are they going out of business? so many are closing down. are they just trying to make more before they go bankrupt and making these credits useless because no more timezones will be available? i have almost $500 loaded on my card, i need to use it fast before all the timezones close down.

    • +5

I don’t know about closing down, in my area anyway they’ve just opened a new one recently.

    • +4

dont think so, during weekends and school holidays they are definitely packed

    • +1

A few in my area have changed ownership to iPlay, but they seem to be doing well otherwise

      • +1

Any that usually change to iplay are not Timezone owned stores, just franchised and part of a different group.

    • I do wonder if they are trying to hoard more cash as float? It looks like such double credit promotion has been getting fairly frequent.

    • +3

"so many are closing down", examples?

    • Probably IPO attempt. They have VC money right now so aim is always a float.

    • they just opened a new one in Braybrook, Vic

    • +1

Which ones have closed? If anything I’ve noticed them opening many new stores in the past 12 months. I do wonder though why they’re doing double dollar days so frequently now. They never used to do it this much. Maybe making up for lost profits during Covid times?? 🤷‍♀️
I’ve been to the ones in the city during double days, and even on normal day during the week/weekend and it’s always so packed.

They’d be making a lot of money. My son had $300-400 on his card. After playing many ticket machines and claw machines. He got a giant plushie with his tickets which I reckon would’ve cost Timezone less then $20. But he had fun at least. I only ever top up during double dollar days

      • Theyve closed one in Wetherill park stocklands and replaced it with iplay

  • How long does credit last?

    • +3

1 year from the date of last use/swipe

      • -1

        Seriously!?

  • +3

Ozbargainers running around for 50 cent profit would happily waste away on these ripoffs

    • -1

I'm always surprised these deals are so popular. Is it for parents that have children that insist on playing at TZ?

      • +3

        Obviously?

      • +2

        Yes

      • Caz "rich" aussies need to find a way to waste the windfall from housing

      • +2

Yep, kids. I've done this double credit thing once or twice now.

Until they are old enough to understand the math behind how much of a rip-off it is, just need to keep them away from Timezone…

Some games might be fun to play, but everything around the games is utter rip-off. Ticket machines yield the worse prizes.

Claw machine's, people still think they hone the skills, but really it's pure luck in that if you stumbled on a machine that's had 20 tries already and the machine's ready to pay out, then you're just lucky. You can also roughly time it, I've stood on the sidelines to watch people play the machine out, then came in and won it in 2 tries.

But honestly, the claw machines and what not is really gambling, even for a young age, you watch how each child goes tantrum, begging the parent to do one more try, then after that fails, just one more try. I am surprised that no one brings this up, I guess aside from the fact that the parent can and should control the child, I've also seen grown adults throwing $50 at it and walk away with nothing, it's pure gambling, not skill based at all.

        • Recently saw a (I assume) mum sitting like a zombie playing the coin-shelf-pushing-game-thingy whilst her two young school kids mucked around her waiting for her…pretty sad…

          • -2

@John Kimble: I saw a guy do that once, he looked like an addict. People just don't realise that even these game venues is starting people off in a gambling path.

        • +1

Mark Rober made an awesome YouTube video showing how those reward games are all rigged. Pretty clever stuff he used to prove it :)

Kids love watching him, so it's a good educational material for them too.

  • I did this for my girls in February. Hassle free & good value.

Really enjoying the confidence building aspect of TZ for my two little ones, trying different activities in sensory overwhelming environments.

Prices are comparable to 80s arcades eg. I last topped up $200 for $80 and mpst games are $2.50 so that works out to $1 a game. I'm no economist, but I think most things have gone up 2-4x since the 80s.

My long term OZB TZ strat is to drop a grand to get to plat and then throw a party there for my boy in 2-3 years and get something good from the 100,000+ tickets we'll have.

    • What benefits do you get for being plat when having a party? Thanks

      • +1

20% off versus 10% off for gold.

        • +1

Be careful with that. I tried to do the same. I had been platinum for several months. Booked a birthday for my son and thought I was going to get the discount but upon paying the apologetic teen told me that it hadn't been MY birthday since becoming platinum, so I wasn't entitled to the discount. The manager ended up approving a Gold discount, but still - buyer beware

    • +1

Was it $1 per game back in the 80s? I think that was quite expensive for $1 back in those days.

      • No that's why I used the terms 'comparable' and '2-4x inflation'

  • +1

Just in time! Need to clock Bishi Bashi again

  • -1

I have TZ around the corner. The games are quite expense to play. it's about $2.5 to $3.5 per game. Some and go for $4.00.

so if you load $60 = you receive $120 @ $2.5 u will get about 48 games. Roughly about 1 hours game play. I'm no gamer.

    • So $120 for an hours play…wow…who can afford it..

    • +1

Always been that way in the arcade. you play quarter crunchers and crane games, your money goes away quickly. Play fighting games and rhythm games, that's about 5 minutes per token.

Infact, arcade games are more honest now, games used to all be like contra, good luck making your dollar last more a mnute

  • TC no 3 says "Valid on $100 increment amounts"
    Is $60 increment of 100?

  • Does any of the timezones in vic have the initial D arcade?

  • Can anyone tell me if I load for example $100 and get $200 - can I use this credit when ever I want ? Or does it have to be between those specific 2 days ?

    • You can use it whenever you want; just don't let it expire (which is 12 months from last use)

      • Thank you for the answer.

  • Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade 2 cards to Gold ($250 spend) and get 2x 1 free daily game benefit, rather than upgrading 1 card to Platinum which requires $1k spend for 2 free daily games?

Is there something I'm missing in the Platinum tier benefit that's meaningful?

  • Anyone know of any timezones in Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast that have a racing game with both a manual shifter and also a clutch pedal?
I have been to Garden City, Surfers Paradise and Indooroopilly but none of them seemed to have one.

    • Doubt timezone would have any. Best you might be able to do is the funhouse in the Myer Centre. If they still have the Battle Gear 4 cabs I recall them having a clutch pedal. As for whether the game is any fun, I'm not sure.

  • Is there any reason we can't use https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/797948 deal and stack with the load $60 get $120 credits? For total of $120 credits at $40 cost? Everyone keeps talking about load $100 for $200 credits and pay $80

    • +2

1 voucher per registered member, cannot be used in conjunction with Double Dollar loads of less than $100.

  • I can’t imagine spending that sort of money on games that might give you half the number of tickets you need to get a water pistol

I go to these places on very rare occasions, maybe spend $10-20 being a big kid and give the tickets to a kid who looks disappointed they can’t get the useless thing they wanted

    • How do you give tickets considering they're not physical?

  • can you use credit for food and drink at zone or kingpin?

I know you can use the credit to bowl but not if you can get food with the credit.

    • How do you use the credit to bowl?

      • according to the faq.

Can I use my Arcade Credit and Powertickets at other Timezone locations?

Yes, both Arcade Credit and Powertickets are transferable between all venues in Australia and now even Zone Bowling and Kingpin!

unless they mean just the crappy arcade options at zone. probably check with the venue. the timezone next to me has a zone bowling attached to it.

        • Thanks been looking too, not sure if it just means you can use the credit on arcade games at the bowling venues or if you can use the credit for bowling

        • This only means you can play the arcade games at kingpin

    • Nope. Only for arcade games. Can't be used for activities or food
