Intel are taking the piss now! How many more cpu's are they gonna make? So many different models and after just releasing the 13series, now a 14! Too many! Should make a handful and be done with it

    • This video image from HUB pretty much sums it all up [ this is fine ] haha

14th Gen is 100% the same as 13th gen :) .. the name is the only thing that's changed.. ohh and 100Mhz + more power usage for that 100Mhz

This release is for OEM's to sell new desktops/laptops with a new name and number

      • +1

Not quite 100%. There's some sizeable improvements in some productivity tasks like Blender apparently from early benchmark tests.

Very little to non-existent change to gaming though.

  • +1

Local stores are selling it at $529…

    • it's confusing but shallothead is local - they're the same mob who run shopping express

      • +2

They always charging a high price first then do a discount, personally I really don’t like this.
Rather get it from the local stores for $4 more, or waiting for a local store special.

        • they are a local australian-run store, just a scummy one who also operate on ebay.

          • @lachlantula: Doesn't matter local runs or what, any stores doing that way is just making people sick of it.

Massive 2 fps gain over the 13600k at 1080p haha

    i paid 220 for a 13600kf like 6 months ago
    this price is madness

    • +6

hey don't doubt the bigger number

    • +11

Now that’s a deal, how’d you get that price?

    • +6

Why didn't you post the deal?

    • +3

      Care to share your invoice?

Using a 12400f now and I got no interest on 14th Gen.

    • Same socket anyway if you choose to upgrade later…

  • 13600K is going for under $500, for gaming this is no better.

  • Just few fps improved from 13600, get 13600 instead when they are on special.

  • I keep hearing about heat on these 13th (and now 14th) generation chips. Can they be air cooled or is it just pointless?

    • +1

The xx600 should be fine with a (good) air cooler, but for xx700 or xx900 you’ll want an AIO

      • Not necessarily true. For mixed workloads a good air cooler is fine.

    • I got the 13600k. With the cheap thermalright phantom spirit. Barely over 30deg in normal browsing. Even heavy games. It keeps it under 70deg. Very happy.

  • +2

Ah the 13th gen Plus from Intel.

  • +2

I use about 25% of the power of my 13600KF. Just sayin

  • +4

Love the gamers nexus YouTube review of these new 14th gen CPUs
    https://youtu.be/8KKE-7BzB_M?si=GpbyVkWEmt4hxFn-

    • Hub is better.. the graphs are easier to read

    • In my mind this was the only meaningful thing we got from this release, a hilarious video from GN.

  • Performance isn't an huge improvement, but any info on temps or wattage? I'm thinking probably not

    • +1

All new CPU’s run hot by design. For gaming… The 14600k uses double the power that a 7800x3d uses and is much slower for gaming. The 14900k is still slower than the amd chip for gaming with even crazier power draw. The 7800x3d chip barely costs more than a 14600k and is like $350 less than a 14900k which it still out performs in games while using 1/3rd of the power doing that. Reviews can be googled [TPU] (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i5-14600k/)

Probably stuffed my formatting as I’m in mobile atm, sorry

      • Ive been looking at the 7800x3d. What is the chipset to go with for boards? B650?

        • +1

Decide on features then check connections that you will use then buy the cheapest well-reviewed board that fits those parameters. You should also consider if you will surrender to upgradeitis and pick up a pcie5 gpu or nvme at some point which is the typicical differentiation point between the best price performance budget boards and more expensive offerings.
All the launch boards are astonishingly overbuilt for the most part and it's hard to imagine any of their VRMs struggling with whatever the ultimate am5 cpu series ends up being.

  • Does the iGPU support AV1 enc?

    • +2

No this is rebranded Raptor Lake(13th gen)
I think only AMD's RDNA3 iGPUs have AV1 encode right now.
Otherwise you need to go discrete.

      • the Dec release of Intel 14th gen mobile chips should have AV1 enc.

    • No, 15th gen intel cpus will.

  • +1

Pretty much just 1-2% faster than 13600k (which is $489), don't bother. 14th gen is a dud.

  • Intel CPU are like heater, power consumption are crazy high and the heat output is boiling hot.
