Dark blend does not contain blueberries, it has black currants.

    • Ahh… good pick up! I thought it was too good to be true - went off the picture, oops!

I made the same mistake a few weeks ago when they were onsale i think for the same price, i bought 3 bags. Black currants are fine but not as good as Blueberries.
I just buy the family size bags of frozen blueberries, they are goodish value.

Or support Australian farmers and get fresh berries and freeze them. Taste better too

    • +2

Can't say I've seen any fresh blackcurrants.

    • +5

oh wow i didn't even see they are imported from Chile.
Well my wallet can only afford these instead of fresh :(

      • Ive seen strawberries ar $ 8 to $10 a kg from coles to woolworths. And blueberries from $12-$14. Raspberries and blackberries are almost $30 to $40bucks unfortunately.

        The website has the copout

Refer to the Country of Origin labelling on the packaging

I.e. they'll change the source at a whim.
Does it say "product of Chile" or "packed in Chile"? The problem is some countries I wouldn't buy berries from, as their hygiene practices are questionable. These aren't cooked or treated for things like hepatitis & usually not tested. The problem with "packed in" is they can import the berries from another country and packed in that country (NZ did that a few years ago).

        • +2

When i was in NZ last in July they had a warning on all the frozen berries that they had to be cooked before consumption as there had been hepatitis contamination.

@twjr: I’m starting to consider hep A vaccination for my kid due to travel and his love of frozen berries.

            • +3

@morse: Lol to people negging this - there are countries where hep a is endemic, I intend to travel to with said child, and the hep A vacc is recommended. It’s a more global world these days, having some resistance to something that might turn up on your frozen fruit or sushi isn’t a bad thing.

            • +1

@morse: its a recommendation for certain countries, when i went to India they told me i needed it then.

              • @bezerk: I think it's even recommended as part of the usual vaccination schedule for the USA. I've had it for travel too, so it seems sensible to get if for my child since he devours frozen fruit and it's one of the main sources of it in Australia.

and pay twice or thrice as much.

Not when they're in season and you visit a fruit shop/market.

Frozen fresh berries is not the same (nutritionally) as flash frozen berries. They are frozen shortly after harvest

      • There's a study from 2015 that has found that frozen blueberries have a bit more antioxidants than fresh ones.

  • pity the seeds in them are huge!

    • +2

The seeds in the pitted cherries?

      • +1

the seeds in the blackberries and blackcurrants

    • that's what she said

Dark Blend is okay, good at this price.

More of a fan of the Coles brand mixed berries, as it doesn't contain strawberries, which I prefer to add separately when in season.

These go down to $3.10 regularly

I eat these all the time, they go well in my high protein yoghurt for brekky, especially in summer as they defrost and cool the yoghurt at the same time…i put half a container of yoghurt in the bowl and pour these on top, my fave day is the day i get to have the other half of the yoghurt and be lazy, save a bowl and dump the fruit directly in the yoghurt container…

i dont get into calling out other countries as though theyre spreading pestilence if theyre not a state of Straya, but thats just me…more for me

100% I even go the spatula when I eat the last part from the tub. Don’t want any of the yogurt goodness going to waste.

Just as I was running out, especially since I make daily fruit/veg smoothies!

For those who might be interested, the Ruby Fruit Blend is the best option for those mindful of their calorie count, with the least carbs, sugar, and the most dietary fibre. However in saying that, variety is the spice of life and its actually beneficial to vary what we consume even if we could enjoy eating/drinking the same blend day after day, so if stocking up, perhaps just weight it towards Ruby Fruit for those this applies to. I got a bunch of Ruby Fruit in the past when it was the only one on sale and tired of them pretty quickly.

Also if you have a nice blender (Vitamin etc) you can easily change the ratio of milk and ice to turn smoothies into fresh yoghurts in seconds too. Delicious on the hot days.

  • I tried the Summer Blend recently ..it has more pineapples than anything else.
