This will be my first 3D printer but I've heard good things - Notably that it is fast. Best to do your own research to decide if this is right for you.

Below are a couple of YouTube videos that helped my research.

These have unresolved firmware issues that elegoo still hasn't fixed despite shovelling out two new models. (Look into the z offset persistence issue for example)

Elegoo seems to just be leveraging community fixes for their dodgy klipper implementation.

3d printer cannot be generally fast, it always depends on the material you use to print. For example, if you wanna print mechanical parts you'd want ABS and it needs to be printed extremely slow

    • if you wanna print mechanical parts you'd want ABS and it needs to be printed extremely slow

      why extremely slow?

ABS is more about printing in enclosure to avoid warping rather than printing slow

      • 50mm/s is the maximum speed I managed to get in an enclosure, and that's what most people say about their printing speed

        • you still didn't answer the question

why when printing mechanical parts in ABS, it needs to printed extremely slow?

also how fast can you print with PLA?

I would recommend a skip on these. I bought one and had so many issues (both hardware and firmware) that I returned it.
    Short version is;
    - Firmware issues regarding levelling (among other things)
    - Hardware issue with the bed levelling screws loosening after a few prints due to the print bed speed
    - Hardware issues with the z height sensor not accurately reading with temperature shifts

I spent more time trouble shooting than printing.

    • If I hit snags with the 3 Pro (just purchased) firmware I'll hook up a raspberry pi with Klipper. Any chance you tried the 4 with Klipper? Would be interested to know.

      • Check out the Elegoo discord. Was extremely helpful for me. The community is great and as someone mentioned above Elegoo seem to lean on them for customer suppor, including how tos for installing stock klipper.

  • Bought the 3 Pro a couple of days ago. Good price at $279.

    • Whoa was that on ozb? Great price!

Found it on eBay. Here's the link… Price is still the same.
        Neptune 3 Pro

  • I am a little concerned by these comments. I got my Neptune 4 around a month ago and it's my first printer. With no prior experience, I have no way to tell whether I am experiencing any of these issues or what is normal printer behaviour.

If your prints are good don't worry too much about it. If you start having problems then you can worry about firmware upgrades and the like. I've got a 3 pro and it's been plug and play for the most part outside of finding a good temperature range for my PLA. Im skipping the 4 because I feel that it's not worth an upgrade from my 3, but that being said if one of the 4 Max's goes cheap I'd consider it. Otherwise I'll wait til a 5 comes out and pull the trigger then.

Get a Bambu lab new A1 mini. It is waaaay better than any other bed slinger printers. It is faster than X1C. Only negative is its build plate size is small.

    • Other negatives with bamboo is price in comparison to other offerings and no open source firmware options if that sort of thing bothers you.

      • Bambu slicer is good enough to modify settings and play around for beginners. And if you use orca slicer, you can do further. And A1's pirce is as same as a printer in the posting and way faster and gives waay better quaily. BTW, What sort of things you do with open source firmaware??

        • The sky is the limit with open source firmware, klipper for example has new features all the time. Just about any aspect of the print can be controlled, far beyond any slicer.the bamboo p1 is closer to the Neptune size but that is $1k. I agree the smaller bamboo is good for a beginner but they would likely outgrow the small build area.

don't get small build plate printer
eventually you gonna want to print part that will not fit on the small build plate, so you are just wasting money.

better to just get an ender 3 and learn all about the printer from tinkering with it.
