            @chromium: @chromium

Felix for me has been a fantastic service… All my family/friends are with Felix.

I've been with them since they first started.

They are a company of TPG and use Vodafone as Corcivillius mentioned.

There will always be people that don't like the service but it's mostly the same complaints.

            • they use the simcard in a modem which is against the t&c's. Then complain when they get a warning their service might be cancelled.
            • they complain about speeds even though it's well advertised a max speed of 20mbps.
            • the conspiracy theory that their speed is being throttled because their a 'high data user'… That rule doesn't exist.

Even though they don't allow you to use your service in a modem because it's not a "replacement of home internet" product you can hotspot from your phone to as many devices as you need.

      • Nah not asking for a free phone at all I'm happy to pay for the phone. I think my comment might of been misunderstood.

        I'll explain in more detail

        Optus
        $69 * 24 = $1656 (including the phone) only receiving 100gb

        Felix -
        $35 * 24 = $840 + $828 Optus cancellation = $1668 (including the phone) unlimited data

So I am deciding whether or not to:

Cancel Optus and stay with Felix for a 24 month total of $1668 - With unlimited data & perfectly fine 4G speeds

Stay with Optus and pay for a 24 month total of $1656 - With 100gb data & 5G speeds

My average data usage is 200GB … That would mean I would need to ask Optus for a higher plan with more data therefore increasing my costs with Optus.

Hopefully offer/match a similar plan… Could could simply be giving me more data and it's then a matching or a similar plan.

    • Wait, you use over 200GB/month on Felix?
I'm on Felix too and use probably half of that, I was always worried I'd get their dreaded letter if I pushed it too much further. If they haven't bothered you about 200GB I'll start using mine some more :)

      • Yeah… Always used as much as I've wanted.

        This month is 170gb
        Sept 130gb
        Aug 180gb
        Just 201gb

        • Perhaps a silly question but does the login provide those details? I've never actually logged in as my simcard lives in a 4G modem (shhh) so it's a minor hassle checking the sim for messages.

          • @Click_It: Unfortunately, you do need to see the data details in the Felix app.

          • @Click_It: How do you get away with using it in a modem?

    • That plan doesn't exist any more I would be careful about moving away and losing your grandfathered plan. Felix is pretty good when you use it for home internet I was using 500gb+ a month.

      • Huh? It's not grandfathered.

        • Yes it is, If you left and wanted to come back it would be $40.

          • @denserham: I wouldn't call that grandfathered… That's just a price increase.
Grandfathered plans are generally plans where features, inclusion and benefits have changed. The price increase wouldn't be considered grandfathered.

            • +1

@Chippps: Why not? That is a strange distinction to make, price is a feature of a plan.

To me If a plan exists but new customers cannot get it. It is grandfathered.

Seems like splitting hairs to me. But if you don't want to call it grandfathered call it anything else but if you leave you wont be able to get it for $35 anymore.

And if you are using more than 200gb a month you should probably stay with them unless you can get optus to give you 250gb-300gb a month for the same price which would be a stretch as somebody who has dealt with their phone/chat support.

  • +24

Congrats to all the professionals who managed to get this phone for $828 😁

    • +3

Yes and congrats to those that ordered 5 and ruined it for everyone else.

  • +4

Damn I'm in store currently and they said they stopped the deal last night (last minute).

  • +1

I went in-store on the 12th, they took my deposit but said the system was down/wasn't able to onboard customers at the time. They told me to come back on the weekend. I went in today and told me the deal was gone.
I spoke to Optus as I felt that they should really honour the deal for me. Optus said speak to HN. HN said speak to Optus
Not to mention HN is an hour drive away from my place. What a time waster.

    • they took my deposit

How much deposit did they take? Phone is $0 with the plan unless you upgraded to 256gb or 512gb?

      • +2

They took $50, saying they'd refund it once the plan was sorted out

        • +5

That's… Suspicious. I certainly didn't have to pay a deposit.

    • +6

What convenient timing for the 'system to be down' after they realised their promo was losing 100k+

  • +1

I was going to go down this weekend and do the plan cancel for $838. Very sad to see the deal ended on Friday. Looking to get a Pixel 8 Pro 512gb for around $1200, any idea where to get it?

    • +4

Do you by any chance have access to a time machine…?

      • +1

Over-active imagination when I was 14 and massive confidence in my self, said to my self, remember this time and moment and if future self can travel through time, come to this point in time. Older self didn't appear moments later, but that doesn't mean it's not possible, I've just drank way to many beers to remember that exact point of time to return to.

        • +1

          This is the Aussie way.

      • Going to need enough road to get up to 88MPH or he'll be OUTATIME

    • +1

Doubt you'll be getting it for that price anywhere for some time. Maybe wait til Black Friday, see if anything comes up then? Certainly wouldn't hold my breath.

      • +1

Not even Black Friday would get to $1200. You would have to wait 6 months min to get to around that…. For P8Pro

        • +1

Yeah it was more of a 'wait for Black Friday, hope and pray'. I really don't expect that price even for the 128GB version for a few months at least

    • Some people are selling the HN stock on eBay/Gumtree/FB, pretty shitty thing to do imo but if you missed out it might be the next cheapest price.

  • +1

Hopefully the cancellation invoice allows split payments so discounted prepaid credit cards can be used.

    • Which discounted prepaid cards are you using, is there an active promo currently? Or have you been holding onto them instead of putting into a HISA?

      • I bought a lot so still have some left over from a previous deal.

  • Could anyone tell me whether the phone comes with its own invoice?

    • +3

Yes it does, comes with a receipt which references the phone plan and says $0

      • Thanks

  • +6

Harvey Norman (Hornsby but collectively) can get absolutely screwed. Was told over the phone everything is done and ready to pick up, get there and they've sold my phone to someone else and cancelled the plan, now it's ended so I can't sign up and then they had the nerve to ask me if I was interested in signing up with a $500 gift card. Really hope the person who they gave my phone to cancels and costs them money because I was going to stay on it.

    • If you went through the process and have now signed up with Optus then it's a completed contract and HN's duty to fulfill their side of the agreement. I could be wrong but I'd be surprised if I am. They expect you to talk to Optus, cancel a contract without any fees telling them you never got the phone? Doesn't sound right to me.

If you never went through said process then it's a whole different matter and HN aren't under any obligation to honor your wishes, unfortunately.

      • Yes, would think they're unable to cancel if the contract has been issued

        • +1

Not sure who cancelled, Optus or HN. If it was Optus, I'd go TIO. Might do it anyway, they'll be forced to respond.

    • Did they already make the Optus credit enquiry and contracts signed? Might be able to seek remedy via ACC perhaps if that happened

      • +2

Already approved for credit enquiry, signed contract and was told it would be emailed. Firstly got told they kept one aside for me out the back and then oh sorry we've sold that one you'll get the next allocation in about a week. Then got told due to the volume of orders and network issues it may not be instant but will take 15mins-4 hours. Store was closing in 10, they told me it was all good but to come back if there was any issues.

Came back in the next day and was told there was no record of it.

        • Did you receive any phone invoice from HN when you left the store?

          • @evilhomura89: Was given a copy of the CIS and received a SIM card stapled to it which was active but which now is dead and my account isn't working.

Went into Optus and they saw my order ID was processed but unable to view details.

Also Optus before I could get the credit approval I was told I had to email my bank statement, signed lease agreement and recent bill as a PDF. Was amazed that a company that has been majorly breached before is still so lax.

            • @pennypincher98: That's a difficult one, not sure if they are really obliged to complete the transaction, similar to how a bank might pull a credit application at the last second as they no longer want to fulfill the deal.

Not sure how HN has the authority to cancel your Optus plan without your authorisation though given it was already created? That is the part that they may have f***ked up. And if that Optus plan is active and you've purchased the plan on the basis of the free phone offer, to then deny it may be a misrepresentation which breaches Aus consumer law.

Best to speak to your state consumer protection authority and maybe raise a dispute against HN. Either they've basically shafted you with no recourse, or a manager has decided to unlawfully pull the deal on you without any regard for consumer law.

        • +1

Also your point on that they had 'no record of your order' sounds like the manager has tried to cancel your order and sweep it under the rug tbh, dodgy af.

          • @rekke: Yeah I have no idea what has happened but it sounds so dodgy. Given HN + Optus track record so far maybe I should just stay far away from both of them.

I'll see what my options are and try to fight it but tbh I haven't got many details. They apparently use a different system to Optus in store so I'm not sure how I could prove considering HN isn't going to just voluntarily hand over the details.

            • +4

@pennypincher98: Ask to speak to the franchisee of that department.

Let them know your next call is to head office. That will normally make them act as it is part of their performance review.

If they don't act call head office, from the store if you want. 02 92016111 iirc.

Tell them your next call is to fair trading or similar. They will normally do pretty much anything to avoid that hassle.

I have had them call the franchisee and fix an issue on the spot for me.

    • sorry this has happened to you!

if you tried to signed up on Friday night, best guess is their system went down and couldn't process it properly in time before the deal closed.
If not, when did you sign up? If the order went through, they should’ve invoiced it under your phone number and account and reserved the phone for you.
We have the ability to cancel a pending order we created, but idk why they wouldn’t just hope in continuing it.

      • he has signed the contract. and have been issued paperwork and even the sim! this just need escalation and no reason it wont be rectified!

        • if the contract has been signed, then the optus contract was successfully submitted, the service should be active and the invoice should be in their system.
HN can’t cancel a service after it has been activated as we have 0 authority in cancellations.
my best bet would be to call the store, ask for the invoice and if its there, just hope they dont screw you over AGAIN with stock.
not sure why your sim worked and then stopped, thats odd.

      • +4

        Thought I'd provide an update:
        - Optus says they have they can see the order ID with a status "To Be Cancelled" because of reason "Port in Rejected". The port in was in fact not rejected, which has thrown that number into a weird limbo state.
        - The order is by "Digital Sales" which is joint Optus "Online Team" and HN Dealer. Was told it could have been modified/cancelled on either end.
        - HN Hornsby have done multiple orders and credit checks with varying states (Open, Handle Credit Check Referral etc).
        - The guy that screwed me over is the owner.
        - The order is in HN system (Uno) as the same "To Be Cancelled" but because it was a different dealer/store he couldn't access much info.

First initial thought is when I signed the contract they didn't actually submit the order afterward. Doesn't explain the SIM card though.

        • Did you manage to get a resolution? It seems they're at fault and should offer a compromise of some sort.

          • @boomersgold: No resolution, I was told I wouldn't have to pay the cancellation fee which lol how generous.

Honestly still got the Pixel 7 Pro I got for ~$500 from the JB deal in box, was going to sell it to Mobile Monster but I'll just use it instead, go on a cheaper plan and use a data SIM.

  • +1

Ah fk didnt see the updated date 😔

  • +1

Just got a call from HN Wiley Park saying my Pixel 8 Pro 256GB Bay is delayed by a couple weeks.

  • So I thought my phone was running slow and sluggish. I decided to run a speed test on my P7P and P8P. The results were constantly drastic between the two. I ensured I always used the same servers and never ran the speed tests at the same time. My P7P would get 140-250 Mbps and only 1-6 Mbps on my P8P. Both phones have the same updates installed. Anyone else having this issue?

I quick search shows this is happening to quite a few people.

    • I'm having jittering issues during scrolling but my main issue has been trying to download some of my games (Genshin, Honkai, Epic7) and they're downloading unbearably slow. Not sure what's going on with data over wifi but it's bad.

    • Is this over wifi or data?

If wifi make sure you are on 5Ghz rather than 2.4Ghz.

Are you doing speed test with browser or speedtest android app?

You can also try fast.com as an alternative speed test site (powered by netflix)

    • +1

Had it since release day and comparing it to a Pixel 6 Pro. Speeds on WiFi the same and 5G much higher (and stronger signal).

My (expensive) AX 4x4 router delivers my full gigabit down speed and full upload on WiFi, and my Boost 5G speeds are 50Mbps higher, 4G roughly the same.

    • Not here. 5G download speed is 646 Mbps and 4G is 217 Mbps.

    • Assuming wifi: Didn't happen to give your p7 priority on the network did you?

    • On wifi I'm getting 950/45, which is the same as my old S23U. Looks like the P8P supports 160Mhz

      • How is the Pixel 8 Pro compared to the S23 Ultra? Any insight? I've enjoyed coming to Android from the iOS ecosystem the past few days but wondering if there is maybe better hardware to fully get the best experience.

        • +4

In terms of software experience, Pixel has always been the best as it is just plain pure vanilla Android experience, Samsung tends to come with Samsung bloatwares. Day to day use, it has been pretty good experience and the face unlock supporting banking apps, is icing on the cake, just that it won't work properly under low light condition (iPhone trumps over this with their IR flood sensors).

In terms of performance and battery wise, I reckoned S23 ultra trumps over Pixel 8 Pro as Snapdragon for this gen is pretty efficient and speedier than the samsung fabbed Tensor G3s processor. However, if you use it for just day to day usage, watching Youtubes or streaming movies and listen songs, making phone call, its just fine. I don't play games on mobile phones (rarely) so no comments.

For this Optus deal, it is a bargain, otherwise I wouldn't get this for the RRP.

This is my take, others, YMMV.

        • +3

Pretty similar experience once you start getting specs that high up imo.

However the fact that Pixel 8 Pro has 3 years extra system and security updates (or maybe 4 years since Galaxy S23 was released a while ago now) its pretty much a KO in terms of 'value'. I also just prefer the camera of the Pixel 7/8 Pro versus the Galaxy S23. I've taken photos with an S23, an S23 ultra and a Pixel 7/8 Pro and the Pixel came out superior at least for my eyes.

Also Google software and AI just dominates Samsung's tbh, we are comparing here the top software company in the world versus a hardware manufacturer.

I am biased as I upgraded from Galaxy S23 (normal) to Pixel 8 Pro in this deal.

    • Resetting my Bluetooth and Network settings looks to have fixed my issue. I setup my P8P from a P7P backup.

  • Got my first bill. It included the last 9 days which was $20.70 and then $69 for next month. So these are prepaid plans now? I always thought they were known as post paid plans.

The good news is they honour the $10 discount they offered me for 6 months, so total bill was only $79.70 and will only be $59 from next month. Down to $32/month over $24 months for the plan so far. I'll see if I can get another discount in 6 months :D

    • They charge ahead of usage? Then why the credit check?

    • Down to $32/month over $24 months

      How so?

      • Got on live chat and said I wanted to cancel (I didn't) and they offered me $10/month off for 6 months. Others have got better deals than that, but I'm happy enough with that. Was always planning on keeping the plan because it's pretty decent. I get $32/month by subtracting $828 for the phone and then taking the plan at ($828 - $60)/24 = $32 :)

  • +1

Anyone still waiting for final bill after cancelling?

    • +4

Me. Cancelled last Sat and am still waiting.

  • I got the bill for $69 due Oct 31st. If the 256GB Pixel 8 Pro phone not arrived yet, I would have to pay the bill. Has anyone attempt to chat to Optus to defer this invoice or they don't care as they sell you the plan not phone, its HN selling you the phone.

    • +1

I got a 1 month hold. They were going to charge me $5.50 but I argued that their agent, HN, should pay it as they couldn't supply the phone on launch day. They agreed and waived the fee.

      • I managed to use Optus online chatbot and extended to 13th November for my first bill which was meant to be due 30 Oct.

Let see what happens and hopefully I get the phone by then.

That's literally 3 weeks from the day I signed up….lets see if I do get the phone then

Its true that their agent HN cannot supply the phone. Right now I have the SIM not used at all.

  • Cancelled on the first day and received my final bill. The bill total is 837.20.

    • yeah but you got your phone yet? Right now most people who wanted 256GB haven't got theirs. We will see in a few weeks time.

  • +1

Curious, for those that haven't received their phones yet, could there be a scenario where the phones are just never fulfilled? Would the contract then just be cancelled automatically?

  • +8

Hopefully this will help a few people and the common Qs few of my mates got this deal…etc not 100% but based on about ~6 ppl.

First month waived? Depends on if you got the plan cancelled and it went through on the day you signed up and you have not used the service. Your signal will disconnect AND your optus account should say cancelled. Double check, cancellation may not have gone through. Your billing cycle begins the day after you signed up and you will receive the bill as such. If the above didn't apply to you then it's up to Optus customer service. Some had it waived after some arguing but the one who plugged in his sim and phone downloaded half a gb of updates was a hard no from the optus customer service and was pushed to use the remainder of his data before cancelling.

Haven't received your phone?? HN assured that they will receive their phones, notification for pick would be via SMS on the number you signed up/ported in/number you wrote when you signed up. Re-stocking throughout the next few weeks on a first in first out basis. You may need to call up the store if you already cancelled your service. Those who got the Bay 256 followed by the white 256 will be waiting the longest. Apparently there is a decent amount of stock but allocation from Google is slow.

Final Bill/cancellation fee? Should receive your final bill in your next billing cycle. i.e. around a month after you signed up. You will receive the bill for the first month the day after you signed up due in 2 weeks. This is separate from the final bill and if you couldn't get it waived you'll need to pay both separately.

TIP: if HN ask about your service if you've cancelled the plan…etc it's none of their business. You get the Phone as part of the deal when you signed up to the plan, it wasnt stay on the plan for 24 months…etc. What happens with Optus and the service is none of their concern. They can not deny you the phone if your cancelled the service but it's always better to just avoid that topic entirely.

  • +7

To those who tried but missed out for some reason - try lodging a formal complaint with HN.

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/help-and-support/compliments…

One of my family members went in on the 12th and couldn't sign up in time before they closed. Was advised to come back as deal was on till the 19th. Following the complaint, HN honoured the deal today and gave a discount on a case and screen protector.

As for me, I'm still waiting on my allocation! I preordered on the 8th (256GB Bay) and missed out. However HN called and last week and advised they've secured one from another store. Hopefully it arrives soon!

    • +1

man thats so nice. apparently there are 10 orders before mine…didnt know it will be that limited

    • I'm confused at this because does this mean HN or Optus ended the deal?

      • +1

Depends on who you talk to. From what I was told, all HN stores received a lengthy email on the w/e.

1 - Overwhelming amount of orders and can't meet demand
2 - Too many cancellations which impact them and their dealer (HN)

    • Update: Received the 256GB Obsidian today. I called the store and the stock transfer came in. Happy days 😎

  • +1

I pre-ordered 256G black on 6th of Oct. Just collected it from Nunawading HN, VIC.

The phone comes with a sticker showing SOLD and with my name on it when the sales person handed it to me. For those who feel concerned to cancel Optus plan prior to receiving the phone, I think it should be fine. I cancelled my plan on 13 Oct.

    • Why did you only collect it today? I ordered on the same day as you and collected on the 13th.

and yeah, mine had a sticker on it with my name on as well :)

    • yeah same, had my name and sold.

I did notice when i called up and gave my number (not optus one) they couldn't find it. I then gave the optus number then it came up.

When i looked at the sticker, it had the optus number on there and on my receipt, not my contact number that I gave them.

Probably explains why he said he couldn't reach me that morning. Called the optus number

    • Did you call them up to see where the phone was or did they SMS you? I'm still waiting for my 128gb…

      • I called them myself around 10ish on launch day.

The guy did tell me there is a chance I may not be in the first batch since they all allocated already (256 porcelain) but they did get some more in it seems.

I picked up that arvo around 1pm.

I got mine ordered through on Saturday (7/10)

        • Thanks. Ill probably call them in the morning to see where they are at - last time they just said "we'll text when it's ready" ….. Whatever that means lol

          • @JuryWheel: yeah, defs call them up and see

I don't expect much from HN staff to be attentive and actually do something. Just going into the store you get a feel that they just stand around and chat to each other.

Given i went to a different store and all the staff were just chatting away and i'm standing there waiting. Even asking a guy from AV to call someone over for mobiles.

I left 5min after as he never even bothered to call someone over and went to Mt Gravatt and all sorted in 15min of walking in. Didnt have to wait or ask anyone.

When i called up he said he notified me on the optus number… Don't have a phone to use that sim with so can't really get the notification now can i

    • Thanks its always easy to say this when you got your phone in your hand. Bay 256gb I don't expect until second week of November if anything

  • My partner ordered last Tuesday 10/10 and had her number ported over. Since then the Optus sim is still not active, her account still shows 'pending' but has got her phone since Thursday.. No idea what's going on because I've ported an endless amount of times and always processes within a few hours.
