

    • +2

      Why do you think?

      • +1

I really don't know why… This looks like a regular pen… So not much of a flex

        • +3

Do you buy premium goods for reasons other than to flex?

    • +10

One of those things that some people appreciate more than others, writing with a quality pen is enjoyable, comforting for some - also makes for good gifts

FWIW I generally use a generic sub-$2.00 clicker pen from the stationary cabinet at work, but when I use my quality Montblanc at home (gift from previous employer) it just feels so nice. Sure, a Camry will get you from A to B, but wouldn't you rather do it in a Porsche (yes, I know, stupid analogy, but poetic licence and all ….)

      • +1

Why does it feel nice? What makes it feel nice?

        • +3

Balanced, smooth to write with, smooth action, feels well-engineered, quality materials.

        • +2

          Easier to insert?

      • +1

Love my Montblanc pen as well. Never dries out and just keeps writing without fail. No comparison with the el cheapo bics et al.

A couple of idiots called it a status symbol, but the truth is very few people know what it is, they just see a pen I write with or sign my name. I never draw attention to it by telling people what it is. It's simply a pen, that's all they need to know.

Mine was also a gift from a previous employer.

        • Nice employer. Who was that

          • @misguided_will: Sounds like AustraliaPost.. 😅

            • +1

@WasBargain: Wouldn't work for that mob even if you paid me double. Had my share of working for useless idiots in my time. Never again.

Australia Post would be a vastly different organisation if I'd had anything to do with it. But we can but dream.

          • +1

@misguided_will: Just an IT company I worked for back in the 1990's. They got taken over after I left and now seem to have vanished completely, but the IT world changes so quickly, and what we did back then has long been superseded by newer technologies.

      • I (profanity) received an empty box. As soon as I opened the package, the box lid was already flipped open and the pen was not inside…

    • +10

It’s the blend of an utmost modern purity with the timeless touch of sheer elegance. It’s a slim but powerful fine writing instrument, pleasure and precision combine to create a luxury pen designed to truly elevate your writing experience - every mark you make will radiate clarity and beauty.

      • +2

Sounds like it should come with a happy ending!

        • +1

          fifty shades of blue ink

    • +1

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

    • has e bit of weight and nicer to write with … some people wear hush puppies some wear adidas, i wear new balance as suit me . i hate the work station cupboard pens since they stopped buying pentel gel pens … now it’s 20c ballpoint.

    • It's probably a (fair) bit nicer than a cheap pen but the prices of premium pens are, like many things, mostly artificially inflated.

Source: I have a cousin who was a mechanical engineer and designer at a European pen company. Took me for a tour once - it was fascinating - pencil production more-so than pens. He told me what I just told you.

      • same with sneakers, and lots of things, production costs don't always relate to sale price, but also need take into account marketing, distribution, distributor margin, retailer margin and the cost of money the retailer has until someone buys an item.

    • A sleekly sculpted essay in the cosmopolitan, Hémisphère spans wondrous continents of choice in form and finish, from metallic to marbled to the elegance of stainless steel. Offering a glittering perspective on the synergies of professionalism and pleasure, Hémisphère lights the select path whose destination is sterling value and sumptuous style.

Or so I'm told (by the manufacturer).

    • Imagine a plain person with absolutely no hobbies or interests. He has some extra money to spend but has absolutely no idea how. Waterman comes to the rescue.
Or another situation - presents. Imagine you can buy something which you (or most other people really) do not need cheaply with a discount. Then an $40 present can pass for an $100 present. Good return.

    • +1

On a more serious note, it is not a pen that is being sold but a symbol. Same as designer clothing. More on the subject https://baudrillardstudies.ubishops.ca/signs-of-simulation-s…

Quote "We still consume, even more feverishly. But now we buy status and presence instead of objects. Here in San Francisco, my neighborhood has filled with four-wheel drive wagons. We used to call them jeeps. I doubt most of these all-terrain vehicles have even been anywhere off the road beside perhaps a sidewalk. There are hills here, but never any snow nor weather that would warrant a 4-wheel drive. It is very cool to be part of this urban safari. In hyperreality what is produced and consumed are signs. The pressure on the individual is to be socialized. Production is irrelevant and secondary."
"In dream-work, we cover the full spectrum. Some people use dream-work to patch up the holes in their reality – or gaps in their illusion of reality – places where meaning and value have dropped out of their lives. Much of therapy is about patching up holes in the ego. Deeper work is statistically rare. Dream-work can go the other extreme as well and be a vehicle for promoting a particular singular reality. Here, the interpretations will always be the same, and the interpretive process determines reality. Just as vexing can be the dream as god approach, where the dream reality is determining all the reality and dream-work becomes a kind of religion, the dream an object of worship."

      • some people buy 4 wheel drive for safety not off road, if a 4wd and corolla collide chances are the corolla occupants come of worse … occupants are higher up and more room inside between passenger and metal.

        • +2

          Slaps roof of 4WD

This bad boy can run over so many kids

        • +1

And of course there will be some who will not accept the fact they are buying symbols and they will try to justify it from a logical/practical perspective…

  • +1

Can we refill the ink ? sounds dumb I know

  • +16

Pitty my quality of hand writing warrants a crayon

    • +4

If you practice enough you may be able to get your pencil license

    • It's ok, you can transform your signature style with the wonderfully timeless Waterman Hemisphere Ballpoint Pen.

Or a I'm told. By the manufacturer.

  • Tempted but I need to stop buying expensive pen as I lose them way too often :S

    • Yeah, my good pen never leaves my home office desk - goes back in the box immediately.

      Perhaps one of these?
      https://www.forbes.com/sites/nancyolson/2018/04/03/cross-tra…

    • I know people that moved to expensive pens because they always lost them. Buy a decent pen, engrave your name on it, and you will both be far more likely to keep track of it, and other people will be far less likely to pinch it around the office if you put it down. They have gone from a handful of pens every week, to 1 pen every year or two (plus refills as required).

      • Maybe I lose them because my expensive pen aren't expensive enough to not to be misplaced. Good excuse to spend more now. Whoops whoops.

  • Looks nice, wonder how it compares to a Parker Jotter

    • +3

Oh, i'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find an entire sub-culture of pen worship online with in-depth reviews and comparisons.

      • +2

Most online pen enthusiasts aren't concerned with ballpoint pens. They froth over fountains.

        • Yeah, we have seen this here in days past as well. But I'm sure there is a niche - I can't understand a lot of online fetishes, but each to their own I suppose!

    • should be about the same as the jotter, once the body and weight of the pen is decent it’s the refill that makes a difference ….

    • I have a Jotter and also a Waterman (Carene not the Hemisphere). My impression is the jotter feels more like something on hand to take notes (it’s a small pen) while the Waterman will feel like up to the task for long writing session that will be more comfortable.

Parker has the IM range that will feel a lot more premium than the Jotter.

    • A Parker Jotter is a much cheaper pen.

Having used both, I prefer how this one feels in hand and I prefer the Waterman refills.

  • Waterman, Parker used to be premium brands with their unique ball points designs. Now they are part of Newell (same owner as PaperMate), I feel Parker and Waterman no longer the premium brands that they used to. (It is like Hitachi, Toshiba TVs, they are no longer the Japanese premium brands that they used to be…)

    • rotring is now owned by rubber maid and some made in japan, depends where they shift manufacturing to and if they pursue quality vs price, swatch own omega and logines but haven’t cut quality.

      • manufacturing to and if they pursue quality vs price, swatch own omega and logines but haven’t cut quality.

That's because they don't have to cut quality, they just increase the MSRP by 20% lol

I have a rainbow coloured one of these. They feel nice in the hand and the ink doesn’t run over everything. They also don’t take up much room.

  • Oz fam, looking for fountain pen which is heavily discounted. Any suggestions pls

  • Had one of these for 10-12 years before it finally gave up and fell apart, and used it every working day.

Such a good pen to write with, and a touch of class.

Grabbed one ….thanks for sharing 😇

  • Why do people who arent even the dodgy business owner quote RRP? Even my browser auto popped up that this saves $16 from the usual price.

    • Else what ? Should we put in extra time and effort to find out the market price? Should we all go analyse the pricing trends and forecast future pricing ?

      Some people I swear..

      • Something to indicate that its a bargain at least. RRP is meaningless.

Checking a price at another site or two is what people should do, yes. Call it 'analysing and forecasting' if you insist I guess.

  • shows as $61.34 now

    • +1

It’s still there. Check in the see other sellers on Amazon section

whats so special about the pen over let’s say this one?
Amazon Basics Retractable Comfort Grip Ballpoint Pens, Medium Point 1.0mm, Black, 12 pack https://amzn.asia/d/cVvpSnq
Does it write faster? Or better? Or make your handwriting neater?

Genuine question: who writes these days to justify such a buy? lol

    • +1

not bad pens as they are gel, but for me it's weight, don't like writing with light pens so preffer metal, or if plastic then fountain pens as they are larger and still more weight due to cap, also plastic roller ball but again weight of cap.

  • Need to click other sellers -> amazon UK to get this price, as by default the link goes to a $77.78 price.

  • Seems like sold out

    Ozbargain certified pen.

  • the pen I received can twist anticlockwise very easily to open, and the top half of the pen isn't stable (a lot of wiggle room)
    is this faulty?

I (profanity) received an empty box. As soon as I opened the package, the box lid was already flipped open and the pen was not inside…

    • I hope you took a video…ok I think my one is used, no wonder it was on sale!

    • Same here. Empty box.

  • I have also got an empty box….

  • so many empty boxes, what's amazon doing? are you guys going to refund?

  • I stashed mine in a drawer for Xmas - better open them and check!

  • I ordered two and just received two empty pen cases (no pen inside)

  • No pen either lol, (profanity) me.

  • Refund issued through Amazon support chat.

  • Received fine here, looks new, one end of the cardboard sleeve was (factory) taped.
