No one seems to talk about this tablet, everyone is focus on the much more expensive pro version.
But I checked the spec it got a mid-decent range cpu and a large screen. I think it's pretty good for this price.

8GB RAM, good price op. And new release

  • Sorry this could be a dumb question but what is the difference between this and an iPad pro?

Obviously the OS, assuming this will be a bit slower… anything else? I mean you can get all the same streaming apps, play in HD? Is the resolution worse?

    • -2

      https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12443&idPhone2=…

Here's the comparison. Screen resolution not much different..this will probably start being laggy after 2-3yrs as is usual with Android devices. The iPad will probably get 4yrs.

It'll depend on what you want to use it for.

      • +11

The iPad Pros you would expect more like 8 years.

My old iPad Air 2 still is pretty damn good and it’s like 9 years.

I would always go with an android tablet if it was just for streaming. You can expect 8-10 years of usage with just using streaming apps on Android. You can get a better aspect ratio and you can get an oled screen. Apple wins if you want software support and you want apps that are designed for tablets. Android sucks in those areas still. May improve in time with foldable phones gaining traction forcing developers to cater for bigger screens

        • -4

So many negs for simple facts. Android apps for tablets are crap, the OS updates for anything outside Google and Samsung is pretty much zero, Lenovo being the worst. If you want long term software support nothing comes near Apple but you pay for it.

If you want a good quality Android tablet with likely zero updates Lenovo are one of the better, but understand if you don’t like to tinker with devices you are stuck with what you buy, personally I think the devices are expensive for being obsolete the moment you buy them.

          • @WhiteEvo6: Yes it’s odd to neg facts. lol The iPads are great from a value perspective once you consider their support life and how long the things actually last. Android tablets can be great too, just don’t expect the support life and expect app support to be worse.

          • @WhiteEvo6: I'm a huge Android fan, and everything Ronnnie says… is on point.

          • -2

@WhiteEvo6: Apple fan bois out in force, as expected.

          • @WhiteEvo6: The Lenovo Tab P12 launches with Android 13 and is planned to receive two major Android OS upgrades through its lifecycle. Four years of security updates from its first availability are also planned.

        • How is the iPad running after 9 years? Did apple slow it down with the software updates like it did with iPhones .

          • @Safoan: There’s certainly a noticeable degradation in performance on my old iPad vs the way it was when new in 2014. Which I would expect from a device made back then after so much time with how software is developed to take more resources as hardware improves. This isn’t limited to Apple though. To be fair in 2023 it still performs better than my old Nexus 9 did in 2014. What a terrible device that was. It also outperforms my ~5 year newer Samsung tab S5e. Android 11 update didn’t do many favours for that device sadly. But for what I use my Samsung tab for the performance degradations doesn’t bother me at all.

Are there devices out there that you can buy that actually don’t degrade in performance after say 7 major OS updates and around 9 years of software improvements? I haven’t found such a device, but curious to find ones. I try to keep my old hardware for as long as possible these days. Works out better value in the long run

@Ronnnie: That's interesting. I also like to keep my old hardware as long as I can. I am still running my note 3 from 2013 currently running android 13 using Lineage OS. It runs fine but I know this is not for everyone and the security risk.

My iPad Pro 2018 still works like new, not laggy at all

        • 2018 was only last year!

    • +12

      Hi Mate,

It's actually a great question. The primary difference is the ecosystem / operating system and apps between IOS and Android. If you are not someone that is already buried in the Apple Ecosystem (Multiple Iphones/Ipads/Apple TV etc.) then this Lenovo tablet is good value in comparison.

Both this and the Ipad will give you a great tablet experience for everday usage including HD streaming, casual gaming, general media consumption and the endless apps available for whatever you wish to use it for. Technically the specs of the iPad may be a bit "faster" but in reality it may be the difference of milliseconds when performing actions, it will not be noticed in real world casual usage.

Without an Apple Ecosystem, there would be no noticable difference in the capabilities, the main noticable difference would be the price.

      Hope this helps.

        ecosystem

        Vendor lockin

    • +3

In terms of bring laggy, it helps to factory reset the device and reinstall your apps. Should speed things up.

    • An iPad pro cost three times this, the hardware is great but the app range is limited (especially free apps), everything is locked down by the gouging app store/iTunes, the ability to customise is limited and I am often frustrated at the things I can't do with my iPad pro. I love the screen - the A4 size is simply the best for reading magazines and newspapers - and it's zippy, but lasting 8 years? In your dreams. You can buy three android tablets for the same price, one after the other, and they will indeed be up-to-date and last nine years or more. I don't regret buying the iPad pro … well, sometimes, I love hacking and modded tech, and these are mum-and-dad devices, but I'm looking for a second tablet and it definitely won't be an iPad pro.

      • -1

What a weird statement to make not lasting 8 years.. Reeks of ignorance. All iPad pros thus far have got at least 7 major OS releases and get further security updates for years after. Apple only continue to support such older devices because there’s still a large user base using such older devices… No point in throwing money into supporting older devices that were no longer being used… They get used because older Apple hardware holds up better.

Your argument about buying a cheaper alternative instead could be applied to the the cheaper Apple ipad range too, could just buy the $450 base model twice and probably be well ahead since resale of old iPad will be way better than mid tier old Android tablets. Also get longer support than your 3 Android tablets. If you want long support on the cheap, you could get a Chromebook that can be used in tablet mode too and have 10 years of support.

Both Android tablets and Apple tablets have their cons and pros. Can’t wait until Apple allow sideloading next year.

        • My ipad pro has a cracked screen and I don't even know how it happened, ditto my previous ipad and it cost a small fortune to fix, and I don't care how many annoying updates Apple pushes, I'm going to want something thinner, lighter, brighter and faster well before eight years is up.

    • 3 times the price is a pretty big difference

    • +3

Depends, if you just watch some videos and use standard apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video etc an Android tablet is fine. If you need Pro apps and stuff, yeah iPad is the way to go, but thats really two different device segments.

      • +1

Yes that’s what I use my old Android tablet for. Multimedia consumption and emulation machine. Don’t need to spend $500 to get that though and it’ll last probably 8-10 years I figure with such use.

    • I think this is a good candidate to compete with ipad 9th Gen which is 64gb for $450.

And from the website above it promised 2 years os and 4 years security update. I don't know how many more year Apple is going to support the ipad 9 which is released 2 years ago

      • +1

It’s usually 5 years after they stop selling the devices. Like my iPad Air 2, came out in 2014 still gets security updates.

        • -4

How insecure must it have been if they're still patching it up.

          • +2

@Wardaddy: Mate, every electronic device with an internet connection gets security patches regularly, doesn't matter who made it (unless its real cheap then vendor security patches can be, well, patchy).

But i dont want an ipad.

    • Yeah, is this a new product or a back order? I was ready to go with cash rewards 2% but once I saw the mid November delivery = not sure.

  • Apart from the screen size and battery capacity, any reason to go with this over the cheaper Lenovo Xiaoxin pad pro 2022 snapdragon version?
It's cheaper and has an OLED screen.

    https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12443&idPhone…

    • +1

I guess you don't get local Australian warranty as the device is not sold here.

    • Xiaoxin Pad Pro is better value for less money

      • Seemed like it. I got the Xiaoxin pad pro snapdragon version from the previous deal. Still waiting for delivery.
For me, only the display with decent sounds and fast charging matters since this will be mostly for YouTube and other video consumption where the picture and sound quality doesn't matter that much. So, non OLED tablets are deal breakers for my usage.

        • I ordered two of those as well. One vanished as soon as was cleared in Australian Customs. The other (bought because the first one vanished) has been in Singapore for the last week. And it looks like getting a refund for the first lost one via Paypal, will take around two months from date I paid for it.

Yeah. Nuh. Never dealing with AliExp again. Good news is that my case from Lenovo DID turn up.

          The case https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005898471639.html
The New Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro Snapdragon 870 12.7" LCD Screen 144Hz 8GB 128GB/256GB 10200mAh Battery Android 13 Tablet Original ROM. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005940810066.html

    • The pro 22 doesn't have a snapdragon. Also pro 22 has video output which I'm interested in.

  • so this one or P11 Gen 2?

    • screen size makes big difference. Must decide the size first, then looking for models.

  • +2

Biggest difference between this and 12 Pro is screen:
    LCD vs 120Hz Amoled.
If you buy for media consumption choose the screen first, then all other specs

  • Would had been cheaper with this deal. I tried to but it then it did not work I hope it comes back again

    Bing Lee: 17% Cashback (9pm 28/9 - 9am 29/9, Cap $70, Exclusions) + [Westpac] Bonus 15% Cashback (28/9, Cap $50) @ ShopBack

    • Snapdragons are made in Taiwan too..

  • Is this tablet similar to https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005940810066.html except slower cpu?

    • I would buy this one

      • Ok but why? This one only has a 60hz screen vs 144hz because of the weaker processor.

  • +3

I have Lenovo P11 Pro and although it is a good tablet for the price I wouldn't recommend it unless you are getting it just for kids or grandparents. It is quite laggy so pen is useless and unusable. There is an issue that they won't fix with face unlock. If you have face unlock on then it will constantly try to detect face even when closed and when no face detected it will vibrate (there is no way to turn of the vibration so it becomes anyone and then flattens battery). I really hoped it would be ok tablet but as anti-apple as I am I think I will be getting an iPad next.

    • You’re referring to the older model. Pro gen 2 isn’t available in Australia.

      • -1

Obviously it is an older model but do comparison of the specifications. Not much different at all. I only paid $250 so not as much a waste of money for me just a learning curve.

  • +5

I bought a Lenovo tablet once. Never again. Their parts are non-existant. They couldn't sell me a replacement battery, and they wouldn't do screen repairs, only offered to send a refrubished unit for almost the full price of the unit. Was flabergasted that a company like Lenovo managed to be less repairable than an Apple product.

  • -2

There are many reasons why people aren’t talking about this

  • the old yoga tablets lasted my kids years, good for kids to mess with but I would recommend samsung tablet.. yea it's pricey but worth it down the long run

  • +1

Just for comparison, the Mediatek chip in this has the single core performance of the A10X in the 2017 iPad Pro, and the multicore performance of the A12 in the 2018 iPhone XS. That being said, a 13" iPad Pro is 3.86X more expensive than this Lenovo, so 🤷‍♂️

    • I'm still using my iPhone xs with a depleted battery. Works great still!

      • Yes the A12 was a very powerful chip for its time, I still have a 2018 iPad Pro with the A12X and it also works well.

        • Yeah I'm contemplating on whether to get a battery replacement or iPhone 15 pro. The only difference I'll notice is the 120hz screen and maybe brightness tbh. I only use it to browse, messaging and watching the occasional YouTube video or music.

          • @Griffindinho: Hard decision, IOS 17 is likely to be the last update the XS gets given the iphone 7 & 8/X were dropped after 6 years, plus battery replacements are now $149. OTOH the 15 Pro is $1849+ so yeah…
