No, I ported out about 12 hours after the order was placed.
Yes, ported out to an Aldi sim which uses Telstra.

  • +1

Was told to come back next day to pick up phone.. only to be told their didn't receive enough. Might be another 2-3 weeks.
I ordered the 128gb.. but given the long wait anyway, I asked to pay the extra for the 256gb and they were more than happy to do so.
    So… the wait begins.

And I'm going to try get Optus to reduce my monthly fees (I'm planning on staying), cause I don't have the phone!

    • I was told by the Broadway store that I cannot upgrade from 256GB to 512GB for an additional fee, nor can I change the color.

  • +1

Currently at HN, sorting out a few issues but all seems well. Looks like the guy above was either fibbing or being fibbed to.

    • you mean the deal still exist?

      • +1

Sure does, in my experience. Got it today.

        • Based on your comment I went and signed at 6pm Sydney time…. Good on you mate and sees to be fine so far. Except I do not know when to cancel yet. I'm more comfortable receiving the phone then cancel

          • @neonlight: Haha lucky you did, seems the rumours were absolutely true. I got the phone today. Small city, less competition I suppose. It really shouldn't matter when you cancel but I get your point. Enjoy it!

  • +1

Deal is still ongoing. Just got one and confirmed the $828 cancellation fee. Ask for a copy of the contract showing cancellation fees to be safe though.

    • They just sms you with a link and you press agree on it before proceeding I downloaded a copy

  • Is this worth keeping without cancelling? is anyone considering not cancelling

    • +1

Yeah it is. Still a good deal. Assuming you actually need/want a new phone and can afford a flagship on a premium data plan. If not then its just ok, I think the mid range phones on Amaysim/Belong etc. is much better value overall. But as far as Pixel 8 deals go this is good even if you dont cancel.

      • Yea thats what I Thought! thanks man

        • +2

I'm going to keep it for a month or so and see how the Optus network goes before I decide what to do. It's not like I'm paying anything particularly extra.

          • @Chippps: Same here I'm going to wait until I got the phone then I will cancel the plan.

Because it takes 3 weeks to get the phone so I will just keep the plan for now

    • I'm keeping it. If you keep it you're paying an extra $828 over 24 months, which is $34.50 a month. Can't get many 100GB 5G plans for that price

  • Sorry guys, I'm confused. Stock currently seems limited, so can I sign up now and receive the phone later? Do you cancel later when you've received the phone at a later date?

    • "so can I sign up now and receive the phone later" Yes.
"Do you cancel later when you've received the phone at a later date?" You should be able to cancel before you physically receive the phone, it seems a lot of poeple here are doing exactly that. If you think they might cancel the whole thing and refund you then you can wait until you receive it which will effectively cost you $69/2 (Pay $69 for the 1st month, reduce the cancellation fee by $69/2). So up to you I guess. I'll probably cancel straight away, I think its fine.

      • Thank you! Appreciate it.

  • -1

if phone not in stock do they post it to you or need to pick up instore?

    • Need to go in and pick it up

  • -2

Hey guys looks like you can get 256Gb same contract paying just $100 for handset any catch???

    • +3

Click "View All" at the bottom of the page. Then Ctrl + F and search "256"

Plenty of replies that answer your question :)

      • True and people negging me for nothing. I meant extra $100 to get 256gb upfront for the same plan is very good. Which means totally cost $828 + $100 if you decide to terminate contract

  • Just cancelled on the app, took 10 min on the chat!

  • +1

I'm signing up now and I upgraded to 256gb the T&C does show $828 termination fee

  • Being told Hardly Normal is pulling the deal soon, can anyone confirm?

    • nope, if the deal is up till the 19th, they cant pull it earlier

      • +1

The issue is now with the stock right ? Just wondering if you have access to check stock at every stores for Ozbargainer here please ?

        • There's no stock for 256gb all backordered.

128gb you have a chance but still need to wait a week

256gb approx 3 weeks. So early November you might get it

I saw this on the sales guys inventory screen

I think they are still running AS400

        • most stores will have 128gb models, no stores have 256 or 512

      • They probably can end the promotion early, as long as they stop advertising it. And it appears they have stopped advertising it.

It is no longer on the offers page: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/optus-byo

      • +3

Optus says today is the last day. It's now been changed. I hope you are right. At least the rep says today is the last day. Sales guy did not say this until he confirmed with the Optus rep on the phone.

I'm confident the promotion is ending early though as I just went there literally 30 mins ago

The sales guy did not know this when I asked him about pixel 8 pro promotion until I was signing up half way

        • I heard nothing of the sort but glad I went with my gut and did it today instead of later based on these rumours.

        • I agree. Even though rep says so in the comments, there is no such thing as an immovable date. If that were the case why did all the online references get scrubbed? I suspect only reason why it's still on today is that the ads were still up in the morning so store staff would not have been informed of the decision. (The rep I dealt with knew nothing of the deal being closed out).

Nonetheless if you want to be guaranteed a phone most stores are still open till 9 tonight!

        • +2

havent been in to check the intranet but apparently they are pulling the plug tonight. S23 FE $0 till 1st of nov though

          • @[Deactivated]: Nice one thanks for the confirmation. =) so what I heard was true
I wonder why they pull the plug lol

          • @[Deactivated]: Which plan is S23 FE on? Surely not the same $69 plan..

            • +1

@CodeXD: it is, its not the best deal on that plan but its a deal nonetheless

      • No more mention of the deal online anywhere. Even the iphone 15 deals which ended a few days ago still have the descriptions up.

      • Interesting, store told me they're pulling the plug EOB tonight.

      • Are you sure bahaha

  • Sorry for the annoying phone case question….. Got my P8P yesterday but don't want to use it until I get a case.
Quickest option that I can think of would be a case from JB HIFI.

ZAGG Crystal Palace (Clear) —- Case-Mate Tough Case (Clear) —- EFM Alta Case Armour (Clear)

Any thoughts which might be a good choice?

Any other suggestions are always greatly appreciated :)

Next day delivery Amazon, good ones on there. Worth ordering a Spigen though for later

      • I've been trying to find some next-day delivery but only have found Sunday. If you happen to come across any next day could you share the link?

      • Yep Spigen is definitely a good one, I have a dbrand ghost case on the way, but that would be a week or two.

    • I ended up picking up the phone from the same person who sold me the phone. He gave me both the case and screen protector half price on the spot

      • I should have asked my sales guy for a discount. might see if his there on the weekend

  • +1

Went and signed up just now. Sales guy said tonight is your last chance the offer is now changed to finish today. HN opens til 9pm is your last chance

We were on the phone call with an Optus rep was confirmed today is the last day of this promotion

    • Bugger then as I am unable to go to the store until tomorrow. Oh well.

      • Same here.

        • I am considering to buy Samsung S23 FE if I don't get this Pixel. What about you ?

          • @yht: I wasn't commited to this deal, was keen but not committed, just glanced the S23FE, can't see the deal for it but specs wise, doesn't interest me over my S20 Ultra.

            • @HopSkipJumpFallSplat: At the moment, Samsung has some special offer runnings, scrolling through ozbargain, it can reach to around $600

      • I mean you can still try. But unless the Optus rep on the phone is wrong or just bluffing don't know really

I mean he wasn't getting anything from me and doesn't make sense to let me know half way signing up

  • To sweeten the deal I got a new number like a easy remember one. I'm thinking of porting out that number to terminate contract once I get the phone

Has anyone successfully port out Optus number and then pay that $828 termination fee??

  • +1

    Plan term: 24 Months
    Term start date: 2023-10-13
    Term end date: 2025-10-12

    Remaining balance: $828.00
    View breakdown
    Remaining device repayments $0.00
    Remaining accessory repayments $0.00
    Outstanding charges $0.00
    Termination fees $828.00

    • Where do you see the breakdown? I was told they wouldn't be able to tell me the remaining balance until they send the billing next month.

      • +1

        In the app.

Account -> My plan -> Cost to cancel

  • +1

Went in HN, was browsing phone section. Sales guy actually pitched this offer. Signing up to optus was coming up saying I already had accounts but I never did. Sales called optus and made them create the account. Paid 100 for P8P Bay 256GB one. Got invoice and should get a call for pickup max 3weeks.

Couldnt get optus chat to waive 69, so keeping it for 1month and timed cancellation initiated. So 828+ 69 = 897.
    Thanks OP

    • -1

      not 897, but rather: 862.50 = ((23 x 69) / 2) + 69

      • Ow , but the optus chat confirmed saying 828+69 …thats why I opted to cancel just before billing cycle.

Should I just cancel it straight away then starting now?

        • sorry but I cannot tell you what to do, it's your decision to make if you want to risk it, read all the comments to see what others have said/experienced, and then make up your own mind

        • +1

          828 = 24 * 69 / 2
but if you are paying the 1st month in full, then 24 becomes 23.
          Optus chat was wrong

          • @hoosier daddy: Thank you so much for the breakdown. Will ping them again to get it cancelled immediately then

            • +3

@nippy: I think there's a risk of cancelling early because there's a huge backorder for 256gb if you are on the 128gb might be ok what if they can't get the stock then you can't really do anything because you no longer a Optus customer and Harvey Norman might have limited powers to help you. On the screen I saw minimum 20 x 256gb backorder for just one colour so around 60 or so not in stock

That extra $69 to me is the delivery fee.

Until I got the phone I won't cancel

People ain't seriously going to rock up and say hey I paid termination fee but I haven't got the phone yet. Can you give me that termination fee refund??

HN will probably say go talk to Optus.

Others may say hey you got the HN receipt. But then HN cannot find the records of you being an Optus customer since you have cancelled your plan!?

              • +1

@neonlight: also, it's not an extra 69, it's only half of that, so 34.50

                • @hoosier daddy: It's prorataed hence half? Don't quite get the reason it's halved

                  • @neonlight: The first month is not pro-rata'd, you pay the full month whether you use 2 days, or 29 days.

cancellation fee is (remaining months) * (monthly contractual price) * 1/2

                    Scenario (A): Cancel straight away, you pay: 24 * 69 * (1/2) = 828
                    Scenario (B): wait a few weeks to cancel, you pay: 23 * 69 * (1/2) + 69 = 862.5 ( 69 being for the first month's use, partial or full)

                    Difference is: (B) - (A) = 862.5 - 828 = 34.50

                    • @hoosier daddy: Thanks sense. Is there a chance we can delay the payment for the first bill to say we haven't got the phone yet?

Because there's a high chance 256GB ones not arriving by end of month and then not sure how much more you need to pay before cancelling

Maybe another $34.50 in the end ends up to be 34.50 til 31st Oct (for me) and another week in Nov.

                      • @neonlight: That's an Optus question, ring them up and maybe say, I don't have the phone yet, I can't use the sim yet??

Every extra month you end up paying $69 for is effectively only an extra $34.50 to the final "total cancellation" cost. If you extrapolate my example above to Scenario (C), (D), (E) etc, which is 2 months, 3 months, 4 months respectively, etc etc, you will find the net incremental is only $34.50 every month.

This is because of the nature of the cancellation fee, being (1/2) of the remaining months contractual costs. For every month you don't get to apply that (1/2), you lose that (1/2)

              • +1

@neonlight: Yeah good point. pinging them again to extend cancellation date just before billing cycle ends.

                • @nippy: Thats exactly what I did. Told them to cancel on XX date so that i can continue to use that for a while :)

                  having the e-sim is a plus :)

                • @nippy: Edit: couldn't extend as service got cancelled already. Now just fingers crossed HN dnt back out. :(

Might just get 128 Obsidian they got in stock and get 100 refunded if they cant get the 256GB in stock

                  • @nippy: Update: Pinged optus again today. New agent could get my service re-activated again with timed cancellation before billing date.
Man all depends on different agents you get on chat.

Keeping the service for this month just to be safe

    • +1

I had the exact same as you. Couldn't sign up online with sales person.

However I think its much safer to not cancel the plan until you have the phone, reason is what if they don't deliver and you already cancelled. So I think it is not safe that way

      • The phone has nothing to do with Optus, the free phone offer is fulfilled by HN and that’s why they give you the invoice for it.

    • When did you sign up?
Did they pull the deal few hours ago?

      • Signed up at 5pm

  • +1

Also confirmed with HN staff in Brisbane that deal being pulled tonight. Last hour or so get in on the hack!

  • +1

Just came out of HN, staff confirmed that this deal is ending tonight and now they're worried what to tell the customers who came earlier, but failed to signed up due to Optus system being down/congested, and they were asked to come again another day.

So apparently, for the past hour they were trying to contact whoever who missed the sign up, hoping they can turn up to finalize the deal before tonight as it won't be valid tomorrow onwards. For my case, the staff had to do a manual sign up via the call center and took them almost 1 hour to get it done.

    • Yea did the staff get an error something about "existing customer record" eventhough you ain't an Optus customer?

That's what happened to me and that's how I knew ending tonight via call

  • +2

Went to HN Fyshwick at about 830pm. Asked for this deal. Was told they can't sign me up as Optus sign-up system is offline. Told me to come back tomorrow. Got a verbal assurance that deal would be available tomorrow because it doesn't end until 19th.

    • +2

went to HN Fyshwick to try, staff recommended me a $500 voucher instead. I believe the deal is truly pulled off.

      • Thanks for saving me a trip to fyshwick.

    • How'd you go? Did they honour the deal?

  • +1

I tried tonight at Harvey Norman in Maroochydore and was told that the deal was no longer available. Apparently head office called and told them to end the deal because they don't have enough stock

  • +1

I went tonight and succeeded. They didn't have stock (I missed by exactly 2 mins) but I still signed up and will go in to pick in up in 2-3 weeks apparently. Was also told that the deal is ending today. I was suspicious because he also lied to me by saying it's more expensive to cancel within the first 3 months, but seeing that lots of other people here were told the same thing I think it's probably done now. Could definitely be store dependant though.

    • +2

Came out successful on this deal today. Was talking to store rep. HN is paid commission to sell this bundle. If customer ops out within 3 months, HN must refund/loses their commission. Pretty rough for HN but definitely not worth lying about.

  • +4

The guy I spoke to said that Optus pay out the commission at 60 days, and that it is the franchisee owner that is stuck with the bill if they don't get the commission.

My bet is that they got a whole bunch of data from the Optus system yesterday and today with the massive influx of cancellations. Some bright spark joined the dots between the Harvey Norman deal and the contract cancellations, hence the cancellation of this deal.

    • +2

      The Ozbargain curse haha.

Wonder how much money they lost 😂

    • +1

      Muhahahaha

      I love being a professional.

    • +3

Lol. Ok at least we could thank Gerry for giving us possibly the best P8Pro deal in the world.. ~USD522.

  • +1

Tried to sign up tonight but the credit check came back as pending review or something and 10 minute SLA. 10+ minutes later, still nothing. Store closed, they said deal ended tonight.

    • Aw, unlucky bud.

    • Damn thats so unfortunate. Feel for you. I would hate that so much.

  • Nabbed the last 256gb at my local Vic store. Not cancelling because the plan is a decent enough deal anyway - Cheers Op

    • +2

Just FYI, when I tried to cancel, they offered me $49 for 60GB for 12 months (then I think revert to $69?) if I keep the plan. I cancelled anyway but you might be able to get a discount my talking to chat if you're keeping the plan anyway. Good luck.
