Are they struggling for a crowd? There was another deal for discounted tickets.

    • +3

Panthers fans figured they would save their money for the grand final

  • +10

Low key hilarious how every finals game in the last few years for Penriff has been commentators and the media saying it's always a sellout @ points bet and it could easily fill Homebush with 4x capacity.. The NRL listens and ends up giving away tickets >.>

    • +2

Hey, that's our shitty gambling home ground!

      Riff is BlueBet, totally different!

      • +2

Take my upvote. I sincerely apologize, as I get so confused with all the shitty gambling bet stadiums names.

TBF at this point, should just change all NRL team, mascot and stadium names to gambling sponsors, as well as renaming Fox League to Gambling/ Betting League TV as well as Channel 9 to wide world of Gambling/ Betting advertisements.

        • Did it used to be called Sanyo stadium or am I getting confused?

          • +1

@SadKen: When Wesser was fullback and they were sponsored by Sanyo

  • -8

Wow…why would they be giving tickets away for free for FINALS!?

This would never happen in the AFL…too much demand!

    • +13

      Melbournian spotted!

    • +17

NRL focus on the ball action and is better on TV.
AFL is better in person due to off ball action.

Too be fair.. Melbourne pretty boring and nothing better to do if you don’t like cafes and graffiti laneways 😝😝

      • +1

i just visited melbourne from sydney. cafes are nothing special. i spotted many starbucks there almost every block. ewwww.
i like how the cbd is gridded like chicago. i like there free transport system. i was expecting some amazing cafes, but its the same stuff we have here in sydney. probably the only cafe i liked (really just a bakery) was Lune.

nothing beats the award winning Campos coffee from sydney.

        • +4

I agree cafes in Melbourne are mostly overrated, but because RMIT takes up such a massive chunk of the CBD and it's where the tourists go you find all the bubble tea and starbucks. Better cafes are in the suburbs just around the CBD.

The CBD is the best and worst thing about Melbourne. Well designed, all the public transport is design to head there, close to the MCG, art gallery, museum and key places, but you need to head into the likes of Fitzroy, Collingwood and South Yarra to find much good on the cafe side of thing.

      • +1

Well if it wasn't for my family I'd totally live in Melbourne.
Sydney is not a social place. And that's me living in Alexandria, Newtown, Marrickville, CBD, North Shore, Western Suburbs…
        IMHO

        • I'd totally swap with you for a north shore lifestyle ANYDAY and I've lived in every corner of Melbourne. Sydney has it well covered, hence the eye watering RE prices up there.

          • @Bullion78: Personally I think Sydney weather has the best weather in the world.
Social scene here is meh, and getting around is Sydney is painful. Try driving from the northern beaches to the south west, I dare ya.

    • +16

why would they be giving tickets away for free for FINALS!?

Another big reason is that the MCG is in a great location within walking distance to the city so it encourages participation.
Sydney put their big stadium way out in bumfuk Egypt so getting there and back is a horrific experience, then where you are there is devoid of any decent pre and post entertainment options.
It typifies the design by committee approach that always results crappy outcomes.

To make matters worse, when they were planning the new stadium, the other option was to put it in the city where Barangaroo is now, walking distance to everything, but bureaucrats do what bureaucrats do and ruin everything. Imagine if they had've chosen that option how much better it would be.

      • +1

I for one would love to see an underwater Superdome stadium. Sponsors can have their brands on the fishies and cetaceas.
Anyone else in on this business idea?

      • Could they have fitted the whole olympics complex though? I thought the reason for their placement was the sheer amount of space to fit all the different stadiums / event halls / locations etc as well as accommodation for athletes. All in a somewhat central location for Sydney as where it is now, is more central to the Sydney north, South, east and west suburbs to get to (time wise) as well as fit in massive parking lots and roads to go from one venue to the other and have buses to cater for all the olmypic tourism.

The problem i think is the trainline / subway, Its not enough and problematic as you have to change lines most times to get to it.

        • Could they have fitted the whole olympics complex though?

Didn't need to. No other country has the Olympics in one singular complex. A lot them have events in different cities and countries.

Also a stadium suitable for athletics is never going to be great for Rugby/League/Soccer. One requires a large oval the other a smaller rectangle. NSW tried to compromise and like with most compromises it produced a lemon.

The irony of it was they said they couldn't afford two stadiums but then demolished a perfectly good SFS and replaced it with an almost replica of the SFS for a cost of $800M. Go Government! We should definitely give these people more power!

Its not enough and problematic as you have to change lines most times to get to it.

Yeah it's a joke. They built a brand new complex to house 100,000 people then never ran a direct train line to it. They're making the same mistake with the new airport. A brand new 21st century airport which originally had no train line. Then when everyone said how dumb that idea was they announced a train line to St Mary's which is one of the most remote suburbs in Sydney. It is sheer lunacy.

      Another Melbournian spotted!

      • well in Brissy the finals are all sold out too… would imagine same for WA and SA, so I can see who's the odd one out here.

    • +1

Lol, I agree, imagine 'giving away' tickets to an AFL final lollll

    • +3

They’re really not comparable. But if you’re going off popularity AFL is more popular live and NRL is more popular on tv. You only need to look at attendance and tv ratings to work that one out.

  • +10

Great find, but wow this is embarrassing for the NRL.
Broncos v Warriors sold out very quickly, yet they’re just giving away tickets to this prelim. Sure it’s 50k seats v 80k but Brisbane would have sold 100k tickets if that was the stadium capacity.
Also, you’d be pretty disappointed if you had already purchased tickets to this game, especially given the pricing.
    Anyway, great find OP!

    • +2

Agreed. Broncos would have sold out 80K easily.

    • +5

Broncos v Warriors sold out very quickly

To be fair Brisbane has 2 Million+ people and is playing at home, Penrith has 200k and is playing away at the black hole of Sydney…

  • +2

    Restricted view? is that bad?

    • -2

      They're free tickets….

      • +5

mate im just asking, no point if its free if half my view is blocked

        • +1

but the tickets are free. feel free to ask for a refund when u get there.

        • -8

Mate, I'm just answering your ambiguous question.
Bad means different things to different people. I don't know how restricted the view is and if you'd consider it bad but the tickets are free

        • +2

legit there will be so many empty seats just go move around after the game starts

  • -2

Good find, but can you put NSW in title? Cheers OP

  • Selecting any ticket I get "There aren't enough tickets to meet your request right now. Please try a different ticket category or type, with a reduced quantity of tickets.
If you receive this message even when selecting only one ticket, all remaining tickets are being transacted by other customers."

    • i managed to get 1 free ticket about 5 mins ago

  • yeh looks like all gone already

  • +3

    Free tickets to finals, lol

  • +1

All gone it looks like. Would of been better to offer x1, then up to 4 if required.

  • +8

Now that this is out of stock, it is disappointing to see this has been distributed. There were clear instructions that this offer is only for students / families of 2023 PSC-registered schools.

Perhaps this should have only been distributed on here closer to the event (e.g. On Friday morning).

It is now unfortunate that those who this offer is targeted for (families in public schools) now miss out.

    • -1

I am glad it was distributed here. Thanks OP!

  • +1

Got 4. Might be available to someone later tonight if my Sydney mates do not want them.

    • i'd be keen if they're available!

    • I’d like 2 tickets if you’re not using them.

      Thanks in advance!

  • +1

    NRLTINA4 another promo code

  • What does "PSC Admit 4" mean under price type? Does this allow 4 attendees or are they single tickets?

    • found out the hard way that it's just one ticket unless you select 4x PSC Admit 4. A little misleading.

  • Anyone have 2 spare tickets pls?

    • Should be able to get 2 with NRLTINA4 as code

      • Where do u enter the code? Mines says this

The page you're looking for doesn't exist.
The event is either over, or is no longer on sale.

        • Try the link (and entering that code) in the comment below

        • Try incognito it may still be linking to last session for the above code just got in again, cat 3 showing up as limited atm though.

          • @kwijybo: Thanks, that was the problem

          • @kwijybo: Is Cat 2 better than Cat 3?

  • +5

How embarrassing that the NRL has to do this.

    • melbournian spotted

      • +2

It is embarrassing though for the NRL to have to give away tickets for a prelim.

I'll definitely show my Southern colours by saying the following, NRL is a boring AF game. Like NFL it's literally stop start stop start. Once again boring AF game. I get that Northerners don't appreciate or like AFL, but I'm curious why Rugby Union, is less popular than NRL? At least you won't fall asleep during plays with Union.

        • -3

you are definitely entitled to your opinion.
some people like to see a masculine game of the NRL.
others might like the feminine game of the AFL of fairies prancing around.

          to each their own, lol.

          i love you mate.

    Another offer here, different availability.

As a valued member of our TINA audience,
please enjoy an exclusive free ticket offer* to this Friday's NRL Finals clash between the Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm at Accor Stadium, Sydney!

To redeem this offer click through below and use the password NRLTINA4

*Offer is subject to availability and not in conjunction with any other offer. Only valid for up to 4 tickets per customer.

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

Why is this played at Accor stadium? Shouldn't it be played in Penrith?

    • +1

That would mean less ticket revenue and less capacity to dispense 250ml plastic cups of beer for $15.

    • +1

Only the first week of finals can be played at suburban stadiums in Sydney

      • Interesting, is that for Sydney only? What about for QLD

Lets say if Titans make the prelimfinals with a week off. Does it get played at CBUS stadium or Suncorp?

        • I would think they would have the choice - home ground with 30ish thousand seats or move to Brisbane and 80,000 seats.

Just checked - in 2010 the titans played the Roosters in a prelim at Suncorp which was home game to them, unsure if that was a mandated or voluntary change though, unable to find any news items about it.

          • @singlemalt72: Where in Brisbane is the NRL being played in front of 80,000?

            • @Hinee: Opps sorry - typed faster than my fingers (edit: Brain) could follow, was supposed to be 50,000.

From ChatGPT about the 2010 decision

did the titans choose to play 2010 nrl preliminary final at suncorp or was it a nrl decision
              ChatGPT
The decision to play the 2010 NRL Preliminary Final between the Gold Coast Titans and the Sydney Roosters at Suncorp Stadium was ultimately made by the National Rugby League (NRL) and not by the Gold Coast Titans themselves. The NRL is responsible for scheduling and determining the venues for its matches, especially important playoff matches like preliminary finals.

The choice of Suncorp Stadium for the match was likely based on several factors, including venue capacity, logistical considerations, tradition, and expected attendance. The NRL would have made this decision with the overall best interests of the competition and the fans in mind. While the Titans may have preferred to play at their home ground, Skilled Park (now Cbus Super Stadium), the decision to move the game to Suncorp Stadium would have been made by the league's governing body.
