Wow cheaper than the iPhone 11

    • +2

These are not refurbs as people believe.
No work is done on these phones other than clean them up, do a handful of quick checks and place them in a generic box.
And no new battery as one would expect unless battery is BELOW 80%.
Battery is not covered by warranty.

      The question to ask is:

Is $499 a fair price for a used iPhone 12 with a little peace of mind that if something is wrong, hopefully they will fix it under warranty. But in that case they usually argue and squabble and it takes weeks to get your phone back.

    64gb beast…

    • +3

most profits Apple gets from iCloud subscribers

      • That's most companies now. Even companies like dell make most of its money from warranty and subscriptions.

Services is where money is and hardware sales gets them that.

        • iPhone 15 costs them US$500 in parts

          • @linkindan: irony is, cheaper iPhones with less storage bring Apple more money, as their owners increase iCloud storage tier sooner

        • +1

          What?

    • +3

This is a link to the American Apple store

      • +1

Google's first link is to the American store if you type something like 'apple store refurb iphone'. As the Australia store doesn't sell refurb iphones.

    • +1

Lol thats US site and USD……..

  • Damn, a great deal

  • Is cashback eligible if we use westpac plus SB?

    • Looks like only 3% through cashrewards

    • Was when Coles did the XR

  • Is that the one that’s banned ? 😂

    • +14

Yes, a few iPhone 12 users in France turned into Hulk after 2 years of ownership…

  • -2

very tempting but don't want to risk buying a second hand phone

    • +1

      Not being critical, but why?

      • +7

        Ear wax

      • +3

You do know people use their phones when enjoying their toilet time, don't you?

        • +2

You do touch people's phones on some occasions, don't you?

        • +12

I keep thinking about selling the iphone 11 I have that took a swan dive into the loo (post number two but pre flush), the faceid module committed seppuku though, presumably after trying to ID a turd.

            @freefall101:

I keep thinking about selling the iphone 11

That's the extent of detail that we needed.

            • @DontNeedThis: Just think, they added better waterproofing to the iPhone 12. At least mine has a slight hint that it decided to go for a swim after I dropped the kids off at the pool.

          • +5

@freefall101: You mean the faecid module.

        • +6

Wait until you find out what people get up to in cars. You’ll never buy a used car again.

And don’t get me started on houses.

      • smallpox

      • Some of the reviews mention the phone breaking after 3 to 6 months … this would be really annoying especially on holidays / work.

  • Want to buy one for my son, just going to hold back a sec in case CR announce cashback deal… usually happens.

  • -2

that is too expensive for a used phone. also the battery on this model is notoriously bad even new, so a refurb would be worse.

  • -3

Its already past 3 years no updates either i am guessing?

    • +5

Apple supports their iPhones for yonks. This iPhone will keep getting updates through to the end of 2025.

    • A14 is going to be supported for years yet.

    • +3

Apple support their much longer than Android. Should have at least 2 more years of IOS updates, likely more by their track record

      • -3

Yeah, Pixel 8 will only get updates until Oct 2030. Those bastards. 😤

        • +5

You mean a just released Android flagship will maybe perhaps have the same support as Apple? Wow, news indeed.

A one year older Pixel 7 is only until 2027, not to mention the hoards of crap like the Motorolas that gets posted around here where you get 2 years at most.

        • +4

One phone, and it's yet to be proven. Hopefully they do come through, Google doesn't have the best track record with keeping promises so forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical.

      • -1

As someone who used an iPhone7 for several years - every single large update broke everything.

Lucky for me there wasn't ever real reason to update, and the phone was great on… Whatever iOS i found stable.

        • +5

Weird, I was on an 8 plus until last month and didn't really have anything break with the iOS big updates.

          • @Scrobo: iOS 14 was a pretty woeful experience for older phones, if I remember correctly. That may be what old mate was referring to

  • At least the refurb iPhones come with AC Wall Adaptor but I still won't buy anything from these guys

    • +1

Its not Coles store, this is essentially Coles "marketplace" kinda like Amazon marketplace but only with fulfilled by Amazon products (aka the return/support process is handled by Amazon).

Which kinda defeats the purpose of buying from Coles. If you buy from the physical store and the batteries sucks, you can return it right then and there.

    • Got iPhone XR in as new physical condition for $114 after $60 cashback + $26 flybuys (5200pts).

Only caveat is it was US model without B28 but the price I can overlook that, I don't use it as a main phone.

      • Can you guide me with the link for iPhone XR and the cashback website

  • +28

People think a $500 4 year old second had phone with 64gb is a good deal. 🙄

    • +4

      He's right you know.

    • +9

500 is too high a price point for a throwaway/impulse purchase.

200 odd for a SE is reasonable as a secondary device, and since I turned on end to end for iCloud, I figured I need a back up iOS device.

Also, Green Gadget is the same mob as Alegre, the mob thats behind the Boost refurbished phones (including the 8 and SEs).

From previous reports, the physical condition is typically very good. The SE that I got was flawless on the outside, a bit of fluff in the lightening port is the only thing I noticed. Not a scratch even looking up close, not sure if they polished it or some how tidied the glass up? The down side is the battery is only 86 and dropped down to 85 a couple cycles later. (I assume due to a bit of calibration as I did some full cycles). Most other reports around these parts suggests batteries around the low to mid 80s to low 90s is what you can expect.

The main thing to note is that they import these phones from other markets. The SE that I got was Japanese, which looks to have the same bands as AU version (Both are global). But someone mentioned that they got a US version with some missing bands for the AU market.

      • -5

this phone is faster than any android flagship on the market fyi

        • +2

          😂

          • +5

            @Salmando: https://browser.geekbench.com/mobile-benchmarks

I wish I was joking but it’s that bad

like how much humiliation is it going to take

android phones used to be decent value but now they’re just expensive and slow

            • +3

@abctoz: And if you use a different benchmark like Antutu, you'll get a different result.

Benchmarks are kinda like Dyno runs for your car, they don't always reflect performance in real world usage.

              • -4

@CheapGit: antutu is garbage mostly multicore

single core gives you direct measure of responsiveness

go check any webpage rendering benchmark android gets smoked

                • +2

@abctoz: So, a test is garbage because it doesn't benefit your iPhone agenda?
You constantly spout the same crap on basically every mobile phone post that isn't Apple, how does your iPhones do in comparison to Android phones on other benchmark software like 3dmark?

                  • @CheapGit: a test is garbage because it doesn’t bother to separate single and multicore

I got no agenda the fact is single core is dominated by apple

I’m happy for anybody to buy android phones it’s not like I care if people don’t value their money

it’s funny people accuse me of having an agenda for stating facts, it’s hilarious how many ppl can’t handle the truth

            • @abctoz: Apples cpu is amazing, but it's not the only only component in the phone that attributes to 'speed'. We've had decent ram, storage, and software updates since that surpass what the CPU can do alone.

              • @Salmando: so why is web performance better with apple phones?

                • @abctoz: When has that ever been a thing? My iPhone web browsing has always been shitty. Not sure I've ever heard that claim at all, unless it's all based on 'smooth scrolling' which is an effect.

iPhone lack of ram has only ever been noticeable when browsing.

                  • @Salmando: are you sure you have a real iPhone, apple is wins despite chromes superior JavaScript engine

        • This phone used to cost more than most android flagships on the market fyi

    • +1

      3 but close.

    • thats iPhone for you! :)

  • +1

This is the phone that didnt pass the radiation levels testing in france

    • +11

Oh now France cares about radiation.

      • +1

        Nicely played!

    • I think it's OK as long as you don't hold the phone to your ear.
If you're buying it for a Boomer - rethink!
I you're buying it for Gen Y and below don't worry..
      :)

  • -3

64gb no usb c , where do you store the videos and photos ?

    • +10

Not everyone is recording TikToks ever hour.

    • You can store them on your laptop if you want to.

    • +1

Airdrop them to your Mac in seconds.

  • +3

Very decent price with a 12 month warranty.

    • +1

Yeah and Green Gadgets are excellent to deal with if by chance you have any issues within the 12 months. They will look after you. I buy devices from them and mainly due to how good they are and quality of devices.

  • Hi OP. Are these network unlocked? Will they work overseas?

  • OP, any chance of doing a 2020 FE deal?

  • These could be overseas sourced phones?

    • +3

      Definitely from France.

  • Is iPhone 12 radiation issue fixed ?

    • I was thinking the same thing. Don't hold it near your balls!

  • I was fortunate to have purchased bnew from the recent Amazon sale pricematched at OfficeWorks using discounted GC (15%) then claimed GST refund (10%) as I flew out of the country last weekend.

I believe the net total is ~$600.

Not a bad price for iPhone 12…

    .

    • I'm genuinely curious as to if people think that's a good price for a 3 year old phone, I mean one could've gotten an S23 or Pixel 7 Pro for less with the recent(ish) deals.

That being said for $100 more definitely better than refurb. Guess Apple has the market cornered by not allowing many discounts so you take what you can get.

  • Wasn't the iphone 12 banned in France? Can one expect any negative consequences by using this phone?

  • Phone is quite old more than 4 years. Not worth it with battery level less than 80%

    • Will have to get the battery swapped out by a 3rd party repairer as well, if it's OS stock Apple won't want to touch it.

  • Another point of note is that France changed the way that the SAR tests were carried out in 2020, allowing radiation levels to be measured 0 mm from the smartphone, compared to the previous 5mm, which may be why the iPhone is now failing the test.
It's also worth noting that the iPhone 12 isn't the only smartphone to fail the test — smartphones from Samsung, Motorola, and Xiaomi have also failed the test.
Interestingly, these handsets were not banned.

    https://www.zdnet.com/article/worried-about-iphone-12-radiat…

  • It's interesting that France takes such a hardline on phone radiation when their efforts in regard to tobacco use seems a little lacklustre by comparison.

    https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/smoking-r…

  • Pulled the pin and bought one,my 6s plus has been great and does what i need but the coffee spill didn't help its cause 😂😂😂😂

    Thanks O.P…

  • Anyone knows what's covered in 30-Day Satisfaction Guarantee? If the battery health is lower than 90% could we return the phone?

    • I bought one and it arrived yesterday. Battery health is 97% on the device I received.
Phone is in great condition and seems to work well (so far)

    • Their cut off is 80%, so its a lottery, and you might have to factor in 149 bucks (official Apple price) to swap it.

Some say their customer service is great, others not so much.

    • +2

All of our devices are min 80% battery capacity and battery is covered under our 12 month warranty.
But If you're not completely satisfied with your device, you're welcome to return it within 30 days

      • +1

When you say the battery is covered under the 12 month warranty do you mean if it drops below 80% capacity within 12 months it will be covered?
