Thanks OP, wish it was the 128gb model!

    • +7

Is this phone better than the two cans and string model I'm currently using? Mine has a maximum storage of 1.2kgs.

    • +53

DO NOT BUY ANY ALEGRE PHONE!

1.Alegre who sell this phone do not honor the warranty or support the products they sell. They are very shonky!
2 Used iPhone XR commonly sell for $220-$250 so that is the RRP. And last year Coles were selling these for $259. And earlier this year for $299. See here
      https://www.gadgetguy.com.au/cheap-iphones-coles-boost-mobil…
Hence Its not the great discount that is advertised. Its actually a huge CON-JOB!
      3. These have absolutely nothing to do with Boost other than having a Boost SIM card included. They are not ex-Boost AU mobile phones - so false and misleading advertising
4.I bought one of these last year and it had a faulty camera and screen had lots of scratches. Alegre refused to replace it
      5. A friend bought one and battery was only 80%. It needed replacing and Alegre refused to replace it.
      6. As per points 3 and 4 these are not refurbished at all. They are just "wiped clean" and placed in a nice box. (see 7 )
      7. As per points 4,5,6 there is no 72 point inspection or refurbishment at all. So its false and misleading advertising
      8. These are US model so dont fully cover all the Australian bands (some are missing). Thats not disclosed either! Shonky as!

I cannot emphasize any more. STAY RIGHT AWAY!

      • Dodged a bullet it seems.

Got the order confirmation email but according to Coles no order exists… Even with the order #.

Can't reorder because there's an "I.T issue with my Coles plus account"

Massive Debacle. Massive Gronks. Bad PR.

        • +1

          Karma in your favour

      • Thank you very much. I was about to make a mistake.

Edit: Alegre means "happy" in Portuguese. Sounds like the only Alegre ones would be the owners of the company.

      • Thank you.

      • Can confirm that the unit I received is an ex AT&T model which DOESN'T have band 28.
Model Number MT3M2LL/A which is the A1984 version. Australian/Global version is A2105
So not much use in regional Australia, might be OK in the major cities but most of the other bands are being converted to 5G
Will spend a day or 2 to see what reception I get in 3141 but it's probably going back or being traded

        • -1

          yep
          Just like I said
Suggest you thoroughly test out EVERYTHING
          Check battery health too

          Good luck

        • Wow, I got a MT3M2LL/A. I would never have expected to get an "IPHONE XR BLACK 64GB AT&T-USA" ("iPhone XR 64GB Black Cellular [A1984] [iPhone11,8]") when buying a phone in Australia.

Luckily my father in law, who I bought it for, stays in the city but yeah this is really poor form from Alegre, Boost (for associating with them) and Coles.

All that took the shine off things :(

      • -2

mate its just $199, not like someone is gonna expect to get a few years from a $199 phone lol

        • I have had 7 years out of my $29.99 phone and its still going. 4G eats battery quick, 3g far superior.

  • +18

Looks like it would stack with "4,000 bonus Flybuys points for all online shops over $180"

  • +9

FYI - JB is valuing this at $180 trade in credit

    • +36

Rookie numbers. CeX is offering $228 so you can literally make free money 😂
      https://au.webuy.com/product-detail/?id=sappixr64gbunlb&cate…

Also just realised it may stack with the 4000 points promo. That's $50 of arbitrage ($20 of points and $30 trade in)

      • +13

        Infinite money glitch ZOMG

      • What's the $30 trade in?

    • +1

So Refurbished phones are eligible for be trade in?? Never done a trade in before, tempted to use it for fold5

      • +16

No, they have to be brand new sealed in the box, with receipt and a personal warranty

      • +1

Of course. They don't know if they're refurb or not. They just inspect the phone and run some basic tests against it. If it meets the A tier, you get the most money. Then it goes down to B, C, F etc depending on the condition of the phone. You could trade in at jb, officeworks, or CeX but in my experience CeX has given the most without promos. Jb is good when they do the bonus $500 trade in so that could be worth waiting for for you.

        Fyi
A - Mint: Product in mint/new condition with original box and all original accessories.

B - Good: Working product in good cosmetic condition without charger.

C - Working: Working product in poor cosmetic condition without charger.

        F - Non-Working

        • Thank u..that is very helpful.

    • Much less for the US model which is supplied !!!!

  • +6

using a xr at the moment as my 13 pro smashed honestly not a bad phone especially for $200

  • +8

Plus westpac is offering 10% cb on shopback

  • +1

I must be blind - or stupid. Can't get it for $199. In the checkout, it remains stubbornly at $599.

    • +1

Me either. Everything comes up $599.

      • Perhaps it's from midnight August 9 to midnight August 15?

    • +7

I think it requires Coles plus per the t&cs

      • +4

D'Oh! Missed that one. Sorry. And thanks.

      • +2

And confirmed. Now showing as $200 at the checkout.

        • +1

Let me know if the 4000 points promo stacks witb this! Be sure to link your flybuys before buying

      • +4

Yep that was it. Activated a 1 month trial and the discount applied in checkout.

        • Interesting- no flybuys applied at the checkout for me? Only the phone reduced to $199.

          • @GoldStar:

Offer valid after savings and discounts and excludes all gift cards, iTunes cards, Coles Best Buys Online Exclusive products,

I guess the iPhone is one of the exclusive products?

  • +2

Is there any way to specify the colour?

  • +2

    No way to pick colour.

Can't seem to get rid of $1.5 paper bag option, so final cost is $200.50.

    • From my other orders the bag charge gets removed in the final total (once they pack and deliver)

      • -1

So once they pack and deliver, the bag fee is returned?

  • so $179 after 4000 flybuys points, and another 10% (ex. GST) if using westpac shopback for new customer

    • +3

Also the base is 10% cashback if placing order as new Coles customers too

So net 20% cashback and the $5 bonus cashback if spending $500 at Coles

  • +3

Value for money king , iPhone XR is basically the godfather of the current lineup. Same dimensions, LCD screen which isn’t bad and a still banging cpu.

    • TCL 20 R 5G is far better in all specs & I only pay 0.84 / mth with 5G 10x faster USB-C, micro-SD for say 1/2TB extra storage, 3.5mm audio, case, charger, earphones… all provided & NEW :)
Don't even try to say iOS is better as I use smartphones since 2001 & I use max of their features (in IT for >40y)

      • USB C port is 2.0, not 3.0, same as the iPhone XR. Not that you should be using it for a tonne of data transfer. The iPhone also has a faster CPU and better software support, unlike the TCL which has been left behind and gets basically zero updates.

That said the TCL definitely has advantages, and I would prefer it as well, but be careful with your statements as they are not 100% correct.

  • +4

    Confirmed. It worked for me.

Had to sign up to Coles plus (1 month free trial).

It lists as $599 on the product page, but discounts to $199 on final checkout page.

    • Confirmed works for me. Ordered 10 mins ago for delivery. I will keep the Coles plus as I shop there anyway.

  • +2

Was about to head out to collect when I got a cancellation notification from Coles, zero explanation.

    • Damn!!

    • +4

That was my experience on several previous attempts to get a refurb iPhone from Coles - eventually gave up as it was a waste of time.

Seems like their online process has no visibility of store stock, and they only confirm availability just before your nominated collection window. I called round a few stores who advised they never had any stock, and there doesn't appear to be any way of centrally checking beforehand.

    • +1

I got jerked around by Coles a week or two back when I bought the SE. The store I ordered from didn't get any stock but they didn't notify me until they went to pick the order. I ended up ordering from another store but bought it instore before the pickup time. Later that day they canceled the online order because I had bought the last one. Moral is they don't let you know they don't have stock until its time to pick and they don't put your order aside and it can be bought by anyone instore before your pickup time.

    • Me too

  • +1

Anybody knows if batteries are also replaced as part of the refurbishing process?

    • +6

I got a SE previously, batteries aren't replaced. I doubt XR would be different

    • +1

No, you get what you overPAID for

  • $599 for me even at final checkout page, no mention of $199 at all

    • +3

Did you register for the Coles Plus trial?

      • Ah, missed that, signed up and worked

    • same for me

      • sorted it out, have to get to the final, final check out screen to see the $199

  • +4

from previous deal, battery health ranges from 80-90%

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/722241

From the phone and warranty supplier Alegre - "If your battery is draining fast or showing battery service with lower than 80% battery capacity, swollen/overheating, dead, not charging, or has an error in battery meter reading, you may return the device for an assessment as long as the device did not suffer any physical or liquid damage.

Please note to keep a copy of your receipt to lodge a warranty claim.".

    • Can confirm. Bought one during the last deal in Sep 22. Battery was at 94% capacity I think. Now at 92% after almost a year of use.

  • +2

    $199 for upgrading chopper….
    Probably worth the money

    • +2

my chopper is equipped with an android emulator (nox) for free.

      • Good to know nox now have series 9 chopper

      • Anyway to get a chopper on mac through android simulator that supports it

        • I believe the android emulator called nox has a mac client - try that and investigate the original helicopter thread for instructions

    • XR no good for chopper

      • why? 3utools?

        • +4

Don't even need 3utools (which doesn't work with the latest iOS anyway, unless you also use another app like iAnyGo) - use iFakeLocation instead.

          • @xyron: 3utools working with iOS 16.6 can confirm lol

            • +2

@MrMoist: They must have patched it recently then (lol?) - no need for it at all with iFakeLocation though, which is a much simpler app.

          • @xyron: I’ve had two accounts banned after successfully locking in a few times each using ifakelocation. Am i doing something wrong or do people just keep churning accounts?

            • +2

@alcadive: Seems to be a real YMMV thing, I only get petrol once a month so I'm probably not a great litmus test, but I have only ever had the one Seven-11 account and never been banned. I don't have my Velocity account linked to my Seven-11 account though, just in case.

            • +2

@alcadive: Don't share the logins, means don't login into more than one devices with the same credentials, that's why I lost my earlier account but using ifakelocation has nothing to do with that

              • @TaurusHead: Ah okay. I was locking it in on my iPad and using it on my phone because i couldn’t get ifakelocation to work with my phone.

    • +1

      Chopper??

      • +7

Time to hand in your ozbargain licence at 7eleven.

        • +1

True ozbargainer won't go to 7eleven anymore after they increased their coffee to $2.

          • +1

@kampret: $1.50 with the app or BYO cup.

Also free coffee with fuel purchase for the month of August.

        • -1

Fuel card = oblivious to this haha

My initial thought was the comments were related to helicopters somehow :D

      • +2

It means a phone that you jailbreak/install locating-spoofing software on so you can fool the 7/11 App "Fuel Lock" function and thus obtain petrol from your local 7/11 at a price being offered in a favourable location

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/678629

      • Eastern states mate. They dont realise 7/11 doesnt exist in some parts of the country.

7/11 have a fuel price match (so you use a location spoofer (ie. Fly out in the chopper) to get the price match, then take it to your nearest for a price match.

  • ordered 2 in separate transactions. Let's see if they honour it. Pickup tomorrow from local coles.

(if this worked - I'm going to be declared best** dad in the world Haha :D )

  • +1

Registered for the Coles Plus trial, reminder in a month to cancel lol

Lets see if it goes through, thanks OP!

  • +1

Shopback tracking with 10% of original non-discounted price…. Would be nice if they paid, they do owe me money.

    Don't tell Shopback. 🛡️

    • where can you check if tracking worked?

      • You should get an email and show up on shopback website.

    • +1

      I got the same

    • Got the shopback email and cashback is $2.99

  • Can anyone confirm that the bonus 4000 Flybuys points works?

    • I logged in to my flybuys and the 4000 points not showing yet.. does anyone know how long it might take before they do show?

      • I think won't be until after pick up/delivery until you get the base points. As for bonus 2k points, T&Cs of the promo state that "Flybuys points will be attributed to the linked Flybuys household member account at time of qualifying order(s) within 2 weeks of the promotional end date."

So within 2 weeks of 15 August 2023

  • How would this compare to the Oppo X5 Lite? Step down or step up?

  • +4

Just placed an order 4000 flybuys points, shopabck 10% Westpac 10% free delivery. Fingers crossed🤑
    Received a confirmation email😉
