Everything anybody could possibly want out of a phone and more.

    • -6

not waterproof tho. But for this price just buy a new one lol

    • Would it be better than my Note 10+.

Even if its somewhat close would be fine. I don't use the pen so dont worry bout that part.

      • +2

Note 10+ has 12GB ram though and has better tech for screen.

        • My Note 10+ is only 6GB ram, so not all configurations are 12GB

          • @dottjt: Are you sure yours is a Note 10 "plus"?
Last I checked all Plus models had 12 GB ram. Different processors though but always 12 GB ram.
Note 10 Lite has 6 or 8 GB. Note 10 has 8 or 12 GB. Note 10 Plus only has 12 GB.

    • Looking at it but has got no fingerprint or face unlock.
Still a good buy. Has all I wanted. 5000mh battery and expandable storage.
Comparing it with my Moto G82.
Chipset, OLED screen and fingerprint sensor are the only thing between this and G82.

      • +2

It has a fingerprint reader integrated into the power button

    • Does it have an IR blaster?

  • LCD screen though

    • +3

neo AMOLED was 299 half price, this is 299 rrp so expect <250 on sale

      • Link pls

  • +1

Does it have dual physical sim?

  • +1

So its better and newer than Edge 30 Neo (and also has eSim) yet they've priced it half of what it was wow

    • I don't get that how they made it half the RRP price of Edge 30 Neo and better

    • +2

Definitely not better than Neo, as Neo has Snapdragon 695, 65W Charging, Amoled screen. They are not in the same range, Neo is Edge
Range and this is mid G range. There is no guarantee Lenovo will ever update this to the next OS or when the security update will stop for this model. Anyway, Neo is out of stock, will need to look forward…..

Android 14 is already out. Feels like this needs to be ok up to Android 15. Says the man who had Android 9 or something until a few months ago. But I know others will care.

    • This is G series, you may need to wait until May 2024 to get Android 14. It looks like the next G55 will be released by then (it is on a 6 to 9 months release cycle) and it will say it fixes all the issues that G54 has… (Like slow GPU of the Mediatek 7020 and back to Snapdragon again)

Mediatek 7020 GPU/floating point performance is like half the speed of SD695.
      https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/qualcomm-snapdragon-69…

      • Luckily I don't use floating points. Just the sinking ones.

    • Not excusing Motorola on their tardy update cycle but does it really matter anymore? I noticed no improvement in the last few updates past 9 or 10.

      • Probably security. I don't see it as much else. Googles stock apps are all amazingly bad. Chrome, clock, contacts.. I don't know how they get it so wrong

        • +2

3 years security updates, and 3 years is all I expect from a sub 300 dollar phone.

I prefer to buy these cheapies and then upgrade every 2 to 3 years, and if you break a phone not much lost.

  • I JUST dropped the hammer on a TCL 20 Pro for the same price and now this finally comes out.

The moto doesn't have wireless charging which sucks, will be interesting to see the camera benchmarks but apparently it's the same quality as before (not very good). The TCL got extremely high marks for camera

    • +3

Wireless charging. I never even think about that. Haven't done it once in years and I've got an S22 Ultra for over a year now.

      • It makes a noise as well so no good for bedside tables from my experience

        • Really? I've never heard a noise when wireless charging my S10 on my bedside table.

      • +1

        Ok.

Never too late to make improvements in your own life.

      • +4

Fantastic if used with a car phone holder with wireless charging.

        • I use a car phone holder wirless charger. Can confirm, very useful.

      • Likewise. Have a phone that supports it and have never used it.

    • +2

The TCL 20 Pro 5G with it's specs and AMOLED screen is a better buy at this price imo. My partner and I have been rocking the TCL 20 Pro 5Gs for over a year now and we can't fault it. I wouldn't say we're super-users using our phones for vlogging or anything like that, but for calls, videos, browsing, some games, NFC and wireless charging, it's exceeded expectations (the screen is beautiful imo). The only issue I've ever had is trying to communicate with the support team over a compatibility query.

      • Never really heard of TLC as a brand, but Jbhifi stocks them, so they must be decent right?

        • +3

TCL is a huge manufacturer in China. They're best known for being display manufacturers

        • +3

They make decent TVs, good screens, decent price for decent OLED/AMOLEDs. The screen quality is what drew us to the TCLs and they've been good. TCL though, not TLC.

        • +2

          TLC sing about waterfalls.

          • +4

@Brianqpr: Hate to nickpick, they sing about not chasing them and sticking with the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
Which I think it pretty good swim safety advice.

      • +1

Great to hear. It was the only phone that wasn't a downgrade in features from my current LG V30, (3.5mm, microSD, NFC, wireless charging) other than $1500 Xperia's (been there done that, won't buy "premium" phones any more)

        • It's also got an IR blaster, great for when you can't find the remote or want to turn the TV/AC on (in your house only of course.. I definitely don't use this at the doctors/hospital or anything like that) and can't find the remote.

      • I think they're both offering different trade offs, I'm not sure if one is better than the other https://versus.com/en/mediatek-dimensity-7020-vs-qualcomm-sn…

      • Where is the best deal for TCL 20 Pro 5G? I need to replace my damaged TCL10 Pro which has been a great phone.

    • This will have similar camera quality to the Moto G82, although Mediatek's ISP may be slightly worse.

  • -2

Would the camera be better than iPhone 11 pro max? Seems like a good price to get reacquainted with android

    • +6

      noooo very different phone categories

if you need a good android flagship level camera, look for Pixel deals

      • +1

Okay thanks! Will keep waiting! Will keep my eyes open for Pixels

        • +3

The recently released Pixel 8 Pro is around $1699 at full price, but there's a lot of different bundle offers going on right now.

I suggest checking out Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree to see if there's anyone seling their Pixel 8 Pro for a good price, under $1200. Harvey Norman recently had a deal where you could get the Pixel 8 Pro included on Optus' $69 mobile plan for 24 months (or $99 with the included Watch 2) so I'd expect many people purchased the phone + contract and just sold off the phone itself.

Otherwise, we often get similar deals around the end of November so if you're happy to wait until then, that's when I'd look into phone options again.

          • +1

@onover: I just managed to convince someone to do it new 2nd hand for $1200, would that be good enough you think? Or should I wait for a deal online (happy to wait)

            • @dottjt: If you're happy with $1200 then go for it. They're pretty good phones, though the processor is a bit weak for the price point. But, check out the camera and photo editing capabilities first.

100% up to you, but I'd wait to see what crops up in November/early December in the lead up to Christmas and with Black Friday/Cyber Monday.

              • @onover: It's not possible to get that phone during any sales in 2023 under 1.2k. A $400 discount within two months it's a impossible ask while it's a flagship just release weeks ago.

Scalpers are doing this to the phone around $850 and resale for $1200 for profit.

  • -1

android 14 on it? anything less than that is not worth it. You might as well get a pixel.

    • +4

At this price point I don’t think people care about software support. They just use the phone for a couple years and move on to the next $300 model. Rinse and repeat

With phone like the pixel offering 7 years of support though, they will become potentially a better value option in the future. Just think a refurbished pixel 8 in two years will be competing against the cheaper Android OEMs with their 2-3 years of support, poor cameras and so on. So either Android OEMs up their game. Maybe by then Motorola will have phones with a camera comparable to pixels and software support for 5 years at ~$500 price on sale. Who knows lol

      • +2

"Maybe by then Motorola will have phones with a camera comparable to pixels and software support for 5 years at ~$500 price on sale."

        Tell them they're dreaming

      • You don’t care about software but people do care about software updates getting the latest feature and security updates. Because mailware on android phones is a thing, security is critical. Every phone regardless of price should have free software updates.

  • At this price point, maybe a Nokia G60 (LCD) for $350 on eBay or X30 for $4xx on JB. Guaranteed monthly security updates and OS updates for the next 2 years. G60 had earphones jack too….. (I really like wired headphones as i lost countless or war buds in the past 12 months). The built quality of Nokia is great but it is heavier than Motorola.

    • +1

Where exactly is the G60 for $350 on eBay? The only ones I can find are priced quite a bit above that.

      • I can still see it when I searched for Nokia G60 and it seems to have $20 using the code listed above. (My wife wants a LCD because she gets headache with OLED for some reasons. She also wants a headphone jack as she also lost a few ear buds.)

        • Can you please post a link. I cannot find it.

          • @dottjt: Here is One but not exactly a mobile supplier!

  • Was lingering on the Lenovo site and saw "Sign up to receive 10% of your first purchase." which would make it a bit cheaper that this deal.

    • +1

You can also wait for Lenovo Cash Back on Shopback / Cashback. They just had 15% cash back last week.

  • Worth upgrading from a Redmi Note 10 Pro?

    • I have a Redmi Note 9 pro, was surprised to find out the Motorlola is better!

      https://versus.com/en/motorola-moto-g54-5g-128gb-8gb-ram-vs-…

      • Why were you surprised? Isn't the redmi note 9 pro a lot older?

        • +1

My 9 is still going strong. Was surprised it beat the 10.

    • Recently sold my 10 Pro and bought a Pixel.

The 10 Pro was one of the best phones I've owned. Paid $360 delivered at launch and got $250 for it after well over two years use. Just brilliant value for money.

      • Where'd you sell it? I have a 9 pro idk what to do with haha

  • -6

Still over $250. Remember the motto 'no phones computer laptop tablet deserves more than $250.'

This or the Oppo find X5 lite?

    • +1

      I'm all for oppo's,

    • Seems like the motorola is equivalent, whilst being far cheaper https://www.smartprix.com/mobiles/motorola_moto_g54_5g_vs_op…

    • -1

      oppo sux
UI and User Experience worst ever
      oppo sux

    • When on sale, the Oppo find X5 lite is a nice phone that is very smooth with a decent camera. Motorola has a shit camera, but has some useful functions. Can be a bit choppy at times, and software support is lacking.

    • Nope definitely not. According to my internet speed test I get over 3 times the speed on my 5g phone vs a 4g one. What new $200 iPhone you talking about? An iPhone 8 lol

      • -3

yes but I can scroll twitter twice as fast

        • +2

You need to in order to make up for half the screen real estate. Be so sluggish using a tiny phone nowadays. Probably pain in the ass using the keyboard too. Especially iOS joke of a keyboard.

          • -3

@Ronnnie: ? I type plenty fast and I can do it with one hand

I just keep saving time because everything is just faster

I’m on the computer most of the time don’t need big screen

but don’t let me keep you from wasting money on this phone

            • +1

@abctoz: I’m not interested in an iPhone 8. That’s wasting money at this point. But just about any $200 phone can run twitter and any of those social media apps you waste you time on. Those mobile apps aren’t that taxing on any hardware in 2023. And if you actually did use your phone for more taxing applications then I’m sure iPhone 8 is probably no faster than this hardware. Even if some synthetic benchmarks say it is. And you will face more limitations on iPhone thanks to the iOS walled gardens approach.

              • @Ronnnie: if you bothered to do research instead of arguing with me you’d find you can do a lot better than iPhone 8

  • As much as I want to go back to Motorola, I simply can't deal with not having an IR blaster on my phone. Redmi note 9 Pro still going strong.

    • What do you use an IR blaster for?

      • +6

        Shooting aliens

      • +4

changing channels on TVs in pubs and clubs

        • +1

          Great fun doing that!

      • +3

TV's, AC's, and so on. Great for when you're staying at a hotel and you can't locate the remote or while you're waiting at your local GP and don't like the channel they've put on lol!😂

    • -1

Can you pls check if there's dual physical SIM slot?

        • newbie ?, 1 physical sim and 1 e-sim….so technically 2 numbers can run on one phone?

          • @s0805: Yes and two different carriers is also what it's typically used for

            • @scud70: Can be two carriers, but not necessarily. I have a work and a personal SIM, both Telstra. Work SIM is turned off outside hours.
