  • The new perk $300-30 Excludes PlayStation :(

Don't forget to combine with the current Ultimate eGift card offer for $576.30

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/800798

You'll most likely need to pay instore as you need to split payment across 2 gift cards as max denomination is $500

    • Can we buy iPhone 15 with these gift cards?

      • +6

        Definitely can.

    • +17

you can do it online, it is just silly, buy 2 ultimate gift cards, first $500, second $178, then buy a $178 JB gift card and use that at checkout as a gift card and the ultimate as a credit/debit card https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/gift-card-digital-500

      • +1

        Nice, creative

      • Trying to buy the ultimate cards but just keeps saying 'loading' when it gets to the payments page :(

        • +2

Make sure to disable any ad blockers.

Ive had issues with my laptop but my mobile chrome browser works. Just takes a while to load…. like 30 seconds… enough to make my phone's screen turn off from inactivity.

      • +1

        Interesting, never would have known.

But why $178 JB gift card? Wouldn't you want to use more Ultimate gift card for greater discount?

        • buy 2 ultimate gift cards, first $500, second $178

        • +1

You use the ultimate gift card (which you use as a "debit card") to purchase a $178 JB Hifi gift card from JB hifi website. Then you use the $500 ultimate gift card as a "debit card" on JB hifi website when you go to checkout the PS5

          • +3

            @ozziekhoo: I'm still not following this :( i'm a bit slow…

            Is the following correct?
            1) buy $500 ultimate gift card and $178 ultimate gift card.
            2) buy $178 JB gift card, using the $178 ultimate gift card.
            3) buy the PS5 from jb hifi online, using the $178 JB Gift card, and the $500 ultimate gift card (using it as a "debit" card)?

            • +1

              @clandestino: 1) Yes
              2) Yes
              3) Yes, you can use the ultimate gift card ($500) as a debit card i.e. put in card number, expiry, cvv etc. while checking out the PS5

              • @ozziekhoo: thank you

              • @ozziekhoo: Any idea on how to redeem the codes at the debit card section? No matter what I do it declines, unsure if I am meant to use my name or the PCN and I've tried both. Do I need to activate the cards somehow?

                • +3

@chocosan: You should have 2 ultimate cards: $500 and $178

With the $178 ultimate you want to purchase a $178 JB Hi-Fi card online using the Card number (NOT PCN), your name, the expiry and CVV (NOT pin).

After this, you will have a $178 JB hi-fi gift card with a card number and pin.

When you go to buy the PS5, you want to use the $178 JB hi-fi as a gift card and then use the $500 ultimate card as a DEBIT card i.e. use the Card number (NOT PCN), your name, the expiry and CVV (NOT pin).

It should go through after this.

                  • @ozziekhoo: Thanks for the reply, currently the issue is that JB Hifi are declining/cancelling my payment for the initial JB hifi gift card. Payment goes through but then I get a cancellation email. Have emailed support but no clue why it won't go through

      • +1

Worked a treat. Only thing I did wrong was to forget that delivery ($5.99) would've required buying the second ultimate gift card for a value of $184, not $178. I got caught short on the JB Hifi payment page, but them's the breaks haha.

        • haha they always get ya!

  • Finally the price goes down. Inflation is not real :)

    • Probably Sony try to increase market cap

    • +1

I think inflation is still real

      $500 in 2016 is worth $624.14 today

Ps4 pro in 2016 when they were the new thing $499 on ozbargain (~$624)
      Ps5 in 2023 still floating $678

    • +1

Don't want it. Even Xbox have announced a new console.. Nintendo soon.

Let's see what Sony comes up with.

      • +3

have you seen the games out there, most still run on ps4
what will a new console do

        • +1

More RGB lights or a clear case to see the circuit board would be nice

      • What's the new console from MS?

Their Xbox Series X is going for $799.

      • If you're referring to the leak from earlier in the week, the "new" console is a disc-less Series X with 2tb.

        • +2

They're gonna have to re-brand… It's no longer an X BOX… its an XCylinder :D

    • +2

I guess you don't have to eat, buy fuel and live in a house. But you definitely don't need PS5 to live and when no one's buying what do they have to do with the stock?

  • +6

Ive had my PS5 for a couple of months and half my games are PS4 titles. In hindsight I should have just bought a pre-owned PS4 Pro and waited until at least 2024 to get the PS5. There really isn't much out there that is taking advantage of the PS5's capabilities.

    • Which makes it surprising it has sold so many consoles.

      • +1

It's FOMO, since everyone was talking about PS5 shortages during and after COVID. That's what made me buy it. I feel like a bit of a sucker for buying it without researching a bit more.

      • Marketing hype and high expectations which is fair given Sony's high reputation and history.

    • +5

The PS5 has all the PS4 Pro’s abilities, a much better controller, 4K Blu-ray player, future proofing for games, faster SSD, 3D Audio, USB-C, all for not that much more money than the PS4 Pro

      • Fair, but I don't need any of those things. 3D audio sucks in my living room and I don't find the PS4 controller too bad having used it before.

I skipped the PS4 because my life was too busy a few years ago. So I should have just bought the PS4 Pro dirt cheap this year and enjoyed the PS4's immense catalog of still very-good games at much cheaper prices.

        • +1

I almost forgot the biggest thing, much quieter and better cooling. And further improvements for some PS4 games like 60 FPS on Last of Us 2 which you won’t get on PS4 Pro

      • All good points, except with 2nd hand you can get PS4s dirt cheap now though.
If all someone wants to do is casually play some games then a PS4 is probably a better option.

I've a got a second/spare for kids PS4 for $50 off FB marketplace recently (console only) and I'm surprised how well it holds up vs the Pro there is barely any noticeable difference in what I've been playing recently (GT Sport on a 27" 4K monitor).

    • Honestly only considering buying the PS5 is just to play Spider-Man 2.

      • -1

If you bought it at this price you could easily resell it for next to no loss

      • I got the ps4 for spiderman originally 😂…

Funny I got it and the game came to pc…

I got the ps5 for Ratchet and Clank originally 😂…

Funny I got it and the game came to PC…

        again lol!

      • Same lmao

  • +5

My only concern is that the ps5 is too big for my cabinet which currently has a ps4 slim. I'll be waiting for ps5 slim, but honestly do not have enough time for games these days….

    • +2

Rumours say slim is only digital version only and may come with a separate disk reader

  • +1

Still no Dualsense Edge discount sigh

  • +1

Thanks OP! Went to the store to pick up a unit today.

FYI in case it hasn't been mentioned - this deal is part of the JB gaming deal that goes until 8th October.

  • For those who bought the console from JB, does the console box have any sort of "seal" to indicate it is brand new?

    • No, PS5’s don’t come sealed.
