no JR pass = no deal.

    • +1

They do have $10 off JR Pass for new users, code JRPASS10. Not much but it's something, considering the price hike I doubt anything good will come up before then as people are scrambling to get them before it goes up.

      • +2

If you're a new user, you're better off using code KLOOKME for 5 percent off, especially if you're getting the 14 or 21 day pass

        • Ah thanks, I thought the 5% off wasn't valid for JR pass but looks like it is! will get my husband to make an account :D muaha

          • @Elision: i made a new account but doesnt work, does it work for u

      • +5

Man. I read it as $10 JR PASS. As in, whole JR PASS for just $10. I was some excited for a few seconds

        • +1

          I share your excitement too,
as the cost of the flight to Japan could have
covered that JR Pass, if it was going for $10 , hah

      • +1

I bought one this morning and the 3.5% seems to have tracked to CashRewards which is is marginally more than $10pp

        • It's not even $10pp - its $10 total for the transaction that includes JR Passes… unless you buy them all separately

      • Better off with cashrewards in most cases …. and buy it in the next 2 days if you are travelling by 28 December (price hike)

        • cant use code and cash reward at the same time?

          • @fungyou100: Didn't want to risk not getting cashrewards to save $10 - got over $50 cashback tracked for my group's tickets.

Cashback is ineligible on the following:

            Purchase via the KLOOK app
Purchases using coupon codes not listed on Cashrewards.
Purchases using any type of discount which lowers price advertised on the Merchant site, including but not limited to employee discounts, student discounts and price-matching.
            etc

…I did not see the JR code listed on cashrewards

    • +2

Kind of a shame the JR Pass price is being price hiked up to 70% from October. It’s hard to see the value in it at the new prices compared to buying regular tickets.

      • There are online calculators to see if it'll be worthwhile to get a JR pass

      • +1

You have to be traveling to a lot of different cities in a small time frame to make it worthwhile at current prices.

Priced charged for Shinkansen is based on distance and with the price hike coming up in October it's going to be hardly worth it imo at that point.

I had the 21 day JR pass when I did my month long trip and did so many day trips to so many places just to make worth the price. It was exhausting.

      • +1

Even before the new price hike you had to be pretty active to justify the price. Generally better value getting some local region passes and having gaps between the coverage. Unless you're legit going from kushu to hokkaido a few times etc :D.

  • I'm about to book USJ so thanks for this. Best value Express Ticket options in Ozbargain's opinion for entry to Super Nintendo World?

    • +7

Keep in mind when booking through Klook you do not get a choice in what times your entrance time is to the rides, so you could get entrance to one thing at 9am and another at 7pm. When booking directly through the Japanese site (not the English version, but the Japanese version, they give you less options in English. I followed instructions on reddit to buy mine) you can pick what you prefer (though it's more complex of course)

There are examples in the low Klook reviews of people stuck with bad times.

eg: "We paid so much money for this just so the park would assign us automatic attraction times. They left us hanging between 09:00 to 17:00 with zero rides that we can go to. Other universal studios express passes in different places don’t make you go by their schedule and you can go to each ride whenever you want. It seems like this is caused by corporate greed and they just want you to stay in the park for as long as possible and spend as much money as you can. Would not recommend it to anyone."

"Errmmmmm, the process itself is very simple and fuss-free. Show QR code and you are allowed express path. But I gave a low review because we don't know the designated timings of the park entries and rides til we have bought and paid. Our entry to Nintendo land was 7.10pm Japan time. The staff were very strict and refused entry at 7pm. The 2 express rides in Nintendo Land were timed at 7.30pm and 8.00pm. By the time we were done with them, it was 820pm and USJ closes at 9pm. There was hardly any time for us to spend at Nintendo Land. We bought the super-charge band but used it for only 1 game - which was a total waste. Other than that, the express pass was a life-saver for the other rides which were at least 75-120mins long in queue."

For me, I went with: Universal Express Pass 7 ~ Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem, the Spider man pass is also good imo, but of course it depends what you want to see.
The only difference is you are either picking between the Minion ride or the Backdrop ride, which is the same as the normal Hollywood Dream ride but in reverse (but it is more of a thrill ride for sure), so if you want variety of experiences then Minion gives you a great range, if you want more thrill rides then Spider man may suit you more.

At the time of my booking there was only about a $25 difference between the 4 pass and 7 pass so it was a no-brainer for me, I would look into your dates of arrival and compare the prices. Expect to wait minimum 40 minutes per ride without the pass, up to 90 minutes or more to factor in how much time you are willing to wait and if the 4 pass is more worth it to you.

Picking my own times, I was able to pick mario land at 9:30am, finish the 2 mario rides by 10:30, then have until 1:20 for harry potter and the harry potter rides, so can spend time in mario land and hopefully eat at the restaurant there, and can spend whatever time we want in harry potter land and all the rest of the rides we don't have to wait until a time for, so we can leave the park as early as we feel like. If we get there for opening time we have an hour before Mario entry to rush to the rides not listed on our pass and hopefully get one or 2 of those done too.

      • Express passes for my date are all sold out. Really just need to do Mario land as worst case.

Just go early? Or any other suggestions please?

        • You could buy the early entry and studio pass. Early entry lets you enter 15 mins before general public. Once your in head straight to nintendo world.

            • @daft009: Yeah and there should be an option for [Early Entry] + 1 day studio pass. Express pass still requires a studio pass, but the early entry is a cheaper option.

              • @Deuce: As per the below I too already have the normal tickets.
So just early entry pass is not a thing?

                • +1

@daft009: Sadly it isn’t a separate add on. The only reason I got my USJ tickets via klook was for the early entry tickets.

      • I did not know this n purchased the USJ ticket yesterday. However, just checked my voucher and did not see any timing for Nintendo world or any rides? Do we have to make an online booking or something? Thanks

        • Did you buy a studio pass and express pass or just the studio pass?

          • @Deuce: Just 1 day studio passes. Thanks

            • @Bargain-er: studio pass is a general entry ticket. Express pass is an optional add on/extra you buy.

      • That’s a really good timeslot! Do you mind sharing what time you had to be up to get it and from what site?

I’m reading conflicting info about being able to pay with Western CC’s or Apple Pay on the official Japanese USJ site

      • do you have a link to reddit?

    • +2

Hi I'm in Japan right now and just went to usj Osaka.

      Here are my tips.
      1. Arrive earlier than 8 am , we got there at 8 am and the line was already long and the gate was already opened.
      2. Immediately after the staff let's you in the park go on the android app and select timed entry for Nintendo world.
      3. The other option is everyone just headed straight to Nintendo world after early entry since it was approximately 8:10am the timed entry didn't even start yet . So I would recommend you go early then line straight for the Mario ride and don't stop .total wait time for Mario kart ride was 30 minutes .
      3. After finishing the ride head straight to minions or other ride since the line are still short because the park just opened .
      4. We bought fast pass for dream roller coaster , spiderman , Harry Potter rides . The rest we lined up and was able to do all the rides and watch the parade all in one day .

      • Did you get the normal day entry pass? Did you need the early entry pass to get in earlier?

        • We only got the normal day entry pass. Even though the park says 9am opening time they opened to everyone about 8am, depending on the day .

Even if you didn't get into Nintendo world before they closed it off. Going early let's you grab a timed entry. At 8 30 I could get a timed entry for 9 am for Nintendo world.

Make sure you change the currency to Japan Yen as their exchange rate is a bit doggy.

    • +2

What products are you seeing the rate being poor for? I had a look at the JR pass and their rate is pretty reasonable

      JR Pass is 29650 JPY
      Klook: 310.39 AUD
      Google exchange rate: 309.27 AUD
      Mastercard: 313.77 AUD
      VISA: 313.708383 AUD
      XE.com: 310.62311

      • For Tokyo Disney is 8400 JPY
Klook: 95.1AUD = 9117.25 JPY *exchanged by google rate

        • Ah I don't think that's an exchange thing, Tokyo Disney tickets have different prices based on the day you go, the cheapest day is 8400 JPY but it's priced up to 11,000 JPY. Have a look at the calendar, I think you're looking at a day where the base price is not 8400 JPY because my Klook price in AUD is 90.59

          • @yessum: I checked the date I want to go on Disney Sea page, and it's 8400 JPY, and Klook charges way more than that too.

    • Do you get charge in JPY if you change the currency? I have JPY currency account and want to use it.

      • You pay in USD, at least I did. When I switched to Yen in the Klook app my PayPal was charged the equivalent in USD.

        • Do we get charged AUD if left as is in Aud?? Just trying ti avoid stupid 3% exchange rate fee with my credit card. Otherwise i’ll use diff card….

      • You get charged in the currency you select

  • You can get JR pass at yen rate without any mark up and Japan travel agents. e.g. https://experiences.travel.rakuten.com/experiences/22740

    Many other tickets as well.

  • Any other popular countries?

    • Hong Kong and Taiwan are part of the birthday sale but discounts are on each individual attractions. Scroll towards the bottom of the Klook birthday sale page, underneath all the Japan stuff.

20% off Japan experiences and activities

    Recommendations?

  • Is there a limit on how far in advance you can buy train/shinkansen tickets like the JR Pass?

    • Specifically for the JR Pass, what you purchase is actually the exchange order for it, which you then exchange for the actual pass when you arrive in Japan - and this exchange order expires after 3 months. The JR Pass is increasing significantly in price on the 1st of October and paying the JR Pass now allows you to still get it cheap, but only if you're travelling there within the next 3 months. To add to that, the JR Pass doesn't need to be activated immediately upon exchanging for it in Japan - you get 30 days to activate it.

  • Hi Guys, I am looking to book Kyoto to Tokyo one way ticket early Dec. I wonder if I book on klook now will this lock the price? When i was trying to book, It mentioned ticket will only be issued in Nov. Thank you.

    • The ticket is valid for 30 days only so if you booked in Dec, they would lock the price but would only issue the tickets in Nov. Also, they add 10% fulfilment fee to the order so it's pretty tricky as you will end up getting 10% discount (20% discount - 10% fulfilment)

  • Unrelated, but does anyone know if the Klook pass for Greater Tokyo can be used to redeem multiple of the same attraction? For example, redeeming 2 tickets to the teamlab planets?

  • Travelling to japan in may .. how early/late should I be booking things? (Already got flights to Tokyo only). Thanks for any advice.

    • looks to me like you can only book a month or 2 in advance…

  • +3

Anyone wants to buy JR PASS could try code: GUANJIA888 to get 5% off.

    • Thanks! I had a $10 off code but that code saved me an extra $10

  • Meh. I got the newsletter and got the code SSJPPTP20, trying to book Narita Skyliner to Ueno but wouldn't let me apply it. App and website says applicable only to Shinkansen tickets.

    • It is valid for certain limited express trains from JR such as Narita Airport-Tokyo or Narita Airport-Ofuna. Make sure you use this site to search for available routes:
      https://www.klook.com/en-AU/rails-32/1012-japan/

      • yeah figured. Too risky to book Narita express because you have to book a time spot straight away vs skyliner is open dates. (Correct me if I'm wrong though) Trip is in Nov and I was thinking what if there were delays on the flight.

  • I am visiting Osaka and Kyoto only for a week. Would travel to and from and in nearby metro areas. It's so confusing to choose from so many rail passes. Can someone please recommend the ideal pass in this case?

    • +1

You could perhaps get the Kansai Area Pass but depending on how much you are travelling in a day, it might be cheaper to just pay for the individual tickets.

    • +2

For the trains around Osaka and Kyoto just use a IC card which you'll pick up when you get there which lets you pay any train company. There are different train companies
as the rail lines are operated by different companies, so getting a rail pass for one company means it's no use when you need to take a train on a different train company.

There are different types of trains to get between Osaka and Kyoto. The quickest being a 15 min Shinkasen for $15. Or a limited express train 25 mins for only about $6. Suggest not getting a rail pass as the savings won't be really significant.

The only one you should buy I guess would be the train from Osaka airport (Kansai airport) to Osaka city. From memory there are 2 or 3 train companies. Which one you'll go for will likely depend on which train goes to the station nearest your hotel.

    • +1

If you're just in those two places then there is no rail pass worth getting. In both places you'll use the metro and non JR lines more than JR lines. There are local Osaka passes and Kyoto passes that can be worth it if you're really going to hit the trains/busses hard.

    • Thank you good people. :)

  • The 20% off train ticket seems need to be a particular date and time? Kyoto-Shin Osaka. Seems to be too hard to predict

    • And honestly the Hankyu line between the two takes you from more central Osaka to more central Kyoto anyway. Cheaper too but it's not a shinkansen if that's something you are keen to try.

      • +1

Oh, I thot they re same station with Shinkansen from. Kyoto train station to Shin Osaka train station? 10 mins difference? Thanks

        • It's all pretty similar. Worth having a look and keeping in mind that JR generally may not be the best way between/within Osaka/Kyoto

  • Dead link now?

  • lol I thought there were $10 JR Passes but it was only $10 off

  • JR Pass is now made into product tag. You can now subscribe to it if you want to track all the deals relating to JR Passes
